Forever Young
Good Morning children! How are you all on this fine morning? I'm great thanks. So last night I went to see Insurgent with my two besties and it was great! It didn't exactly follow the movies but other than that it was great. My favorite part about the whole thing was Miles Teller as Peter. He was hilarious! Sorry I'm posting so early in the morning, I have a rehearsal at 10am and I won't be back 'til almost 3pm and then I have to get ready and go to a performance by 5pm and be there until 9pm. So I'm barely at my house today...UGH! A dancers job is just never done I guess. Well I hope you enjoy!
P.S. I don't own Harry Potter characters or Sherlock Holmes characters. I just like to play pretend with them...*Cries in corner with a gallon of ice cream*
Chapter 39: What's it to you Watson?
Cassidy's POV:
"So we're just suppose to ignore her?" James asked for the third time that morning. We had all gathered in the Marauders dorm the morning after Sirius and I talked with Peter. He had already left and gone to breakfast with Ellie.
"Yes James," I clarified once more. "For the millionth time we just ignore her."
"I just don't see how it'll work," he said.
"It won't," I said. "She'll get pissed eventually and just go in for the kill."
"So to clarify once more," James began as we all groaned. "Is to wait around and ignore Ellie so she'll get so mad she'll try to kill you? I don't understand how that is safe."
"Because James," I started. "I am a highly skilled witch. Plus I'm a wicked fast runner and I have been told by multiple people I have a damn good right hook."
"Who has told you that?" he asked unimpressed. Sirius slowly raised his hand as everyone began to laugh at him.
"We weren't always lovey dovey with each other," he grumbled. "There was a time in our life when we could barely be in the same room without killing each other. We were worse than you and Lily, Prongs."
"True," he said. We were all silent for a while before James spoke up one final time.
"I can't believe that we are just going to ignore her."
"James!"
The day was basically as boring as any other old day. Until we got to potions that afternoon. Sirius almost made us late to class because he insisted that we have a quick snog before class and promised we'd get there on time.
"Sirius Black I told you we were going to be late," I hissed as I straightened out my hair before entering the dungeons.
"Relax love," he said placing a light kiss on my neck. "We've got a minute before the bell rings. Now where were we…" I shoved him and quickly entered class.
"Over here Padfoot," James called. I looked to my friends who had already paired up with each other. I frantically looked around and spotted Remus right in front of James and Sirius. I quickly sped over to him and sat down.
"Hey Remus," I said. "This seat taken?"
"It is now," he smiled moving his things over. I smiled back and took a seat taking my things out and getting ready for Slughorn to start class.
"Good afternoon students," he greeted. "Today we will be brewing a Herbicide potion. It is very useful for gardeners out there. Be very careful though. It will burn you if it touches your skin, it won't do too much damage but please be careful." He then turned us loose to begin making our potions.
"We have most of the ingredients," I said. "It seems we've both run out of honey water."
"I'll go get some from the supply closet," Remus volunteered.
"That would be great Remus," I smiled looking up. That's when I saw Snape heading towards the supply closet as well. "Actually," I said stopping him. "I'll get it. Be right back." I hopped up and headed after him into the closet. No one else was in there so it was the perfect opportunity to talk to him.
"Severus," I greeted as I casually entered the closet. "How are you today?"
"Fine," he said cautiously. "And yourself?"
"Just dandy," I chirped. He gave me a strange look and I cringed at the fact I sounded like someone who committed murder and is trying to get away with it. Stay calm Clark. You can do this.
"I was wondering if you've spoken with Ellie as of lately?" I asked him as I browsed the shelves for honey water.
"Why?" he drawed out as he picked a bottle of something off the shelf.
"I need to know if she's planning anything," I explained. "Peter came to Sirius and I and told us some of the things she wants to do but I need to know if she's made solid plans. I know she would never trust Peter with information like that but you, I'm willing to bet you know more than you are letting on." He was silent for a moment before speaking.
"You are correct," he stated. "She has yet to trust the rat with any valuable information. But unfortunately for you she hasn't trusted me with much as of lately either. Look's like you're out of luck."
"Damn," I grumbled. Then after a moment I realized something he had said. "Wait, why did you call Peter a rat?"
"Don't tell me you don't know," he scoffed. "You've been friends with those menaces for longer than I can remember you'd think they would have told you by now."
"If we're thinking about the same thing then they have told me," I said shocked. "Question is how the hell do you know?"
"Your boyfriend hasn't told you?" he asked. "That's peculiar."
"Told me what?" I demanded.
"That he practically tried to kill me last year," he said casually. "You'd think he would have told you about something like that. Guess you don't know him as well as you think."
"That's complete bull-"
"Hurry up Sev we need to get started," Avery said as he entered the closet. "Oh would you look at that, it's the blood-traitor. How's daddy doing? Oh that's right he's not doing anything anymore now is he."
"Wanna say that again Avery?" I said crossing my arms stepping closer to him trying to size him up. It's times like these I wish I had inherited my dad's height genes.
"What are you gonna do about it Clark? Tell your big brother on me? Well news flash girlie-"
"Problem?" a voice asked from the behind him. Sirius was standing there with a concerned look on his face.
"None at all Black," Avery smiled cynically. "Hurry up Sev." And with that left the room. On his way out he made sure to knock into my shoulder. I growled and made a move to hit him back Sirius grabbed my arm and held me back.
"Good luck with whatever," Snape said as he left as well.
"Severus wait," I said going after him but Sirius pulled me back once more. "Do you mind?" I asked annoyed.
"What are you doing?" he asked in a low voice.
"Trying to find something out now if you could please let me go," I asked trying to get out of his grip.
"Cassi I think it's time you stop playing Sherlock and focus on the important things right now," he said gently releasing me.
"What's it to you Watson," I snapped. "And what could possibly be more important than trying to keep my friends and myself alive? Getting good grades? Making plans for my future?" I challenged him. "Sirius have you met me? I'm top in our class and have had my future planned out for a pretty long time now, I think I know what I'm doing."
"And that's exactly your problem," he said browsing the shelves. "You're too busy worried about your future when really you should be paying attention to you present. You need to live in the now you're not going to be young forever you know that right. You have to have fun while you still can. And who the bloody hell is Watson?"
"Ok number one Dr. John Watson was Sherlocks sidekick, and two I have no idea what the hell you are talking about," I told him. "But what I want to talk about is what the hell you did to Snape last year? He said you almost got him killed? How do I not know about this?"
"Because I never wanted you too," he said picking some things off a top shelf. "And I am most definitely not your sidekick."
"Sirius I'm your girlfriend," I pointed out to him.
"And I'm your boyfriend, which is why I need you to trust me," he said leaning in to kiss my cheek. I moved back and rolled my eyes before leaving the closet. I sat down annoyed and began to help Remus.
"Where's the honey water?" he asked. I looked at him confused and then I blushed. I had completely forgotten to get it while in the closet.
"Right here," Sirius said placing a small flask on our table. I glared at him and rolled my eyes once more before adding in the ingredient and mixing it into the solution. Remus and I continued to make the potion pouring, chopping, and mixing. As I was cutting up a root to add into the potion I had my eyes set on Snape and Avery. They too were working on the potion. At one moment Avery looked back at me and gave me a sly smile and wink. I rolled my eyes and looked elsewhere only to find myself looking back at them again.
"Cassidy," Remus exclaimed.
"Wha-OW! Damn it!" I exclaimed dropping the knife and looked at my hand. I had sliced it open and made a pretty good gash in between my thumb and index finger. I grabbed a rag sitting on our table and wrapped it around my hand.
"Cassidy take that off!" Remus exclaimed again.
"What why?" I asked not taking it off. But then I felt it.
"Ouch! Damn it! God damn it to hell!" I screeched dropping the rag holding my hand to my stomach.
"Cassidy are you ok?" Sirius asked coming around the table.
"Don't touch me," I growled at him. He ignored me and handed me a fresh rag and wrapped it around me hand.
"Miss. Clark are you ok?" Slughorn asked worriedly coming over to our station.
"Peachy keen sir," I said through gritted teeth.
"Cassidy you should go see Madam Pomfrey," Remus said. "I can finish up here."
"I'm fine," I said securing the rag around my hand. "We only need to finish putting this root in and let it sit for 10 minutes. I'll help clean up a little and then go."
"If you're sure Miss. Clark," Slughorn said. I nodded.
"Positive," I smiled as I went back to work. Remus and I added the last of the ingredients and then let it sit. While waiting we cleaned up what we could and continued to wait.
"You could go if you'd like," he said. "After it's done I just need to pour in the last of the honey water and then bottle it and finishing cleaning. No big deal."
"Are you sure? I mean my hand barely hurts," I told him.
"Positive," he smiled. "Now go before you bleed to death, or get an infection, or whatever." I smiled and gathered my things. Slughorn wrote me a pass and I began to make my way to the Hospital Wing. I entered the wing and sat down in the waiting area while Madam Pomfrey dealt with someone else.
"Miss. Clark," she said dully. "Why am I not surprised you're here?"
"Beats me," I said cheekily. She smiled and led me back to a bed. She sat me down and examined my hand.
"What on earth did you do dear?" she exclaimed in shock.
"We were making a herbicide potion and I accidentally sliced my hand open then wrapped a rag drenched in the unfinished potion around it," I said as if it were no big deal. "Its an easy fix right?"
"It would be if the herbicide potion hadn't come into contact with it," she said moving to get some alcohol to clean the wound. I hissed at the burning sensation and bit the inside of my cheek to keep from yelling out. She then muttered a spell on my hand and had me lay down on the bed careful not to move my hand.
"Why do I have to lay down?" I asked.
"Because you must keep your hand still so I can get the salve to put on it to rid the area of the potion," she said. "We don't have it in stock right now but I'm sure Professor Slughorn can have some ready before dinner."
"Dinner!" I screeched. "Thats in 4 hours! What am I suppose to do for 4 hours!?"
"Rest and stay still," she ordered. "You 7th years could use the rest and sleep. You might as well do it here." She then gave me another potion to numb the pain in my hand.
"Can you send a message to Lily or Marlene or someone to bring me more comfortable clothes at least? I don't want to sit here in these robes for 4 hours."
"I'll see what I can do," she said placing a spell on my hand to make it heavy and immobile for the time being. "Now try not to move to much. I'll be back soon to check on you."
Two hours, one flannel shirt, and a pair of jeans later I was sitting up in bed complaining to Madam Pomfrey.
"Please can I leave," I whined as she recast the spell to keep my hand closed for now. She told me she also had to wait for Slughorn to make a binding salve -along with the burning resolving salve- to keep my hand together.
"No Miss. Clark," she said waving her wand and fixing my bandages. "Now quit asking."
"But I've been here all afternoon! I need sunlight, fresh air," I told her. She rolled her eyes and made her way around to the other patients in the wing. I groaned and flopped backwards onto the bed.
"Hey Cassidy," Lily chirped as she sat down in the chair beside my bed. I let out a moan and closed my eyes.
"Stop being so happy," I muttered. "This is not a happy place."
"Sorry," she said setting down some water on my bedside table. "I never really got to ask but, why were you so unfocused today in Potions. Once you came out of the supply closet it was like you were completely confunded."
"I was just trying to get some information," I said trying to be as vague as possible.
"From who? Sev?" she asked surprised. "What kind of information was it?"
"The less I tell you the better," I told her. She frowned but moved onto a different topic. One I also did not want to talk about.
"Are you and Sirius ok?" she asked. "You seemed kinda peeved at him earlier."
"Just the usual stuff," I said brushing it off.
"Cassidy," she gave me a knowing look. I shook my head and just stayed silent. She let out a huff and then stood up.
"Well I have to go to a prefects meeting," she announced. "I'll see you at dinner."
"If I make it to dinner," I said under my breath. I waited in silence for another hour. Madam Pomfrey checked on me twice and the second time she brought another visitor.
"Mr. Black has insisted on seeing you Miss. Clark," she said rolling her eyes. "You have 15 minutes Mr. Black, make good use of that." She then went away and we both stayed silent for a minute before a spoke up.
"Well since I only have limited time I'd like to use it wisely," he said sitting on the edge of my bed. "Whats up?"
"Nothing," I said stiffly. "Whats up with you?"
"Cassidy," he started.
"I don't want to talk about it Sirius," I said putting my good hand up. "Just let it go."
"Will you please just explain to me why you insisted on playing Sherlock constantly? It's not good for you and it's not good for the rest of us either," he said.
"It's just easier that way," I told him.
"Easier for what?" he questioned.
"It's just easier Sirius so leave it!" I exclaimed. "Did you have anything else to say or where you just here to harass me?" He looked at me with a hurt expression and then stood up to leave.
"I care about you Cassidy," he said simply. "I care, but it's like you won't let me." He then left the room leaving me in my silence once more. I groaned and leaned my head back.
'Great,' I thought. 'There goes my relationship'
After another hour I was finally given the salve for my hand and I was good to go. Madam Pomfrey made me promise that I would be back tomorrow before Hogsmeade to get it looked at once more. I was replaying my conversation with Sirius in my head on my way down realizing how awful I must have sounded. When I sat down with my friends I noted his absence.
"Where's Sirius?" I asked James who was seated next to me.
"Probably in the dorms," he said through a mouthful of potatoes. "Whatever you did or said he's kinda pissed. Or upset, can't really tell."
I groaned. "I am a terrible girlfriend!"
"No you aren't Cass," Lily interjected. "You're just tired and stressed. We all are, NEWT's are really soon and we're all trying to study and learn and do everything else under the sun. You just need some sleep, we all do."
"I'll sleep when I'm dead," I said sharply. I then turned to James and started to whisper. "Can you relay a message to Sirius for me?"
"Sure," he said wiping his hands on his napkin. "Hit me with it."
I smiled and whispered it into his ear. He smiled and nodded. I thanked him and kissed his cheek then finished off the last of dinner and went back to the dorms to shower.
Cassidy and Sirius' little chat will be in the next chapter along with dress shopping for the Farewell Ball! I can't wait to describe the dress and everything to you guys! Cassidy shall look fab!
