Set Free - Chapter 63
~A Teen Wolf fan-fiction collaboration between Miss E Charlotte and Sage Londyn~
Avery sighed as Stiles held the wrapping paper down on the large box and she taped where it needed to be taped at.
"Why are you sighing?" Stiles asked her.
"Because I don't see the point. I bought Lydia a present and you did too, why must we wrap them together in one huge box?" Avery asked with arched eyebrows as she stuck the large bow on the wrapped box.
"Because… we're a couple and we're arriving at the party together. It's just better if we put our gifts in one box." Stiles defended.
"Whatever. You just want to do this that way it looks like both gifts are from us so if she hates yours, she can partially blame me." Avery accused with a small laugh.
"No… alright, fine yes. But you can't blame me. But I'm just starting to be accepted by your world." Stiles said.
"My world?" she asked with an arched eyebrow.
"Yes, the popular world. Lydia's birthday is the biggest party of the year, if I screw this up… I'll be out-casted." He said.
Avery smiled and leaned in as she kissed him, pulling back she patted his cheek and said, "You're already out-casted."
"Ouch." He playfully said as he leaned in and kissed her again.
They had a little while until the date that he'd planned to take her on so he sat down at his desk and looked at the yearbooks he had out.
Sitting down on his lap Avery looked at the desk, "We've looked through this thing so many times and we still haven't gotten anywhere."
"I keep hoping something will just jump out at me." He explained how he was trying to find a pattern or something to fit with the murders.
"I watch a lot of crime shows… maybe I can help." Avery offered as she listened to him explain what he knew so far.
A while later Sherriff Stilinski walked past the door and stopped when he saw Avery sitting on Stiles' lap and both of them concentrating on looking through books.
"Hey… what are you doing?" He asked the two teens.
"Uh, homework." Stiles replied, and Avery nodded.
"It's spring break." He replied.
"Really, what are you guys doing?" He asked them as he walked in the room.
"They brought Harris in this morning for questioning." Sherriff Stilinski told them.
"And?" Avery and Stiles both asked.
"Well, they're working on a warrant to arrest him for the murders." He continued.
"For all the murders?" Stiles asked.
"Enough of them." His dad answered.
"With what proof?" she questioned.
"Remember the couple at the trailer? The tire tracks near by match Harris' car. The same car was also seen outside of the hospital where the pregnant wife was killed." He said.
"But Kara, the one from the rave wasn't in Harris' class." Avery argued.
"And what does any of that have to do with Lahey?" Stiles chimed in.
"It doesn't matter. The tire tracks put Harris at the site of three murders. That's damning evidence." He said as he glanced around his sons room.
"That's not enough!" Stiles exclaimed as he reached around Avery and opened the 2006 yearbook back up.
"I thought you hated this guy." His dad said confused.
"I don't hate him, all right? He hates me." Stiles mumbled.
"I hate Mr. Harris." Avery announced.
"It doesn't matter if we don't like him, there's something missing." Stiles said as he flipped back through the pages.
"Hey, you don't have to solve this for me." He said, his voice softer.
"I have to do something…" Stiles said so quietly Avery barely heard him.
She knew he felt so guilty for what happened with his dads job.
"I… may have something." Avery said as she stood up from Stiles' lap.
"What?" they both asked her.
"Isaac's dad used to coach the swim team… every person who's been killed so far was on the 2006 swim team." Avery explained.
Taking the book from his son, Sherriff Stilinski flipped to the sport team section and looked at the names.
"She's right." He said surprised.
"How did you know that?" stiles asked her.
"Teagan and I used to go to all the swim meets." She admitted.
"What? Why?" He asked.
With a small smile she said, "I used to have a crush on Camden, Isaac's older brother."
"Okay, you two are going to miss your appointment… I'll review all of this and see if I can make another connection." The sheriff said as he took the yearbook.
"Appointment?" Avery asked confused.
"Let's go." Stiles said as he grabbed Lydia's present from the bed and started down the hallway for their date before the party.
"Appointment?" Avery questioned looking to Stiles' dad.
Putting his hands on her shoulders he led her toward the door, "I've said too much already. Have a nice time."

Teagan parked her car in front of Lydia's house and went to turn her car off to walk up to the front door, but before she could she saw the front door open as Lydia walked out of the house and down the walkway to the car with a happy pep in her step.
"Happy birthday!" Teagan called out with a smile, as Lydia sat down beside her in the passenger seat.
"Thank you." Lydia said smiling back, then added, "And thank you for going shopping with me today."
"No problem." Teagan said back.
"I guess Allison and Avery can't be bothered. I guess they don't care that it's my birthday." Lydia pouted.
Teagan chuckled then said, "They do care Lydia. I don't know what Allison has going on, but Avery needed to help Stiles with something."
"Who knows maybe they are out getting your present." She lied, hoping that would cheer Lydia up. She knew Avery and Stiles were really trying to find a pattern with all the murders and try to figure out who the master of the kanima was since their last plan failed, but she saw nothing wrong with telling Lydia a small white lie to help her feel better.
"Besides they will both be at your party tonight." Teagan said, then added, "Plus this is great. Just you and me shopping, we haven't hung out alone in a long time."
"Very true. It has been a long time since Dee-Dee and Tee-Tee went out on the town." Lydia said with a laugh, causing Teagan to cringe at their old childhood nicknames that thankfully never stuck.
"Oh God, we promised to never bring those names up again. Those were horrible nicknames." Teagan said back, laughing.
"What was Avery's terrible nickname again?" Lydia asked.
"Uh..." Teagan said, as she tried to think back to when they were younger and trying to give each other nicknames. She begin to laugh when she finally remembered what it was. "It was Ree-Ree. We were Dee-Dee, Ree-Ree and Tee-Tee" She added.
"Right, that was it." Lydia said laughing, then added, "God, what were we thinking?"
"I don't know, but I do know we should never be allowed to think of nicknames again." Teagan said, "we're terrible at it."
"Yeah, but it was fun." Lydia said softly, as she thought back to when they were younger.
"Things were so much easier back then." Lydia added, "Our toughest decisions were trying to decide what color popsicle we wanted."
Teagan chuckled then said, "You always had to have cherry since you're a red-head."
"And you and Avery always argued between grape and orange." Lydia added with a laugh of her own.
"Well duh! Orange sucks and I didn't want to be stuck with it." Teagan pointed out, as she turned down the road that would led them past the school as she headed for the mall.
Lydia laughed at her comment until they drove past the school. She froze as she saw the lacrosse field and flashed back to the night of the dance when she was bit. She closed her eyes to take a deep breath, hoping it would help calm her down, but instead she gasp in surprise when she saw Peter and remembered all the dreams she had been having lately, but the one she had last night was the worst.
"Are you ok?" Teagan asked, as she glanced over at Lydia and saw the worried expression on her face.
"Have you ever had a dream that felt so real you start to wonder if it really was real and not a dream?" Lydia asked softly, as she stared straight ahead as if in a daze.
"What?" Teagan asked confused.
"I've been having a lot of dreams lately... bad dreams, but they feel so real and I just ..."
"You just what?" Teagan asked when she paused.
"What?" Lydia asked, as she blinked then turned her head to look at Teagan.
"You were talking about having bad dreams? What are you dreaming?" Teagan asked, beginning to worry for her.
"Oh that. You know what, I don't know why I even brought it up, they're just silly dreams." Lydia said, trying to wave it off like it wasn't a big deal.
She didn't know what made her almost open up to Teagan, but figured it wouldn't be a good idea to do it. She would just think she was crazy and try to have her committed or something.
"Are you sure Lydia? If there is something going on you can tell me. Trust me there is nothing you can say that will shock me." Teagan said, trying to get her to open up. After learning about werewolves and kanimas a little bad dream should be easy to solve.
"I'm sure, everything is fine and after we get everything for my party things will be perfect." Lydia said with a smile.
Teagan flashed her a smile but didn't believe her, she wasn't going to push her though.
She knew how Lydia was, there was no pushing for a explanation. She would just shut down. She and Avery were a lot alike when it came to that.
Several minutes later, the two girls were walking around the mall. After buying decorations and anything else they would need for the party, they were now walking around one of their favorite clothing stores as they looked for a perfect birthday outfit for Lydia.
"What about this one?" Teagan asked, as she held up a light purple dress.
"Ooh, that is beautiful." Lydia said, as she took the dress from her hands. She held the dress against Teagan then said, "but I think it would look better on you."
"Really? I-I don't know. Besides we're shopping for you, not me." Teagan pointed out.
"Yeah but there's nothing wrong with you looking hot at my party too." Lydia said, then added,"Besides it'll make that guy you've been seeing go crazy when he sees you in this. What's his name again? Ike?"
"Isaac. His name is Isaac." Teagan said with a chuckle, then added with a sigh, "But we're not seeing each other anymore. He broke up with me."
"Oh well, you can do better. He doesn't deserve you." Lydia said, as she begin to look through a rack of dresses.
"Why cause he's not part of the popular crowd?" Teagan asked angrily. Thinking she was going to make fun of Isaac cause he wasn't part of their crowd.
"No cause he broke up with you. If he doesn't see how great you are, then it's his lost and he doesn't deserve you." Lydia explained.
"Oh. Thanks Lydia, that was really sweet." Teagan said with a smile.
Lydia nodded her head as if to say 'you're welcome' then said, "Ok let's go finish shopping for me. It is all about me day."
"Of course." Teagan said with a laugh, as the two girls begin to look at dresses again.
A few minutes later, Lydia looked over at Teagan and saw the sad look on her face and knew she was thinking about Isaac. She took a step closer to Teagan then said softly, "Don't worry T, he'll be back."
"Hmm?" Teagan asked confused, as she looked over at her.
"Isaac. He'll be back. Even someone as self absorbed as me can see he is crazy about you so I know he'll come back to you." Lydia said with a small smile.
"It's not that simple." Teagan said sadly.
"Love is always simple, we just make it complicated." Lydia said back.
Teagan looked down at the floor as she thought about her comment then nodded her as a small smile appeared on her face. She looked back up at Lydia and chuckled as she said,"I never thought I would see the day you would push me to date someone outside of our social circle."
"What can I say I am growing up." Lydia joked, then added seriously, "I just like to see my friends happy. Which is why I haven't said anything about the dork Avery is dating."
"And I'm sure Avery appreciates that." Teagan said, then added,"but it's still weird hearing you push me toward someone who isn't Jackson. I thought you said he and I were soul mates and everything."
"I never said soul mates, I'm not even sure if I believe in that." Lydia corrected her, then added, "All I know is you and Jackson have a connection and it'll always be there, but even a blind person could see you and Isaac have something special something that most people search their whole lives for and he would be a fool to throw that away."
"Well apparently he is a fool then, cause that is exactly what he did." Teagan said sadly.
"His loss." Lydia pointed out again, then added, "besides there will be tons of cute boys at the party tonight."
Teagan chuckled then asked, "Who all did you invite anyway?"
"Everyone." Lydia answered simply.
"Everyone as in everyone? Even Jackson?" Teagan asked with a worried expression. With it being a full moon that night she was thinking it might not be such a smart idea to have him there.
"Of course I invited Jackson." Lydia said, not seeing what the big deal was.
"But uh, w-won't that be kind of awkward since we both dated him." Teagan said, trying to make excuses why it would be best to uninvite him.
"No. We're all friends remember?" Lydia pointed out, reminding her of the time the three talked in Scott's bedroom.
"Right but..."
"No buts. Everything will be great. You worry to much." Lydia said, as she grabbed a few dressed from a rack then walked toward the back to try them on, leaving behind a very worried Teagan.

Once she was outside of the house she said, "Aren't we going on a date?"
"Of course." Stiles answered.
"Then why did your dad say appointment?" She asked him as she walked towards her car.
"It's a surprise." Stiles answered excitedly.
"I love surprises… but appointment sounds like a doctor. I don't like doctors… or nursing homes." Avery stated as she unlocked the doors, and thought about when Derek had dragged her along when he needed to see Peter in the hospital before everyone found out he was the alpha.
"You'll like this surprise… at least I hope you do." He said, his voice trailing off.
Stiles held out his hand to her.
"What?" She asked.
"Keys." He answered with a wide smile.
"Uh…" she stuttered.
"It's a surprise for you so I have to drive. Plus do I really need to bring up how you let Isaac drive your car after the rave? Isaac!" He exclaimed.
Slowly Avery placed her keys in his hand and walked over to the passenger seat of her car.
"Wait… you're taking me to the tattoo shop for our date?" Avery asked a little while later when Stiles parked Avery's car.
"Yeah… I know it seems kind of weird." He said as he opened her door for her to get out.
"Only kind of?" She asked, with a laugh.
Stiles' bravery was starting to fade as he wondered if he'd made a mistake.
"Are you getting a tattoo and need me to hold your hand?" She playfully cooed as she kissed his cheek.
"Me? No way… I hate needles. We're here for you, your dad came by earlier and signed the paper work." Stiles continued to explain as they walked inside.
"Why would he do that?" She asked.
"Because I asked him to." Stiles admitted.
"I… don't know what to say, because I'm not sure what's going on." She admitted, as she looked around the familiar shop.
"I've been thinking, ever since the night in your dads truck when you said you feel stuck when you see this scar." He said as she held her hand and showed her –her inner wrist.
"You're right about not just having the old tattoo fixed because things are different now, you need something new…" He said as he pulled a paper from his pocket.
She opened it and saw a sketch Stiles had –had the tattoo artist do for him earlier that day.
"It looks like corset lace…" She observed.
He nodded, starting to panic and feeling like it was a terrible idea.
"I… I thought it might look kind of cool to have the lace design over the scar, you know, like your wrist has been laced up." He quickly tried to explain, but his reasoning sounded dumber to himself by the moment.
"You all ready?" The tattoo artist asked as he came out into the small waiting room.
"No, thanks anyways." Stiles said as Avery didn't move.
"So she's not getting the tattoo?" He questioned.
"No." Stiles said.
"Yes, I am." Avery said confidently.
"You… are?" Stiles asked surprised.
"This might be strangest date I've ever been on, I mean not only did you bring me to a tattoo shop; you've also picked the design out for me. But I think it's a great idea, I love it." Avery said as a few tears burnt her eyes.
"You do?" He asked, his honey brown eyes wide.
"I don't want to be stuck anymore." She said as she swatted a tears away from her cheek.
"You don't have to do this…" He started to say but she cut him off with a kiss.
Pulling back she smiled and said, "Thank you."
He kissed her again and watched as she started back towards one of the rooms.
"What are you doing?" She asked him when he didn't follow.
"I thought I'd just sit out here." He admitted.
"No way, you're coming with me." She argued.
"I… hate needles." He reminded her.
"But I need you to hold my hand." She said with a pouty expression on her lips.
"Oh, uh, okay." He agreed as he took her hand and they started back into the room.
"Wait, who held your hand the last time?" He asked once they were in the room and the door was shut.
"No one." She answered laughing.

As soon as Teagan dropped Lydia off she rushed to the school. Even if school was out for spring break the lacrosse team still had to work out and practice and she figured Jackson would be there.
After she parked her car, she ran into the building and made her way toward the boy's locker room. She paused for a moment, remembering the last time she was in the locker room. She felt a chill down her spine as she remember the things Jackson said to her, Avery and Allison.
She was a little scared to go inside again, fearing which Jackson she would encounter. The Jackson she grew up with or kanima Jackson.
Luckily she didn't have to go inside when the door opened and Jackson walked out and began to walk down the hall. She called out his name and ran after him, but it was like he was in a daze and didn't hear her.
Finally she reached out and grabbed his arm as she softly called out his name. He blinked then turned to face her, as if seeing her for the first time.
"Teagan? What are you doing here?" Jackson asked her confused.
"We need to talk." Teagan said, "About tonight."
When Jackson shot her a confused look, she took a step closer to him and said quietly for only him to hear, "it's a full moon tonight. You can't go to Lydia's party."
"I know." Jackson said back.
"So you're staying home?" Teagan asked feeling relieved.
"That's my plan." Jackson said, then added, "You should stay home too. Just in case."
"In case of what?" Teagan asked, feeling nervous again.
"Just in case something happens. I need you far away from the party." Jackson said, as he looked into her eyes hoping to convince her.
"I can't." Teagan said,"I need to be there for Lydia and apparently in case something happens now according to you."
Jackson lifted a hand to rest it on the side of her face as he said, "Just promise me you'll be careful and if something does happen, I want you to get the hell out of there."
"Jackson what's going to happen tonight?" Teagan asked, having a really bad feeling.
"I don't know." Jackson answered honestly, then added, "But I need you to be safe."
"I will, I promise." Teagan said back, then reached forward to hug him as she whispered in his ear ,"Tou too."
Jackson held her close as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He had been having more and more blackouts lately where he didn't remember what he did or what happen, all he knew was he would wake up covered in blood and it honestly scared him.
He was honest before, his plan was to stay home and away from the party, but he feared his plan wouldn't happen. He feared he would blackout again and end up hurting someone again, he just hoped like hell that person wasn't Teagan.
Jackson kissed her on the cheek to tell her 'bye' then walked passed her to walk away. Teagan watched him then after he was out of sight, she took a deep breath and turned back around to see Isaac down the hallway with a pained expression on her face. She wondered if he had been watching and listening the whole time.
"You be careful too." She whispered, knowing he could hear her.
Isaac gave her a short nod then turned to walk down the hall, fighting the urge to go to her but he knew he had to get back to Derek so he could lock him up before the full moon tonight. He could already feel the difference and was fighting hard not to shift, of course seeing her with Jackson didn't help which was why he had listened in to their conversation. He knew it was wrong, but he had to know what they were talking about.
After listening, he now knew she was worried and wished he could go comfort her but he told her the last time they talked he would stay away and he had to keep his word even if it killed him to once again walk away from her.
