Ari
An unfamiliar man stood in the doorway, a frown etched onto his features, and a lab coat around his body. "Hello experiments." He said in a monotone voice as I stared at him. Lupo stirred and slowly sat up, looking towards the man that stood in the way of our freedom.
"Hello Wackjob," I answered icily, taking a step towards him; ready to pounce even in my half-alive state.
"Oh I wouldn't do that if I were you. This whole room is wired and with one press of a button I can fry both you and your… mate." The man warned, grabbing a remote control from his pocket and waving it at me before putting it back in its place.
"Mate?" I asked out loud, that being the only thing I got out of what he said.
"Yes, Mate. You two are mates. However, seeing as your IQ is such a small number I guess it would be hard for you to comprehend such a complicated subject," The man spoke sarcastically. "Anyways, I'm here to let you know you have twenty-four more hours to begin the reproduction process or we'll take matters into our own hands." He explained. With that, he stepped out of the doorway and closed the door, leaving me to stand there in shock.
"Please tell me that was some sick joke," I mumbled to myself, though I knew it wasn't. I took a breath and tried to think, wondering how Lupo was reacting to this, yet unable to turn around and face her at the moment. I mean, who just walks in and drops a bomb like that on you? How much more blunt could you be? I sighed, thinking about that last part of his sentence. Unfortunately, that was the part I understood the best. We'll take matters into our own hands, I shuddered at the mere thought. Finally, I turned around to face Lupo, and stared at her for a moment, waiting for her to say something.
"Well," she took a breath, "let's get to it." She said, hardly missing a beat.
"I'm sorry, did I hear you wrong?" I rasped out, choking on my own spit.
"What? Do you not know how to do it?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. I knew it was a joke, that she was just trying to lighten the mood, but I was still a little offended.
"Yes, I have a basic understanding," I snapped, crossing my arms over my chest and hoping I wasn't blushing like I thought I was.
"Well then, let's get to it," Lupo repeated, sounding completely robotic. It was as if she just didn't care anymore about anything.
"You do realize you're about to willingly cheat on your boyfriend with me. Again." I reminded, hoping that would knock some sense into Lupo.
"It's not like any emotions have to be involved, and we'll deal with Iggy later. If this is going to happen, we're just going to need to get it done." Lupo shrugged, brushing the thought off like a speck of dirt on her shirt, but her tone had taken on a more solemn note.
"Did you get hit on the head or something?" I asked in a shaky voice.
"What's the big deal?" Lupo asked, sounding genuinely confused as to why I was so against this. I guess most guys would melt at her feet by this point, but I just couldn't. Sure I was pretty much in love with Lupo, but the feeling wasn't mutual. And I didn't want to do this if she didn't love me too.
"The big deal is you're in a relationship! And it wouldn't be fear to me or you!" I added, my voice raising to a shout. I couldn't help it. How could Lupo be so calm about this?
"Bull, how?" She asked, and I just blinked at her. She really could care less that this was about to do down. Did she honestly think it was as simple as that?
"Well," I think for a moment, I hadn't actually planned for the 'how' part to come into this argument. "well because it should be Iggy, not me!" I reasoned lamely.
"That's not the option here, is it?" She shrugged as if this didn't have any affect on her; which at this point, I'm guessing it didn't.
"No! I'm not..! We're not...! this isn't happening! I am not letting it! I refuse! This is insane. Iggy's gonna kill me and Max is never gonna let me live it down, and I'm a FUGITIVE! Well, actually the cops have no clue who I am but still! I couldn't have a kid, let alone raise one! And we have to break out anyways and-" I rambled on, trying to convince Lupo to agree with me.
"Max is going to have a baby, and her situation is a hundred times worse than ours," Lupo pointed out, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning back against the wall; standing their with a clean slate for a face. If she did have any feelings on the topic, she wasn't giving them away.
"Yeah, but she can handle it! Max can handle anything. I… I can't- wait. Why do you want this to happen so badly?" I asked suddenly, thinking maybe if I turned this on her she'd have to give me something.
"Because it's going to happen, one way or another," She scoffed. Well, there went that plan.
"No it's not! Because I'm not doing this!" I yelled, feeling myself shaking violently.
"Ari, how long were you stuck in the school at the hands of these people?" Lupo asked, uncrossing her arms and stepping towards me.
"Too long," I mumbled, looking down at the white tile floor.
"Then you know what they do, Ari," Lupo said, her voice more firm and demanding than before. We'll take matters into our own hands. I gulped, just at the thought at what they would do, but pushed the fear into a corner and locked it up.
"Yeah, they scar children for life," I muttered, playing dumb. I knew what Lupo was talking about, but maybe if I avoided it she'd dropped the subject.
"No Ari. You know what they do when you don't follow their orders," Lupo insisted, taking another warning step towards me.
"Kill them?" I guessed weakly, though I knew that was the wrong answer.
"No Ari. You know. Stop playing the dumbass," Lupo growled, and I sighed.
"Let's just get to work on an escape plan," I turned away from her, hoping she'd just drop it.
"I'm not getting raped," Lupo said bluntly, causing me to spin around.
"Who says they're gonna chip me?" I snapped, finally getting to the point.
"Because that's what they do. They'll probably try to chip both of us, but they don't work on me." She said emotionlessly.
"Well aren't you special?" I snarled, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Yeah, because I so asked for it," She snorted. "I wish I could be chipped. Then I wouldn't remember anything." At that, something broke inside me and I let my arms dangle back to my sides, letting that slap in the face sink in. Lupo must have noticed my sudden change in demeanor because she added; "But it doesn't have to be like that," in a sweeter, convincing tone.
"I don't want to do this, Iggy's gonna kill me," I said, though Lupo had already won.
"He wo-" She started, but then cut herself off. "Well he might try, but I won't let him." Lupo insisted, resting a hand on my shoulder. "Look, let's just get this over with, alright?"
I sighed and nodded. "Okay." I mumbled. With that, Lupo leaned in and kissed me. And as much as I tried to shove all the emotions I felt for her down. I couldn't.
If you haven't taken a wild guess as to why I just suddenly stopped updating. It's because of school. Blame my AP classes who think I don't have a life. Anyways, chapter 30! WOO! I'd ask for 30 reviews but I doubt that's going to happen so,
