DAY TWO ; 2:58 P.M.
His heart was pounding through the bullet wound in his side, and his fingers searched his bag for his last grenade. His eye was closed, because he didn't want to see Togami and panic. He'd been so stupid. So focused on Nevermind he'd forgotten about Togami for a second. And Togami had gotten him. His only real thought of optimism was the fact that he had maybe, maybe killed Sonia Nevermind.
But that wouldn't matter if he bled out before he found the last grenade.
His fingers closed over it and he let out a breath that he hadn't known he'd been holding. He fumbled with the grenade for a few moments, unable to get a good grip on it, as his blood pumped through his fingers. A constant flow of thick red liquid.
But he gripped the grenade and he ripped out the pin with his teeth and he turned on his heel and he threw it as hard as he could, backing up as he did so, aiming straight for Togami's chest. Togami had been just standing there, swaying on his feet, and it was creepy as hell – but then the grenade caught him in the chest and dropped a few feet before exploding. Both Kuzuryuu and Togami were thrown by the explosion, Kuzuryuu going shooting into the bushes that he'd been shooting into earlier. Togami was out of sight.
Kuzuryuu very nearly landed on Sonia Nevermind. She said something, but he couldn't figure out what it was. She was wearing tattered boy's clothes over a bulletproof vest. She was bruised and a little bloody, but overall she didn't look too bad. She pointed the crossbow at his head and he stared straight back at her. His wound had been jarred by the explosion. It was bleeding even more heavily now. He had to fight to keep the gaze in his eye clear, had to fight to keep it all from going black.
He moved his hand near his pack and she tried to shoot him. But she missed. She missed, because he'd taken his other hand away from his wound and he had stabbed her in the arm. His teeth gritted because it hurt, it hurt to move like that and he was still losing blood and the ringing in his ears hadn't stopped, but he ripped the knife toward her elbow.
Sonia scrambled for a better grip on the crossbow, but her fingers were slick with her blood and her eyes were wide and he found Ikusaba's gun in his bag and he shot her between the eyes and leaned his head back. Her body crumbled beside him, her eyes dead and glazed, and Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu hoped that Byakuya Togami was dead.
2 STUDENTS REMAINING (?)
I was actually going to have Sonia win. That was the plan from about… oh, like a fourth of the way in? But then I wrote Kuzuryuu's death scene and it didn't seem right. And then it was like, "well, at this point it's really obvious that Sonia will win", so. This will probably end not with the next chapter but the next time we do a set? There'll be three more chapters, counting the one I'm going to put up today.
