Chapter 47 – It's The End Of The World As We Know It
Dino Mansion
The Sun had been up for a few hours and time left to stop Chaos and the meteor was just 4 hours. The rangers had eaten breakfast together but there had been a tense silence around the table, they knew what they were about to face. After everyone was done, Tyler led them all outside to the front of the Mansion. He took a good look at the first place he had been able to call home for a long time and wondered if he would ever see it again. "We'll be back", his father whispered in his ear.
"You always did know what I was thinking", Tyler chuckled.
The red ranger looked around at his team and saw that a lot of them were also taking one final look at the Mansion. He decided that now was the time to earn his leadership stripes, "Everyone listen up", he began, "we all know that Chaos is strong but that doesn't mean he's invincible". He paused for a moment, "After we win today, we're going to come back here and have one hell of a party. Most importantly we're going to come back for our friends, family and the ones that we love", he gaze lingered on Shelby for a few moments.
"Our team kicks ass", Chase added, "so let's go kick Chaos' ass".
"Not quite so eloquent Chase", Chloe called out.
"This wouldn't be the first time that a ranger team had faced an apocalypse", Jason began, "but I've got every confidence in you". Everyone gave him a quick nod, "I'll be cheering from the sidelines guys".
Everyone made one last check of their equipment and slowly walked away from the Mansion. Ivan though spotted that they had a tag along, "Jo what are you doing?" he asked.
"I'm coming with you", she replied, "the residents of the city might need some assistance".
The gold ranger nodded slowly, "Alright if you're sure".
"I am", Jodella replied, "I need to earn my redemption and who knows, I might bring a smile to people in the process", she added and bounced away.
The rangers didn't call on their Dino Cycles, instead they jumped in Tyler's pick up or the Valley Repairs company van. They didn't see any signs of trouble in the suburbs but as they approached the city itself, they began to notice some signs of a disturbance. There had clearly been a battle in the area recently as several cars were damaged along with a number of building, "Vivix?" Riley asked the group in the van.
"Most likely", Bastian replied as he kept a look out for the footsoldiers. They saw a couple standing in the road and Koda took great satisfaction in running them over. He also saw in his mirrors that someone in the pick up behind them had also taken out a Vivix with the passenger door. Soon they found that they couldn't proceed any further by car so they abandoned their vehicles and completed the journey into the city center by foot. A couple more Vivix tried to surprise them by jumping out from an alley but Chase and Matt quickly repelled this minor threat.
In the center of town they were surprised to find a small contingent of Vivix being held off by a well organised group of civilians. Riley wasn't surprised to see Marissa leading the defence group and she appeared to be surrounded by the rest of the High School fencing team. He could also see his parents standing shoulder to shoulder with his girlfriend. Also amongst the group were Tyler's and Shelby's boss from the diner and Summer Landsdown. She was accompanied by a tall man with dark hair who the rangers assumed was her boyfriend.
There was one person who the pink ranger really wasn't expecting to see, "Dad?" she muttered in confusion.
"See I told you he cared", Tyler nudged her in the side. Tyrelle briefly looked and nodded in the direction of his daughter. Shelby quickly left the group to and leapt onto the back of the creature that was attacking her Dad. She twisted the monster's neck before kicking it in the stomach, sending it crashing into the side of a parked car.
The pink ranger looked at her father and her eyes began to moisten. She closed the gap between them and threw her arms around his neck, "You checked your voicemail", she sobbed.
Tyrelle wrapped his arms around his daughter and pressed his head against hers, "I'm so sorry", he said and the pair held each other for a few moments. Tyrelle kissed her forehead, "Give them hell", he whispered into her ear.
"Come on Shel", Tyler gently grabbed her arm, "we've got to go". Shelby nodded and released her hold on her Dad.
"We'll talk later", Tyrelle said to his daughter as Tyler led her back towards the other rangers.
"Alright rangers this is where I leave you", Jodella called out to the group.
"Stay safe Jo", Koda replied and the rangers ran in the direction of the beach.
"Time to show the world what a joyful warrior can do", Jodella smirked and called her axe into her hand. She set about the nearest Vixix with a broad smile on her face, slicing them clean in two. She turned towards the next creature and morphed back into her monster form, which stunned the civilians for moment. Once they saw she was on their side, they shrugged it off, "Alright everyone, keep smiling", she cried and decapitated another Vivix.
The sounds of the battle in the city center were soon lost to the rangers as they reached the main path leading down to the beach. A few minutes later they were running across the sand in the direction of the Ice Palace. To their surprise Chaos hadn't laid out a welcoming party and their path to the Palace was completely unobstructed.
The sand underfoot soon turned black and once again they were in the shadow of the palace. Outside the palace, Chaos was resting on his sword and looking out to sea, "I knew you'd come back eventually", he began, "you're cutting it a little close aren't you".
"Not really", Shelby replied, "we've still got almost three hours to kick your ass".
"Overconfidence is not a good quality, pink ranger", Chaos stated and pulled his sword out of the icy sand, "so are we going to do this or what?"
Not needing a second invitation, the rangers powered up their Energems and inserted them in their morphing devices, "Dino Spirits, Dino Charge", Tyler called.
"Ptera Brace, Dino Charge", Ivan added and the rangers morphed in a flash of light.
"Alright Chaos hear us roar", Tyler began, "the fanged warrior, Dino Charge Red Ranger".
"The sharpshooting hero, Dino Charge Black Ranger".
"The armoured protector, Dino Charge Blue Ranger".
"The bladed fighter, Dino Charge Green Ranger".
"The horned heroine, Dino Charge Pink Ranger".
"The rumbling warrior, Dino Charge Gold Ranger".
"The clashing heroine, Dino Charge Aqua Ranger".
"The head strong hero, Dino Charge Grey Ranger".
"The marine heroine, Dino Charge Purple Ranger".
"The shining warrior, Dino Charge Silver Ranger".
"Protected by the ancient spirits, Power Rangers Dino Charge", they called in unison.
"Are you done yet?" Chaos yawned, "you're wasting valuable time".
"Don't worry Chaos, we're got plenty of time for this wild ride", Tyler replied and summoned a Dino Blade, "alright everyone, hit him with everything we've got".
Chaos immediately came under attack from several blasters and he struggled to deflect the energy bolts. The sand was peppered with stray laser blasts and Chaos' sword was a blur as he defended him. Out of the smoke came Tyler, Ivan and Riley flew through the air and brought their swords crashing down on to Chaos. The green skinned creature stumbled backwards and landed on his backside, "Nicely done rangers", he smiled, "shame that will be your only success".
"We'll see about that Chaos", Koda replied and slammed Energem 15 into his Dinovolver, "Dino Flare", he called and shot a powerful stream of fire at the creature. Chaos' eyes widened and he quickly jumped out the way of the fire. The attack hit the outer skin of the Ice Palace, knocking several chunks of ice to the ground.
"Try this on for size", Matt inserted Energem 21 in his morpher, "Dino Gravity". He pulled the trigger and suddenly Chaos felt like he weighed a thousand tons and he could barely move. Once again he was bombarded with several rounds of laser fire. The energy bolts tore into his outer skin and he winced in pain from the blows. He didn't want to admit it to the rangers but they were giving him his toughest battle for a very long time.
"Enough games", Chaos bellowed and fired a stream of lightning at the grey ranger. Matt partially moved out the way and he was only clipped on the shoulder but that was more than enough to experience the searing pain from the attack. The grey ranger dropped his Dinovolver and the gravity field was broken.
Chaos immediately charged towards Matt with his sword ready to attack but his path was soon blocked by Chase and Kiera. The purple ranger blocked Chaos' sword with her own whilst Chase fired his blaster straight into the face of the monster. Chaos' head was violently thrown back and his bright yellow fin was shattered.
As Chase twirled his Dinovolver around his finger, Chaos reached up and felt the top of his head, "You will pay for your insolence", he bellow and charged up his sword.
"Everyone get down", Shelby cried and quickly inserted Energem 17 into her morpher. A cloud of gas shot out the muzzle of her blaster just as Chaos shot another jet of lightning at the rangers. There was a bright flash and a massive explosion as the lightning hit the gas cloud and Chaos was thrown back in the wall of the Ice Palace. He hit the wall with a loud crack and slumped to the ground.
A mixture of dust, smoke and sand hung in the air as Chaos slowly got back to his feet, "I see you've thought about your strategy carefully", he called out across the murky beach. "If you give up now, I might consider stopping the meteor strike".
"Not going to happen Chaos", Tyler replied as he and the other core rangers stepped through the cloud. The original five rangers had entered armour mode and had their special weapon in hand, "We're not going to rest until you're destroyed".
Chaos shrugged, "It's your funeral", he dragged his blade through the sand and slashed it in an upwards motion towards the team but Koda was able to deflect the blow with his shield. Tyler punched Chaos in the side with his Tyranno Fang before kicking him in the head with a straight kick.
"Little double team Riley", Chase asked.
"Sounds like a plan", the green ranger replied and sent a green energy wave towards Chaos. Chase fired his Para Shot, accelerating the energy wave. Chaos raised his sword but he was barely able to block the attack. He found himself sliding backwards in the sand as he braced his hand against the flat side of his blade.
The pink ranger then jumped over all of them and rammed her Tricera Drill in the chest of Chaos. This additional attack sent Chaos tumbling across the sand, "Alright we've got him on the ropes", Shelby cried out joyfully.
"Support team, fire", Tyler called out and the five rangers stepped forward.
"Anklyo Hammer", Chloe smashed her aqua coloured hammed in the body of Chaos and once again he crashed into the side of the Ice Palace.
"Pachy Crash", Matt lowered his head and the crown of his helmet shone brightly. He charged into Chaos and rammed his head into his chest, pinning him against his fortress.
"Plesio Rocket", Kiera fired her special weapon the purple rocket exploded on contact with Chaos, inflicting further damage.
"Titano Fist", Bastian jumped into the air and slammed his fist into the ground. A powerful shockwave slammed into Chaos and the villain staggered forwards like a punch drunk prize fighter.
"Lance time everyone", Tyler called and quickly his team assembled the Dino Lance. Ivan locked and loaded some Energems into his Thunder Blade, "This is for the Earth Chaos", Tyler called and launched the Lance at Chaos just as Ivan send a wave of lightning at the monster. Both attacks hit their target and there was a huge explosion that engulfed Chaos.
"That seemed a little easy", Kiera muttered to the others.
"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth", Riley replied to the purple ranger.
The ranger's attention was suddenly grabbed by the sound of manic laughter emanating from the huge pillar of smoke in front of them, "Did you really think I would go down that easily", Chaos' voice called out. The villain walked towards them with the point of the Dino Lance in his hand. He turned the Lance around and snapped it over his knee, breaking it in half.
"He's destroyed our special weapons", Koda cried.
"That's not the only thing I'm going to destroy", Chaos roared, "now feel the true power of the dinosaurs". He lunged towards the blue and grey rangers and sliced them across the chest with his sword. Next in his line of fire was the purple ranger. He kicked the teen in the stomach before picking her up over his head and tossing her aside. The green and aqua rangers offered a little resistance but they soon fell victim to his sword, joining the growing pile of fallen rangers.
With five rangers left, Chaos put the black, gold and pink rangers in his sights. He raised his sword into the air and jammed it into the ground. The resulting shockwave knocked them off their feet and they rolled across the sand. "I'm going to look forward to this", Chaos chuckled, "father and son at the same time". Chaos swung his sword but Bastian intercepted the attack intended for his son. Tyler looked at the green skinned villain and tried to launch an attack of his own but Chaos stopped that instantly. Grasping the red ranger's fist he pushed him away before kicking him forcefully in the stomach. Tyler joined his team mates face down in the sands of Hunston Valley.
"Now feel the wrath of the Legion of Deboss", Chaos raised his sword into the air and green and red energy gathered at the tip of the blade. With a mighty swing a wave of energy flew towards the rangers, striking them in the chests. At first the rangers cried in pain but after a couple of seconds there was nothing but silence. A massive fireball exploded in the air and the rangers were hurled through the air.
When the smoke cleared, Chaos could see all ten rangers lying on the sand. All of them had demorphed and none of them moved a muscle. Slowly he began to laugh but soon this turned in a full maniacal laugh as he looked down at the defeated rangers. Surely nothing could stand between him and claiming global superiority over the entire planet.
