Run Like Hell, Teagan - Chapter 68

~A Teen Wolf fan-fiction collaboration between Miss E Charlotte and Sage Londyn~

After overhearing Isaac tell Scott he was leaving, Teagan rushed home and kept it together long enough until she walked in her front door.

She let Aspen out back then ran upstairs to her room as tears fell from her eyes. All she wanted to do was hide under her blankets as she cried her eyes out. She couldn't believe he was actually leaving town.

She thought back to the time she told him how hard it was to get over him when he was always there, but she didn't mean she wanted him to leave. Sure it was hard getting over him when he was around and it hurt being near him while not being with him, but at least she always knew he was there and he was ok.

With him gone she would constantly be worried about him, worried that a hunter had found him or worried that he was hurt by another werewolf. She knew it would drive her insane, plus the fact that she would miss him like crazy.

Just thinking about how she would never get to see his smile again, hear him laugh or seeing his eyes light up whenever she was near caused a new round of tears to appear. She honestly didn't think she could survive without him.

When she made it to her bedroom door, she threw the door open and rushed inside with tears running down her face. She came to a stop and gasped in surprise when she saw Isaac standing near her window.

She quickly wiped away the tears, not wanting him to see how devastated she was. He went to take a step toward her, wanting to explain, but she took a quick step back and shook her head, not wanting to hear his excuses.

"Why are you here?" Teagan asked, then added angrily before he could answer, "Oh wait let me guess, you're here to give some bullshit excuse before skipping town."

"It's not like that." Isaac said with a pained expression. He had been dreading this conversation. Saying 'good-bye' to her was going to be the hardest thing he had ever done.

"Yes it is." She argued back. "You're giving up, you're running away and there's no good excuse you can give that makes that ok."

Isaac shook his head with a sigh then said, "Just let me try to explain."

"When are you leaving?" Teagan asked, ignoring his comment.

"I'm leaving with Boyd and Erica tonight during the game." Isaac answered.

Teagan glanced over at the alarm clock then said, "Well I guess you need to get going then. The game is starting soon."

"So I'll save you some time." Teagan snapped, then added, "Good-bye Isaac, have a nice life."

"Don't be like that, Teagan." Isaac said with a sigh, then added, "I'm not doing this cause I want to, I'm doing it cause I have to. "

"No you don't." She argued.

"Yes I do." He said back ,"As long as I am in your life you'll always be in danger."

As she shook her head to disagree, he added, "If it's not kanimas, it'll be something else, there is always going to be something dangerous out there."

"Then we'll get though it together." Teagan pointed out, "Just like we have everything else. I've survived an alpha and a kanima, hell I've even survived a revenge seeking psycho with a gun, I can handle it Isaac."

"And what if next time you don't survive it?" Isaac questioned, then before she can answer he added, "Besides it's not just the supernatural stuff that is a problem. There are hunters out there too, some that don't live by a code like they are supposed to and what if another one comes along that will hurt someone innocent to get what they want?"

Teagan looked at him with a shocked expression as he said, "Yeah I know what really happened to Avery. It wasn't a robbery gone wrong, it was Kate. She used Avery to get Derek to break and Avery almost lost her life cause of it."

"You don't know to remind me about what happened. I was there Isaac, I held her in my arms and thought she was going to bleed to death before we could get her any help." Teagan snapped, as she remembered that terrible night.

""I'm sorry, I'm not trying to hurt you by bringing that up. I'm just trying to make a point. I don't want anything like that to happen to you cause I'm in love you." Isaac said without thinking.

Teagan quietly gasp in surprise at his comment. He had never admitted to loving her before. She had always hoped to hear those words from him one day, but not like this.

Tears filled her eyes as she shook her head and whispered, "Don't say that."

"What? Why?" Isaac asked confused, not realizing she meant the 'I love you' part. He didn't mean to let it slip and didn't even realize that he had said it. Before she could answer he added, "It's true Teagan. I don't want someone to hurt you to get to me. I don't want you involved in any of this."

"That's not the part I am talking about." Teagan said,"I'm talking about the other part. The last part."

Isaac shot her a confused look as he thought back to what he just said, then felt his eyes widen when he realized his slip up. It's not that he didn't want to say it to her, it's just he had never said those words to a girl before and the thought was nerve racking.

It was even more nerve racking now since she apparently didn't feel the same or at least that is what he assumed since she told him not to say it to her. Not that he blamed her if she didn't feel the same, he knew he didn't deserve her love.

But even with all of that in mind, he realized he wanted her to know how he felt before he left town. She was the first girl he fell in love with and he knew she would be the only girl he would fall for and he needed her to know that.

"I'm sorry, I know you don't want to hear it, but it's true." Isaac said,"Teagan, I love. .."

"Don't." Teagan begged him, as she cut him off.

"You can't tell me that you love me and then leave me in the same night. You can't do that Isaac, it's not fair." She cried out.

"I'm sorry." Isaac said softly, as he glanced down at the floor, hating to see the tears in her eyes.

"Don't be sorry Isaac, just be here." She said crying harder, "You said you would never run from me, so don't run, please."

Isaac wiped away the tears from his eyes then opened his mouth to apologize again until they heard Aspen downstairs barking excitedly as he came back inside and made his way upstairs.

She turned her head for a moment to watch him run inside her bedroom. She turned her head back to look at Isaac but was met with a empty room. She cried out in surprise at seeing that he was gone.

She sat down on the edge of the bed, she couldn't believe this was the end. This was the end for them and he was leaving for good.

She lowered her head as more tears fell down her face. She wasn't sure how long she had been sitting there crying when she heard her cellphone ringing.

She quickly wiped away the tears and cleared her throat before answering, hoping whoever was on the other end wouldn't be able to tell she had been crying.

"Hey, T, listen I know we had talked about riding to the game together but I forgot I have an errand to run so would it be ok if I just met you at the game?" Avery asked all at once as soon as she answered.

"Yeah, yeah I can meet you there." Teagan said, actually grateful for the change in plans. It gave her more time to pull herself together before going to the big game.

"Are you ok? Did something happen?" Avery asked, when she heard a small sniffle.

"T, talk to me." She added when she was met with silence on the other end.

She heard Teagan took a deep breath then slowly released it as she finally said, "Isaac's leaving."

"What? Leaving? As in leaving town leaving?" Avery asked surprised.

"Yeah. Apparently Boyd and Erica are leaving too during the game and he's going with them." Teagan explained.

"What the hell? What is that boy's problem?" Avery asked angrily. She knew how devastated Teagan was about him leaving town and she hated knowing that her best friend was hurting.

"Ok, screw it, I'm coming over now." Avery said, as she looked for a good place to turn around. She had planned to go talk to Derek about what Peter told her earlier, but being there for Teagan was more important right now.

"No, no just go do what you have to do. I can't keep crying about this, he made his choice and there's nothing I can do." Teagan said sadly.

"Have you told him how you felt?" Avery asked, then added when Teagan didn't answer, "Teagan, did you tell him you love him?"

"It wouldn't matter if I did. He's gone, A." Teagan mumbled, feeling numb to it all and not realizing Isaac was still outside her window, overhearing everything she and Avery were saying.

~()~

Avery walked through the woods after she sent Stiles a text saying she might be a little late but that she would be at the game.

She could hear sounds of fighting as she neared the remains of the Hale house.

Opening the door and walking in she saw Derek throw Peter down the stairs and then kick him in the ribs.

"Come on, do it. Hit me, hit me. I can see that it's cathartic for you, you're letting go of all the anger self-loathing and hatred that comes with total and complete failure. I may be the one taking the beating, Derek, but you've already been beaten." Peter told his nephew.

She watched as Derek's arm shook a little, he wasn't sure if he wanted to hit him again or not.

Crossing the room she gently put her hand on his arm.

He looked over at her startled, he'd been so distracted he hadn't heard her come in.

Derek let go of his uncle and Peter pulled himself to his feet. Wiping some blood from his mouth he look to Avery and said, "It would have been a lot more helpful if you'd showed up 20 minutes ago."

"Honestly, I've been outside listening for a while." She said with a smirk as she looked at him.

"What are you doing here?" Derek asked her.

"I don't want to see Gerard win, and I'd really… really like to be able to save Jackson." She admitted.

"And she's here to save you." Peter said to him.

Avery shot him a look.

"You are…" Peter said as he leaned back against the wall.

"How do you think you're going to save Jackson?" Derek asked her.

"I'm going to help her." Peter explained, knowing it would get under his nephews skin.

Derek looked between them as he shook his head, "No, no way. You're not working with him."

"I have a way to save Jackson, not kill him… but save him." Peter said.

"Even if you did, why would you help any of us?" Derek asked him.

"I'm not healing as fast." Peter said to himself as he looked in a piece of a broken mirror.

Looking back to his nephew he said, "I need a pack, an alpha like you, Derek. I need you as much as you need me."

"I don't need you." Derek argued with him.

"You built your pack and you tried to prepare for the worst, but you weren't ready because of it Gerard is winning. He's relishing in his victory, and right now Jackson is his most powerful weapon. We have to stop him." Peter reasoned.

"And how are we going to do that, without killing him?" Derek asked.

"There's a myth that you can cure a werewolf by calling out it's Christian name." Peter started to say.

"But it"s just a myth." Derek argued.

"Most of the time legends and myths have some truth to them." Avery said looking over to him.

"She's right." Peter said with a smirk.

"Look, our name is a symbol of who we are. But the Kanima has no identity, that's why it doesn't seek a pack." He continued to explain.

"It seeks a master." Derek said nodding.

"And who else grows up with no pack? No identity?" Peter continued.

"An orphan." Derek said.

Avery nodded in agreement.

"And right now his real identity is disappearing beneath the reptilian skin and you need to bring him back." Peter said, his voice a little raised.

"How?" Derek yelled, feeling like Peter wasn't telling him everything.

"Through his heart, how else?" Peter shot back at him.

Avery's eyes widened.

"You know, in case you haven't noticed. Jackson doesn't really have too much of a heart to begin with." Derek argued.

"That's not true at all." Avery replied shaking her head back and forth.

"There is one person, one young lady with whom Jackson shared a real bond." He continued.

"Teagan." Avery answered as she bit down on the inside of her cheek.

"That's why you went to Avery? So she could get Teagan to help us?" Derek questioned his uncle.

Shaking his head he said, "No, I went to Avery because just like Jackson… there is one person who can reach you."

Derek shook his head and scoffed, causing Avery to narrow her light brown eyes at him.

"You really don't see it, do you?" Peter asked, his tone showed slight amusement as he spoke.

"See what?" Derek asked.

"That you need her." He answered.

Shaking his head Derek stood up and said, "I'm done listening to this."

"Your best ally has always been anger, but what you lacked the most was heart. Until you met her, whether you want to admit it or not… she makes you better, stronger." He said as he looked around the charred inside of the house.

Derek glanced over to Avery and their eyes locked before he pulled his gaze away.

"Why are you telling me this?" Derek asked, a little confused.

"Because even somebody as burned and as dead on the inside as me knows better than to underestimate the simple yet undeniable power of human love. It's what will save Jackson and it's what will save you too." Peter admitted, smirking at them. It was obvious to him that he was smartest one in the room.

Just as he finished talking, her cellphone went off from her pocket.

"I… I have to go." Avery announced.

"Go where?" Derek asked.

"The lacrosse game." She admitted honestly.

"Didn't you come here to help us?" Peter asked her.

She looked between them as she said, "You guys don't know, do you?"

"Jackson is playing in the game tonight…" She answered.

Before they could say anything she said, "When the games over I'll talk to Teagan about Jackson, and I guess we'll go from there."

~()~

Later that evening, Teagan parked her car in the school parking lot and stepped out into the cool night. She glanced around and looked for Avery's car but noticed she wasn't there yet.

She was to upset earlier about Isaac to even think about asking Avery what she had to do before the game that was so important, but she hoped she would show up soon before she begin to panic about her safety.

She pulled out her phone, planning to send Avery a text to find out how far away she was, but before she could she heard someone call out her and turned around to see Scott's mom, Melissa.

Teagan softly smiled when she saw the older woman before walking toward her. The two met up outside the school building then called out a friendly greeting to each other.

"How are you?" Teagan asked her. She had not seen her since that night at the station and from what she had heard Melissa wasn't dealing well with the whole werewolf thing.

"I'm... I'm dealing or at least trying to." Melissa answered honestly.

"It's great that you're here for Scott. I'm sure that is going to mean a lot to him." Teagan said back with a smile.

Melissa nodded her head then said,"I still don't understand any of this and I probably never will." She paused for a moment to get control of her emotions before continuing,"but he's my son and I'll always love him so I-I want to be there for him."

"You want to go in and see if we can find him before the game?" Teagan suggested, as she nodded her head toward the building.

Melissa nodded her head, not trusting herself to speak, then took a deep breath as she followed Teagan inside as she made her way toward the locker room.

Teagan nervously reached out to open the door, she still felt uneasy about the locker room after the time she went in to talk to Jackson and he attacked her, but she figured after everything that had happened he wouldn't be at the game tonight. She had not even seen him since the night they were at the police station.

The two cautiously walked inside, walking past several lacrosse players as they looked around for Scott. Although if she was being honest, Teagan was looking for another player.

Even if Isaac said he was leaving, there was a small part of her that hoped he had changed his mind and would be in the locker room with the other players.

They walked further into the room then paused when Coach Finstock begin to make a speech to his players. Teagan lowered her eyebrows in confusion when she realized the speech sounded very familiar to her.

She glanced over at Melissa, seeing the same look on her face. They saw Stiles standing in front of them with his back toward them until Melissa reached out to tap him on the shoulder, he turned his head and flashed a smile when he saw them. He looked past them, looking for Avery and frowned when he didn't see her.

"What the hell is he talking about?" Melissa asked Stiles, as she nodded her head toward the coach.

"He does this every year." Stiles answered, as he begin to wonder where Avery could be, he thought she and Teagan were arriving together.

"Is this the speech from Independence Day?" Teagan asked, finally remembering where she heard the speech from.

Stiles nodded his head then said, "It's coach's favorite movie."

"Does he know any sport speeches?" Melissa questioned.

"I don't think he cares." Stiles answered.

As Coach Finstock finished his speech all the players begin to cheer out, getting pumped for the game. Melissa and Teagan clapped to be polite until Gerard stepped up behind the coach, wanting to make a speech of his own. Teagan felt Melissa tense up beside her and wondered if something had happened between them. She knew Gerard freaked her out, but it seemed like it was more than that for Melissa.

"Are you ok?" Teagan whispered over at Melissa.

Melissa nodded her head, not wanting to tell the younger girl about what happened with Gerard.

She was having a hard enough time trying to put the memory of the kanima choking her as Gerard threatened her son to turn over Derek, behind her The younger girl had already went through enough and she didn't want to add on to it.

The two listened to Gerard talk for a few minutes until Melissa just couldn't stand to look at him any longer. She whispered over to Teagan that she was going to go find a seat and would see her later.

Teagan nodded her head and watched as Melissa left the locker room, wondering what was going on with her but hoped things were ok.

"Where's Avery?" Stiles whispered over to Teagan once Melissa was gone.

"She said she had an errand to run, but she'll be here." Teagan answered.

"What errand?" Stiles asked confused.

Teagan shrugged her shoulders and opened her mouth to say she didn't know until Gerard said something that made their mouths drop open in surprise. He was taking Scott out of the game and putting him on the bench.

"Did you know Scott wasn't playing?" Teagan asked Stiles.

"No and from the looks on his face I don't think he did either." Stiles said, as they watched Scott run over to the coach, begging him to let him play.

"Something bad is going to happen tonight isn't it?" Teagan asked him with a worried expression on her face.

Stiles slowly nodded his head then said, "Yeah, I think it is."

Teagan exhaled as she glanced around the locker room and felt her eyes widen in surprise when she saw Jackson. She looked back over at Stiles as she said,"Yep something bad is going to happen."

Stiles looked over at her in surprise and saw her nod her head over toward Jackson. He now understood what she meant.

Teagan took a deep breath then went to walk over to Jackson until Stiles reached out and grabbed her arm, asking her where she was going.

"I got to go talk to him." Teagan answered.

"Do you really think that is a good idea?" Stiles asked, then added, "It's never worked before."

"Maybe not, but I have to do something. I can't just stand here and do nothing, I have to try." Teagan said, figuring now would be a safe time to talk to Jackson since they were surrounded with people. She doubted he would hurt her with that many witnesses or at least she hoped so.

She told Stiles she would see him outside then cautiously made her way over toward Jackson, who was looking into his locker as if in a daze. She softly called out his name but wasn't at all surprised when he ignored her.

She glanced around, making sure no one had left the room, then took a step closer to him as she laid a hand on his arm and said his name again.

Jackson shook his head, coming out of the daze and turned to face her, seeing her for the first time. He looked around with a surprised look on his face, he never even remembered getting dressed for the game or arriving at the school much less walking into the locker room.

Apparently he had blacked out again.

He turned his head to look back at Teagan as he said, "Stay away from me."

"What?" Teagan asked confused.

"Something is happening, something bad." Jackson said, "If you see me coming toward you after the game I need you to run away."

He saw her open her mouth to question him about the comment, he quickly cut her off as he added,"I mean it Teagan, no matter what, you run like hell ok?"

Teagan bit her bottom lip, her stomach in knots as she worried about what was happening and hoped like hell they all would survive.

She saw Jackson watching her, waiting for her to agree to what he said then finally nodded her head to him. He took her by surprise as he pulled her toward him to hug her tightly as if it was the last time he would ever see her again.
