Chapter 50 – Discharged
Dino Mansion – 1 month later
A pile of boxes and suitcase stood at the bottom of the stairs of the Dino Mansion. With the Legion of Deboss gone, there was no need for the majority of the team to stay under one roof any more. The last month had been crazy for the rangers, people stopped them in the streets to personally thank them for saving the town. Unfortunately there were a small group of critics that weren't so pleasant towards the team but they were largely drowned out by the majority.
The local and national presses had been prevented from reporting the identities of the Dino Charge team, apparently by order of the Governor of California. Details still occasionally appeared online but they soon disappeared. No one was really how it happened, although Kiera was spending a lot of time carrying her laptop around which perhaps gave them their answer.
The team helped to repair the damage caused by the Deboss, a task made easier using some of the powers of the Energems. The trench and crater that had been caused during the crash of the Ice Palace had been turned into a lake that was dedicated to the rangers. Even the beach was looking much cleaner than it was a month ago.
Unfortunately there was also the ugly side to a war and that was the funerals and memorial services for the fallen. In total 33 people had been killed during the final battle, most of them in the skyscraper incident but six high school students had also lost their lives. There had been a few angry scenes during the memorial service at the school but it was nothing the Griffin brothers couldn't handle. Despite the support of the majority of the faculty and student body, Riley's parents decided the best thing to do would be to withdraw their son from the school. With only a year and a half to go, he could complete this during his own time through online classes. The green ranger wasn't too disappointed, even without a High School diploma, being a former ranger would open up plenty of doors for him.
"So I guess this is it", Jason said to the gathered rangers, "I don't want to admit this but I'm going to miss having everyone around".
"I'm not", Kiera snorted.
"You're not even going to be here for the next few months", Ivan replied. It was true, with the Deboss gone she could fulfil her wish and visit her parents on Aquitar. The Plesio Zord was all loaded up and ready to go. As he promised, Chase would also be accompanying her for the trip.
"I still can't believe Chase is being allowed to visit another planet", Koda shook his head, "try not to start an intergalactic incident", he added in the direction of the black ranger.
"Hey I've changed dude", Chase smiled and placed his arm around Kiera, "beside I don't want to ruin this for Kiera".
"Please I'm going to be sick", Riley snorted.
"Maybe I should tell Marissa about the time I walked in on you-", Chase began.
"Alright you can stop right there", Riley held his hands up.
"Now the question is what are you two going to do when you come back", Jason said and grabbed his cell phone, "I might just have an opportunity for you".
A video began to play of a man with Asian features with black hair. On his head was a red beret, "Hello Chase, Kiera", he began, "I'm Eric Meyers of the Silver Guardians. Jason told me that you two might be looking for work in a few months. We've got a couple of position open at the Silver Guardians. If you're interested when you return from your trip, give me a call".
"The Silver Guardians", Chase began, "those guys are amazing, they only take the best of the best".
"Well I told Wes and Eric that two former rangers were looking for work", Jason replied, "I didn't need to say anymore than that".
"Thanks Uncle Jason", Kiera said and hugged her adopted father. Chase shrugged as if to say 'what the hell' and hugged the original red ranger as well.
"Alright that's enough of that", Jason pushed them both away, "Koda are you all set to get to work on that new project".
The blue ranger nodded, "Sure am, some parts of the Rainbow Line open in a few months. It'll be a rush but the Californian section should be ready to go by this time next year".
"Bet you're going to miss having Koda work for you Chloe?" Matt asked.
"Not really", Chloe shrugged, "no offence brother but this is much more suitable for someone with your skills". She paused for a moment, "But with Chase, Koda and Ivan leaving I do need to find some more employees". From across the room Tyler and Shelby coughed loudly, "You two want to work for me?"
"Well we need to pay the rent for our new apartment somehow", Tyler shrugged, "and we've proven ourselves pretty useful in the past". The red and pink rangers were staying in the city but had decided to get a place of their own. Shelby had been able to fix her relationship with her Dad, she hadn't fully forgiven him but they were keeping their conversation civil. He had offered to pay for somewhere for them to live but the pink ranger declined, preferring to stand on her own two feet. For Tyler this would be a whole new experience, staying in one place for more than a year. It was probably the scariest thing he had ever done.
"Alright you're hired", Chloe sighed, "I suppose I need to go and buy a red and pink shirt for you to wear".
"You're the best Chloe", Shelby smiled, "and no more going home smelling like grease and burgers".
"I dunno, I liked the way you smelt", Tyler smiled.
In response Shelby just raised an eyebrow at him, "There's something seriously wrong with you".
"I'm hurt Shel", Tyler touched his heart and smiled at his girlfriend. "So Dad, where's your next big adventure".
"South America", Bastian replied, "I'm going in search of a lost Incan tribe, all expenses paid for by my new boss Mr Hartford".
"Well just don't get stumbling across anymore Dino Spirits", Tyler laughed, "I've had all I can take for the time being".
"Yeah I'm more than happy to be staying on the farm for a while", Matt added. With the investment from Valley Repairs, business was booming for the Griffins. They could afford to hire dedicated staff, giving Matt and Riley's parents a chance to finally take a break.
"What about you Riley, happy with the farm life", Kiera asked.
"For the time being", Riley began, "I'm going to be studying for my High School diploma but hopefully I can finish that within a year".
"Perhaps you could look into competing properly in fencing", his brother suggested, "it's too late for the Olympics later this year but I'm sure you'll be fighting for gold in 2020".
"I might just do that", the green ranger smiled. He then turned to Ivan and Jodella, "I guess that just leaves you two".
"Oh we're going on a sightseeing tour of the world", Ivan smiled, "there's so much we both want to see, the Pyramids, Sydney Opera House, Mount Rushmore, maybe visit the homeland at some point".
"Yeah it's going to be super exciting", Jodella grasped the gold rangers arm, practically jumping up and down on the spot.
"That isn't quite everyone though", Ivan began and turned to Jason and Chloe, "what about the two of you?"
Jason sighed, "Well I think I want to live the quiet life", he began, "help Chloe with her business and with Kristy, you know the perfect househusband".
Chase snorted, "Sounds boring, especially for the original red ranger".
"I've been fighting evil off and on for over twenty years", Jason shrugged. "I'm sure there's something out there that will require the attention of the original red ranger but until that day, I'm happy where I am".
"I guess there's only one thing for it then", Tyler stepped forward and thrust his arm outwards. One by one the other ranger's mirrored the gesture, even Jason and Jodella, "Dino Charge", they cried in unison. Evil had been vanquished but they would always be alert to the call to action. Until then, they were going to enjoy their retirement from the rangering business, they had certainly earned it.
THE END
A/N – So that's it, the end of my Dino Charge story. I do have planned for a sequel that will cover some of the event of "Gaburincho of Music" and "100 years later". That'll probably be up in a few months time. Some of you might've picked up on some hints about this leading into a Toqger story. I haven't got any plans for that yet but if I change my mind in the future then the seeds have been sown...so to speak.
Thank you to everyone who's read and reviewed this story. Currently it stands as my most read story which I greatly appreciated. As you might have heard me mention I have an ongoing Harry Potter cross over story so feel free to check that out. Also anyone who followed my Chronicles of Power series there's good news: The first part of the follow up series (Project Hexagon) will be uploaded tomorrow. It's called Only The Good Die Young and its set during Lost Galaxy so please give that a read.
