Another prompt from the beautiful Toffeenut! :)

There will probably be a sequel to this tomorrow, because I'm so not finished with this.

Kurt is a single parent, so, ya'know.

Also, title from "Melody" by Lena Katina.

Close Your Eyes and See

Kurt was holding Lily's hand as they walked together into the building.

"Are you ready for your first piano lesson, honey?" he smiled at her warmly. She was his little bundle of joy, that little girl clinging to him.

"Yes!" she called enthusiastically. "Will you stay with me? Please please please please-"

"Of course, sweetie," he assured. "Let's go, your teacher must be waiting already."

As they turned around a corner, they both heard a few soft tunes, played tenderly on a piano.

Kurt curiously opened the door to the room they were told to get to, and held it open for Lily. Then he froze in place after looking up.

A curly-haired man with olive skin was sitting behind the large, black piano, and he was no longer playing just careless tunes; he was playing a lovely melody that Kurt's never heard before, and it grabbed his attention with its utter, sheer beauty. It was a melody that swirled around in the air and echoed off the walls, filling the room with its joyful yet somehow heartbreaking essence. It was the first time in years Kurt let something awaken that tingle in his belly.

It ended abruptly, though, when the man looked up, blushing a little when he realized he wasn't alone. He looked at Kurt's face with an expression that could be anything from confused to aroused, and opened his mouth as if to say something, but then shut it quickly. When he caught a sight of Lily, peeking from behind Kurt's leg, he smiled at her brightly.

"Are you Lily Hummel, sweetheart?"

Kurt smiled when she replied happily, "Yes!"

"Well, then, I am Mr. Anderson, and you can come over here- I don't bite," he promised. She looked at her father, and he sent her off on her way to Mr. Anderson, who gave her a high-five and helped her sit on the bench next to him.

Kurt stood there for a moment, and finally asked, "Is there anywhere I can sit? I promised her I'll stay for the first lesson."

Mr. Anderson looked up at him, and smiled, more gently than he did at Lily but not less excitedly. "Right over there," he gestured towards a bench.

Kurt sat down and watched as his daughter pressed her fingers against the keys, learning their proper position and following the instructions given to her in a soft voice. It took Kurt a short while to allow himself to look at the man next to her, pressing his own fingers, deft and gentle ones, onto the keys, the way his back was held straight and taut, and his head was tilted slightly, listening to each note.

And when he listened to them giggling and playing slowly, note after note, he thought- although he'd never admit it to himself- that he really desperately wanted to know Mr. Anderson's first name. And maybe whisper it into his ear in a hushed voice some time.
