'Owl Love to Be Your Valentine' -Chapter 47
~A Teen Wolf fan-fiction collaboration between Miss E Charlotte and Sage Londyn~
Avery sat in the front row of the bleachers watching the lacrosse game as she hugged her black zip-up sweatshirt around her, and shivered.
Normally she attended the games with Teagan but, that night Avery had told Teagan how to get to the underground space that Derek had been staying in and Isaac had been hiding out in so she could see Isaac.
She looked to where Stiles was sitting on the bench and smiled to herself.
If someone had told her a year ago, or even at the start of the school year that she and Stiles would be close, she'd never have believed it.
But he was already becoming one of her closest friends and she'd leaned on him the most through her break-up with Derek.
Teagan of course had been there for her too every step of the way, but Avery didn't want to lean on her too much because she was having such a hard time dealing with all of her Isaac problems.
Stiles and Avery had spent time together every single day and were getting even closer than before.
Feeling her phone vibrating in her pocket she saw Teagan was calling her.
Quickly leaving the stands she jogged out to the parking lot and answered it.
"What happened to surprising your lover boy?" Avery asked with a smile.
"It's hard to surprise someone when I can't find them, I think you gave me the wrong directions." Teagan said with a frustrated sigh as she pulled into an empty parking lot so she could talk.
"Where are you now?" Avery asked her.
"Just pulled into the parking lot of that bakery they closed like 5 years ago." Teagan explained.
"The one on East 12th street?" Avery wondered.
"Mhmm." Teagan hummed.
"You're less than a block away." Avery said as she gave her directions on how to get there.
"Got it, thanks again." Teagan thanked her friend.
"You've checked your mirrors the whole time, right? You're positive no one has followed you?" Avery asked concerned.
"I'm sure, no one followed me." Teagan assured her.
"Because if someone did follow you, you'd lead them straight back to De…" Her voice trailed off, and she quickly recovered, "You'd lead them right to Isaac."
Teagan frowned as she looked down to her steering wheel.
"You fell in love with him, those feelings don't just leave because you broke up. It's okay to still care about him. I know you're worried someone would follow me and hurt Derek. But I promise you I've kept an eye on my surroundings and mirrors all night." She assured her.
"Okay… just be careful, T." Avery said as she ended the call.
~()~
Teagan cautiously walked down the stairs and used the light from her cellphone to glance around the dark room as she looked for Isaac. She walked further into the room starting to regret her decision to come down here alone.
It's not that she didn't want to see Isaac; she did, but with a new creature roaming around that no one, not even Derek or the Argents, knew what it was, maybe walking into a dark place alone wasn't her smartest idea.
"I-Issac?" Teagan called out quietly, as she moved her phone around trying to look into every nook and cranny hoping something scary wasn't about to jump out at her.
After not seeing Isaac in front of her, she began to turn back around, using her phone to light the way then gasped in surprise when she saw him standing behind her, the cellphone light reflecting on his yellow eyes, making them glow.
Isaac looked at her in confusion, wondering why she was there. Then when he heard her heart begin to race from fear, he glanced down, hating himself for scaring her again.
"Isaac." She breathed out, happy that she finally found him.
"Why are you here?" Isaac asked with his head still down.
Teagan took a deep breath as she took a small step toward him then said, "You told me one time that you would never run from me, so I'm here to tell you the same."
Isaac lifted his head to look at her in surprise. He thought for sure between scaring her out of his house that time and almost attacking her at the station that she would never want to see him again.
"I don't care if you're a werewolf, vampire or a freaking zombie, I'm not going anywhere." Teagan added.
Isaac softly chuckled then said, "I'm pretty sure those last two don't exist."
"Yeah well a few weeks ago I would have said werewolves don't exist either but we both know that isn't true now." Teagan said back, then continued, "The point is I don't care what you are cause to me you're still Isaac. The boy who gives me the flutters and who made my whole world come alive with one kiss."
"Teagan, stop talking." Isaac said, as he took a few steps toward her.
Thinking he was trying to chase her away again she took a small step back with a big gulp then she raised her head high and stood her ground as she said, "No, and there is nothing you can say or do that is going to make me run away from you."
"I'm not trying to make you run." Isaac said with a smirk on his face, as he came to a stop in front of her.
"T-then what are you doing?" Teagan asked nervously.
Isaac leaned down a little towards her then said quietly, "I'm going to kiss you, but it's kind of hard to do when you're moving your lips."
"Oh." Teagan said with a chuckle, her cheeks turning pink.
She opened her mouth to say something else but before she could utter a word, Isaac pressed his lips against hers for a gentle kiss that quickly began to heat up.
Quietly she moaned as she tangled her fingers in his hair, pulling him closer to her as he snaked an arm around her waist and pulled her body closer to his with a grunt.
The two continued to kiss a few more minutes until he pulled back a little to give them a chance to breath. He stared at her parted lips as she took several deep breaths.
He knew he should let her breath, but he needed to kiss her again. He lowered his head to capture her lips again for a few more minutes then begin to move his lips across her jawline and then down the side of her neck. He lightly kissed the side of her neck a few times then begin to grin against her skin.
"What?" Teagan breathed out when she felt him smiling.
Isaac raised his head to look at her then leaned down for a quick kiss before resting his forehead against hers and saying softly, "I love hearing your heart speed up every time my lips touches a part of you. It's the best sound in the world."
Teagan pulled back a little to look at him then said, "It is so unfair that you get to hear my heart but I can't hear yours. You can hear exactly how I feel about you but I can't."
Isaac reached forward to grab one of her hands then laid it over his heart as he said, "You might not be able to hear it, but you can feel it."
He kept his eyes on her as he leaned forward then closed them right before his lips met hers for another kiss. After a sweet and gentle kiss, he pulled back a little then whispered, "You feel it?"
"I do." Teagan whispered back.
Isaac smiled as he kissed her again then pulled back and said,"Now you know how I feel, although you should have known that to begin with."
He pushed a lock hair behind her ear then rested his hand on her cheek as he continued, "I've been crazy about you since fifth grade."
"That long huh?" Teagan asked with a smile. After he nodded his head, she added, "Do you remember why you liked me back then?"
"I remember the moment I started liking you." Isaac said, smiling back.
"And what moment was that? The moment I started filling in a bra?" Teagan joked, remembering Jackson had told her that one time. That he begin to notice her the day her body begin to change.
Isaac chuckled as he shook his head then said, "No. It was the day I saw your heart and saw the type of person you really are."
When she shot him a confused look he added, "It was Valentine's day and that was the first year the teachers didn't make us give everyone a valentine card, but just about everyone still gave you one and I had none. But then you looked over at me, picked up one of your cards and walked over to me. You handed me the card then said..."
"Everyone deserves to have a valentine." She said with a smile, interrupting him as she began to remember that day.
Isaac nodded his head then finished what she had told him back then,"...'and this year I'm going to be yours'."
"I remember that now. That feels like so long ago, I can't believe you remember that." She said smiling.
"Are you kidding? That was one of the greatest days of my life. I even still have the card you gave me." Isaac said smiling back.
"No you don't." Teagan said with a laugh, she couldn't believe he would keep it.
"Yeah I do. Plus even if I didn't have it, I remember it." Isaac said, then added, "There was an owl on it and it said 'owl love to be your valentine'."
Teagan threw her head back and laughed then said, "That's almost as lame as you telling me fish are so smart cause they live in schools."
Isaac laughed as he remembered back to the first day of school when she accidentally walked into the men's restroom while having a panic attack. He told her a lame joke to get her mind off of the attack and helped her to breathe again.
"That was not my finest moment but I didn't know what else to say and I just wanted to help you. I know it was stupid." Isaac pointed out.
Teagan shook her head as she placed her hands on either side of his face then said,"It wasn't stupid and it was a great moment cause it was the moment I began to like you."
Isaac smiled at her words as he leaned forward to softly kiss her lips and pull her toward him as the two continued to kiss for several hours.

Heading back to her seat Avery noticed Stiles was gone, looking over her shoulder she saw Allison nodding to her, letting her know she'd already passed her grandfather's keys off.
They had worked out a plan to get into his office and find the bestiary hoping it would have something to tell them about what kind of new monster they were dealing with.
Making sure no one followed her Avery headed towards the building, taking the first entrance she came to.
Once inside she decided the quickest way would be to cut through the pool area.
She walked with her head down looking at her phone as she texted Stiles to let him know she was on her way.
Tucking her phone back in her pocket she looked up, barely having time to stop before she ran into Derek.
Taking a few steps backwards she looked at him, it was really the first time she had seen him since the day she'd given him his clothes back, weeks ago.
Scott had told her how he'd made Erica and Isaac attack him, but when Scott beat them Derek had injured Scott pretty badly.
She'd also found out that he'd turned Boyd and now had a full pack.
Her eyes went to the basketball in his hands.
"What are you doing in here? Haven't you heard who our new principal is?" She asked him.
His eyes searched her face, he missed having her around, missed being with her. But he was the alpha now complete with his own pack and he wasn't going to show weakness and admit it to her.
"Gerard Argent, yeah… I know." He stated, listening to her heart beat and trying to figure out what she was thinking.
Her heart sped up a little as she wondered if he might have come there to see her.
"Then what are you doing here?" She asked him.
To begin with, it had been terrible being apart from him and she still missed him a lot more than she'd like to admit. But the more time that passed and the more time she spent around Stiles the easier things had gotten for her.
He took a few steps closer to her and was getting ready to ask her what she knew about the new monster, but he heard her heart start to race.
For a minute he thought it was his presence, but then he realized her heart was racing from fear.
He opened his mouth to tell her he wasn't going to hurt her, but she glared at him with narrowed eyes.
"What are you doing to him?" She demanded to know as she saw Erica dragging Stiles into the room by his ear.
Derek looked over his shoulder at them and back to Avery as it slowly sunk in that at the moment over everything else, she was more worried about Stiles' safety.
Pushing past him she walked up to Stiles and said, "Hey, are you okay?"
Derek sighed heavily as he heard Stiles' heart pick up speed as his eyes locked with hers, that didn't bother him too much. He was used to having to listen to that when Stiles was around Avery.
But what bothered him was when Avery reached forward and turned Stiles' head to the side to look at his red ear, her heart also sped up when their flesh touched.
"I'm fine… but I didn't find it." He told her.
As Avery turned and faced Derek and Erica, she saw the angry look Derek was giving Stiles.
"Stiles…" Derek greeted his voice gruff.
"Derek." Stiles said back, his voice a little high.
"What did you see at the mechanic's garage?" Derek asked him.
"Uh, several alarming EPA violations that I'm seriously considering reporting…" He said.
They watched as Derek used one of his claws to puncher the basketball and squeeze the air out, trying to intimidate Stiles into telling him everything he'd witnessed.
"Holy god…" Stiles breathed out.
Rolling her eyes Avery said, "Don't worry, he's not going to hurt you."
"Is that so?" Derek asked her a slightly amused look on his face at her.
"Mhmm, and honestly neither one of you should even be here. Gerard has spies around the school, you know." Avery stated as she looked between Derek and Erica.
Derek shrugged like the idea didn't bother him.
"He's questioned me more than a few times about you, about where you're hiding and if I know who your next targets are for your pack. If he saw me leave the game and come in here, he might have someone follow me." She admitted.
Derek's jaw tensed in anger at her words, and the steady sound of her heart beat was proof she was telling the truth. The Argent family had hurt her enough already.
"He's questioned you?" Derek asked, taking a step forward.
"Don't worry she's kept your secrets." Stiles said to him.
Derek glanced between them as he squeezed the last of the air out of the ball and threw it at Stiles' feet as he said, "Let's try that again, what did you see at the garage?"
Sighing Stiles said, "Alright… the thing was pretty slick looking, skin was dark. Kind of patterned. Actually I think I saw scales."
"Wait it had scales… and there was a clear fluid on the door knob that paralyzed you?" Avery asked, her eyes widening like she was starting to remember something.
"Yeah, eyes are yellowish and slitted. It has a lot of teeth and a tail too. Are we good?" Stiles asked them.
Avery saw them starting to look up to the balcony above them.
"What have you seen it? You have this look on your face like you know exactly what I'm talking about." He said looking between the werewolves.
Avery took a few steps forward and looked up to see the monster.
Hearing a loud hiss, Stiles looked up to.
"Whoa…" He fearfully breathed out.
The monster jumped down and sent Erica flying into the far wall, where she then lay motionless on the floor.
Stepping between the monster and Stiles and Avery, Derek looked at her and yelled, "Run!"
As they started to turn the monster ran past Derek and swiped a nail across the back of his neck.
Confused Derek spun around and looked for the monster.
"Oh my god…" Avery breathed out as she saw the back of his neck.
Derek could hear her heart starting to race behind him.
"Derek, your neck." Stiles said.
Reaching back he felt an open spot on his neck and then his body went paralyzed.
Stiles and Avery both rushed forward and caught him before he hit the ground.
"We have to get him out of here." Avery pleaded as she looked at stiles.
With an arm around each of them, Derek continued to lose more feeling and function in his body as they tried to make a run for it.
"Where is it? Do you see it?" Derek asked them.
"No, just hurry." Stiles yelled at him.
"Call Scott." Derek ordered.
With his other arm Stiles pulled his phone from his pocket and started to dial his friends number but he dropped his phone and when he leaned down to get it, Derek fell past him into the pool.
Stiles looked down to the phone on the ground and then to Avery as she watched Derek fall into the water.
Without even a second of hesitation she jumped into the water after him.
Looking around to see where the monster was, Stiles then jumped in the pool after her and Derek, and helped her pull Derek up from the bottom of the pool.
"Do you see it?" Stiles asked as he looked around, and pulled Derek's arm over his shoulder to keep him up.
They continued to hear the monster hissing and screeching; the sounds echoed throughout the pool room.
It was well over an hour later, when Avery said "How long until the stuff wears off?" she sputtered in the water that splashed against her face.
"It took hours for me and it was just on my skin, not in my blood stream." Stiles admitted, his voice strained from trying to keep Derek afloat.
They had figured out that the monster wouldn't come into the water, but the more they had to keep themselves and Derek afloat the weaker their muscles got.
"This is insane, we can't keep doing this." Avery breathed out as she kicked her legs to keep her head above water.
"You got a better idea?" Derek asked.
"I think I might…" she said.
"You've got him right?" She asked looking to Stiles as she slid out from under Derek's other arm.
"Maybe, why?" Stiles asked her.
"Just don't let him drown." She called as she swam towards the edge of the pool.
"What are you doing?" Derek asked as he watched her get closer to the edge of the pool.
When she didn't respond Derek, looked over to Stiles, "What the hell is she doing?" he asked.
"I don't know." Stiles said as he watched her.
"I need to get out of the pool." She admitted looking around to make sure the monster wasn't near them at the moment.
"No!" Stiles and Derek both yelled.
"Both of you shut up and trust me." She snapped.
Stiles watched as Avery looked around again before swimming to the very edge of the pool and struggling to pull her tired body out of the water.
"Avery!" Stiles yelled as she was now completely out of the water and exposed to the monster. He kicked his legs franticly trying to keep himself and Derek above water.
"Stop her!" Derek said gruffly.
Stiles looked around trying to come up with a plan.
"Avery! Look out!" Derek yelled as he saw the monster heading for her.
She ran to the wall and used all of her strength to punch and break the large mirror.
Scott raced into the pool room and pulled Derek and Stiles from the water.
She didn't even feel her skin bust open, or the glass cut her knuckles as she looked down to the broken glass shards raining onto the tile floor.
Picking up the biggest piece of glass she of could find and turning around facing the reptilian monster as she held the glass and showed the monster it's reflection.
It stopped hissing and cocked it's head to side as it looked at the reflective surface, before it turned and raced out of the room.
Derek slowly rose up from where he'd landed when Scott threw him as the paralysis slowly began to wear off.
He watched as Avery's breathing was labored from fear and she dropped the glass to the floor.
Standing up from where he was, Stiles raced over to her.
"Hey, hey. Are you okay?" He asked as he grabbed onto her cheeks and made her face him.
"I…" she said and then shrugged; she didn't know how to feel at that point.
Letting go of her face, he grabbed her injured hand and looked at the bloody, shredded skin.
Stepping forward he wrapped his arms around her, holding her shaking body against him as she shivered and fought for her breath.
~()~
Everyone met back up outside of the school and Scott copied the contents of Gerard's flash drive to his computer with the bestiary.
Avery leaned against Scott's mom's car and shivered in the cool night air as Scott and Stiles looked at the laptop they had rested on the hood of the car.
"Is that even a language?" Stiles asked.
"How are we supposed to figure this thing out? How are we even supposed to know what it is?" Scott mumbled frustrated.
"It's a Kanima." Avery said quietly as she shivered again.
"A what?" Scott asked her.
"A Kanima." Derek agreed as he walked up to them.
"But how did you know that?" He asked looking to Avery.
"You knew this the whole time?" Stiles asked looking at Derek.
"No, not until the stupid stunt she pulled." Derek said, glancing over to Avery. He'd hated watching her put herself in danger and there was nothing he could do at the time, he'd been paralyzed.
"Speaking of, what even happened? Was it afraid you were going to cut it with the glass?" Stiles asked her.
"She used the mirror to confuse it with its reflection." Derek filled them in, keeping his gaze heavy on Avery.
"How the hell do either of you know anything about this?" Scott asked them.
"All I know are stories." Derek admitted.
"I've always liked dark and creepy things, when I was a kid my mom got me this book over monsters and when you talked about what you saw at the car garage, it jogged my memory." She admitted, her eyes meeting Stiles' for a few moments before she glanced away.
"You remembered it from something you read as a little kid?" Scott asked her surprised.
"I only remember bits and pieces but I always kind of felt like I could relate to it's story, the Kanima has no identity… it's not sure who it is. That's why the reflection confused it." She explained.
"You jumped out of the safety of the water on a hunch you might know how to throw it off?" Stiles asked her.
"It was worth a shot." She said nodding.
Scott tried to tell everyone they needed to work together, but Derek refused and said if he found out who the Kanima was; he'd kill it.
