Ari
I watched in horror as the machine devoured Lupo in one gulp. The fading sun glinted off the silver metal that was it's body as it flipped back into the ocean. Faintly, somewhere in the back of my mind, I registered the splashing of waves as Iggy swam, Max crying out for Lupo, and then almost robotically, I began to swim. I don't remember it ever being my olympic sport, but I booked it. My arms sliced through the cool water and my legs kicked furiously. My inner-eraser threatened to snap at the mere thought of Lupo being taken away from me, or even from this life.
The emotional damage from seeing that, after just getting her back not that long ago, was enough to make tears stream down my face as I swam faster. This couldn't be happening. Not here. Not now. I wished I would've gotten the chance to save Lupo, but I didn't.
Within seconds the metallic smell met my nostrils and I knew. I knew even before its sharp teeth skinned over my back and chest, even before its mouth snapped shut, closing me into a cage of darkness, even before it began to swim away with me, taking me to who knows where. I knew I was going too.
Which is why I didn't put up the fight I should have, why I didn't go out kicking and screaming. This was my only chance to save Lupo, and if it meant being stuck in a robotic shark for hours, or even days, I was going to do it. Whatever it took.
As the fish sank deeper and deeper, my ears popped painfully, causing me to wish I had been at least knocked out. Reading my mind, a scentless purple gas began to fill up the shark-cage I was in.
I coughed and sputtered, choking on air before feeling my body relax, my eyes close away the darkness that surrounded me, and my brain shut down.

When I woke up, I was met by the sharp smell of antiseptic and death. White walls glared at me while a cool white tile floor rested under me. I blinked to adjust my eyes to the severely bright lights above me before slowly sitting up, an aching pain in my back from sleeping on tile for however long I've been out. The cool air sent chills down my spine as I got to my feet and looked around.
The first thing I noticed was Lupo, sleeping not so far away from where I was, shivering slightly in her sleep. If she didn't look so beautiful with her dirty blonde hair fanned over her face like that I might've woken her up, but I decided against it.
Upon further inspection I found a blanket folded up by the outline of a door and quickly shook it open, tossing it over her sleeping form before beginning to pace. "We must be at the School," I mumbled, the chemicals overwhelming my amazing sense of smell as I looked around. "I wonder if Fang's here too?" I asked myself, pausing mid-step to look at the outline of the door thoughtfully.
"Hey... uh, what happened?" I heard Lupo asked and spun around, watching as she stood, kicking the blanket aside. Without waiting for an answer she immediately walked up to the door, almost casually, as if she couldn't tell where were.
"We're in the school!" I snapped bitterly, "Or at least, one of them! We need to get out!" I couldn't explain my panic, it was just something that always happened when I got caught.
"Calm down, let's just look around for any gives in the structure and go from there," She said, glancing at me once before pushing on the door.
"Gives?" I laughed humorlessly. "What is wrong with you, Lupo!? Do you not understand?" I spun her around and shook her shoulders roughly. "We are in a place that experiments on innocent children and enjoys watching them beg!" Lupo shoved me off of her, rolling her eyes in annoyance.
"I understand that, I'm just not gonna freak out yet like you. You should get some pills for that," She shrugged and put her ear to the door, knocking on it once while all I could was stare at her in utter shock, my jaw on the floor. "Well, are you gonna help, or just stare at me like I have two heads?" She asked, the irritation dripping from her words.
My jaw snapped shut and I started walking around the room, knocking on the walls to find a hollow point and checking the floor for any trapdoors. Twenty minutes later of thorough inspection and neither of us found anything. "Can I panic now?" I exclaimed, turning to her.
"Well you can, but it'd be a waste of energy," She mumbled, sitting down and wrapping the blanket around her like a cape.
"What are you talking about?" I growled, crossing my arms over my chest.
"They're gonna open that door eventually, Ari. And when they do you should at least be able to do a roundhouse kick without dropping to the ground from weakness." She explained simply. I blinked. I always came up with the plans. This was not her place to overthrow me. I wanted to bark at her, but instead I sat down next to her, throwing half of the blanket over me. She raised an eyebrow and I just shrugged.
"I get cold too you know, there's no pills for that," I muttered and she just rolled her eyes.
"Baby."

I had fallen asleep to nightmares last night. All I dreamt was Max being in my place and her and Lupo being stuck down here. I didn't have the girl I loved, or my sister. Just Iggy. It was horrible, watching the mechanical sharks take the two people that were my everything away at the snap of my fingers, but then I woke up. And I realized Max was safe with Iggy, or maybe not. Had they gotten her too?
The familiar adrenaline rush that came with panic swelled up inside me as I jumped to my feet, startling a famished-looking Lupo awake. Her head banged into the wall since she had been leaning on my shoulder and she groaned, rubbing the back of her head. "Jesus, R,"
"What if they have Max? What if they have Iggy? What if we never escape? What if Fang's here? What if-" Questions shot out of my mouth left and right, me being unable to control them. It was like my mouth had a mind of its own.
"Whoa, calm down. Again with the pill thing. Look, if they have Max and Iggy then we gotta get them out," Even though Lupo was trying to act like Alpha dog I could see the sudden worry in her eyes about Iggy at least. "Fang probably is here, will have to find him before we leave, and trust me, we're getting out of this, or I'm not Lupo Greyback."
"Maybe you're not. Maybe you're a clone!" I accused.
"Now you've really lost it," Lupo muttered, standing up.
"Well if you're the real deal, what's Iggy's nickname for you?" I demanded
"I don't need to prove myself to you!" She growled, shoving me. Well, me being me, shoved her back.
"Just answer the question." I snapped, and either she was too restless to fight me, or just afraid she would really hurt me (As if) and groaned, answering.
"Froot Loop, am I cleared?" She asked sarcastically, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Yeah," I mumbled, realizing what I just accused Lupo of. "I'm sorry, I just... Lack of food I guess."
"I guess it's okay, this is the school. It wouldn't surprise me if they did throw a clone me in here."
"How come you're not questioning me?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Are you serious? Nobody could clone you Ari, You're special." She told me, sincerness in her words.
"Really?" I asked, feeling my heart skip a beat.
"The bad kind, Ari," She added and I felt myself deflate, feeling defeated.
"Whatever," I growled out, storming off to the opposite side of the room and sitting down, huffing. Amusement lit up Lupo's features as she watched, and I think I even heard her chuckle.
"Aw, did I hurt lil' Ari's ego?" She asked as if speaking to a two year old.
"Puh-lease. Why would I let someone lower than me hurt my ego?" I shot back. She stiffened slightly, as if me demoting her was a real hit, and didn't say anything, just leaned against the wall, glaring at me. If looks could kill...

Lupo thought I was asleep. She must have. I've never seen her freak out so badly in front of people. She shoved hard on the door, paced, pulled at her hair, mumbled to herself. It was as if these walls were eating her alive and she couldn't do anything about it. And that killed her. I knew it did. I watched for awhile as she tormented herself before finally drifting off, deciding she needed these few sacred moments she had alone.

The next morning, or what I thought was morning anyways, I woke up to find her snuggled into the dark red blanket, looking as peaceful as ever as she breathed in and out. It was my own kind of torture to see her like this, to know how bad this was eating her up, to not be able to do anything about it.
I watched as she blinked her eyes open and sent me a small smile as she sat up. "Hey, I see you haven't broken us out of here yet," She joked and I grinned weakly.
"Nope, still stuck in chains and shackles," I told her. Suddenly, a quiet buzzing sound awoke my senses to their fullest considering all I had heard was Lupo's and my own voice for the past few days. I looked behind me just in time to watch the door slide open.
I don't own MR
