I AM BACK! I am sorry this story fell dead lol RL stuff and moving all over. But I am back and am looking forward to writing again! Enjoy!
Alice had cried for what felt like forever. Hell, she had five years worth of tears to let go. Poor Kurama, he had sat there and took every moment of it. He stayed quiet and still, only petting her head once in a while. Once she had finished her spell, she sat up and rubbed her puffy eyes, "I am so sorry.."
Kurama merely smiled, "It's alright. At times, that is what we need the most. Just to let go for a while. We can only be strong for so long."
She smiled slightly and nodded, "Very well spoken. It's just...to think that I would be that old...I don't know. It doesn't seem right. You would think I would at least know something. This is all so much to take take in."
"I understand. But I can assure you, we are only here to help you. No harm will come to you on our presence."
She scoffed, "Tell Hiei that. His bad temper seems to never fade."
Kurama blinked, "So you have met Hiei before?"
"Uh, y-yeah. He was badly injured out next to my family's grave site. I talked him into coming with me...It was a bad energy." She leaned forward and whispered, "What is he?"
Kurama thought about telling her the truth. But refrained. He feared as though it would send her into another fit. He merely smiled like a fox would, "Hiei should be the one to tell you such things. It's not my place to do so." He stood and looked down at her, "I am going to go and speak with the others and see what updates they have on your...condition. If you need something, press this button," he showed her a button on her bed. "You should try to eat soon. It will help you heal faster."
She gulped and nodded. She didn't want to be left alone, but, Kurama seemed like a trustworthy man. His aura was very calming and collected. Something that drew her in and made her had almost laid back when a knock came from the door. A woman with blue hair walked in and smiled, "Hellp Miss Alice, I brought you some clothing and am here to help you shower. My name is Botan."
Alice looked at the newcomer and blinked. "How do you keep your hair that color?" She had to admit, it was a nice blue. Something she had once tried with her hair. It didn't work very well. Her eyes moved to the clothing. It looked comfortable. Seemed to be sweatpants and a tank top. Something that she would wear from home. Her eyes narrowed. Wait...those WERE her clothes. She eyed the approaching Botan, "How did you get into my house. Let alone know where it was..."
Botan froze at her quiestions and giggled nervously. She had been warned to keep Alice calm and not tell her too much of the demon world she was now intertwined with. "W-well..my hairdresser is very good with her dyes. As for the clothes...it was the address from your driver's license. We figured you would want a few things from home while you are getting your tests run."
Alice face palmed. Of course it was on her driver's license. She was a damn bloody idiot sometimes. She sighed and put on her best fake smile, "I'm sorry Botan, a lot has happened. I didn't mean to be rude."
Botan smiled, "It's quite alright. I understand. Now...let's get you cleaned up!."
Alice smiled and nodded.
The boys sat in Koenma's office talking when Kurama walked in. He glanced at a glaring Hiei and took his place, "So what do her test results say?"
The ruler cleared his throat, "Well, her DNA suggests she is OVER two hundred years old...She is not human. She is a mixed breed of demon. Of is all we know right now. We are looking into her lineage and other possible leads." He looked at his team, "Based on what Yusuke said...our enemy seems to know more about her than we are aware. He could have had something to do with her memory loss and lack of abilities. According to Hiei, she has the ability to see and communicate with spirits." He rubbed his temples. "This is a case that we need to focus on."
Yusuke nodded, now serious and locked into the conversation, "You say she's mixed types of elementals...do you know what kind? I know there are some books in Tourin that might be of some use."
"We are pulling the strands to see what exactly she is...but until then we do not know what to expect. I am still going to order new tests. Just in case there is more we can learn form her."
"So we are going to study her." Kurama was in deep thought.
Hiei scoffed, "She won't cooperate with us for that long...even I know that."
Koenma nodded, "I know..we will have to act fast.I am going to give her a choice: She works with us and she gets to go home until we get the results. Or, she stays here the full time."
Kurama tilted his head, "She'll need protection."
"I am aware, which is why you will all be taking shifts while doing research."
Hiei's eye twitched. As far as he was concerned, his debt to her was repaid. He wasn't going to play her nanny, "Let the bafoon deal with her. It's not like he will be of any use..."
Kuwabara grit his teeth, "Why don't you shut up shrimp."
"Feel free to get up and come make me..."
The tall red head stood and Koenma sighed, "Not now. We need to focus. Kaito got away...he will be back."
Alice stood in the shower letting the water comfort her tired body. It felt so nice. Just the right amount of pressure. Not too much, not too little. Botan had wanted to help her wash, but Alice quickly shot her down. She didn't know these people well enough for all that yet. She let the water roll off of her body and down her curves. She had always loved the feel of water. Memories of when her mother bathed her and sung to her floated back to her mind, making her frown. She turned off the shower and let out a sigh. Patting herself dry so she didn't hit any of the bruises on her body, she turned to look at herself in the mirror for the first time. The towel fell from her hands and she covered her mouth to keep from sreaming. Bruises and gashes on her skin scared her. Well, these kind did. You could see clearly where she had been tied and cut. Tears welled in her eyes and she let out a shaky breath. She turned to look at the bruising all down her spine and wiped her eyes. She didn't need to cry anymore. It was now time to figure all of this out. No more tears. She dressed and shuffled out to see Botan had changed the sheets on her bed and brought her some food.
Her pink eyes scanned over the girl and she couldn't help but feel sad for her. She did her best to hide it and smiled, "Feel somewhat better?"
Alice nodded, "Yes. Thank you for doing all this."
"Oh don't be silly! It's fine!."
Alice sat carefully on the bed and picked at her food, "Are you always so...happy?"
Botan faultered for a moment but kept her smile, "W-what do you mean?"
"You're so...chipper."
"O-oh well-"
The door opened to a irritated looking Hiei. He looked at Botan, "Koenma needs you."
She nodded and hurried out of the room. Alice watched Hiei as he closed the door and leaned on the wall. She chose to focus on her food and not him. He took this moment to look over her bruises and couldn't help but feel disgusted with Kaito. At one time, he would have thought those were good qualities in a leader. Someone who wasn't afraid to kill or slay those needed to get their way. It seemed as though the others had rubbed off on him somewhat. She finally looked at him, her blue met his red. "So who pissed on your parade?"
Hiei's eye twitched, "It seems we have to babysit you...This is not worth my time."
She nodded and swallowed her food, "Then be on your way."
"It's not that simple." This woman...
She simply laughed slightly and nodded, "Yeah it is..the door is right there. Surely your injuries didn't hinder your eyes sight."
A growl came from him, "Just because that Fox told you that you were safe doesn't mean anything...it does not change the fact I am not afraid to shed your blood."
She rolled her eyes, "Whatever you say Hiei."
He marched up to her and she sipped her tea. He smacked the cup from her hand, "I saved your life, just as you saved mine. I do not owe you anything more."
She blinked and sunk back into the bed away from him. The energy coming off of him made her uncomfortable. She didn't speak, she merely nodded. She didn't want to anger him...he just made it so easy. Her eyes shifted to the door where Kurama walked in. Hiei turned to look at him as they shared an unspoken look. Tension filled the room and Hiei made his exit. Leaving a confused Alice in his wake. Kurama looked at her with even eyes, "Are you alright?"
She nodded, "Yeah, I just pressed a button I guess."
He nodded with a calm smile and held up small bottles, "Here is your medication."
"Thank you," she took it from him and took them without question. She was starting to hurt and ache once more. "He called you a Fox."
Kurama blinked, "Did he?"
She nodded, "Yeah. Which you do remind me of one. I can see it." She smiled and laid in the bed, fixing the covers. He chuckled and pulled out his book as she drifted off to sleep. He watched her with is now golden eyes.
