Twice in A Blue Moon
Chapter Three - Ice Cold
~ A Teen Wolf fanfiction collaboration between Miss E Charlotte and Sage Londyn.~
Sighing Teagan pulled to a stop at the end of a line of cars stopped at a red light. She was on her way to see Isaac at Derek's new loft.
Hearing her phone ring she took it from her pocket and answered it.
"Stiles?" She said, as she'd seen his number on the screen.
"Teagan… are you home?" He asked, his voice revealed he seemed shaken up.
"No, I'm in my car. What's wrong?" She asked.
"I was getting ready to leave for your house." He admitted.
"What's wrong?" She repeated her question, her concern growing by the second.
"It's, uh… it's about Avery." He said, not wanting to stress Teagan out more than she already was with everything going on between her and Isaac.
"I'm coming over." She said as she ended the call and checked her mirrors before she pulled into the turn lane and headed towards his house.
~()~
"Tell me again why you have a cat." Sheriff Stilinski said as he looked down to the black kitten curled up on his son's bed.
Stiles sighed as he shut the laptop in front of him and spun his computer chair around to face his dad, trying to block the computer from his view.
"That's Avery's kitten, Annabel Lee." Stiles explained.
"Uh huh, and you took this animal from her house?" He continued to ask.
"Yes, her dad said that Annabel's been acting weird and hiding ever since Avery left." Stiles defended his actions.
"But her dad does know you're holding onto it until Avery get's home, right?" Sheriff Stilinski asked.
Stiles avoided his dad's eyes.
With a sigh he rubbed his forehead and said, "Damn it, Stiles. You just took the cat?"
"I… yeah, I took the kitten." He admitted.
Stiles watched his dad's expression, trying to read it.
"What?" He questioned.
"It's just, I went to see Dr. Deaton today, see if he had any insight to the strange behaviors with animals lately. The birds in the classroom, and the deer running into your friends car." He began to explain.
"And? What did he say?" Stiles asked, sitting forward on the edge of his seat.
"He didn't have any idea of what was going on. But he took me to the room where they hold all the cats and…" his voice trailed off as he thought back to being at the vet's office.
"And what dad?" Stiles asked.
"Every single cat had killed itself inside of their cages." He said.
Stiles thought back to Lydia saying that Prada had bit her a few days prior and the dog had never bitten anyone before that.
Hearing a knock at the door, Stiles stood up and said, "It's probably Teagan."
"I'll get the door, and then I'm going to call Richard Dukate and let him know you're holding onto the cat until she gets back from vacation." He said, shaking his head at his son as he walked out of the room.
Stiles sat back down at his desk and sighed as he ran his hands through his hair and shook his head.
"Hey Stiles." Teagan greeted as she walked in the room, her eyes focused on her phone as she sent her dad a text to let him know she'd be home late that Stiles needed her help with something.
Instead of him greeting her, she was greeted by a familiar high pitched 'meow'.
"Hi Annabel…" Teagan greeted as she spotted Avery's pet carrier in the corner of the room and cat toys on the floor.
Glancing over to his bathroom she saw a small litter box just inside of the door.
"Why do you have her?" Teagan asked.
"Uh, her dad is really stressed with work." He said.
"He would have called me if he needed anyone to watch her." Teagan said as she sat down on the bed and lightly stroked the small black kitten.
"I went over there after school to see if she was home, and I just took her." He admitted.
"Stiles, I'm really starting to freak out can you please tell me what the hell is going on?" Teagan asked.
"I've made a list of Avery's favorite things. Books, movies, bands… everything I can think of." He said as he handed her a notebook.
"Can you think of anything to add to it?" He asked.
Skimming over the page she said, "No, this is probably a better list than I could have made."
"Great. Just perfect." He muttered.
"Stiles, answer me. What is going on?" She pushed for an explanation of his strange behavior.
"I'm just… trying to make a list of her favorite things." He lied.
"You're a terrible liar." Teagan said as she dropped the notebook beside her on the bed.
"I've been trying to make a list of things she might use as a password. I've been trying to hack into her computer." He admitted.
Looking past him she saw her best friends laptop sitting on his desk.
Teagan's dark brown eyes widened, "She's going to freak out when she gets home. You didn't only steal her pet, but her computer too."
"I know that she has all of her online passwords saved on the websites, if we can just get into her computer… then we can go to the website and see when the last time she used her cellphone was and turn on the G.P.S." He said.
Teagan's forehead wrinkled with confusion and concern.
"What aren't you telling me?" Teagan asked, scooting to the edge of the bed.
"Am I the only one worried that Avery hasn't talked to anyone this summer? The last person to hear form her was when she sent a text to her dad. That was months ago, Teagan. Months ago." He said.
Anger flashed in her eyes, "She is my best friend, of course I'm worried. But I also know her better than anyone and she was serious when she said she wanted a summer disconnected from everyone."
Stiles shook his head and stared at Teagan.
Sighing Teagan said, "Look, I checked at the airport and her car is there. I used the spare key she hides to look inside and all of her luggage is gone too."
"Wait, what spare key?" he asked.
Teagan gave him a small smile, "Maybe you don't know as much about her as you think you do."
When Stiles didn't even smile back, Teagan got up and picked the laptop up from his desk.
"You know her password?" he asked, his eyes wide.
"Don't you know Scotts?" She replied with an arched eyebrow.
Stiles watched as Teagan's fingers hovered over the keyboard.
"What are you waiting for?" He asked, as he nervously licked his lips.
"She's my best friend and I'm worried, but Avery likes her privacy. This just doesn't feel right." Teagan admitted, biting down on her lower lip.
"Screw how it feels. This is Avery and she's missing or something." Stiles blurted out.
Setting the computer to the side Teagan said, "You tell me exactly why you're this worried and I'll log onto her computer for you."
"You've got enough going on." Stiles said.
"Avery is my best friend, if you know something and you're not telling me…" Her voice trailed off leaving the threat open.
With a sigh of defeat he said, "After Kate Argent attacked her, I sat with Avery for a long time at the hospital and she told me something. And lately, I just can't get it out of my head."
Teagan nervously rubbed her hands together as she waited for him to go on.
"I'm just starting to feel like maybe I shouldn't have broken up with her right before she was supposed to leave. What if she needed me… or what if there was some sign, and I just didn't see it?" He thought out loud.
Teagan's mouth and throat felt as dry as cotton as she continued to wait for him to go on.
"What the hell did she tell you?" Teagan finally asked, her voice low as she spoke.
"When she was 14… she took, uh… she took a few too many sleeping pills." He said.
"A few too many?" Teagan asked, sensing he still wasn't telling her the whole story.
Shaking his head he stood up from the chair and walked over to his window as he stared out into the late evening sun.
Teagan observed his tense posture and knew without a doubt he was holding something back.
"What do you mean a few too many?" she repeated.
"As in… an entire bottle of her dads prescription sleeping pills." He finally said, knowing Avery would be pissed that he was telling people that.
"Wh… what? Why? Why would she do that?" Teagan managed to ask.
"Do you really want me to answer that?" Stiles asked.
Teagan pinned her eyes shut as she shook her head.
"She never told me." Teagan finally admitted, her voice hoarse.
She knew Stiles would never make a story like that up.
"She said that she got the help she needed and she was all better." He said as he turned around to see Teagan typing on Avery's computer.
Stiles sat down on the bed beside her.
Once Teagan typed in the right password, it brought up her background which was a picture of Aspen and Annabel Lee sleeping on Teagan's bed, taken not too long after she'd gotten her kitten.
Gently taking the computer from Teagan's shaking hands Stiles got to her cellphone carrier page.
"Her phone is off, so we can't turn on the G.P.S." He breathed out.
"She keeps the G.P.S on incase she ever loses it or it gets stolen." Teagan said.
"Then we should be able to see the last tower it pinged off of." He said as he went to another page.
Sighing Teagan said, "It shows here in Beacon Hills, and that's the day her flight would have left."
Closing the computer Stiles said, "Maybe she really did shut her phone off before she got on the plane and still hasn't turned it back on?
"Probably." Teagan agreed, but now she was feeling just as uneasy as Stiles.
"Why did she do it?" Teagan asked, her voice barely over a whisper.
"She uh, she didn't really give me the details." He answered honestly.
Nodding she swallowed hard.
"I think we need to talk to Derek. She said that Derek and her dad were the only other ones who knew." He said.
"Just ride with me. I was heading over there to see Isaac." Teagan said as she sat Avery's computer down on the desk.
As the two teens headed towards the door Stiles reached behind Teagan and shut his bedroom door, when she shot him a confused look he said, "My dad doesn't want Annabel all over the house, I have to keep her in my room."
"You know if you want, I can ask my dad if I can watch her until Avery's home." Teagan offered.
Stiles shook his head back and forth.
"You're sure?" Teagan asked.
"You know, she got her the night we went on our first date." He said softly.
Teagan nodded and put a hand on his arm, "She'll be happy you're watching her."
It wasn't much later that they pulled to a stop outside of the old building that Derek's new loft was in.
"What are you doing here?" Derek asked as the two walked into his loft.
"Hey." Isaac greeted with a smile as he crossed the room and gave Teagan a quick kiss, smiling as they both pulled back.
When she still looked upset he said, "What is it?"
"I need to ask Derek something." Teagan said, her voice a little stronger than she was feeling after the day she'd had.
"What are you talking about?" Derek questioned.
"What do you know about when Avery tried to kill herself?"
Isaac's eyes widened, "Wait… she did what?"
"How do you know about that?" Derek asked, his head slightly cocked to the side.
"She is my best friend, and if you know something you need to tell me!" Teagan demanded as she took a few steps forward.
"I told her, and I know because Avery told me. She also told me only you and her dad knew about it. So what do you know?" Stiles admitted, a slightly ashamed look on his face from spilling Avery's secret.
"What's going on?" Derek asked, surveying the two distraught teenagers.
"Isn't she on vacation?" Isaac pointed out.
"Maybe." Teagan answered looking at him.
"No one has heard from her all summer, not one phone call or even a text." Stiles went on to say.
Derek shook his head as he looked down to the floor.
"Did she call you?" Stiles asked, wondering if maybe Avery had made a decision and picked Derek, and had been in contact with him.
Derek crossed the room and leaned over the table that was doubling as a desk in his sparsely furnished place.
"Have you heard from her?" Teagan asked, her voice raised.
"Let me get this straight. You're both here because you think she could have killed herself… over you." Derek said pointing to Stiles.
"Yes!" Stiles exclaimed.
"I think you need to get over yourself." Derek said with an almost amused look on his face as he looked at Stiles.
Looking between them Teagan sighed with frustration as she threw her hands up in the air.
"Is this funny to you? She could be missing." Teagan said looking at Derek.
"What are you talking about?" He demanded to know.
With irritation and a slight panic in his voice Stiles quickly said, "No one has heard from her for months, her cellphone hasn't even been on since the day she was supposed to have left town. She's missed the first day of school, I've got her cat and her computer. Something could be wrong." He finished and then took a deep breath.
Giving Stiles a slightly confused look Isaac said, "You took her cat and her computer? What's wrong with you?"
"It's a long story that we don't have time for." He said, glancing over at him.
"We need to know everything that you know." Teagan pleaded as she walked over and stood across the table from him.
Seeing how serious they looked he sighed and said, "All I know is that she took a bottle of pills on her 14th birthday. But I also know it was years ago, and I saw her a few days before she left. She might have been a little upset, but she was not suicidal. And wasn't the entire point of her vacation to get away from everyone here?"
He seemed so calm and his voice so full of reason that Stiles and Teagan exchanged looks.
"I was over at her house the night before she left, she was fine." Isaac assured Teagan as he walked over to her.
She swallowed hard as her sad eyes met his.
Reaching down he took her hand in his own, trying to give her some comfort.
"Come on, you talked to her the day she was leaving. Did you honestly sense that she was upset or anything was wrong?" Isaac asked her.
Letting out the breath she'd been holding, Teagan said, "No, she seemed like Avery. She was so excited for her summer away, that's all she wanted was away from Beacon Hills for a little while."
"See?" Isaac asked as he wrapped his arms around her and held her against him.
She smiled as he pressed a kiss to her temple.
"You know, I'm pretty sure she mentioned something about maybe missing the start of school." Teagan recalled.
Thinking back Stiles broke his silence as he nodded and said, "She told me that too."
~()~
The next morning, Isaac groaned as he rolled from one side to the other side. Even if there was a lot going wrong right now, he was thrilled that he was finally completely healed and out of the hospital.
He just hoped he could have a day to himself to rest before it was time to start searching for Erica and Boyd again.
Actually he didn't even need a full day, all he wanted was a few hours. He sniffed, catching a whiff of her scent, and smiled. Yeah, all he needed was a few hours with her; his girl.
Isaac slowly opened his eyes, a smile still on his face, as he came face to face with Teagan. Her eyes were still closed as she peacefully slept beside him.
Once her and Stiles arrived at the loft she hadn't left his side. She had lied to her dad and told him she was staying with Lydia, who luckily covered for her so she could stay with him all night.
Isaac reached forward to push a lock of hair from her face, keeping the lock of hair between his fingers, feeling the silky texture, as he continued to watch her sleep.
Moments like this is what made everything he did worth it, knowing that she was okay and knowing she was protected as she laid beside him, was all that mattered to him.
Teagan, feeling someone mess with her hair, opened her eyes and smiled when she saw him. She scooted closer to him then reached up to lay her hand on the back of his neck, twirling his hair around her fingers, as they just stared at each other, neither one having to say a word to know what the other was thinking.
Isaac leaned forward and pressed his lips against hers for a tender kiss. He rested his hand on the small of her back, pulling her closer to him, as he deepened the kiss.
He pulled back a little to look at her as he softly said, "I could really get use to this."
"Hmm?" Teagan asked, confused.
"Waking up beside you. I could get use to it." He clarified.
Teagan smiled at his words, then said, "Me too. I wished all of my mornings started like this."
Isaac nodded his head in agreement, then added,"but no matter how much I love it, shouldn't you be in school right now?"
"No." Teagan said, as she shook her head. She shot him a look, a cross between worried and angry, as she added, "No, the last time I left your side I almost lost you to alphas, again."
Isaac sighed, knowing she knew the truth now. Someone told her about the alpha pack. "So you know, huh? You know about the alpha pack?" He asked.
"Yeah, I know." Teagan answered, then added, "I also know they have Erica and Boyd, and that you, Derek and Peter have been searching for them all summer. What I don't know though is, why did you keep that from me?"
"I'm sorry." Isaac said, as he sat up in the bed and lowered his head. He hated keeping anything from her, but he just wanted to protect her. He honestly thought it wouldn't have went as far as it did.
He thought they would be able to rescue Erica and Boyd, then send the alpha pack out of town, he never thought it would take this long or be this complicated, which is what he told her.
"I get it, I do, Isaac, and I love you for that. I love that you want to protect me and keep me safe, but the best way to do that is to be honest with me. I have to know what is going on, I have to know everything so I know what we are up against." Teagan explained, as she sat up beside him.
She laid on hand on the side of his face, forcing him to look at her, as she added,"besides we are in this together remember? It's you and me, Isaac."
"It's you and me." Isaac repeated, as he nodded his head in agreement before leaning forward and kissing her.
"What's next?" Teagan asked him after the kiss, then added,"I mean how do we save Erica and Boyd?"
"I don't know." Isaac said sadly, then added, "If I can just remember where they are. I found them... or at least I think I did, but then the alpha pack took away my memories and I don't know how to get them back."
"I have a idea." Derek said suddenly, as he walked into the room, surprising the two teenagers inside.
"Jeez, Derek!" Teagan called out, as she subconsciously pulled the blanket up to cover herself even though she was wearing a long shirt of Isaac's and nothing was showing.
"How long have you been standing there?" She asked, as she looked up at Derek.
"I wasn't eavesdropping if that's what you're worried about." Derek snapped, as he folded his arms across his chest, then added, "Most of my pack is missing, that's what I'm concern about, not your teenage drama."
Isaac saw Teagan open her mouth, getting ready to snap at Derek, but before she could say anything he quickly interrupted and asked his alpha, "So what is your plan?"
Derek grabbed one of Isaac's t-shirts from the floor and tossed it over to him as he said, "Get dressed and meet me downstairs. I'll explain it all then."
Isaac nodded his head as Derek turned around to leave the room. After he walked out, Isaac slipped the shirt on over his head.
"Well, guess we know who had a huge bowl of bitch flakes this morning." Teagan jokingly whispered over to Isaac, causing him to chuckle.
"I heard that." Derek yelled back, as he continued to walk downstairs.
Teagan chuckled then stood up from the air mattress she and Isaac had been sleeping on. When Isaac first starting staying with Derek all he had to sleep on was the hard floor until she brought over a spare air mattress from her house, since then he had been sleeping on that.
She slipped on her blue jeans from the day before, but left on the shirt she borrowed from Isaac. She loved wearing his shirts as much as possible since she could always catch a whiff of his scent on it. She threw her brown hair up in a messy ponytail then followed Isaac out of the room and down the stairs to hear Derek's big plan, which she had a feeling she would not like it.
~()~
Teagan was right, she didn't like the plan and neither did Isaac, who begin to pace in front of the huge windows ever since Derek told them his crazy plan.
"You know, I'm starting not to like this idea. Sounds kinda dangerous." Isaac said, as he continued to pace.
"I'm not a big fan of it myself." Teagan added, as she leaned back against the table and watched her boyfriend pace nervously.
Isaac nodded his head, if she didn't like it then he definitely didn't. He paused for a moment, then said, speaking for himself and Teagan, "You know what? We definitely don't like this idea and we definitely don't like him."
"You'll be fine." Derek, who was sitting in a chair at the table, said trying to calm the two teenagers down.
"Does it have to be him?" Isaac questioned Derek.
Teagan turned her head to look at Derek, waiting for him to answer and hoping there was another option. There had to be someone else, anyone but him.
"He knows how to do it. I don't." Derek answered, then added, "Be more dangerous if I tried doing it myself."
Isaac stopped pacing and stood beside Teagan, he looked over at her for a moment, seeing the worried look on her face, then looked over at Derek as he said,"You know Scott doesn't trust him, right?"
Teagan nodded her head in agreement then added, "Personally I trust Scott."
Derek turned his head to look at the two, then asked, mainly to Isaac, "Do you trust me?"
"Do you really want me to answer that?" Teagan asked back.
Derek rolled his eyes at her then added, "I was asking Isaac."
Isaac looked over at Teagan, he knew she didn't have much faith in Derek.
She didn't hate him as much as she used to. She knew there was a kind side to him, she had seen it in the way he was with Avery, but she still had a hard time trusting him, especially when it came to Isaac.
Isaac on the other hand, trusted his alpha. He might not always understand why he did what he did, but for the most part he did trust him.
"Yeah." Isaac finally answered, then added, "I still don't like him."
"Nobody likes him." Derek stated.
Teagan felt Isaac slip an arm around her waist, he could tell from her posture that she was not happy about any of this. She rested her head against his shoulder, melting into his side, needing his comfort right now and hoping to give him some as well.
She knew he was just as nervous about this as she was. She glanced up at him, opening her mouth to say something to him, but before she could they heard the door slide open, causing all three of them to look over at it as Peter walked into the loft.
"Boys... beautiful lady." Peter said, as he looked at Derek, Isaac and then Teagan.
Isaac tighten his hold on Teagan, pulling her closer to him as Peter looked at her a moment longer, before continuing, "F. Y. I -Yes, coming back from the dead has left my abilities somewhat impaired, but the hearing still works. So I hope you're comfortable saying whatever it is that you're feeling straight to my face."
"We don't like you." Derek said straightforward, then he stood up and added,"now shut up and help us."
"Fair enough." Peter said with a nod, as his claws slid out.
Several minutes later, Isaac was sitting in the chair that Derek had been sitting in earlier. Derek was off to the side, sitting on top of the coffee table as Teagan stood beside him, far too nervous to sit down.
Peter, who was across the room from Isaac, begin to walk toward him as he said, "Relax. I'll get more out of you if you're calm."
"How do you know how to do this, again?" Teagan asked Peter, who was now standing behind Isaac.
"It's an ancient ritual used mostly by alphas, since it's a skill that requires quite a bit of practice. One slip, and you could paralyze someone or kill them."
The closer he got to her boyfriend, the more nervous she became and his answer didn't make her feel any better about things.
Peter, seeing the look on her face, asked, "Are you sure you want to be here for this? A hysterical female isn't going to help matters."
Teagan stood up straight and folded her arms across her chest, she wasn't going to let him chase her off. She was staying, for Isaac, which is what she told him.
Peter scoffed as he shook his head at her answer. In his opinion young love was a waste of time. Chances were she would just end up turning on the young beta.
Like Kate did to his nephew or Allison did to Scott. Or she would get caught in the middle of something and lose her life, either way a relationship between a werewolf and a human never worked out, but who was he to crush the hearts of the young birds. He wasn't that monstrous.
"You-You've had a lot of practice, though, right?" Isaac asked Peter nervously.
"Well, I've never paralyzed anyone." Peter said simply.
Teagan's eyes widen at his answer, she looked over at Isaac, seeing an identical expression on his face.
"Wait does that mean that you ..." Isaac begin to ask, but before he could finish his sentence, Peter shoved his claws into the back of his neck.
Teagan jumped in surprise and covered her mouth to keep from yelling out as she watch Isaac groan out in pain and thrashed around. The longer she watched, the more nervous she became. She went to take a step toward them, until she felt someone grab her wrist.
She looked down to see it was Derek stopping her, he was just as nervous as her, although he would never voice that concern, but he needed to keep this going a little longer. They needed to know what Isaac saw, but as it went on for a few more minutes, Derek stood up. This was going on for far too long.
Derek went to take a step toward them, when Peter said, "Wait, I see them."
Derek and Teagan paused for a moment, waiting with bated breath to see what would happened next. They didn't have to wait long when Peter pulled his claws out and collapsed on the table behind him.
As Isaac leaned forward in the chair, Teagan rushed over to him, falling to her knees beside the chair and wrapping her arms around him, wanting to make sure he was ok. He laid one of his hands on her arm, giving it a light squeeze, as he glanced over at her, letting her know he was fine.
As Peter stood up straight and took a few steps away from the table, Derek asked him, "What'd you see?"
"It was confusing. Um, im-images. Vague shapes." Peter answered, as he tried to make sense about all that he saw.
"But you saw something." Derek pointed out, he could tell by the look on his face that he saw something.
"Isaac found them." Peter stated, causing Isaac to look over at him. He had this feeling he did find them, but wasn't sure until now.
"Erica and Boyd?" Derek questioned him.
"I barely saw them. I mean, glimpses." Peter answered.
"But you did see them." Derek said, wanting to know exactly what who he saw.
"Worse." Peter said.
"What can worse?" Teagan asked, fearing what the answer might be.
"Deucalion." Derek answered, as he sat back down.
"He was talking to them. Something about time running out." Peter said.
"What does that mean?" Isaac asked, as he looked over at Derek and subconsciously reached out to grab Teagan's hand, holding on to her tightly.
"He's gonna kill them." Derek answered with a sigh.
"No, no, no, no, no, he didn't say that. He did make them a promise that by the full moon that they'd both be dead." Peter explained.
"The next full moon?" Derek asked.
"Tomorrow night." Peter answered.
Teagan and Isaac looked at each other with a worried expression before they both looked over at Derek, wondering what his next plan was. But before either one could ask, Peter spoke up, causing them all to look over at him.
"And there was more." Peter said to them.
"What?" Derek asked.
"I heard Deucalion talking to Erica, or I'm assuming it was her cause I saw a flash of blonde, but he told her soon she was going to have a decision to make." Peter explained.
"A decision? What kind of decision?" Isaac asked, worried about pack mate.
"Does he want her to join the alpha pack or something?" Teagan added with a confused expression.
"I don't know." Peter answered.
"It doesn't make sense." Derek said. He couldn't figure out why an alpha in an alpha pack would want with a beta.
Teagan nodded her head in agreement. It didn't make sense, nothing made sense and they were quickly running out of time. They needed a plan to save them and fast.
A/N – I'm so sorry for it taking so long to get this chapter updated. There were some things I needed to fix and for some reason, taking the time to fix the errors was the last thing on this earth I wanted to do.
I hope you're all still reading and that you enjoyed the chapter. It won't be long now before I get the next chapter uploaded as well.
