I'm back! It's been almost a month! Whoa~ how time flies when you're sick, right?
Disclaimer: LoK was never mine…
"I hate crying~" I whined, wiping my eyes. "It always makes me feel like I'm gonna puke…I don't even like air bending! Why couldn't I have gotten a cool element to bend? Like fire? Or earth? I just…I just don't get it!"
"Kalika, you seem to have forgotten water," Eska interrupted, sounding bored. "Water is a very, as you say, 'cool' element."
"Not really," I sniffled, kicking the block of ice that Desna was in. "If water was such a cool element, you would be able to bend your way out of this water trap. Like, if I could bend fire and was in a sphere of fire, I could just bend that fire away, same with rocks."
"I am immensely offended right now," Eska stated, turning her head away from me.
"Wait, she may have a point," Desna replied.
"What do you mean?!" Eska snapped angrily. "Water is obviously the 'coolest' element there is!"
"Oh, I don't disagree with that," Desna said. "Not at all, but couldn't we just bend this ice away?"
Eska blinked. "Oh…yes, I suppose that we could…"
The twins looked at each other, tried to shrug, and, the next moment, shards of ice were shooting everywhere, conveniently missing me. I rubbed my eyes again, walking over to the twins. "I'm tired…" I muttered.
Desna glared at his sister. "See, Eska? This is why I never listen to your plans; they never work out as they're supposed to. Not only did you cause Kalika to tearbend instead of air bend, but now she's tired as well and I'll most likely end up being the one to carry her back to Zuko's dragon."
"Oh, so everything's my fault, is it?" Eska demanded angrily.
"Who else's would it be?"
"Did…" I squeaked, a small smile twitching its way onto my face. "Did you just say…tearbend?" I snorted, trying to stifle my oncoming laughter.
"Yes, what about it?" he replied, turning his attention away from the fuming Eska.
"Eska, your brother just made a joke!" I exclaimed before breaking off into a fit of laughter. After a few minutes of me, laughing, and the twins staring at me like I had two heads, I pulled myself together. Wiping an imaginary tear from my eye, I straightened up, still grinning. "Tearbending! That's a good one; I'll have to tell Bo. Haha, tearbending!"
"Are you quite finished?" Desna demanded.
"Oh, so now you're going to be rude to Kalika as well?" Eska glared. "Are we so inferior that you must constantly look down on us?"
Desna narrowed his eyes to match his sister's glare. "Of course not," he said. "Can we return to battle now? The others will be needing us."
"Uh, actually…" I trailed off, looking around. "I don't think anyone's gonna need us for fighting."
"What do you mean?" Desna asked, looking around as well.
"The bad guys got away," I said, gesturing to the former battlefield. "And our cavalry is down for the count."
… … …
The five of us were in a heated room, warming up after being submerged in snow. Tonraq was wrapped in a blanket, drinking some calming tea while Eska and I sat near a fire at the middle of the room. Desna walked over, laying a blanket over my shoulders before taking a seat next to me. "So what are we gonna do now?" I asked after a moment of silence.
Tonraq and Uncle Zuko shared a look before turning back to us youngsters. "Your uncle and I will work on tracking the Red Lotus down while the three of you go find Korra and protect her," Tonraq stated.
I nodded. "When shall we depart?" Eska asked. "And how will we travel to our cousin's location?"
"As soon as possible," Zuko replied, placing his tea down on the table. "Kalika, I understand you have some experience operating a Sato-mobile?"
"Well, I've driven one before, but…um…I'm not very good at it," I replied, sweat-dropping.
"How 'not good'?" Tonraq asked.
"On a scale of one to ten, ten being the worst, I'm about a twelve," I grinned sheepishly, pulling the blanket around me tighter.
"Well get to a nine and head out," Tonraq commanded, all business.
"Right on, soon to be uncle-in-law," I saluted. "I promise not to kill your only niece and nephew. Maybe maim or seriously injure, but not kill (A/N: Never kill, sir. Dobby only meant to maim or seriously injure lol)."
"Good, now go," Zuko nodded, tossing me a set of keys. "And I don't want a scratch on my Sato-mobile when you give it back."
"Thank you, Uncle!" I grinned, giving him a tight hug. "Make sure you visit me in Republic City some time! It sucks not being able to see you often."
"Will do," he smiled gently. "Be careful."
"Always~" I called behind me as I made my way out of the building. I turned to Eska with a grin on my face. "I can't believe he's letting me drive his Sato-mobile! Officially the coolest uncle ever!"
"Are you sure you can make it to whenever cousin Korra is with your less than mediocre driving skills?" Eska asked, a worried look on her face.
"I'm not that bad," I replied.
"How are we even supposed to locate Korra?" Desna asked.
"Oh, easy peasy," I snapped my fingers as I unlocked the vehicle. "I put a locator chip in Korra while she slept this one time." I was met with blank stares. "What? I put one in Desna too!" More blank stares. "I put them in people I like, okay?!"
"Then why would you not place one in me?" Eska demanded.
"Well, because you're always with Desna so I wouldn't need to put another one in you," I explained. "Are you guys ready? Do you need to stop off at home to get some stuff before we leave?"
"No," Eska stated as her twin said "Yes."
"Okay, first stop casa twin," I nodded, pulling out onto the road.
… … …
Desna said he wouldn't be long so Eska and I waited in the car while he ran inside. I assume he was saying good-bye to his mom and grabbing some clothes and food or something.
He really didn't take long. Reentering the car after only five minutes, he held a little duffle bag which he threw in the back seat next to Eska.
Those five minutes gave me enough time to plug in the ID code of Korra's tracker chip into the Sato-mobile positioning system. We ended up having to wait another fifteen minutes after Desna came back for the system to find Korra and develop directions to get there.
On the road, it was painfully quiet and we couldn't pay the radio while the positioning system was giving us directions so not even that could help.
"Why exactly did you place a tracking device in Korra?" Eska inquired, filing her nails from the backseat.
"For a situation just like this, my dear Eska," I replied, nodding my head slowly. "I'm not as dim as some people think, you know?"
"And you've never informed her?" Desna prompted.
"She never asked," I shrugged, drumming my fingers against the steering wheel. "So, Desna, what'd you pack for our little trip?"
Desna tilted his head, grabbing the bag from the backseat. He unzipped it, pulling out each object one by one as he explained then. "A picture of Eska, me, and my mom. A picture of you and me. A couple snacks. Eska's hairbrush. My hairbrush. Eska's hair ties. Our engagement necklace. A blanket for you. A box of your favorite juices-"
"You brought your necklace?" I asked with a cheesy grin on my face.
He hesitated. "Yes, why would I not carry it with me? Is there…something wrong with that?"
"No, no, not at all," I waved away his concerns. "It just makes me happy that you actually care about it."
He smirked, repacking his bag.
"Wait, wait, wait!" I commanded, slapping his arm.
"What?"
"I want a juice."
There you go! Finally finished!
