Chapter Nine: Finally
I woke up facing Amy. She was lying on her back and I realized that I had my arm wrapped around her stomach. I sat up and quickly pulled my arm away blushing. Luckily Amy appeared to still be sleeping and didn't seem to notice.
I noticed that she looked so peaceful sleeping. She was beautiful. I leaned closer till my face was only a few inches away from her. This would be a really good moment to finally kiss her. I stare at her lips for a few moments and slowly start to lean closer.
Suddenly a loud bang came from somewhere outside. Amy eyes shot open and she sat up causing are heads to clash.
"Ah!" I say jumping back holding my head.
"Ow." Amy mumbled rubbing her forehead. "What happened?"
"I have no idea." I told her.
"Did you hear that noise; the loud bang?" She asked me letting go other head and jumping up.
"Oh…yeah, I heard that." I told her. I had almost forgotten about the bang because I was mad that I had, yet again, missed my chance to kiss Amy.
"What do you think it was?" Amy asked starting to get nervous. "Do you think it was the T-Rex?" she asked a bit more quietly
"I hope not." I told her getting up and heading towards the hatch. "I am going to check it out."
"No!" Amy yelled quietly. "I don't want you to get eaten!"
"Don't worry. I will be careful." I assured her.
"Eric…" Amy moaned still not liking the idea.
"Don't worry." I told her again. Then I tried to open the hatch. It wouldn't budge.
"What's wrong?" Amy asked me, looking up with concern.
"The door….it's stuck." I told her, continuing to push against it. "Can you give me a hand?" I ask her.
She nods and begins to help me push against the hatch. Finally it gave way and flung open causing a huge gush of wind to blow snow in.
"Is that…" Amy started to say.
"Yeah." I answered already knowing what she was going to say. "It's….snow."
"How can that be?" Amy asked. She was confused as I was. This island was close to Costa Rica, and it never gets snow there.
"I have no idea." I replied. I peered out the door and looked around. Everything was covered in snow.
"Do you see something that could've caused the banging? I can't see anything." Amy tells me.
I look around. I hear no evidence of dinosaurs and all I see is covered in snow. "Nothing…wait dinosaurs are reptiles which means….since it's snowing, they'd probably be hibernating somewhere."
I look of relief washes over Amy's face. "Thank goodness. At least we won't have to worry about them for awhile…but there is still the matter of the thing that caused the bang. If it wasn't a dinosaur…what could it have been?"
"Well…maybe it was some other creature." I say. "Maybe it was the person who caused the foot prints in the mud."
"Suspicious." Amy replies. She shivers and ducks back down into the water tank. "Do you think we should investigate?"
"Yeah, but we should at least wait until daylight comes. It's still dark plus the snow is still falling pretty hard." I reply. "We also aren't really wearing the right kind of clothing to be outside, especially at night." I say glancing at down at my clothing. Shorts and a shirt.
"True." Amy replies. "It sounded like it came a ways a way as well so we should be alright, but in the morning, let's go look around."
"Deal." I reply. I then step down and close the hatch of the water truck and sit next to Amy.
"So…Erik…want to tell me why you were so close to my face a few moments ago?" Amy asks with a smirk.
"I….I was…um." I tried thinking up an excuse but none came.
Amy laughed as I continued to stumble over my words. "You're stuttering, plus your face is all red. Are you shy about something?"
I quickly give up and burry my face into my arms. "I'm so lame."
"Nah, you're cute." Amy says giggling. "So what are you so shy about? Are you going to tell me?" She begins to lightly poke my arms.
I remain silent and keep my face hidden. She then begins tickling me. I cry out with laughter and begin to reach out to stop her.
"Stop…hah…please…" I say while laughing. She manages to knock me onto my back on the small bed. She crawls on top of me and begins tickling me more. I reach out and grab her hands and pull them away causing her body to fall on top of mine. Our faces, for the second time today, are only a few inches away. We're both dead silent. I can see her cheeks had become red. I feel like my heart is beating a million mile an hour.
"How about…instead of telling you…I show you?" I whisper to Amy. Then in a moment of courage I release one of her hands and bring my hand up and place it behind her neck. I feel her pulse beating fast against my hand as I gently pull her face down to mine. I close my eyes and lean forward until I feel her warm lips pressed against my own. It only lasts for few seconds and then I pull away.
I did it! I finally kissed Amy! I smile and open my eyes to see Amy smiling too. I can't help but want to kiss her again. I pull her face back down to my own and capture her lips with my own once more. I feel her kiss back and place a hand on my cheek. I place my arm around her waist and pull her even closer. I part my lips a bit, deepening the kiss. Amy copies my actions and parts her own lips a bit. It feels as if it's just me and her and that nothing else exists.
Sadly we pull away for air. I open my eyes one again as I catch my breath.
"Wow." I whisper, smiling. I lean forward and touch my forehead against Amy, who's also smiling. "Amy?" I say.
"Yeah?" she replies quietly.
"I should've told you this a long time ago…" I say.
"Tell me what?" she asks, confused.
"I love you, Amy." I tell her.
I see her face light up even more. "I love you too, Erik.
I feel myself smile even more and I wrap my arms around her and pull her into a tight hug. Despite being on an Island filled with dinosaurs, I don't think I've ever been happier.
