Mostly because I am entertained by this storyline (and I seem to like drawing things out) this one will most likely be multiparts, too. Also, I am sorry this is short (I would promise the next chapter will be longer, but it seems every time I do the chapters, in fact, are shorter. So...)
Anyway, thanks to everyone who reviewed, alerted, and/or favorited last chapter. I really appreciate the support and I am glad you guys/gals are enjoying this.
So, thanks for reading, drop me a comment if you can, and I don't own 'em (also I think I need to sit through the series again, and probably will after I finish up Game of Thrones).
Kay bye!
"Let's not panic," Gwaine said slowly, watching as his body paced back and forth, frantically looking over the book in his hands. "We can fix this. I mean, just reverse the spell."
"I would," Merlin started without looking up from the book, "but I no longer have my magic."
"Like it's gone or…?" Gwaine trailed off when an apple appeared on the table. He eyed the apple warily before turning his questioning gaze to Merlin. "Did I do that?"
"Oh boy," Merlin whispered putting his book down, running a hand through Gwaine's hair. He took several deep breaths, letting them out slowly. "Okay, so all we need to do…"
"Merlin," a familiar voice called and Arthur walked into the room. Merlin turned wide eyes to Gwaine before glancing towards the doorway. "Have you seen…? Oh, there you are!" Arthur glanced over at Gwaine's body and said, "I need you two to accompany me to the lower town. There has been a dispute in the tavern."
"We can't," Gwaine said quickly and a bit too loudly, startling Arthur. "I need Gwaine's help with something."
"Something?" Arthur raised his eyebrows, glancing between Merlin and Gwaine. "What sort of something?"
"Sword fighting," Merlin exclaimed clearly without thinking. "I… I mean, Merlin wishes to learn how to sword fight a bit better. Right Gw… uh, Merlin?"
"Yes," Gwaine answered slowly, nodding. "I wish to learn. From Gwaine."
"Uh-huh." Arthur gave the two a skeptical look before saying, "It will not take long, and then you and Merlin can sword fight all you want."
Merlin looked as if he wanted to argue, but Arthur had already turned on his heel and left the room. He gave Gwaine a helpless look before hurriedly following the blond. Gwaine watched him go just as another apple appeared on the table.
Before he could grab the apple, Merlin poked his head back into the room and said, "Are you coming or not?"
"Yeah." A little disappointed, Gwaine looked away from the apple and trekked across the room, closing the door behind him.
Merlin
Gwaine knew the tavern well (he knew many taverns well), so he had to fight the urge to greet the barmaid when he walked into the place. Merlin, who spent as little time as possible in the tavern (despite the tales Gaius used to tell about his 'frequent' visits), turned a startling red when one of the regulars called, "Oi, Gwaine, a new barmaid has started working. Are you gonna…?" he then proceeded to make a rather crude gesture, and Merlin became even redder.
"Are you alright, Gwaine?" Arthur asked Merlin, giving him a curious look, a small smirk on his face. "You'd think you were Merlin the way you're acting." He then wandered away, heading towards the back rooms.
"He's a bright one," Gwaine commented drily, and Merlin threw him an exasperated look before walking away. "I've heard you call him worse," Gwaine called after the younger guy, chasing after him. "It's not like he's going to be surp…" The knight stopped in the room's doorway, raising his eyebrows. "Why do those two men have antlers growing out of their heads?"
"I was hoping you could tell me," Arthur replied crossing his arms, studying the two men, his eyebrows furrowed in inquiry. "Another knight tried talking to them, but they seem to be unable to talk."
"Like the time you became a donkey," Merlin said absentmindedly and Gwaine snorted.
Arthur turned a sharp gaze to Gwaine and hissed, "You told him that?"
"I would never," Gwaine said in a faux-hurt voice, placing his left hand over his heart. "What sort of ex-manservant do you take me for, but Gwaine is grateful for knowing now."
"Then how the hell…?" Arthur trailed off, giving Gwaine a curious look, before shaking his head and turning away. He cleared his throat, returning to the original problem. "I need you two to figure out what happened, and keep it quiet." He narrowed his eyes, looking between Gwaine and Merlin. "Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes," Merlin replied nodding.
"There's a tavern full of people who've seen them, mate," Gwaine started giving Arthur a small smirk. "How exactly are we gonna keep this quiet?"
"Figure it out," Arthur replied sharply. The blond turned on his heel, starting towards the door, calling over his shoulder, "Honestly, you're acting more like Gwaine every day, Merlin."
"Was that an insult," Gwaine called back and Arthur's shoulders tensed. "I… I mean, Gwaine here, would say it's a compliment."
"Arthur, I assure you, we'll figure this out," Merlin said quickly ducking away from the arm Gwaine tried to sling around his shoulders. "I promise."
Slowly, Arthur turned around, giving the two men a calculated look, and asked, "What is wrong with you two?"
"Nothing is…" Merlin trailed off when three apples appeared from nowhere, sitting directly in front of him and Gwaine. "Nothing."
Arthur eyed the apples suspiciously and said, "Whatever you two idiots did, figure it out after you fix my knights." He then disappeared into the crowd.
"You think he bought it?" Gwaine asked curiously, turning his attention to Merlin. An incredulous look greeted him just as another apple appeared. "Well, I think he bought it."
