People were prompting animal!AU. That's today's drabble. Yup, just animals instead of humans.

(I know some of you prompted puppy!AU and kitty!AU, which are not the same thing of course, but I write those all the time anyway, so they'll be coming soon.)

Animal!AU. I'm… not good at that. Sigh. Let's see what I can do, shall we?

Rachel is the Poodle.

Kurt is the Bengal cat.

Blaine is the Golden Retriever.

Finn is the Bulldog.

Mercedes is the Siamese cat.

Sam is the Terrier.

The Park Choir

It was almost autumn in Ohio. The air was heavy the way it is before the rain comes. The days were growing shorter and colder with a whispered promise of clouds and rain and storms.

That night was chilly, filled with the kind of cool air that made anything feel brisk and alive. A blond-haired poodle was walking around the park slowly, unhurried. A friendly Bulldog, which was running after a squirrel just a moment before, came up to her and licked her chin. She barked at him twice, and nuzzled his cheek. He yapped back, and they began walking together towards the patch of yellow grass near the swings, where a Terrier was rolling in the few brown, fallen leaves on the ground. Next to him, lied a Siamese cat with her head on her paws, watching him play.

Another cat, a Bengal with an elegant walk, strode up to her and nuzzled behind her ear when she turned to him, her tail stretched up with affection. He lay next to her and they rubbed their heads together.

A Golden Retriever joined the Terrier, his tail frantically swaying behind him when he barked cheerfully at the other dog, which stood up, shook off, and greeted him with loud barking and fierce nuzzling and licking.

The Bengal cat's head perked up when the Golden Retriever turned to him at last, and skipped towards him with his tail still swaying. He lowered him body, his belly touching the ground but his hind legs still stretched. Then, he licked the cat's face cheerfully, and the cat meowed at him gently, purring and butting his head against the dog's cheek.

The Golden Retriever barked once, licked the cat's ear and received another lick in return. He nuzzled the other cat's cheek, and she mewled at him and licked back.

The Poodle and the Bulldog arrived to the swings, lying down next to the Terrier who barked at them happily; they both barked back.

There were a few moments when the only sound was the wind whistling, while those who were still standing sat down as well.

The Siamese cat rose to sit with her forelegs straight, and the Bengal followed suit. The Golden Retriever sat next to him, in a similar position.

Once all of them were sitting still, the Bulldog barked once, twice, and quieted for two seconds before howling, loud and clear, his head pointing to the moon. The Poodle began howling moments later, her voice higher and harmonizing perfectly with his. Next began the Terrier, lower and quieter, but still clearly there. The golden Retriever waited for the Bengal cat to begin mewling in lovely, high pitched tunes as well before joining in with long, lovely and melodic howls. The Siamese cat was the last to join, and when she did, the melody was complete- they were singing together in voices inhuman, louder and strong and united in perfect sync, until the starry night sky turned red with the rising sun of a bright new day.
