Aspen: A Girls Best Friend-Chapter 55
~A Teen Wolf fan-fiction collaboration between Miss E Charlotte and Sage Londyn~
After being pointed in the right direction by the bartender Avery knew, the group of teenagers exchanged worried looks.
"Okay, so we've found Danny." Teagan said, breaking the silence
"Found Jackson too." Scott said as he pointed up to the ceiling.
They all watched as the Kanima crawled effortlessly upside down on the ceiling.
"Get Danny." Scott told them.
"What are you doing to do?" Stiles asked him.
He extended his claws in response.
"Don't kill him." Teagan pleaded.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to." Scott assured her as he walked away.
Just as the trio started in Danny's direction, all the lights dimmed and the tempo of the music sped up.
Strobe lights made it almost impossible to be able to see where they were going or keep their eyes on Danny.
"Danny!" Stiles called hoping to get his attention, but he couldn't be heard over the music.
The fog machine started and made it even more impossible for them to find Danny on the crowded dance floor.
"Uh-oh." Avery said as she saw Derek's glowing red eyes in the fog.
"Uh-oh what?" Teagan asked with a groan as someone bumped into her.
"Just get Danny." She said as she made her way towards the set of glowing eyes.
"Avery wait!" Teagan and Stiles both yelled after her.
"The worst thing we can do is separate." Stiles breathed out.
"She's gone now, I can't even see her." Teagan responded hoping her friend was okay.
As Teagan got bumped again she stumbled more and kicked something, looking down she saw it was Danny.
"Danny!" She shrieked fearing the worst as she dropped to her knees beside him.
"Holy…" Stiles' voice trailed off as he saw several other guys lying on the floor too.
"Derek!" Avery yelled as she got in front of him, her eyes widening slightly at seeing it wasn't just his eyes glowing red, his entire face had shifted.
"Move." He ordered as he tried to walk past her, his voice in a growl.
"Please just listen to me for once… you can't kill him." She pleaded grabbing onto the sleeve of his jacket.
Ignoring her he kept walking, but she held on to the fabric tight.
Seeing the Kanima she yelled, "Scott!"
Hearing her cries for help Scott quickly followed the sound of her voice.
As Derek closed in on Jackson, Avery jumped in front of Derek.
"Stop! I can't let you do this." She said, her voice strong as she hoped Scott could somehow get Jackson out of there.
"I can't let him live." Derek said, his voice low as he stood only a few inches in front of her.
"Derek, I…" she started to say something else, but she let out a gasp of pain as he quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her to the side.
The Kanima had moved towards them and had gotten right behind her when Derek jerked her out of the way.
"No!" Scott yelled as he found them just in time to see Derek use the claws on his other hand to slice the kanima's throat.
Recoiling and hissing in pain the Kanima disappeared back into the crowd, leaving a thick trail of blood behind him.
"How could you?" Avery screamed, as she looked at him with tears in her eyes. Not only would she be losing one of her friends, but she knew Teagan would never recover from his loss.
He let go of her arm and looked down as he could smell the scent of her blood, he'd unknowingly scratched her when he'd pulled her out of the way.
"Are you okay?" Scott asked her as he walked up to them.
"Me? Yeah, I'll live… I'm not so sure about Jackson though." She admitted as she looked at Scott.
He gave Derek a disappointed look and his eyes went down to the floor where the trail of blood was.
Avery looked down to her bleeding arm and then back to Derek, whose face had shifted back to human.
Scott turned to follow the blood trail and Avery started to follow him but Derek gently grabbed her arm above where he'd wounded her and stopped her from walking away.
"Let me go." She hissed.
"I'm sorry… I didn't mean to hurt you." He admitted, his eyes full of guilt as he spoke.
Holding her arm out she said, "This? You're sorry for this? You probably just killed someone I've been friends with for as long as I can remember."
"Things had already gotten out of hand, it was a problem that needed fixed now." He tried to explain.
"No, he's a person… not just some problem." She argued as she turned to walk away.
"Avery!" Derek said as he grabbed her arm again.
"Let go of me!" She yelled as she pulled free.
"Just leave me and my friends alone, you have done enough damage." She yelled angrily as she turned and ran from the club.
On her way out she heard terrified screams from other club patrons as they noticed the men on the floor.
Once outside she could hear Teagan crying loudly, she raced towards her.
Teagan was leaned against the front of a car staring at Jackson's nude, motionless body lying on the ground covered in blood.
Scott stood beside her not sure what to say.
"Oh my god…" Avery breathed out in a pained voice; it looked like he was dead.
Looking to her best friend Teagan yelled, "Who did this?"
"Teagan…" Avery started to say something.
But Teagan cut her off with a loud sob as she shrieked, "Who did this to him?"
"Maybe he's not dead." Avery offered, avoiding her friend's question.
"Avery!" Teagan yelled as she held onto the car to keep herself from collapsing.
Kneeling down Avery reached a shaky hand out and placed 2 fingers on the side of his neck to feel for a pulse.
"She tried to stop him." Scott said looking over to Teagan.
Immediately Teagan knew who they were talking about.
"Derek." She said shaking her head.
Avery gasped and jumped back when she placed her fingers on Jackson's neck and he moved and coughed.
"Jackson!" Teagan yelled as she dropped to the pavement beside him.
"The wounds healed…" Scott pointed out.
"Call Stiles, we need to get him out of here before…" Avery's voice trailed off.
Taking a deep breath she finished, "Before Derek finds him."

Later that night after making sure Jackson was chained up in the prisoner transport van, hidden out of site from Derek and the hunters, the girls finally were able to go home.
Stiles and Scott were going to watch over Jackson that night, then they all were going to meet back up in the morning and come up with a plan to watch him in shifts.
After dropping Avery off at her house since Allison had used her car to take Lydia home earlier that night, Teagan finally made it home and walked through the front door with a heavy sigh.
She was glad she thought to call her dad earlier to tell him she was hanging out with Avery and wouldn't be home till late or she knew he would have been waiting for her as soon as she walked into the door wanting to know everything.
But she was happy to walk into a quiet house, which meant he had went to bed already, because she honestly didn't think she had enough energy to lie to him tonight.
She leaned against the door with her eyes closed for a moment, almost too tired to walk up the stairs, until she felt something against her hand.
She opened her eyes and looked down with a smile when she saw Aspen. She gave him a rub on the head then grabbed the leash to take him out for a bathroom break.
The two stood out in the front yard for a few minutes until he begin to walk over toward the side of the house, pulling her along with him. As he sniffed around at the ground, she leaned back against one of the huge trees on the side of the house then sank down to the ground and rested her head again the hard bark. As she closed her eyes she felt Aspen pulling on the lease and let go of it, knowing he would stay near her and not run off.
She honestly felt like she could fall asleep right where she was until she heard a crunching sound, like someone walking toward her followed by Aspen barking.
She snapped her eyes open and glanced up fearfully then relaxed when she saw it was Isaac. She softly called out his name, and then raised her hand, expecting him to help her stand up but instead he shook his head and sat down beside her on the ground. He knew she was exhausted and wanted her to rest.
As soon as he was beside her, she threw herself into his arms, wrapped her arms around him and resting her head in the crook of his neck.
She closed her eyes and tried to get the image of him convulsing on the floor from the taser that Avery used on him earlier. She hated to see him like that and she knew Avery hated hurting him like that, but at the moment they had no other choice.
"I'm ok." Isaac said softly, as he held her close and rested his head on top of hers. He knew she had been worried about him since she sent him a couple of text messages earlier, but he was still healing from being tased and paralyzed from the kanima venom.
She lifted her head to look at him closely as she asked, "Are you sure?"
Isaac smiled at her concern then reached up to wipe away a few tears that had spilled out from her eyes before saying, "I'm sure. I'm a werewolf, remember? I heal fast."
"I know, but seeing you like that and-and I couldn't do anything about it killed me." She cried out, then added, "Plus I know Avery hated hurting you like that but..."
"Hey, it's ok." Isaac said interrupting her, as he pulled her toward him. She didn't have to explain anything, he knew things were tense right now for them all.
They all had a common problem, trying to stop the kanima, but they had different ways of solving that problem. Derek thought it was best to kill it and at first Isaac agreed, he trusted his alpha and he still did even now, but he was starting to see that maybe Derek didn't know as much as he thought.
All he did know was he wanted the kanima stopped before it killed anyone else. He was especially worried about the girl in his arms the most since her ex-boyfriend is the kanima.
He tightened his hold on Teagan as he thought about all the different times Jackson could have shifted in front of her, like tonight, and hurt her or worse, thankfully nothing happened to her this time, but what about next time? Or the time after that? He didn't know what he would do if he lost her.
"I'm ok." Isaac repeated, and then looked down at her as he added, "But you're the one I'm worried about. Are you ok?"
"Physically, yeah, I'm ok." Teagan answered, then added, "but emotionally I'm a mess."
"I'm sorry. I never should have pulled you in the middle of all this werewolf stuff." Isaac said, as he glanced down at the ground with a pained expression on his face. He hating to see her hurt and knew it was his world that was hurting her.
She was only human, she should be living a normal life and dating normal boys, not ones that would put her life in danger constantly.
"Hey..." Teagan called out softly, as she laid her hands on either side of his face, forcing him to look at her as she added, "I know what you're thinking, but don't. You didn't pull me into anything. I'm here cause I want to be with you Isaac. I care about you so much and I'm not going anywhere."
"But what if you get hurt or worse?" Isaac questioned.
"How can I when I have my strong werewolf boyfriend protecting me?" Teagan joked, as she leaned forward to rest her forehead against his.
Isaac pulled back then said, "I'm serious Teagan. You said it yourself, your boyfriend is a werewolf. But not only that, your ex-boyfriend is a lizard-looking monster going around killing people. This isn't normal, I'm not normal but you are and you deserve the most boring and normal life possible. A life that will not get you killed."
"Look at me Isaac, I'm ok. Nothing is wrong with me." Teagan pointed out.
"Physically yeah, but not emotionally." Isaac repeated what she said earlier, then added, "How many times have you got hurt recently cause of all the werewolf stuff? How many panic attacks have you had? How many close calls?"
"But none of that happened cause I'm with you. Being with you is not wrong Isaac, I know it." Teagan cried out, then added softly as a few tears rolled down her face, "This feels to right to be wrong."
Isaac felt his eyes water at her words, he knew she was right. What they have was right and he wanted her more than he had ever wanted anything before. She was it for him, she was the one he knew he would always want and he knew right in this moment that he had fallen for her.
He was in love with her, but he had to put his wants asides, he couldn't be selfish with her. He had to let her go.
He reached out to wipe the tears from her face then rested his hands on either side of her face before leaning forward to softly kiss her lips, tasting the salty tears on her lips.
For a moment, he kept his lips pressed against hers, not moving and just remembering what it felt like to have his lips against her, a feeling he knew he would always remember, then as much as he hated to do it, he begin to pull away.
When she felt him pull away and go to stand up, she reached out to grab ahold of his jacket, begging him not to leave.
Isaac closed his eyes with a pained expression on his face. He could hear her breathing pick up as she tried to hold back a sob and he could swear that he could hear her heart shattering in a million of pieces or maybe it was his own heart he was hearing, but either way he knew he had to get out of there fast before he took it all back.
"Isaac please, please don't do this." Teagan begged him.
With his eyes still closed, he leaned forward to pressed his lips against her forehead before whispering, "I'm sorry."
Teagan lowered her head as the sob she had been so desperate to hold back finally escaped. She kept her head down for a few seconds as the tears rained down her face.
Hearing Isaac apologize again, his voice cracked slightly, then she looked back up she saw that he was gone.
She heard a whimpering sound coming from her side then turned to see that it was Aspen. She threw her arms around the dog as a new round of tears appeared. Aspen stood still, never moving as he let her cry on him for the rest of the night.
