Chapter Thirteen - Not All Fun and Games

~ A Teen Wolf fanfiction collaboration between Miss E Charlotte and Sage Londyn.~

Teagan walked through the front door of the school building and carefully made her way down the hall way and toward her locker, trying her best not to bump into anyone, the slightest touch made her want to crumble on the floor and cry out in pain.

Even if she didn't have any broken ribs, which was lucky considering how bad the fall was, she was still in a lot of pain. Just that morning she almost cried when she saw the huge black and blue bruise on her side when she got dressed. It was the worst looking bruise she had ever had in her life, and that included all the times she fell on the ice during the brief time she and Avery took up ice skating when they were younger.

Allison had suggested she wrap an ace bandage around herself to help protect herself from any sudden jabs at her side during school, but the added padding didn't help much when she placed her book bag on her shoulder right as someone accidentally hit it, causing it to swing toward her and slam into her side.

She came to a sudden stop, laying her hands on her side, as she bent forward and bit her bottom lip to keep from crying out in pain.

"Teagan!" Avery called out, seeing her best friend in pain. She rushed over to her, grabbed her book bag and books, which had fallen to the floor, as she said, "What are you doing? I told you to meet me in the parking lot this morning so I can carry your stuff. You shouldn't be carrying them while you are still in so much pain."

"I'm not a weak damsel in distress, A. Thank you, but I don't need any babying. I can do it." Teagan said through a pained breath. She reached out to grab her stuff from Avery's hand, then said, "Besides, if you carry my stuff, people will start noticing that and wonder if we're dating or something."

"Maybe we are." Avery joked. "Who knows what goes on behind closed doors." She added with a wink.

Teagan laughed at her comment, as she placed her book bag on her shoulder again, and hissed out when it hit her side again. She took the book bag off and held it out to Avery, as she said, "Well in that case, carry my bag, girlfriend."

"Oh please, I would so be the guy in our relationship." Avery said with a laugh, as she placed Teagan's book bag on her shoulder. She held out her other arm, waiting for Teagan to link her arm with hers, then added, "And you would be my little woman."

"Wow. I am started to think you have actually thought about this, A." Teagan joked, as the two friends began to walk down the hall toward Teagan's locker.

"Maybe I have." Avery joked. She came to a stop in front of the locker, then added, "Tell Isaac to watch his back, he might have some competition one day."

"I'll be sure to tell Isaac that." Teagan said with a laugh, as she opened her locker door and began to change out books.

"Tell me what?" Isaac questioned, as he walked up behind the two girls with Boyd.

"Avery is going to steal me away from you." Teagan answered, as she looked over at her boyfriend with a smile on her face.

"Is that so?" Isaac joked, as he looked over at Avery.

"Mm-hm." Avery said with a nod, then pointed a finger at him, as she narrowed her eyes at him and jokingly said, "Better watch your back, Lahey. She will be mine."

"Not happening. I'm not losing my girl." Isaac said, as he kissed the side of Teagan's head, causing her to smile over at him, then laughed, as he continued, "I will fight you to the death, Dukate."

"And that is my cue to leave." Boyd mumbled, as he shook his head at their antics before turning around to walk away.

He had only taken a few steps, when Isaac called out, "I'll meet up with you in a minute, then we'll leave."

"Leave? What do you mean? Where are you going?" Teagan asked her boyfriend with a surprised look on her face.

"Yeah, you two have serious faces going on right now. What's up?" Avery added, as she turned her attention to Isaac like Teagan did.

Isaac glanced around, making sure no one was around that could over hear, especially one of the twins, then he leaned toward them as he said, "Boyd has a plan to help Derek against the alpha pack."

"Seriously?" Avery asked with a hopeful look on her face. It had been a few days since they found out Ennis was dead and the pack would be coming after Derek. They had all been racking their brains, hoping to come up with a plan before they made their attack.

Isaac nodded his head then said, "Back when Gerard had him and Erica, he was using electric current to keep them from transforming. So Boyd has the idea of doing that, on a larger scale. We're going to flood the loft with water and run a live electric current through it. Anyone who steps foot in the water will get a shocking surprise."

"That ... actually ... might work." Avery said with a smile, glad they at least had a plan to hopefully stop the alpha pack.

"Yeah, this plan is amazing." Teagan agreed, as she turned to face Isaac, like Avery she now has a smile on her face as well. "So what do we do now?" She questioned him, neither one seeing Avery walk off to go talk to Boyd.

"We are not doing anything." Isaac said, as he gestured at her and himself, before adding, "You've got to let me and Boyd handle this. If something goes wrong with this plan, I can't have you there. I know you and Avery want to help, but neither one of you can get involved."

"But ..."

"No." Isaac said, interrupting her. He laid his hands on either side of her face, then continued, "Please babe, please, stay away from this."

Teagan looked into his eyes, seeing how serious he was about this, how much it scared him if she was involved. If something were to happen to her, she knew he would never recover from that.

She finally nodded her head, agreeing with him, as she whispered out, "Okay."

Isaac smiled at hearing her say that, then leaned forward to softly kiss her lips. He pulled back for a moment, then said, "I know it's hard, but just stay here at school, okay? Or you can go visit Danny or something."

Teagan nodded her head, then said, "Yeah I called this morning to check on him. I told him I would try to come by and see him after school."

Neither one knew how he ingested mistletoe or why, but she was definitely worried about her friend.

"That's good. Just whatever keeps you away from the loft." Isaac pointed out.

"Do we have any clues on who the next 'healer' will be?" Teagan asked. She knew two other doctors had been taken, one found dead and the other still missing. There needed to be one more for the next sacrifice. Isaac had even helped Scott keep an eye on his mom the night before to make sure she wasn't the next victim.

"No." Isaac said, as he shook his head. He opened his mouth to say more until he caught a whiff of something, the scent of another werewolf.

"What's wrong?" Teagan asked him, when she saw the look on his face.

Isaac glanced over his shoulders and narrowed his eyes when he saw Ethan walking over toward them. Ethan ignored Isaac completely, as he stopped in front of Teagan, then said, "We need to talk."

"She doesn't want to talk to you." Isaac stated, as he took a step forward to shield Teagan.

"I wasn't asking you." Ethan said back, as he looked over at Isaac for the first time.

"Yeah, well, I am telling you." Isaac said, as he folded his arms across his chest.

"Another time then." Ethan said, as he looked over Isaac's shoulder to speak to Teagan.

He turned to walk away until Isaac lashed out and grabbed his arm, stopping him. "There's not going to be another time."

"You really want to do this?" Ethan questioned him, as his eyes flashed red for a moment.

"Yeah, I do. I don't care if you are an alpha or not. If you or your brother ever touch her again, I will kill you." Isaac threatened.

"Isaac." Teagan softly said, as she laid a hand on his shoulder to calm him down. While holding on to Ethan's arm, she saw his claw slide out and knew it was only a matter of time before he wolfed out completely, which was the last thing they needed. Plus as much as she loved that he was trying to protect her, she did not want him going up against any of the alpha pack members.

Isaac felt his anger slipping away slightly when he heard her voice. He released Ethan's arm, then took a deep breath, getting better control of his emotions, before leaving him with one final statement, "Stay the hell away from Teagan."

Ethan didn't say anything, just threw his hands up, as if to say he was giving up and walking away, which he was for now, but he would be back later. At a time when her beta bodyguard wasn't around.

"You probably shouldn't have done that." Teagan softly said, once he was gone. "The last thing we need is to piss off the pack even more, give them more reasons to come after us." She added, as she folded her arms across her chest.

"I don't care." Isaac said back, as he turned around to face her.

"I do." Teagan stated. She wrapped her arms around his neck, then added, "I need you to be careful. Not only just today, but every day and especially around them. I need you to come back to me, Isaac. Unharmed and alive."

"I will. I will." Isaac promised, as he gave her a sweet kiss before pulling away. He called out to Boyd, telling him it was time, then gave Teagan one more kiss, before he and his pack mate walked down the hall.

Teagan looked down the hall at Avery, a worried look on both of their faces, as they hoped the planned worked and all of them came back alive.

~()~

Seeing Boyd down the hall at his locker, Avery glanced back to where Isaac and Teagan were talking quietly to each other.

"Boyd, hey!" she yelled as she jogged down the hallway.

"Hey." He greeted back with a smile.

"I just overheard Isaac saying you guys we're going to help Derek." She said as she stared at him with wide eyes.

Boyd looked past her to where Isaac and Teagan were.

"I was going to tell you." He assured her.

"When?" she demanded to know.

With a small smile he admitted, "After the fact."

She put her hands on her hips and cocked her head to the side with a jolt of attitude in her voice as she asked, "Why were you going to wait?"

He glanced down to the duffle bag on the floor and thought to himself how he could barely believe after so many years of being invisible and eating lunch every single day by himself, that now he was friends with Avery.

All it took was summer of being held locked and held captive in a bank all summer with the blond.

"Because something told me you might interfere."

Sighing she said, "I'm not going to interfere."

"Really?" Boyd asked surprised at her.

"Yeah, just let me drop my bag off at my locker and we'll go." She said as she started to walked past him.

But he quickly put an arm out and stopped her, "You're not coming."

"But this is Derek we're talking about, and Teagan told me how Ethan said either Derek joins the pack or he's killed." Her heart raced as she repeated the terrifying words.

"There is no way you're coming us… it's too dangerous and if we show up with you, Derek will make us leave." Boyd reminded her. He knew Derek didn't want her put in anymore danger than what she was already in.

"You don't understand." Avery protested stubbornly, but her cut her off.

"I do. I get it, Avery. But if Isaac and I show up with you, Derek isn't even going to hear the plan out." He tried again to get her to listen to him.

"So what am I supposed to do? Just go and sit through my classes while you're trying to electrocute the alpha pack?" She complained with a heavy sigh.

He nodded, "We're friends, right?"

"Of course."

"And you trust me?"

"Yes."

"Then just let us handle this. We all need to be focused and Derek can't focus with you there, because his first concern will be for you." He glanced over to Isaac and Teagan and continued, "Which is exactly why Teagan can't go either, we all need to be focused."

He saw her take in a shuddering breath and blink rapidly as she tried to hold in her tears.

"Look, I know it's not some Avery Dukate mastermind idea or anything but…" he began, but she cut him off as she brushed a mascara laced tear from her pink cheeks.

"Are you kidding? Boyd, this idea… it's brilliant." She assured him, as she tried to remain calm.

The first bell ran and she glanced over her shoulder to see Teagan and Isaac kissing as she said bye to each other.

"Call me as soon as you can… I don't even care if I get detention, I'm keeping my phone on. And please… be careful." She pleaded as another tear slipped down her cheeks.

Picking up the duffle bag from the floor he said, "We're going to do everything we can to protect him."

Smiling at his words and confidence she nudged him and said, "I don't just mean for Derek. I meant you need to be careful too."

"I'll call you as soon we're in the clear." He assured her, but before he could walk away, she stepped forward and hugged him.

"Boyd, you ready?" Isaac called from the down the hallway.

Stepping back from the friendly embrace, Boyd nodded and said goodbye to Avery again.

As Avery turned she gave Isaac a wave and watched as the betas left the school together.

~()~

"Are you okay?" Avery quietly asked as she looked over to where Teagan was walking beside her, clutching her Chemistry book to her chest.

When her best friend didn't respond she nudged her, immediately regretting the decision when Teagan abruptly stopped with a pained gasp.

"I'm so sorry… I forgot about your side." She apologized, a new wave of guilt hitting her for their training session with Allison before the start of the school day.

"It's okay." Teagan breathed heavily through the pain then said, "I'm really just worried about Isaac."

"I know." Avery whispered as she stepped in front to face her.

Teagan felt her eyes starting to burn from tears as she whispered back, "He's a werewolf, but no match for a pack of alphas…"

"Neither is just one alpha against a pack of them."

"I know you're worried too, A." Teagan sympathized.

After taking a deep breath she started to tell Avery about how they're group had made it out of some pretty rough situations before but her voice trailed off when she noticed Avery wasn't listening.

"A?"

"I think I just saw Cora…" Avery said as she stared past Teagan to where she was sure she'd seen her.

"Derek's sister?" Teagan called as she followed Avery down the hallway.

Before she could answer her a loud ringing sounded through the school when the fire alarm went off.

"What's going on?" Teagan wondered outloud.

"Probably just drill, or some idiot trying to smoke in the bathroom again." Avery answered as she saw Cora walk into Coach Finstock's office.

Avery came to a stop wondering what Cora was even doing there.

"We can get into the office through the locker room." Teagan offered a solution.

Nodding Avery followed her into the locker room, just in time to hear Lydia say, "Sweetheart, my last boyfriend was a homicidal lizard. I think I can handle a werewolf."

Once they got into the doorway, they saw Cora roughly grab onto Lydia's wrist.

"Let go." Lydia ordered as she tried to pull away but Cora being a werewolf, was much stronger than she was.

"I said…" Lydia began to say but Avery walked up and grabbed onto Cora's arm as she finished her friend's statement, "Let go."

Keeping her hold on Lydia, she faced Avery and said, "You know what she was just doing right? Making out with Aiden!"

Avery nodded.

"Do you not remember being held in the bank all summer. The alphas almost killed Derek." She reminded her.

"There are better ways to go about warning someone that they're literally, sleeping with the enemy. "Avery responded as she shot a disapproving look to Lydia.

Cora let go and Teagan chimed in, "You'll catch more flies with a spoonful of honey than a gallon of vinegar."

The beta wolf's gaze snapped to where Teagan was standing as she shot her an unamused look.

Teagan adjusted her school books in her arms and stared back at Derek's younger sister. She hadn't had much interaction with her and wasn't sure how to even speak to her.

"She just doesn't play well with others." Avery said with a half smile at her best friend.

Lydia moved behind Avery to go stand next to Teagan, away from Cora who only moments prior had threatened to rip her tongue out.

"There you are!" Stiles exclaimed as he burst through the door to the coach's office his gaze focused on Lydia.

"What?" she asked confused.

Then Stiles looked around at the other three teenage girls and asked, "What are you all doing in here?"

"What are you doing in here?" Teagan turned the line of questioning back to him.

After a pause he filled them in on the fact that Scott's boss, Dr. Deaton had been taken, the same way that the others had disappeared before they're bodies were found.

"Oh my god." She exclaimed as she looked over to where Avery looked just was worried as she did.

"But, I have a plan. I just need Lydia's help." He said, not giving anyone the chance to answer as he started to pull Lydia from the room with him.

He led them to the empty chemistry classroom, and instructed Lydia to sit down at the table.

Still watching her with a judgmental eye, Cora sat down beside her as Teagan took a seat across the table and Avery walked over to look out of the windows.

"What's your plan?" Teagan questioned as she saw Stiles pulling something from a shopping bag.

Seconds later he proudly displayed a new Ouija board.

"An Oijua board? Really, did Avery talk you into this?" Lydia asked as she flipped her hair over her shoulder.

"What? No… why?" Stiles questioned as he started to take the lid off the box.

"Because every weekend for like 6 months straight, the three of us used one these at Avery's house." Lydia filled them in.

Teagan smiled at the memories of growing up with her two best friends and Avery crossed her arms over her chest.

"Because my house was haunted." She asserted, causing Teagan to avoid her eyes as she tried to hold back a laugh.

"Your house was not haunted." Lydia argued.

"How would you know, you didn't live there." Avery argued back.

"For those 6 months, yeah. Teagan and I both practically did."

Teagan nodded in agreement, remembering when Avery refused to let either of them go home because she was sure there was a ghost in her house.

"Well, did the spirit board work?" Stiles questioned them.

Teagan shrugged.

Avery said, "Yes." At the same time Lydia asserted, "No."

Cora looked between all of them and then back to Avery, thinking how different she seemed now that they were out of the bank.

Raising her eyebrows in irritation Avery said, "It worked."

Sighing and glancing up to the ceiling, appearing to be giving her answer some thought Lydia then said, "No."

Avery opened her mouth to argue again but Teagan cut them off, "These Ouija boards just kinda creep me out."

"I've never used one." Cora said, looking at Teagan with a slightly friendlier expression than she'd been giving her moments before.

As he set the eyelet on the board he looked at Lydia and said, "Just try it please, it's worth a shot."

"A shot in the dark."

"Just try it! Let's not forget who this is for. Scott's boss, the guy who has saved our collective asses on more than one occasion." Stiles reminded them.

"Okay, so do we all do this?" Cora questioned, adjusting on the stool.

Stiles looked to Avery for an answer, "Yeah, the more people who participate the more energy it gives the spirits to communicate."

Lydia let out another disbelieving sigh as she said, "Everyone accept for Avery, she likes to move it to scare people."

"I do not!"

"It's okay." Teagan said, looking to Avery as she said, "I'm not doing it either… like I said, creeps me out."

Teagan got up to stand next to Avery, as Stiles took her now empty seat. The two friends stood side by side and watched as Stiles, Lydia and Cora tried to make contact with the other side.

When no one else spoke stiles asked out loud, "Where is Dr. Deaton?"

No response.

When she noticed both of them were staring at her Lydia's eyes widened, "What?"

Nodding to the board Stiles said, "Aren't you going to answer?"

"Oh, I don't know the answer. I thought we were asking some sort of spirit."

Stiles' eye twitched in irritation. All he wanted to do was help find Scott's boss, and Lydia wasn't making it easy on him.

"Well, do you know any spirits?" Cora asked, her eyes on Lydia who looked extremely amused by the question.

Pointing a perfectly manicured finger at her, Lydia asked the rest of the group, "Is she for real?"

Cora sat back and rolled her eyes.

When Avery's phone started to ring from her jacket pocket she looked at it, shooting Teagan a look as she announced, "I'll be right back."

"Me too." Teagan called over her shoulder as she followed her out, she'd seen Derek's name came up on her best friends phone.

Once they were in the hallway Avery stared down to the phone in her hand.

"Answer it!" Teagan exclaimed, hoping it was good news.

"Maybe you should answer it." Avery said holding the phone out.

"Why? I'm not even really friends with him." She said taking a step back.

"I don't know if I want to talk to him… we haven't talked since my moment of weakness." She quietly answered, referring to the day she'd managed to save Derek's like and then ended up sleeping with him.

"A!" Teagan exclaimed as she reached for the phone but just as she answered it, the call went to voicemail.

When she saw Teagan look up at her, Avery offered a small shrug.

"What is wrong with you?" Teagan asked her friend, with a shocked expression.

"I just… I shouldn't have slept with him…" She sighed rubbing her forehead.

"Call him back!" She urged her.

Avery sighed and turned, her dark purple high heels tapping on the floor with every step as she neared the closest exit.

Once they were outside Avery took her time dialing his number on her phone, until she finally put the phone on speaker.

"Why didn't you answer?" Derek questioned as he answered the call.

Teagan looked at Avery as she said, "Sorry about that… didn't get my phone out in time." Then quickly added in, "You're on speaker and Teagan is here."

Before Derek could say anything else, Teagan asked, "Derek?"

"Teagan."

"Is Isaac…" she started to asked but didn't even have to finish the question.

"Isaac's fine."

Breathing a sigh of relief she nodded in thanks as if he could see her, before announcing loudly. "Well, I'd better get going. See you later Avery."

As Avery looked at her in disbelief, Teagan shot her an innocent smile and whispered, "I need to stop by the restroom anyways."

Once she was gone Avery stared down to the phone in her hand in silence.

"Avery?" She heard Derek ask.

Clicking the call off of speaker she put it to her ear and said, "Yeah, I'm still here."

"Where are you?" He pushed for an answer.

"At school."

"Then why do I hear cars?"

She looked over to the road and admitted, "I came outside to call you back… why?"

"Because I know Boyd told you what was happening today, and I wanted to make sure you're staying far away. We've got this covered."

Swallowing hard she said, "I should be there."

"It's too dangerous." He reminded her.

Looking behind her to the school she said, "It's stupid, how I am supposed to and sit through class while there's a pack of alphas who now want my friends dead? I could help."

"You're exactly where you need to be. Where I want you to be."

She closed her eyes and thought of how she'd recently almost lost him, her chin quivered and she moved tilted the phone out away from her mouth, in hopes that he couldn't hear the shaky breath she'd taken in.

"I have to go." He said as he looked up to see Boyd and Isaac coming back into the room, carefully avoiding the flooded floor.

"Derek…"

When she didn't continue he questioned, "Yeah."

Taking a deep breath and realizing this may be the last time she ever got to talk to him she fought for a breath and said, "I just –I just need you to know…" she paused and breathed, "Or I just need to say it, I don't know which one. But, no matter what happens today, I'm really proud of how far you've came. And… even though we're not together anymore, I still care about you and I need you be careful today."

As she started to pull the phone away from her ear she heard him say, "I never stopped."

A few tears slid down her phone and she ended the call and tried to put her phone back in her pocket but missed and it fell with a crash to the ground.

"That's so sweet… for your sake, let's hope he feels the same."

Avery jerked up form picking her phone back up and stared at Aiden, who was smirking at her.

A small part of her was happy he was there, one less alpha for Derek and his remaining pack members to try and take on.

"Aren't you late for class?" She snapped, her watery eyes narrowed at him.

"Aren't you?" He retorted.

"Actually yeah…" she said as she tried to make a break for the entrance to the school but he grabbed her arm bringing her to a stop.

"Let go of me." She yelled as she jerked her arm away from him. But instead of running for the safety of the school she brought her arm back hard, a smile on her lips when it collided with his chest hard enough she could hear bone crack.

For a few moments she wasn't sure whether it was his bones or her own, but once she was able to move her arm she figured it was his.

He took a few stumbling steps backwards holding onto his chest, surprised at the strength she'd gained since his brother and he had taken her from the airport.

Just as she reached the building, he roughly grabbed her spinning her around as he put a clawed hand to her throat.

Her heart raced wildly in her chest. Was he just there to scare her, did he come to kill her?

Fearfully she whimpered and tried to squirm out of his grip as she clutched onto his wrist and he started to raise her up the wall by her neck.

Each second it got harder and harder to breath, until taking any air it was impossible.

Her feet franticly kicked inches above the ground, until everything went black.
