Keychain -Chapter 53

~A Teen Wolf fan-fiction collaboration between Miss E Charlotte and Sage Londyn~

After realizing Derek had tricked them he looked between the two teenagers.

Avery's eyes locked with his again before he and Boyd turned and left.

"We gotta go." Scott said as he turned and they both raced back towards the school.

As they ran down the hallway past the coach's office he yelled, "Stop!"

They both came to a stop, Avery grabbed onto Scott's arm to keep from sliding and falling in the heels she'd been running in.

"McCall get over here!" Coach Finstock yelled.

"You know I'm gonna require an explanation for this…" He said as he showed Scott some damaged lacrosse gear.

"Does this concern me?" Avery questioned.

He looked at her, "No… why?"

"Ah, great well. I'm a little busy so…" She started to say as she grabbed onto the coaches shoulder to steady herself as she took her high heels off.

The coach looked at her confused as she took her shoes off.

"I need to get going." She said as she let go of him and took her keys from her purse and handed them to Scott.

"I'll ride with Teagan, just get to your house as soon as you can. But Scott, if you put even one scratch on my car… I will kill you." She said.

He nodded and looked at the car keys in his hand in surprise.

"Dukate, you can't threaten another student in front of me." Coach Finstock said looking at her and then back to Scott wondering why they were both acting so weird.

"See you later." She said as she started to turn and leave.

"Dukate! No running in the halls!" Coach Finstock yelled after her but she didn't slow down as she raced out of the school with her high heels in her hand.

"Avery?" Teagan said surprised as she saw her best friend sprinting for her.

"Oh… ouch, ouch, ouch… ow." Avery complained as she ran barefoot on the pavement and her feet got stabbed by tiny rocks.

"Get in your car." Avery said as she got in the passenger seat.

"Weren't we going to take your car?" Teagan asked as she sped out of the parking lot.

"Can't, I gave Scott my keys." Avery admitted as she put her shoes back on.

Teagan's eyes bugged out, "You… you don't even let your dad drive your car. I'm the only person you've ever let drive it."

"Derek…" Her voice trailed off.

"What?" Teagan asked.

"I let Derek drive my car too." Avery said quietly and then shook her head.

"Take it the talk didn't go well." Teagan said softly.

"Not really, Derek won't listen… I know he's just afraid that things are going to get even more out of hand." Avery defended him.

Teagan gripped the steering wheel tight as she said, "He wants to kill Lydia…Lydia, we've known her our entire lives."

"Which is why I'm in this car with you and I freaking gave McCall the keys to my baby." Avery argued.

"I'm still in shock about the last part…" Teagan admitted.

"Desperate times, T." Avery stated as she checked her phone.

"I guess, Jackson helped them get Lydia out of the school and over to Scott's house." Avery said, as she read her text from Stiles.

"Distracting Isaac worked for a little while, until Erica helped him figured out what I was doing. He told me to leave the situation alone, he's afraid I'll get hurt." Teagan admitted.

"He wants to kill Lydia, we've known her our whole lives!" Avery reminded her of her own words when she had defended Derek.

"Which is why I'm going 30 over the speed limit." Teagan said glancing over at her.

Many minutes later, Teagan slammed on the brakes in front of Scott's house then quickly jumped out of the car to run to the front door with Avery running along behind her.

Avery reached out to open the door and sighed when she realized it was locked, she had a feeling that was Stiles' doing.

"Hey, it's us." Teagan yelled out, as she knocked on the door.

"Who's us?" They heard Stiles' muffled voice ask back.

"Stiles I swear if you don't open this door right now.." Avery threatened, as she kicked the door.

"Oh it's Avery." They heard Stiles say, followed by the sound of a chair being moved and locks being unlocked.

Teagan glanced over at Avery as she chuckled and asked,"did he actually block the door with a chair?"

"It's Stiles. Of course he did." Avery said with a laugh of her own.

As soon as Stiles opened the door he reached out to grab both girl's arms and pulled them inside before quickly shutting the door back and locking it up. He put the chair back against the door and saw both girls watching him.

"You can never be to careful." Stiles pointed out.

"Yeah cause a chair is going to stop Derek." Avery said sarcastically.

"Of course not, I knew that." Stiles said, then added,"Scott is going to stop Derek, the chair is going to slow him down."

"Right, great plan Stiles." Avery teased him.

"Speaking of, where is Scott?" Stiles asked, as he looked out the window by the side of the door, then he looked at Avery as he asked,"and where is your car?"

"Scott got held up by Coach Finstock so I gave him my keys and we took T's car." Avery explained.

"You actually let someone drive your car? When I asked to drive it the other day you told me no one drives it." Stiles complained.

"I don't let anyone drive it. Except for Scott this one time." Avery argued, then added quietly,"and Derek a few times."

Stiles mouth dropped open in surprise, but he was even more shocked when Teagan slowly raised her hand and added,"and me."

"But-But that's completely unfair. I mean yeah I understand Teagan cause she's your best friend and even Derek cause he was your boyfriend at one time, but Scott? You let Scott drive it before me, your boyfriend now." Stiles said without thinking.

Now it was Teagan's turn to be shocked as she looked in between Stiles and Avery to see what would happen next. She knew they had not had the 'boyfriend/girlfriend' talk yet since they had only had one date.

"I-I don't mean 'boyfriend' boyfriend, obviously cause we only just got together. I mean, as a boy who is your friend who wants to drive your car, I think I should." Stiles rambled on, as he tried to explain.

He watched Avery closely, trying to judge her reaction and hoped he didn't mess up any progress he had made. He breathed a sigh of relief as she laughed, although he still wasn't sure what that meant. Did she want him to be a boyfriend or just casually date and see what happens? He really wanted to know, but he also knew now was not the time for the talk.

"So where's Lydia?" Teagan spoke up to change the subject when she didn't see the red-head, Allison or Jackson.

"She's in the kitchen with Jackson and Allison. Getting snacks before we start 'studying'." Stiles explained. They had told Lydia they were all meeting at Scott's house to study for an upcoming test.

"So I take it trying to talk Derek out of killing Lydia or stopping Isaac and Erica didn't work huh?" Stiles asked, as he looked at the two girls but wasn't surprised when they both shook their heads.

"Are you ok?" Stiles asked, as he looked at Avery, worried if Derek had said or did anything to hurt her. Then he remembered what Teagan told him, not to be to overprotective of Avery, that if he coddled her too much it would get on her nerves.

He quickly looked over at Teagan and added,"I mean both of you? Are you both ok?"

"Yeah we're good." Teagan said with a smile, knowing he remembered what she said.

"Yep, we're good." Avery repeated, as she hugged up to Stiles.

"So what are we going to do until Scott gets here?" Teagan asked.

"Keep Lydia here." Stiles answered with a shrug.

"Until when? We can't keep her locked up here forever." Avery pointed out, as Teagan nodded her head in agreement.

"I don't know," Stiles said with a sigh, as he ran a hand over his short hair, then added,"until we can somehow prove to Derek that it's not Lydia."

"And once again, we can't keep her here forever." Avery said again, then added,"Derek's never going to listen to us."

"Maybe we can at least hold him off for now and just keep Lydia distracted so she doesn't figure out anything." Teagan said with a hopeful expression.

"How?" Stiles asked.

But before anyone could answer, they heard Allison, Lydia and Jackson leaving the kitchen and walking toward them. Lydia looked at the small group before her then folded her arms across her chest with an annoyed sigh. She thought they were suppose to study, but so far there had been no studying done and Scott wasn't even there.

"When is Scott getting here?" Lydia asked, then before anyone could answer she added,"this is ridiculous. How are you going to host a study group when you are not even here to host it."

"Scott's just running a little late..." Stiles said, as he held two of his fingers close together to get the point across, then added,"but he will be here soon and we can get to all the studying fun."

"Yay!" Teagan and Avery cheered, trying to help sell his explanation.

"Whatever." Lydia mumbled, as she rolled her eyes.

'I'm sure he'll be here soon." Allison said, hoping she was right. Then she glanced out the small window by the door and gasp when she saw Derek and his wolf pack right outside.

"What now?" Lydia asked, as she tilted her head with a bored expression.

"N-nothing. I thought I saw a bug, a big hairy bug." Allison said, as she shot a look at Stiles, Avery and Teagan.

Stiles quickly turned around, almost tripping on his own feet, to look at the window as he mumbled out,"oh crap."

"You know while we are waiting, Teagan actually wanted to talk to you about something." Avery said to Lydia, causing Teagan to shot her a look as she shook her head no.

Avery nodded her head 'yes' then nodded toward the stairs, telling Teagan to take Lydia upstairs while they hold off Derek and his crew. After the two girls silently came up with a plan, Teagan finally sighed then said,"yeah I wanted to talk to Lydia. Actually me and Jackson need to talk to you."

"We do?" Jackson asked confused.

"Yep we do. It's very important." Teagan said, as she shot him a look. If she was going to be stuck distracting Lydia she wasn't going to do it alone.

"Yeah, we do." Jackson said understanding what she was doing. He looked over at Lydia as he nodded toward the stairs and said,"follow us."

After going upstairs, Teagan walked over to one of the closed doors and pushed it open a crack to peek inside. She pushed the door all the way open when she realized it was Scott's bedroom and walked inside with Lydia and Jackson following along behind them.

The three looked at each other, Lydia wondering what they wanted while the other two tried to think of something to say to keep her distracted. Teagan folded her arms as she glanced over at Scott's window, watching the sun slowly fade and wondering how much more time they had before one of the werewolves outside busted in.

"So what did you two have to talk about that was so important?" Lydia asked, as she looked at both of them.

"Uh.. well..." Jackson stuttered out, as he tried to think of something.

"We uh... we wanted to talk about..." Teagan begin to say, finishing the sentence for him when he couldn't think of anything,"we wanted to see how you were doing?"

"What?" Lydia asked confused.

Teagan opened her mouth and said the first thing she could think of,"yeah, you know after being attacked at the dance and..."

"And after I broke up with you for Teagan." Jackson added,"we just want to make sure you are ok and there are no hard feelings you know?"

"Are you freaking kidding me?" Lydia asked, as she looked at them.

"Do you honestly think I care that you dumped me? I mean, sure, I cared for you for like a minute but I am totally over you now." Lydia said, as she looked over at Jackson. Then she looked over at Teagan as she added,"and you... you, me and Avery always said we would not let any guy come between us but I guess that promise didn't mean anything."

"Says the girl who dated my ex as soon as I left town." Teagan said back sarcastically.

"True, but at least I didn't go after him while you two were together." Lydia pointed out, as she raised her eyebrows at them. Letting them know she knew about the couple of times they kissed behind her back.

Lydia looked at their surprise and guilty faces then chuckled as she said,"I'm not stupid. I knew it was only a matter of time before you two were joined at the lips again."

"Lydia, I swear, I never meant for any of this to happen. You are one of my oldest and closest friends and I never wanted to hurt you." Teagan said sincerely, then added,"when I got back I never planned to break you two up, I had planned to stay away and let you two be happy but it just kind of happened and I'm so sorry."

"Which is funny since you two are not even together anymore, so why do you two even care what I think now?" Lydia asked them.

"Cause we're all friends here and we.." Jackson being to say to Lydia, as he pointed to himself and Teagan before continuing,"would like to remain friends with you."

Lydia folded her arms as she gave them a hard stare, neither one knew what she was thinking or feeling, then finally she rolled her eyes and said,"it's fine. Everything is good between all of us. No hard feelings."

"That's great. Seriously Lydia, I want us to be close again. I miss you." Teagan said sincerely, as she stepped forward to hug the red-head.

Lydia hugged her back, then after she stepped back, she added,"besides like I said, I'm not stupid. I always knew Jackson wasn't over you, no matter how many times he tried to say he was."

"And I can tell by the look on your face that you're wondering how I could possibly know that, am I right?" Lydia asked Jackson. Before he could answer she reached into her purse and pulled out a silver-plated heart keychain, that had Jackson and Teagan's initials engraved on it. It was something she had given to him years ago on their first anniversary. It was her way of giving him her 'heart' and he carried it with him everyday until the day she left, then he took if off of his key ring and hid it, although apparently not well since Lydia found it.

"The first time I noticed him not using this anymore I asked about it and do you remember what you told me?" Lydia asked him.

Jackson took a deep breath and slowly released it before saying,"I told you I threw it away. That she moved on and I was moving on too."

Lydia nodded her head then said,"and I was surprised to hear that cause I knew how much you two loved each other, but you reassured me that it was completely over. That you were over her and you didn't care if she ever came back. I asked you if you were sure and that is when you kissed me to show me how sure you were."

Teagan looked down at the floor, even if she and Jackson were broken up now and she was happy with Isaac, it still kind of hurt to hear the details of him hooking up with her best friend. Jackson glanced over at her and saw the sad look on her face. He didn't know what kind of point Lydia was trying to make, but he wished she would hurry and make it. He hated to see Teagan so upset.

"So I lied, big deal. What's your point?" Jackson asked.

"That is the point. You lied and I never should have believed you." Lydia said, then added,"that was my mistake but I will never make it again cause I know the truth now."

"Truth about what?" Jackson asked, feeling annoyed.

"That no matter what you two say you'll never be over each other. You'll break up and make up over and over again. You two will always love each other and anyone else is just a footnote in your grand love story, but trust me, I will not be a part of that story anymore." Lydia said. She held out the keychain toward Teagan, wanting her to take it, as she added,"here, you should have this and give it to him the next time you two get back together."

"And as for me, I am going to go call one of the many boys I have been seeing cause while you two have had your whole 'will they/won't they' drama, I've been out having fun." Lydia said, as she flashed them a smile before turning around and walking out of the room, leaving them alone.

Stiles pulled back the curtain as he and Avery glanced out to see Derek standing across the street with his pack still watching the house.

"Oh jeez…" Stiles muttered as he nervously rubbed a hand over his head.

"Maybe we should call the cops, report them for suspicious behavior or something?" Avery quietly offered a suggestion.

"I don't want to get the cops involved, especially because my dad's on duty right now." Stiles answered.

She nodded in understanding.

They looked over at Allison who had her phone out.

"What are you doing?" stiles asked, worried.

"I think…I think I have to call my dad." Allison admitted.

"You can't!" Avery said.

"Avery, they aren't here to spy on us, or even to scare us. They are here to kill Lydia." Allison reminded her.

Avery shook her head and sighed.

"What are we supposed to do?" Allison asked, sounding a little frantic.

"We can't call your dad, he'll find out about you and Scott." Avery tried to reason.

"They're here to kill Lydia." Allison repeated.

"And your family wants Derek dead, you can't call them. Please." Avery pleaded.

She heard the floor creak behind her as Stiles shifted and let out a small sigh at her words.

"Okay." Allison agreed.

A little while later Stiles said, "I got an idea."

Allison and Avery both looked at him.

"Shoot one of them." He said, eyeing Allison's crossbow.

Avery adjusted her purse strap on her arm and looked at him with a raised eyebrow.

"Are you serious?" Allison asked.

"We told Scott we could protect ourselves so let's prove it… or at least give it a shot." Stiles whispered.

Allison scoffed.

"He's right. Derek doesn't think we have it in us to stand our ground and fight back. We have to show them we are just as determined as they are. Shoot someone." Avery agreed.

Stiles looked at her and smiled at her agreeing with him.

"Which one?" Allison asked as she peered back out of the window.

"Derek. Yeah, shoot him preferably in the head." Stiles said nodding.

"Not Derek, Scott was able to catch an arrow. Derek is the strongest, fastest one out of them. He'll be able to catch the arrow with no problem and it will just piss him off." Avery explained.

Allison nodded, knowing she was right.

"Fine then shoot one of the other 3." Stiles said.

"Maybe Erica… shoot her in the eye or something." Avery mumbled bitterly.

"You mean one of the other 2?" Allison asked.

"What? No I mean three." Stiles said as he and Avery looked to see that Isaac was gone.
