Hostages (part two) - Chapter 66
~A Teen Wolf fan-fiction collaboration between Miss E Charlotte and Sage Londyn~
Following Matt's orders, Teagan and Avery started towards where they saw Melissa standing when they heard a gunshot and saw and heard her scream.
They rushed to her side and saw Scott was bleeding as he sat on the floor.
"Baby…" Melissa cried as she started for her son.
"Back, back, back." Matt yelled as he started towards her with the gun.
"Matt come on, no one else needs to get hurt." Teagan said calmly.
Avery took a step in front of Melissa and nodded her head in agreement with her best friend.
"I said get back." Matt threatened looking past Avery to Scott's mom.
"It's okay… I can't explain how, but Scott will be okay." Teagan said as she placed a hand on her arm.
"Do what he says mom." Scott winced out in pain.
"Back up." Avery said quietly as she laid her arm over Melissa's stomach and gently pushed her back some, but still stayed in front of her.
"Get up McCall." Matt threatened him.
Seeing the gun still pointed towards his mom, Avery and Teagan; Scott pulled himself to his feet.
"Matt, Matt listen to me!" They could hear Sheriff Stilinski say from the holding cell area.
"Shut up! Shut up! Everybody shut the hell up!" Matt screamed as he held onto his head.
Seeing the gun waving around wildly, Teagan stood beside Avery, both girls fully shielding Melissa McCall from any possible gunfire.
They both knew she was entirely innocent in the situation.
Scott watched helplessly as they tried to protect his mother the best they could, and he was thankful for them helping.
"Okay, we won't tell you what to do. You're in charge Matt." Teagan said hoping to calm him down some.
He nodded, "You're right. I am in charge."
Avery glanced over at her best friend.
Matt led them through the station to the holding cell room where Sherriff Stilinski was still handcuffed.
Avery and Teagan stood by Scott as Matt locked Melissa in a holding cell.
She pleaded with him to let her stop the bleeding from her son's gunshot wound.
"Please, he needs to see a doctor." Melissa pleaded.
"You think so?" Matt asked with an amused expression as he realized the adults had no idea Scott was a werewolf.
"Hey! Hey! You listen to me." Sherriff Stilinski yelled angrily as he jabbed a finger in Matt's direction.
"It's okay!" Scott announced.
"It's not really bleeding that bad." Teagan agreed nodding.
"No, honey, you're not okay." Melissa sobbed.
"It doesn't hurt mom." Scott tried to reassure her.
"It's the adrenaline." Melissa explained.
"Please, just… just let me take a look at him, okay? I can help stop the bleeding." She continued to plead for his understanding.
"They really don't have any idea do they?" Matt asked.
Scott's eyes widened.
"Please, let me just take a quick look." Melissa cried.
"Shut up, shut up, shut up." Matt hissed as he leaned against the bars of the holding cell.
Teagan watched them argue and hoped he wouldn't hurt anyone else.
"Avery." Sherriff Stilinski whispered.
Walking closer she said, "Yeah?"
"Is Stiles okay?" He asked with a concerned look.
She nodded. "Matt had Teagan and I… tie him up in another room. But he's okay."
"Thank you." He whispered, feeling a bit of relief.
Avery nodded.
"Back to the front." Matt instructed the 3 teenagers.
Taking them into the room where Stiles and Derek were still on the floor, Matt pointed the gun towards Avery and Teagan.
"The evidence is gone, there is nothing to tie you to the murders." Scott tried to reason with him.
"The evidence doesn't matter that much. No, no, I want the book." Matt explained.
"What book?" Avery asked.
"The bestiary. Not just a few pages, I want the entire thing. " He yelled.
"I don't have it, it's Gerard's." Scott admitted.
"What do you want it for?" Teagan asked him.
"I need answers to this." Matt said as he raised his shirt and revealed his side had taken on a scaled look like Kanima skin.
Everyone's eyes widened.
"Okay, we can text Allison and have her bring the bestiary, but you'll have no way to read it… it's in archaic Latin." Scott said as Matt picked up his phone.
"Archaic Latin? Well I know 3 girls who took that class… 2 of them are in this room." Matt reasoned.
"I actually don't remember much from that class at all." Avery admitted.
"Then you will translate it." Matt said to Teagan.
She nodded and he sent a text from Scott's phone.
He then led Scott, Avery and Teagan into another room.
"You're healing right?" Avery asked him.
Scott looked down and nodded.
"Right now, the three of you are thinking 'how are we going to explain this when it heals?' but the sad part is; not a one of you even realize how incredible it is that you actually are healing. You know what happens to everyone else when they get shot? They die!" Matt yelled.
"Is that what happened to you?" Scott asked.
"No, he drowned… it would explain the fear of water." Teagan reasoned out loud, as she looked around the room they were in.
Matt began to explain how he'd went over to Isaac's as a kid to trade comic books, and got caught in a party that Mr. Lahey was throwing for his swim team who had just won state.
Matt had gotten thrown in the pool and started to drown because he didn't know how to swim.
Teagan listened and cringed at the story, she wouldn't put it was past Isaac's dad to let something like that happen.
He told them that Lahey told him not to tell anyone what happened, and he didn't.
"And my parents thought that I was asthmatic, they even gave me an inhaler. No one knew that every time I closed my eyes, I was drowning." Matt continued to explain.
"You know about that little white light that they talk about, you're supposed to see when you die?" Matt asked.
"It's a lie, something they make up to make death seem less scary." Avery spoke up.
Matt looked at her, "Yeah, it was nothing but…"
"Darkness?" Avery finished his sentence.
Matt nodded, his eyes locking with hers for a few seconds.
Teagan's mind flashed back to when Avery was dying from blood loss. Her heart broke at the thought of her friend seeming not to have any comfort in the end; just darkness.
"I didn't see anything but darkness." Matt agreed.
"But then came the Argent's funeral and everything changed. I was taking some photos and then, purely by accident Lahey gets in one of the photos." Matt continued with his story.
As he continued to explain about how he wanted to see Lahey dead, and then the next day he was dead. And he knew Jackson had killed him for him, that they then had a strong bond.
"It was like something out of Greek mythology. Like the furies coming down to punish Orestes." Matt said turning to face the 3 teens.
His gaze stopped on Scott's confused expression.
"You have no idea what I'm talking about do you?" Matt asked.
"Was he the guy who stabbed out his eyes?" Scott asked.
"You dumbass!" Matt screamed angered at him.
"No, that was Oedipus." Avery said quietly.
"The furies were deities of vengeance." Teagan said, hoping to calm Matt back down.
"Their tears ran of blood and they had snakes for hair. If there was a crime that had gone unpunished, the furies would do the punishing." Matt said nodding as he agreed with Teagan.
They all looked back to where Jackson was standing.
"Jackson is your fury." Teagan gasped as tears burnt her eyes.
Moments later the entire police station went dark and alarms sounded.
"What is this?" Matt yelled.
"I don't know." Scott yelled back.
Just then the windows were busted by loud gunfire from automatic weapons outside.
The 4 teens dropped to the floor and someone threw some smoke bombs in.
Scott found his way out of the room, and then Teagan went through another door.
Avery found her way out too and ran to the room where Derek and Stiles had been.
But only Derek was there, struggling to get up from the floor.
"Where's Stiles?" She asked as she helped Derek get to his feet.
"He's fine, Scott already got him." Derek explained, as his eyes locked with hers.
"Was Teagan with him?" She asked hopeful.
"I didn't see her." Derek admitted as he held onto the side of the desk to stay upright.
She swallowed hard and hoped her best friend had found a safe way out of the room.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"The effects of the venom are almost completely gone." He answered, glad to see she was okay.
"Good." She said as she turned to leave.
"Where are you going?" he asked her seeing she was going for the door to lead her further into the building.
"To find Stiles and Teagan." She said.
He grabbed her arm to stop her.
"No, you need to get out." Derek said as he nodded towards the other door.
"No." She argued as she pulled her arm back.
"Avery!" Derek yelled frustrated.
"I'm not leaving." She said as she turned and ran farther into the building.
~()~
The hallway that Teagan was running down was quickly filling with smoke from the smoke bombs.
She coughed and rubbed her burning eyes trying to see which way she needed to go.
Stopping just outside of another room, she tried to catch her breath.
"You should have given me a chance. You know how I said I'm not the kind of guy who would say something like 'Well, if I can't have her, no one can?' It's not totally true because; Allison if I can't have you, no one can." She could hear Matt saying from inside the room.
"Allison?" She whispered to herself wondering why Allison was there.
She waited until the room was silent before she started to head inside to find her friend, but froze when Jackson jumped in front of her.
He was in full Kanima form now.
Her breathing grew labored and she took a few steps backwards, but backed into the wall.
Pinning her against it, he ran his hand down the side of her face as he cocked his head to the side.
She stared into his empty eyes, fearing he might kill her.
He seemed like he was trying to remember who she was as he continued to stare at her.
"J…Jackson?" Teagan breathed out, hoping to be able to finally get through to him.
He stopped moving and ran his hand over the side of her face again.
Her breath caught in her throat and she wondered if he remembered her.
Jackson took a step back and stared at her, his skin started to change back slowly.
"Jackson!" Teagan exclaimed seeing he was starting to become himself again, but the moment was interrupted when Matt ran past them in the hallway.
Breaking Jackson's concentration and he went back to full Kanima.
~()~
Avery ran down the hallway and stopped when she saw Stiles on the floor slowly trying to crawl into the holding cell room.
"What the hell are you doing?" Avery whispered as she stopped beside him.
Just then she heard Melissa scream from the room.
Looking up she saw Matt hit Sherriff Stilinski on the back of the head with the gun, knocking him to the ground.
"Matt! Stop it!" Avery screamed as she ran into the room.
He took another step towards the sheriff with the gun raised like he was going to strike him again.
Avery quickly jumped between them, while Stiles' dad lay unconscious on the floor behind her.
"Move." Matt growled at her.
Stiles watched helplessly from where he was while Avery did everything she could to protect his dad.
He was afraid that Matt might kill his dad, but he was also afraid that Avery would get killed trying to protect his dad.
"Matt, come on we're friends… you have to stop this. Haven't enough people been hurt?" She asked, her watery light brown eyes pleaded with him.
"Friends? You're trying to say we're friends, after all these years of you ignoring me?" He yelled.
"What are you talking about?" She asked.
"I have been trying for years to be your friend, and you always ignored me!" He shouted.
Melissa watched them with wide eyes from the holding cell she was locked in afraid that someone was going to get shot.
"Well, a piece of advice Matt… waving a gun in someone's face isn't the best way to make friends!" She yelled back at him, feeling panicked.
He held onto his head with the hand that wasn't holding the gun as he yelled, "I didn't have another choice!"
"But don't you see, you have a choice now Matt. You have the choice to stop this whole thing before it gets even more out of hand." Teagan said cautiously as she entered the room.
She'd followed Matt after he blew past her and Jackson in the hallway moments before.
Matt looked around the room, the calmness in Teagan's voice and her words were starting to put him at ease and make him feel in control of the situation.
Completely panicked and worried for her son Melissa interrupted the conversation as she yelled, "Please Matt, I heard gunfire and I don't know if my son is okay. Let me see him."
With a look of disbelief Matt screamed, "How totally clueless are you people?"
Thinking she might be able to calm him down more, Teagan took a few steps closer, "Matt you're in control of this situation…"
Her voice trailed off when he raised the gun and pointed it at Avery's head.
"You're right, Teagan. And Avery you keep jumping in front of the barrel of the gun, so obviously it's where you want to be." He said.
"No!" Teagan screamed, as tears ran down her face.
Avery closed her eyes as they burnt from tears and she really thought Matt was going to shoot her.
But the silence of the room was broken by a deep, fierce growl.
They all looked over to see Derek standing in the doorway, his face had shifted and his eyes were glowing red.
"Get away from her." Derek growled at him, he wasn't going to let her get hurt.
Matt took a few steps back and looked at him wide eyed.
Melissa gasped at the sight in front of her.
Soon another growl filled the room as the Kanima entered through the opposite door.
Derek focused his attention on the Kanima and roared another growl.
Teagan gasped and jumped out of the way as Jackson charged towards Derek and Derek threw him across the room.
Matt took the opportunity to make a break for it, but he grabbed Teagan on his way. Thinking if it came down to it, he might need a hostage.
"Teagan!" Avery yelled as she started for them, but couldn't get past Derek and Jackson as they fought.
Looking down Teagan raised her leg and stomped on Matt's foot as hard as she could.
He yelled in pain and let go of her.
She turned and raced back into the room, Matt decided it would be too big of a risk to go after her and ran from the building alone.
Teagan managed to dart past the fight and ran to Avery's side.
Immediately Avery wrapped her arms around her in a tight hug.
"I think he's gone." Teagan whispered as she clutched onto her best friend.
After throwing Derek across the room behind a desk, Jackson ran for the cell that Melissa was in and clutched on the bars, hissing and growling at her.
She coward back in fear and in disbelief from what she was seeing.
Knowing his mom was in danger, Scott ran in the room and put his claws into Jackson's back pulling him from the bars.
Once he let go, Jackson fled the room and Derek chased after him.
"Oh god, Scott? Are you okay?" Melissa asked.
Avery and Teagan stared wide eyed as Scott's mom saw his werewolf face.
Crying in fear she stumbled back farther in to the cell and cried, "No…"
Scott left the room to try and find Matt, unable to see the expression on his mother's face for another second.
"It's okay…" Teagan tried to assure Melissa.
"It… it is not okay." She argued with the teenager as she felt like her entire world was falling apart around her.
Avery leaned down to check on Sherriff Stilinski.
"Is he okay?" Stiles asked, his voice weak as he walked up to them, the venom was almost entirely worn off.
"He's fine, has a steady pulse." Avery assured him as she stood and faced him.
Teagan continued to try and calm Melissa down.
Rushing forward Stiles pulled her shaking body against his, "You saved his life." Stiles breathed out, as he continued to hold her tight.
None of them knew at the moment that Gerard Argent had killed Matt and became the Kanima master.
~()~
"How the hell is Scott going to explain that one?" Teagan whispered to Avery as they watched Scott and his mom drive away.
"I guess he's finally going to have to tell her the truth." Avery whispered back.
"Teagan!" They heard her Paul yell as he jumped out of his car.
"Dad!" Teagan exclaimed as he hugged her tightly.
Avery looked up to see Aspen jump from the open door and run right toward them.
"Are you okay?" He asked her finally releasing the hug.
"Yeah, I'm okay." Teagan assured him as she dropped to the ground the wrapped her arms around Aspen.
"Are you okay?" Paul asked Avery.
"Yeah." She said nodding as she forced a smile.
"This town has seen more trouble in the past year…" He breathed out shaking his head back and forth.
"Is that the sheriff?" Paul asked them as he saw Stiles' dad sitting on the back of an ambulance.
"Yeah, he pretty much got pistol whipped." Avery said nodding.
"My god…" Paul breathed out as he looked at his daughter's bloody and bruised forehead, then to Avery's busted lip and bruised cheek.
"You're both sure you're okay?" He asked.
"Yeah." Both girls said as Avery leaned down to pet Aspen.
An officer came over and told Paul he was free to take his daughter home.
"Avery, you're more than welcome to come stay with us if you don't want to be alone." Paul assured her knowing the way Richard was.
"Thanks, but uh… I'm actually not alone." She said looking back to where Stiles was standing next to his dad.
After the girls exchanged hugs and Avery petted Aspen one last time, Teagan left with her dad and dog.
Avery took a deep breath and turned to walk back to where the Stilinski's were.
"How are you?" Avery asked as she walked up to them.
"I'm okay, only got hit the one time… from what Stiles tells me I've got you to thank for that." He said, looking at her.
Avery glanced over to Stiles and then back to his dad.
"You shouldn't have tried to challenge Matt like that, it was stupid to jump in front of a loaded gun." Sherriff Stilinski said as he held the ice pack on the back of his head.
"Well, I'm not exactly known for making the smartest decisions, I mean look at who my boyfriend is." Avery joked, looking to Stiles who smiled at her.
"Good point." Sherriff Stilinski said with a small laugh.
"Thank you." He said, his words sincere.
She nodded and gave him a warm smile.
"Did anyone call your dad to come get you?" He asked.
"Actually, I was just going to take her home." Stiles spoke up.
"Oh." He said, looking between the two teens.
"Sherriff Stilinski, we need your signature on a few papers a lower ranking officer said as he walked up with a clipboard. He was getting his job back.
"You two be careful, drive safe." He called after them.
~()~
Avery let out a small sigh when Stiles pulled into the driveway at her house and she saw her dad's Cadillac was gone. She had wanted someone else home with her that night after what she'd been through at the police station.
She took out her phone and sent Teagan a quick text to let her know that she'd made it home safely.
Once in her room she took her jacket off and threw it on the computer chair as she rubbed her hands over her face.
"Are you okay?" Stiles asked her.
With a half smile she asked, "That's a joke right? Because we were all held at gun point for hours and hours."
He glanced down at the floor and nodded as he replied, "Yeah, I didn't really know what else to say."
"Thanks for walking me up to my room." She said, as she turned and faced him.
Remembering that they'd been driving Avery's car for the date Stiles said, "I can call my dad to come get me, since we drove your car."
She watched as he pulled his cellphone from his pocket.
Walking over she took the phone from him, and he looked at her confused.
"Or… you could stay here with me." She said, her voice soft.
"Yeah, okay… he can just get me later." Stiles said, not understanding that she meant she wanted him to stay the night with her.
Avery glanced around the room and bit her bottom lip as she shook her head, "Stiles come on." She said not able to hold back a small laugh.
"What?" he asked, confused.
Grabbing onto the sides of his face she pulled him in, until their lips met. Moving her lips hungrily against his, before pulling back and her eyes locked with his.
She swallowed hard as they stared at each other, all she kept seeing her head was Kate killing him in the hallucination she'd had at Lydia's party.
Then she'd had to watch Matt almost kill him after he'd been paralyzed with the Kanima venom.
Her heart raced at the thought of losing him, not only was he her boyfriend now, but he had also became one of her closest friends.
Closing her eyes she leaned in kissing him again, thankful he was safe.
"I don't just mean stay with me until later tonight. I mean I don't want you to leave at all tonight." She whispered, with their faces only inches apart.
His eyes widened, "Uh, Oh… you mean…" He started to say but she silenced him with another kiss.
Pulling back she smiled as she nodded and said, "Yeah, that's exactly what I mean." As she glanced over her shoulder to where her bed was.
Moments later their mouths were joined again and the heat from their kiss grew as they clutched onto each other, both of their breathing growing shallower by the second.
Reaching down between them, she broke the kiss as she pulled his t-shirt off over his head.
His breath caught in his throat as she ran her hands up his bare stomach and chest before pulling his face back to hers.
She smiled against his parted lips when she felt his hands slowly start to creep under the bottom of her shirt.
Breaking the kiss his eyes searched her face, before he pulled her shirt off.
His eyes stopped on the dark green and black lace bra she was wearing.
Looking down to the soft shirt still in his hands, he shook his head back and forth in disbelief.
"What?" She asked her breathing was labored as she spoke.
"I just… can't believe this is happening." He admitted as he tossed her shirt over to the computer chair.
She smiled to herself at the look of adoration in his eyes; she loved how highly he thought of her.
When he looked at her, it was obvious that she was the only thing he was thinking about; like she was the most important person to ever exist.
"What?" He questioned her as she remained silent and stared at him.
She shook her head as she replied, "It's nothing really, just… I don't think anyone looks at me like you do."
He gave her a slightly confused look, "Is that a good thing or not?"
Smiling she said, "Definitely a good thing."
Taking a step closer he ran his hands down her sides and stopped on her hips, his breathing growing shallower as he scanned her body before his eyes locked with hers.
Pulling her closer, he held her tightly against him as he kissed down her neck causing her to moan softly and arch in his arms.
Now in her bed, their hands pulled at the last remaining layers of each other's clothing.
She smiled up at him as she realized there was nowhere else she wanted to be in that moment, than there with him.
~()~
Later that night, Teagan walked into her bedroom with a tired sigh. After her dad picked her up at the station, he stopped by her favorite Chinese place to pick up dinner then sat beside her on the couch, offering to watch all her favorite shows that were piling up on the DVR, which she accepted.
She really didn't want to be alone, but now it was hours later and her dad was ready to turn in for the night.
For a brief moment she thought about asking if she could sleep in his room until she realized she wasn't a little girl anymore, besides she could do this, she knew she could.
She walked into her bedroom and stood in the middle of the room, glancing around with her arms folded across her chest.
She took a deep breath and slowly released it as she closed her eyes, hoping to shake that nights memories from her mind, with no luck.
Unfortunately for her, she still saw the gun pointing at her every time she closed her eyes, but she knew she had to move past it. She was strong, she could do it.
With that thought in mind, she went over to her bed, softly smiling at Aspen who was already lying comfortably in the bed. She lay down beside him, hugging up to him, then closed her eyes, hoping to have a restful sleep.
She wasn't so lucky though. The horrible night kept coming back to her, making her toss and turn for the next several hours until she heard her cell phone vibrate on the table beside the bed.
She quickly sat up in bed, shooting Aspen an apology for waking him up, then reached out for her phone, wondering who was calling her so late.
She hoped and praying something else tragic wasn't going on. Or maybe it was Avery, maybe she was having nightmares just like she was.
Teagan glanced down at the caller ID, a number she didn't recognize popping up on her screen. She lowered her eyebrows in confusion, not sure who it was, but to curious to ignore it.
"Hello?" Teagan asked nervously, as she answered the call.
When there was no answer, she called out 'hello' a few more times, wondering if it was a wrong number or maybe the person had hung up already until she heard something. She heard his breathing pick up and knew exactly who it was.
"Isaac?" Teagan breathed out, feeling her heart beating in her chest.
She gripped the phone, wishing he was there with her. Between the hallucination at the party and being held at gun point she needed him.
She needed to see him with her own eyes, feel his heart beating under her hand and kiss him until all the bad memories went away. She needed him to hold her in his arms to feel like everything was ok again.
"I'm ok." Teagan said softly, then added, "If um, if that is why you are calling. I'm ok."
The longer he stayed silent the more nervous she become and began to ramble, "I mean it wasn't fun having a gun in my face, but I'm alive, which is what you wanted right?"
She heard him blow out a sigh of relief. It was like he just had to hear she was fine with her own voice to believe it and now he could breathe again.
"How uh, how are you? Derek said you got away but came back on your own. That's great Isaac. You're leaning to control it and I'm so proud of you." Teagan stated, feeling tears fill her eyes and wished he would say something, anything to her.
"I miss you." Teagan breathed out, as she felt a tear slide down her cheek. She reached up to wipe it away then gave a little sniff, as she added, "I miss you so much Isaac."
She heard him sigh at her words and whispered out a apology. She pressed the phone against her ear, hoping he would say something else, but instead heard the phone click as he ended the call.
After hearing her heartfelt words, Isaac knew he had to get off of the phone with her before he said something he shouldn't, before he rushed to her side and took everything back.
He knew he probably shouldn't have even called her, Derek told him the whole story and even told him that Teagan was ok and that her father took her home, but he had to hear it from her that she was ok.
He needed to hear her voice, even if doing so broke his heart. Being away from her was a lot harder than he thought it would be.
He knew it was going to be hard to walk away from the first and only girl he had ever loved, but it was a lot worse than he imagined. He heard in class one time, 'There are two tragedies in life. One is to lose your heart's desire. The other is to gain it.', which he never quite understood.
How could gaining the one you love be a tragedy, but now he got it. Now he understood. Loving and losing Teagan was definitely a tragedy. Although he would never regret the loving her part.
He looked down at the phone in his hand, the phone he had borrowed, and felt a couple of tears falling from his eyes.
He shook his head, trying to get her out of his head and failing, then slipped the phone into his front pants pocket as he turned around and walked back over to the subway cart.
It still killed him to be away from her, but at least she was alive and like she said earlier, that was all he wanted.
