The Beginning of the End-Chapter 44

~A Teen Wolf fan-fiction collaboration between Miss E Charlotte and Sage Londyn~

"What's going on?" Derek asked as Avery stepped off the last stair and looked around the underground space. He could hear her heart beat was hastened.

"I trusted you, I believed what you told me." She said shaking her head.

"About what?" He asked.

"You made it sound like you turned Isaac to help him, but you didn't. You turned him because you need a pack…" She explained.

"I did help him." Derek argued.

"But that wasn't your main reason. I know that you need 2 more betas to make a pack, you told me to trust you and then you lied to me." Avery explained what was upsetting her.

"I didn't lie to you." He said shaking his head.

"You just neglected to tell me the whole truth, but it's the same as lying. You can't do this." She continued to argue with him.

"I didn't tell you because I knew you'd react like this." He admitted to her, getting a little frustrated.

"It was just a few days ago that we all had to bust Isaac out of jail! He can't even go to school or anything because he's still wanted for the murder of his father. You did that, you understand that right?" She asked angrily.

"There is strength in numbers, I have already explained how packs work." He reminded her.

"Yeah, but Derek you're an alpha! You've got plenty of power." She said.

"Being an alpha without a pack isn't good enough, I'm not strong enough on my own." He said.

"You can't keep doing this!" She yelled, frustrated at him.

"You don't even know what you're talking about." He yelled back.

"Yes I do." She snapped.

"I need to build my pack and I'm not going to stop." He stated, his jaw tense with anger.

"You have to! Not only are you going to get Isaac and whoever you turn killed, you're drawing attention to yourself. Scott told me that Gerard said the code is off, it's war." She admitted to him.

"Which is another reason I need a pack. There are no rules anymore, no code. They're going to try to kill me regardless of if I have a pack or not." He said, his voice harsh as he was getting more frustrated at her.

"You're being reckless." She accused.

"Reckless? I'm being reckless?" He shot back at her.

She nodded.

"You don't know anything about this. You can't just Google 'werewolves' and know everything." He said.

"I know enough to know it's a foolish plan." She stated flatly.

"Avery, you just need to stay out of this." He said, his voice had a slight growl to it as he spoke.

Her eyes widened at him, "Don't you get it? I can't stay out of this… how am I supposed to be with you when you're biting and turning my classmates and friends into werewolves?"

He angrily shook his head, trying to keep his emotions in check.

"I can't just turn a blind eye to this, Derek." She said, her voice quieter.

"You need to understand this is important to me, I need a pack and I'm not going to stop until I've got one. I'm not turning anyone who doesn't want it." He argued.

"That's beside the point." She hissed with narrowed eyes.

"No, the point is that you're not going to tell me I can't build a pack. I'm an alpha." He reminded her.

She rolled her eyes at him.

"So your pack is really important to you?" She asked.

He nodded.

"More important than me?" She asked him, her eyes locking with his as she spoke.

"What are you talking about?" He asked.

"I'm talking about the fact that I cannot stay with you and accept what you're doing. Every time someone misses a day of school, in the back of my mind I'm going to be wondering if you turned them." She admitted.

"Stop it, Avery. Just stop… don't ask me to pick between keeping you or building a pack." He said, still mad that she was trying to tell him he couldn't do something.

"I'm sorry it's come to this. I love you, but there are certain lines I can't pretend aren't being crossed." She admitted, she could feel her heart racing as she waited for his response.

"You know I love you." He said after a pause.

"Then the decision shouldn't be too hard." She said quietly.

"I have to build a pack, it's more important than you know." He said as he closed his eyes and let out a sigh.

Trying to ignore the tears burning her eyes she calmly said, "More important than me."

"If that's how you want to look at it." He stated, immediately regretting it.

He could have explained more about why he needed the pack, but she'd made him mad.

She bit down on her bottom lip and nodded as she said, "Bye Derek."

He stood in silence as he watched her leave, every fiber of his being wanted to run after her, but he stayed still.

A little while later Avery pulled up outside of Scott's house, and knocked on the door.

"Hey…" He greeted, confused as to why she was at his house.

"Sorry for just showing up, but I wanted to tell you that you're on your own trying to stop Derek from turning people." She said as she turned and started back to her car.

"I take it the talk didn't go well?" He asked as he followed her to her car.

"We broke up." She admitted.

His eyes widened, "I… I'm sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen."

"I know, it's not your fault." She assured him as she opened the driver's door to her car.

"Avery, I'm sorry." He repeated, as he followed her out to her car.

She let out a small, dry laugh at his words "Again Scott, this isn't your fault. We got into a fight and I told him he needed to decide what was more important, me or building a pack."

"And he chose the pack?" Scott asked in disbelief, he'd choose Allison over anything.

"Don't put everything on the line if you're not willing to lose it, right?" she said as she got in her car.

He watched as she backed out of the driveway and sped off.

That evening, Teagan sat in the middle of her bed as she tried to get caught up on her school work. With all the stuff going on with Isaac; breaking him out and constantly thinking about him, she had not been able to concentrate and had gotten a little behind.

She was in the middle of writing down an answer in her notebook when she heard the doorbell ringing, causing her to look up with a confused expression on her face.

It wasn't often that a friend would use the doorbell.

Avery usually used the spare key to let herself in and Jackson, and apparently Isaac now, would just crawl in her window, but she knew it couldn't be anyone to bad since Aspen didn't even lift his head; he continued to sleep beside her.

"Wow, I feel so protected." Teagan said sarcastically, as she stood up from the bed. She noticed his tail wagging, meaning he heard her comment but choose to ignore her as he continued to sleep.

She chuckled to herself as she left her bedroom and made her way downstairs to the door. She peeked out and saw Stiles walking back toward his Jeep.

Quickly opening the door and calling out his name, to ask him what he was doing.

"Sorry, I thought maybe you were sleeping so I was just going to leave." Stiles said, as he turned around and walked back toward the front door.

"No I mean, what are you doing here?" Teagan asked, confused.

"Oh well, I-I thought we were friends." Stiles said, his face dropping a little.

"No we are, but I'm just surprised to see you at my house." Teagan quickly explained, then she stepped aside and gestured for him to come in.

"I just.. I was wondering if you have talked to Avery." Stiles said, as he walked inside her house, then added worriedly, "I've been trying to call her but she won't answer."

"She's probably busy with Derek." Teagan suggested, not understand what the big deal was.

"I take it you haven't heard the latest." Stiles said with a wide eyes.

Teagan shook her head as she shot him a confused look and waited for him to continue.

"Derek and Avery break up." Stiles said.

"What? When?" Teagan asked, now understanding why he was so worried. She was worried now as well. Derek was the first guy Avery had ever fallen for and now she was experiencing her first real heart break.

"Earlier today." Stiles answered, then told her about Scott asking her to talk to Derek, try to convince him to not start a pack then her showing up later to tell Scott that the talk didn't work and they had broken up.

"Oh my God." Teagan said softly, feeling bad for her best friend, then she asked, "and you haven't been able to get in touch with her since?"

Stiles shook his head then said, "I've tried to call and text her."

Teagan told Stiles to follow her, as she went upstairs to her room to grab her cellphone. Stiles followed her into her room then instantly went to her bed to lay down and pet Aspen, who was excited to see him.

"Sure Stiles, just make yourself at home." Teagan said sarcastically.

"Thanks." Stiles said, not looking at her as he kept petting Aspen.

Teagan giggled as she tried to call Avery, but like Stiles, she never got an answer. She sent her a quick text, telling her if she didn't answer she and Stiles were coming over.

After sending the text she sat her phone down on her dresser then looked at Stiles as she asked, "How did she seem? When she was at Scott's?"

"He said she seemed ok." Stiles answered, then added, "which surprised him cause he thought she would have been falling apart.

"That doesn't surprise me. Avery doesn't fall apart, at least not in front of most people. She has only cried to me a few times in her whole life." Teagan explained.

"So if she's not crying that's a bad thing?" Stiles asked confused.

"Oh yes, it's a very bad thing." Teagan answered, knowing Avery had a tendency to hold everything in.

Stiles open his mouth to say something but before he could, his cellphone began to ring. He pulled his phone out and felt his eyes go wide when he saw it was Avery.

"Avery? Are you ok? Please tell me you're crying." Stiles said, as soon as he answered the phone.

"What? No, I'm not crying." Avery said over the phone.

"She's not crying." Stiles said, as he looked at Teagan with a worried expression.

"Put it on speaker." Teagan and Avery said at the same time.

"Whoa, that was freaky." Stiles mumbled, as he put his phone on speaker and sat it on the bed.

"Avery..." Teagan began.

"Teagan don't come over." Avery said, interrupting her.

"You're joking right?" Teagan asked, then said, "Do you really think I'm going to let you go through this alone?"

"No. Which is why I'm asking you and Stiles to just give me tonight." Avery pleaded, "Teagan I know you want to help me through this and I love you for that, but I just want to be alone tonight, ok?"

Teagan sighed then said, "Ok, ok I'll give you tonight but tomorrow you are staying with me."

"Thank you." Avery said, before ending the call.

"So now what?" Stiles asked Teagan.

"Now we leave her alone for the night." Teagan said, then added, "I don't like it, but it's what she wants and we have to respect her decision."

"She'll be ok thought right?" Stiles asked.

"In time." Teagan answered, hoping she was right.

Stiles nodded his head but didn't say anything as he reached out to pet Aspen. He hoped she was right too. After petting the dog a few more times, he looked up at her and asked, "So how are you doing? With all the Isaac stuff."

"Honestly I don't know." Teagan answered, then added, "It was scary seeing him like that."
"I know what you mean. The first time Scott wolfed out I thought he was going to kill me and Avery." Stiles said, then added, "But he learned to control it and after a while you just see him as Scott and you realize he's the same guy you always knew, he's just stronger and feels the need to kill people once a month."

Teagan giggled at his last comment and said, "That's no different than every girl in the world."

"Exactly, just give him chocolate and everything will be ok." Stiles joked.

Teagan laughed again then got serious as she asked, "Do you think Isaac can control it?"

"I think with you he can." Stiles answered, then added when she shot him a confused look, "Being with Allison helped to keep Scott centered and I think you could have that effect on Isaac."

"You care about him don't you?" Stiles asked when he saw the look on her face while she was thinking of Isaac.

Teagan nodded her head as she said, "Yeah, I do."

"Then you can help him and I think he'll be ok." Stiles said honestly.

"I hope so." Teagan said back with a sigh, as she ran a hand through her hair.

Close to an hour later Avery was standing in her bathroom staring in the mirror at herself, Derek had picked something over her.

Decided something was more important than hanging onto her and she'd never felt more unwanted.

She'd been racking her brain trying to figure out why he didn't want to stay with her, he hadn't even tried to stop her when she left.

Walking out into her room she change into a short, tight black dress and spritzed herself with perfume before making a phone call, a little while later she looked out of her window and saw a black S.U.V pull into her driveway.

She took a deep breath and opened her bedroom door until Liam, the singer from the band she'd had at her party walked up to her.

"Hey." She said, flashing him a wide smile.

"Hey." He said, as his eyes scanned her body.

Once they were in her room, she turned around and shut the door.

When she turned back to face him he was only a few inches away from her.

"Ready?" She asked him with an arched eyebrow as she reached forward grabbing his belt pulling him closer as she started to unfasten it.

"I thought you were done with the whole 'friends with benefits' thing?" He reminded her of what she'd told him a while ago.

"Yeah, well guys aren't really good for anything except sex." She mumbled as she reached forward pulling his face to hers as she hungrily moved her lips against his.

She needed to feel wanted again, know that whatever problem Derek had with her wasn't something wrong with her.

And she wanted to feel anything else, besides the pain of her broken heart.

Breaking the kiss he looked at her, his breathing already ragged, "I'm so happy you called, god I missed this…" He said as he held onto her sides and looked down at her body being hugged tightly by the black dress.

Her eyes locked with his and she frowned slightly, there was nothing in his eyes but lust and desire.

She'd gotten so used to looking into Derek's eyes and being able to see that he loved her, but that was over now.

Leaning in he kissed the side of her neck and then looked at her as he said, "God, you are so hot."

"Just shut up and kiss me." She breathed out, just wanting to focus on the physical sensations at the moment.

His hands tangled in her blonde hair and his tongue forced it's way between her lips, her held tightly onto her sides as he kissed his way down to the side of her neck.

Leaning her head back she let out a small moan and glanced over to the light switch as she reached out and shut the light off.

"Leave the lights on… I want to see you, all of you." He said as he turned the lights back on and started to slide his hands up her outer thighs.

"No, I'm not feeling very hot today." She admitted with a frown as she started to reach over and shut the lights back off.

Catching her hand in one of his, his voice was full of avidity as he said, "Avery, calm down. You are easily the sexiest girl I have ever seen."

Swallowing hard she nodded and forced the insecurities the day had left her with from her mind as the pair made their way over to her bed.

The heat of the kiss grew as he now lay on top of her and she reached between them, unfastening his jeans as he nibbled on the side of her neck causing her body to arch up from the mattress with a pleasured moan.

Leaning her head back against her pillows she breathed heavily as she felt his hand start to move up her inner thigh.

The moment was interrupted when Derek grabbed Liam by the back of his shirt and threw him across the room.

"Derek!" Avery yelled angrily as she jumped off the bed and ran to where he now had a terrified Liam pinned to the wall.

"Stop it! It's not his fault!" She yelled as she tugged on Derek's arm.

"Yeah man, you heard her. It's not my fault, she called me!" Liam quickly exclaimed.

Derek's voice was low and had a growl to it as he angrily said, "Don't ever touch her again… don't even look at her."

Liam's eyes widened, "I won't, I swear. I'll lose her number."

"Get the hell out of here." Derek growled as he finally let go of the scared teenager.

Liam took the stairs 3 at a time, not able to get out of the house fast enough.

Avery stared at Derek in shock as he faced her open bedroom door where Liam had just fled.

His eyes were now glowing red and his canine fangs were showing, as he thought more about coming in the window of her room to see another guy on top of her.

"What the hell was that?" She asked him.

Once his teeth retracted and his eyes went back to normal he turned and faced her.

"What the hell were you doing?" He snapped at her.

"What are you even doing here?" She asked, ignoring his question.

After Avery had left, all Derek could think about was the look on her face when he told her building his pack was more important to him.

He had come there to explain why he needed a pack, but then he saw her making out with someone else and was enraged.

Still so mad he was seeing red he took a few steps forward, his eyes glowing red again as he growled, "What the hell were you doing?"

"Living my life Derek, you made it clear that I'm not that important you. I'm not going to sit around and wait for you to change your mind. I'm not going to put my life on hold for anyone." She snapped crossing her arms over her chest.

"It hasn't even been 4 hours since you stormed off." He argued, anger coursing through his veins.

"So what? What am I supposed to do? You don't want me anymore…" She explained how she felt.

"No, I never said that. You're mad because I didn't do exactly what you wanted. The world doesn't revolve around you, and you're just acting out because you didn't get your way." He yelled angrily, as he thought of another guy having his hands on her.

"I'm well aware that the entire earth does not revolve around me, but yours should." She said, her voice getting quieter as she felt tears burning her eyes.

He opened his mouth to say something, but she didn't let him speak.

"I don't care if it makes me sounds selfish, or how it makes me sound… but I want to be the center of your world, or at least I wanted to be." She said, angrily clearing her throat as her voice cracked.

He shook his head, he wanted to tell her that she meant more to him than anything or anyone else but he was so mad from what he'd just seen he was afraid if he opened his mouth again he'd say things he'd regret.

"Because I pretty much made you the center of my universe…" She continued as she shook her head, determined not to cry in front of him.

She waited for him to talk but when he didn't say anything she snapped "Can you just freaking say something? I'm standing here pouring my heart out to you and you can't even talk to me… this is exactly why I called Liam."

At the mention of Liam's name, Derek's mind flashed back to coming in the unlatched window and hearing Avery moaning at having the teenager's mouth and hands all over her.

"Don't you get it? He doesn't care the least bit about you… this is exactly why guys just used you for a piece of ass, because you let them." He angrily growled at her.

His eyes locked with hers and he couldn't believe he'd just said that to her, it was a low blow and he knew it.

"Just get out of my room, get out of my house… and don't come back." She said, her heart raced inside of her chest and she knew she was about to break down, but she wasn't going to let him see her weak.

He wanted to tell her that he was sorry for what he'd said and tell her how badly he wanted to stay with her, but again he stayed silent.

"Just go!" She screamed.

Hearing footsteps on the stairs and knowing if he opened his mouth again he was going to yell at her more, he tried to jump from the window before whoever was in the house came into her room.

But Avery's dad opened the door to her room right when Derek jumped from the window.

"Oh my god! He jumped!" Richard exclaimed as he ran over to the window and looked down, expecting to see a badly injured Derek laying on the ground, but there was no one there.

"He… Derek jumped out of this window, I saw him." Richard said looking at his daughter.

"Yeah, he did. And I hope he hit the ground hard enough he broke something…" Avery said as the tears she'd been fighting to keep in started to spill down her cheeks.

"What happened?" He asked his daughter as he glanced back out of the window.

"Why are you even in my room?" she asked angrily as she wiped her cheeks and walked past him, shutting her window and latching it for the first time since she and Derek had started dating.

"I heard a loud thud, and some boy ran out of here looking like he'd seen a ghost. Then I could hear you yelling, I didn't know what the hell was going on." He admitted, still confused by everything he'd seen.

"I just need to be left alone right now, I need a shower and I need sleep. I have school in the morning." She mumbled as she grabbed her pajamas and went into the bathroom without another word to her dad.

Richard looked around Avery's room seeing the blankets and sheets were rustled around, he closed his eyes not wanting to think about anything that could have just been happening.

Looking back out of the window he tried to figure out how Derek had managed to walk away from the fall, it was a straight shoot down from the window to the ground; nothing to slow or break the fall.

When he heard the shower running from Avery's bathroom, he headed back down stairs pulling her bedroom door shut behind him
