"So" Josh started as he sat down onto the green bean bag in the castle den whilst sipping his ice cold coke. After debriefing James about his time travel adventures with Kyle, the other defenders had joined them in the main room, after Drake swung the castle doors open, and announced that they had just had a 'meeting' with Ivar, "What did he say?"
Drake fell back into an orange bean bag, it was his idea that they retreat to Kyle's bedroom but he had kindly said that they would be more comfy in the den as that's where the secret food and drink supplies were kept, "Nothing much, he was kinda-"
"Boasting." Zoey finished off as she leant down to the mini fridge and pulled out a cold but refreshing lemonade, "And quietly saying how James and the defenders manipulated Annaka."
All eyes turned to Kyle and they watched as he uncomfortable shifted in his yellow bean bag. He placed his coke onto the ground as if he was about to make an influential speech about deceit and not listening to the enemy, instead the yellow defender looked like he was reflecting on certain events and zoned out completely from the group.
"Is he alright?" Amy whispered to Josh, everyone was concerned for him especially Josh since he was the one to witness all of Kyle's moods
"I generally have no idea." Josh replied, he hadn't known Kyle for long so he wasn't familiar with Kyle's normal behaviour however he deduced that it wasn't as he overheard him telling his mum that he was an emotional wreck.
"I heard him telling his mum that he was an emotional wreck." Zoey replied whispering as well. She glanced over at Kyle, who was zoned out in the past still, "I couldn't hear his mum's reply but clearly she was distressed as Kyle then said it was a joke."
"When I first met Kyle at the smoothie place." Drake said joining in on the conversation, "He seemed like a down to earth kid, we had a great time hanging out with him didn't we Ams."
Amy nodded in response, she too had thought that Kyle was a down to earth kid and he was always smiling and asking the pair about themselves. He in return told them that he lived at the castle with the Jr defenders or 'friends' as he called them back when he was keeping everything a secret but since the cocoon thing, he had changed into this great leader who knew exactly what to do in emergencies but also this quiet and distressed kid who would just sit in silence and blank out like he was now. The blue defender looked over to her friend and sighed gently, they had to do something.
~Ooooo~
"What on earth is this?" Harvey shouted at the robosaurs angrily and throwing the object on the ground. It was a simple task he had set them; go into the pink defender's house and take something that would lead them to know more about her i.e. why she was picked as replacement pink defender but instead the stupid robosaurs come back with, what appears to be, an old geography project, "What does this tell me about her?"
"Well for one thing, she likes South America." Ivar butted in as the robosaurs slowly retreated away from Harvey. Despite being apart (well the leader) of the evil party, it didn't stop the astray Viking from stating obvious facts. It was a trait all of the Graphum family members had picked up, "But apart from that nothing."
"Every little detail helps my dear." Neri said limping over to her eldest grandson, she slowly knelt down and picked up the A3 sheet of purple paper and studied it herself, she could pull off one last trick before her time was up, "We could brain wash her."
"Again? We tried that Nan and she broke it remember?" Ivar replied, it didn't want to risk exposing secrets to the opposite team.
"Not brain wash her to become evil." Neri's old and croaked voice said, "Brain wash her to go to South America then that will be one defender taken care off."
"I guess it could work." Ivar said, the brain washing did work well to begin with and going abroad would isolate her from the other defenders so there would be no help in breaking the brain wash down. It could work given that the other defenders were distracted, "Harvey, go to Pearl Canyon, not the town centre, the robosaurs are bored of destroying that area, and distract the red, blue, green and yellow defenders, and I'll grab the pink one."
"It's a bit late to be doing this now isn't it?" Harvey questioned, in the forest the sun was slowly setting and a cool breeze was picking up, there was no doubt that in Pearl Canyon it would be dark, "We might not even see which defender is which."
Ivar looked at Harvey in disbelief before shifting his gaze to the robosaurs, who stood up straighter. Ivar then ordered them to attack, "Got on then. You don't want to attack past the little ickle defenders bed time."
The robosaurs mechanically nodded and left the forest immediately with Harvey following them behind slowly. This plan could go great or fail miserably
~Ooooo~
Zoey watched as Kyle was engaged with his phone screen, whether his intentions were to ignore his team mates was questionable, he didn't look up or convers with them either. He had been doing that for the past hour or so. Occasionally he would take a sip of his now lukewarm coke and place a few crisps in his mouth.
Turning her attention back to her remaining, three friends who were in deep conversation about Ivar still and Josh's adventures during the past, she popped a few peanuts into her mouth and tried to pick up on from where she left off which was easier said than done as Josh was now talking about two babies in a cot and having to hide under a bed.
"So, who were the two babies?" Drake asked intrigued as he felt that this point in time had no relevance to either them, Josh or Kyle.
"Zsa-Zsa and Jack." Kyle replied scaring everyone to death as they all assumed he wasn't listening. However it was clear that he had been listening all along as the second part of the sentence came out cold and icy with no warmth and friendship "You know the black/red and blue defender before you guys?"
"Yeah we know." Amy replied quietly and quite shocked at the sudden change in Kyle's behaviour, it was only this morning that he was reassuring her that she was part of the team and shouldn't feel left out and down about it.
Just before Kyle could say anything else, James burst through the door, a small frown appeared at the sight of the drinks and food but it quickly disappeared as he looked directly at Kyle, "Robosaurs detected by the mall. You'll need these and hurry."
With that he threw a small bag at Kyle and left the defenders to themselves, who clambered up off the bean bags and ran out through the den door down the stair case and out through the main front doors. It would take them at least 10 minutes to get to the mall as it was on the other side of the town meaning that the robosaurs would have enough time to literally destroy the whole area.
"Guys, we need to suit up and use dino speed." Kyle informed them as he grabbed his dino DNA and wrist device in order to change into his defender outfit.
"Dino speed?" Zoey questioned, she hadn't been told about that before and she was pretty sure that the others hadn't either.
"Basically, we can ran very fast and get there in 3 minutes." Kyle explained quickly. Given that the powers were Astrid's doing, James had discovered Dino Speed and that it was meant to be used against the Jr defenders for a quick attack and defeat. James had taken the idea and announced it as an emergency protocol for the Jr defenders if they were too far away from the danger or if Jack couldn't drive them or Danny couldn't use his speed. Kyle placed his dino DNA in place along with his team mates, "It's Dino Time!"
"Raptorex!"
"Pterodactyl!"
"Triceratops!"
"Vulcanodon!"
"Tyrannosaurus!"
As soon as the coloured flashed disappeared, Kyle pressed the second button on his wrist device and sped away at high speed. The other defenders looked at each other doubtfully but shrugged as they all pressed there button and shot off at high speed which was amazing. Everything around seemed to be going in slow motion, they could never spot such detail in the street or on shops signs when normally walking. Also they couldn't believe that it just felt like a normal run, their legs weren't even tired.
When they all arrived at the mall, it was pitch dark and was hard to actually see anything at all due to there being no lights surrounding the mall also the robosaurs seemed to be silent like ninjas tip toeing on the ground, it was almost like there weren't there. If it wasn't for the thrashing and bashing of lamps and bins then the defenders wouldn't have suspected a thing.
Ivar was watching in the side lines with Harvey beside them and due to the bright type of pink that that consumed the pink defender's outfit, they could easily spot her. The Viking slowly crept from around the corner and, like the robosaurs, tip toed along the ground. He watched as Kyle pulled some objects out of a bag and pass them along to all the defenders. When he got closer, he could see that they were simply torches so he had nothing to worry about. Slowly, Ivar moved his right arm outwards and wrapped it around the pink defenders helmet and quickly dragged her away from the group as they ran forward to fight the robosaurs.
Zoey tried to contact the others on the comms but all she got was static. She then remembered James explaining that he was doing maintenance on the computer so electrical faults were plausible. Of course she was struggling and trying to put up a fight but he was a 6ft 5' Viking so she had no chance, her only hope was that someone would notice that she was missing and that she wasn't too far away from her friends as she heard them activate the dino canon.
"Put me down!" She screamed at the top of lungs hoping that someone in Pearl Canyon would at least hear her if not her team mates. She felt Ivar place her on the ground and rip the helmet off her suit and throw it on the ground. She noted that both Neri and Harvey were present as well.
"What a nice little reunion, all we need is Josh." Ivar commented while pacing up and down the small area she was kept in. She watched as he pulled out an A3 sheet of paper and looked at it, "Recognise this?"
Zoey looked at it whilst trying not to show any emotion, that way she wouldn't be giving anything away. She shrugged her shoulders in response even though she knew fully well that it was a very old geography project.
"Well, you like South America." Ivar said as the bright orange street light reflected off his face causing a devilish glow, "So how about a quick visit?"
"Thanks for the offer but I'll much prefer ripping you to shreds." Zoey fought back but as soon as she advanced towards Ivar, he grabbed her again.
"She's feisty like her predecessor." Ivar commented then a wicked grin grew onto his face, "Or are you trying to be like her? Is that it? Afraid you can't match up to the work of Annaka Graphum? Let's face it; the Jr defenders would have taken the opportunity to eat me for their dinner earlier."
Zoey tried to ignore the comments and tried to replace them with the comments Kyle said about her earlier, by the side of the hospital, earlier. She struggled some more but Ivar had a strong grip on her arms. It was bound to leave a bruise. She heard footsteps come up from behind her; she winced as she was positive that it was some robosaurs.
"Now, come on Ivar, this is hardly fair." A familiar voice confidently spoke up from behind her. She turned her head slightly to see Kyle slowly coming up the alley way, "I thought Vikings were men of honour!"
"Is that mummy's been saying?" Ivar hit back immediately with the evil grin still on his face, "Oh wait, mummy isn't here."
"We're not talking about my mum, I'm here for Zoey." Kyle bit back even harder and even colder than before. It kept walking forwards till he was directly behind Zoey as if he was ready to catch her, "Come on, put her down and let Harvey fight your battle for you, after all that's what your good at."
All that was missing from the confrontation was a group of teenagers going 'oooo' after every sentence. Ivar dropped Zoey onto the fall and Kyle pulled her up gently and swung her behind him. He then stood right in front of Ivar, whose were glowing with anger and humiliation. He was biting his upper lip in rage and is glare could kill any other teenager. A few moments later, Ivar pulled back and the familiar blue light blinded a helmetless Zoey. Everyone had retreated.
Kyle picked up her pterodactyl helmet and walked back down the alley just as the others threw the last robosaur against the adjacent wall. By now it was past nine, so the Vulcanodon, tyrannosaurs and pterodactyl defenders powered down and decided to go home whilst Josh and Kyle would yet have to debrief James again.
Zoey waved goodbye to Drake and Amy at the top of the street then opened the front door. To her surprise no one was up waiting for her. She gave a sigh of relief as it meant that she had until tomorrow to explain why she was out till this late.
