DAY TWO ; 2:40 P.M.

The only reason that Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu hadn't seen the second bomb was because of the first one. He'd dodged the first one well enough – he'd seen Togami fumble with it, but his vision had been obscured by the smoke and he'd stumbled almost right on top of the second one. It was only quick reflexes that had saved him from blowing up.

He'd tried to run, and the explosion had still sent him sprawling. He couldn't hear right about now. He hoped that some hearing would come back, eventually, but all he could hear at the moment was a ringing. Both of his ears were bleeding. It had distracted him sufficiently, and now Byakuya Togami was gone.

He got up and everything swam before him. He'd barely be fit to lead a playground gang after this. First his eye, and how his hearing? If he couldn't hear anything, then he… well, then he might as well die. But there was no saying that his hearing wouldn't come back eventually, and the state of his eye probably depended on how long it took for him to kill Sonia Nevermind and Byakuya Togami, so all he needed to do was hurry.

He waited a little bit, in case there were more bombs, but he didn't see any indications of any explosions, so he decided to follow the trail that Togami had left. He kept his eyes on the ground, scanning the foliage and rocks and dirt, because he sure as hell wouldn't be able to hear anything. His bag was heavy on his back and the Uzi was heavy in his hand. He had two remaining hand grenades shoved in his pockets, so that he could grab them quickly if he needed to. It unnerved him slightly that he hadn't seen Sonia Nevermind yet. What if she was on the other end of the island?

What if him and Byakuya Togami killed each other, and she didn't have to do a damn thing?

No. No, he didn't think so. He didn't know for sure, but he thought that she had to be around here somewhere. And either way, just because he was possibly deaf now didn't mean he couldn't kill Byakuya Togami.

He didn't walk very quickly. He wanted to be able to figure out what was going on around him, so his main goal was to walk slowly enough to observe everything. He walked past a small copse of trees and glanced around, trying to see anything. The thing was, though, unless he went scrambling around everywhere, he'd walk straight past someone's hiding place. There was no real way… and unless he got his back to something right now, someone could sneak up on him and he'd never know.

An arrow hit the ground beside his foot and he jumped three feet in the air. He glanced around, glanced up, tried to gauge where it had come from, and kept one hand on the Uzi as he grabbed a grenade from his pocket. He ripped out the pin with his teeth and threw it in the direction he thought the arrow could have come from. He saw the explosion, and he saw movement – but oh hell, it couldn't have done much for his hearing and the best thing to do right now would be to find something he could put his back to.

He didn't know where Togami was, and the had a sinking suspicion that the one with the arrows had been Sonia Nevermind – out of everyone, she got a crossbow, and he didn't know where she was because she was hidden far too well, far too well and he couldn't hear anything at all, but he did know an approximation.

He steadied the Uzi and shot until he ran out of bullets.
