Disclaimer: Still don't own it
Well this is the final chapter of this story and I want to thank all my readers and reviewers in taking the time to read this fic. As a final request, I ask that you all leave a review so I know what you think. I also want to thank my friend Paraddicted for being able to pre-read every chapter as well as offer advice when I became stuck. My next fic won't be up for a while but will feature a 5A AU focused on the Core Four and Alison; though Mona plays an important part of the story. Once again, a thanks to you all and please leave a review!
Mona placed the box full of her stuff gently onto the ground.
As the last of their stuff was brought into their new apartment, the young woman collapsed and lay down on the bare mattress in the room.
Both she and Spencer had gotten the last of their things into their apartment just an hour ago; the movers having brought the larger items just this morning. They had decided to bring their personal belongings themselves and had to rent a small space on the train in order to transport it all; not wanting to waste time in order to make multiple trips back to Rosewood. The plan was to set up their new place together for the next few days and be done before the new semester started; especially since Mona would have her hands full with her students. Spencer was outside in the parking garage checking up on their vehicles even though the complex had a fully secured space; wanting to make sure her new BMW was just fine. Ever since the young woman had received it as a gift from a client, Spencer had made sure it was looking good all the time. It was currently parked next to Mona's car, which she still had from back in highschool, having spent the extra money for another parking space.
The apartment building was in an expensive part of Washington D.C., which they could easily afford, and was only a short distance from where they worked. When Mona got the position at the Private School where she now was a computer science teacher, Spencer had requested a transfer to her firm's Washington Branch and got it quite easily; having to be the Law Firm's brightest stars. While Mona could have gotten a position at any school close to Rosewood, the two women decided that they wanted to get away from Rosewood and start somewhere fresh; especially since just about everyone they knew was now gone. While Leona Vanderwaal still lived in the small town, which she was now the Mayor of for some time, Spencer's parents had retired to South Carolina where they ran their own Law Firm together. Melissa, Wren, and their twin girls had taken up residence in London a number of years ago while their friends had also scattered to the wind; though Aria and Ezra lived on the edge of the city with them teaching at the local university. Both Spencer and Mona were supposed to have dinner at their house in a week to catch up on old times.
The apartment itself was rather large and quite spacious; having three bedrooms and two bathrooms. They were on the second floor, which they wanted, and had quite a view of the Capitol building off in the distance. The walls of the apartment was a lime green, which Mona tolerated, and the wooden floors was a light brown; both deciding against having carpet since they didn't want to waste time cleaning it when it got dirty. They had a fully furnished kitchen, though they picked out the specifics, and it was fully stocked with food as provided by the owners of the apartment building they now lived it. Mona was frankly too tired to even cook so Spencer had suggested on having some Chinese delivered; having a full stack of menus that sat at the managers desk downstairs. The shorter woman had agreed and mentally promised to cook an excellent breakfast for them in the morning; Mona being the cook of the two while Spencer did most of the shopping. They had a bathroom next to the bedroom while there was a secondary one down the hall if they had guests. While the hall bathroom had the basics of a toilet, sink, and small shower; their personal bath had a rather large tub that could fit both of them, a pair of sinks, a toilet, and a shower stall. It had white tiled flooring, like the other bathroom, marble sinks, and the walls matched the color of the rest of the apartment.
Mona was about to get up when Spencer walked inside the room and plopped down next to her on the bed.
"The vehicles look fine; I like that they have the parking spaces so far apart from the other tenants so that we don't have to worry about someone scratching our cars," Spencer stated as she lay next her partner of eight years. While Mona was dressed in a light blue skirt with a white blouse, Spencer was in a pair of jeans and black t-shirt; though she usually dressed more formal for work.
"I would like to hope so giving what we are paying for this place; though I don't regret moving here at all. Are you hungry?" asked Mona as she grabbed her girlfriend's hand and clasped it lovingly. Spencer returned the clasp with one of her own and they lay on the bare bed, holding hands.
"Starting to; I am glad that we ate on the train after all since I doubt we could have made it with all our stuff on an empty stomach," stated the other woman as she watched the sky start to get dark. They wanted to get fully situated before night fell since they didn't want to risk doing things in the dark; even though they were in a low crime area.
"Agreed; I'll order our food so it shouldn't be long. We should probably get the bed set up since I don't think we can get anything really done tonight besides set up the television as well as our private Wi-Fi network," the shorter woman said as she sat up and glanced over at the box of computer equipment as well as the flatscreen TV next to it. They had already gotten the cable hooked up earlier in the week so that they could entertain themselves when they were home; with them having a list of shows they enjoyed watching together.
"That sounds fine; we will need to get rested up since we have a lot to do tomorrow. Hopefully, we have some time to go by your new office and do some decorating," Spencer said to her partner as they both got up and each grabbing a sheet from one of the boxes in the room. It only took them a couple of minutes to get the bed made and Mona went to hook up the electronics while Spencer ordered the food.
Both Mona and Spencer had stayed together through the years; never being separate from one another. They both had graduated Highschool at the top of their class, beating out Andrew Campbell even though he had been Class President. They then went to UPenn, Mona going into Computer Science while Spencer had gone into Law, and they lived together in Spencer's barn during their college years. It had been somewhat lonely though they still saw Aria up until she left with Ezra; they keeping to one another than make a whole new set of friends. They did see Toby Cavanaugh occasionally, comforting him when the truth about his mother had come out, and had helped him out when he got his settlement where he went to build himself a house. They had even gone to his wedding when he had hooked up with a woman named Evonne; the daughter of a State Senator. Jenna and Shauna still lived in town where they worked at a local pottery shop while Lucas ran his own electronic firm. When they both graduated early, due to their genius intellect, Spencer had gone to work for her mother's law firm while Mona started out as a teacher at the university.
While she worked, the young woman remembered that she still needed to call Hanna to thank her for the housewarming gift; though it would probably go to voicemail since the blonde was in Paris. In the aftermath of all of them graduating from Rosewood High, the group had managed to stay in contact somewhat; though they never really saw one another at all. While the blonde had gone into fashion with Caleb by her side, him signing up with a security firm, Emily had gone to California with Paige for their swimming careers. Aria had gone to Hollis and had stayed in Rosewood with Ezra; which wasn't really a surprise in all honesty. Both she and Ezra had married early and now had a small family while the others still had not taken the plunge. It was suggested through the many correspondences over the years that they should all get together at some point for a reunion; though how would be a bit of a chore given that they were all scattered across the world. The last time that she and Spencer had traveled was to London to visit her sister's family; which had been nice. When it came to going out of town, the two rarely did it due to their hectic lives.
The group had come together on the day that both she and Spencer had intervened when they had come under attack by their fellow students. It had been the hardest thing they had ever done and had managed to convince the school that the other girl's in the posse had been victims of Alison DiLaurentis as well as them; though it took a bit of lying to do so. After that day, a new group had formed though both Mona and Spencer had become the defacto leaders; ruling with a more benign hand than the deceased blonde. The police never found Alison in all those years, her still being buried underneath the factory, and the other girls still believed that the blonde was still out there; cemented by the fact that Spencer would fake a postcard from Alison every now and then to kind of scare them. As more revelations had come forward about the blonde and what she had done, the DiLaurentis family had quietly fled town due to mounting gossip going on. Even to this day, Alison DiLaurentis was considered a pariah and had an active warrant out for her arrest; as well as a reward provided by the Rosewood Police Department.
Cece Drake, or Charlotte DiLaurentis as she was now known, had come out of her coma though she claimed to have amnesia. Though Mona and Spencer had no proof she was lying, the police seemed to have been convinced and there was no evidence of her connection to her sister's crimes; though it was obvious to most that, that was the case. Last time they heard, Charlotte was running the family business along with her brother Jason in Florida after Kenneth DiLaurentis had died. The two had been on alert for some time in case she ever came for them, thinking they were involved with Alison's disappearance, but it seemed that the older blonde was no longer focused on them. There was even speculation that Charlotte believed that Alison had played her though they couldn't risk conversing with her to find out. So both Mona and Spencer decided to let bygones be to focus on their own lives; though they made sure to track any DiLaurentis that came near them. Jessica often claimed that her daughter had been framed though she never named who; thus her words were never taken seriously.
To this day, both Spencer and Mona never regretted on what had happened to Alison; though they talked about it on occasion. While the police had tried to look for Alison, they had eliminated all evidence of their involvement in everything; even going as far as to destroy all their A gear just to be sure. The funny thing was that if they had ever been found out by the police, which looked unlikely every day, the worst that would happen to them was tampering with a crime scene. They never murdered Alison and the evidence that she was A was fully entrenched in the other girl's minds; even solidified by the police which added to the list of charges Alison would have faced if she was still alive. Spencer knew they had done the right thing given everything that Alison had done to people; deserving to have her reputation sullied forever. Mona regretted that they couldn't visit the blonde to brag about it, though knowing was satisfaction enough.
"Foods on the way; did I tell you that I saw Emily on television? Apparently she and Paige are heading to Toronto for the Olympics," Spencer informed her girlfriend when she came back into the room. By then, Mona had the computer up and running and was onto the Wi-Fi; which wouldn't take long.
"That's nice; I saw their photos on Instagram of their vacation in Bali and replied," stated the other woman as she plugged in the power cord. She then went to calibrate the signals so that no one could hack into their network thus for more privacy.
"Maybe this reunion would be a good thing; it would be nice to catch up after all of these years," the taller woman said as she sat back down on the bed. She was getting tired and wanted to veg the rest of the night.
"We could; maybe even get together in Rosewood at your barn," suggested Mona as she finished the final connection. After going to hook up the television, she lay back down next to Spencer and turned it on to see what was airing.
"Well it might be hard to get Emily to come back; I think out of all the girls, she is the most paranoid about the possible return of Alison," Spencer said as she yawned; hearing a knock on the door. While she went to get the food, Mona went to grab them some utensils as well as some soda from the refrigerator.
"We should probably do something about that; I think these girls have suffered enough," Mona advised as they returned to the bed to eat. They had stripped off their clothing and were dressed in their shirts as well as some shorts.
"I guess; to our new life," Spencer said to her girlfriend as she poured two glasses of red wine, handing one to Mona. Facing one another, they tapped their glasses before drinking; then going to their food.
Once they were done, they lay down and cuddled; happy about their fresh start.
The End
