Cara's POV (as always..)

"WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG?" Damon shouted.

"I'M STILL TAKING OUT MY HAIR, GIMME A MINUTE," I replied. Damon's been waiting downstairs for only five minutes. Like I said, I'm taking out my french braids from last night. It takes a little long because I twisted each piece as I braided it (for some styling effects) and the fact that the braids reach my mid waist. Today is Founder's Day, and Damon and I decided to go see the parade.

I'm already dressed in a nice pair of high-waisted blue jeans and a tight fitted maroon, scoop-neck tunic with ruching. I have a silver chain belt over the tunic, resting at my hips with a flower pendant slightly to my left. I have dark dark brown wedged boots with silver buckles and some jewelry Damon got me in Paris a few years ago, including a silver Eiffel Tower necklace, a silver flower-bud ring, and a white gold bracelet. My makeup is pretty natural, just a bit of natural lipstick and light brown eyeshadow. Finally, I get my hair out and it's perfect. Big, full waves and curls just like I wanted. It is Founder's Day, after all.

I turned off all the lights upstairs then went down to leave. As soon as I stepped foot next to damon, still in motion for the door, his hands suddenly go to my hair. It's pretty cute how fascinated he is with the science of hair styling.

"Woah, it's so.. big," he awed, "I like it. You don't do this that often.. it's weird seeing you without the curlier-curls."

I smile and chuckle at his comment at we walk out to his car, "Yes, Damon, I bet it is. I'm glad you like it, though."

He started the car and pecked me on the lips, "I always like it. Your hair is just likeable."

My smile widens and I turn on the radio as we drive to the car. I get on my blackberry, sending a few emails here and there to some old friend, as Damon and I listen contently to the music as we drive to Mystic Falls High. It's not long until we pull up to the school, and we can see a bunch of the students dressed in attire from the 1860s... Seeing this is a little weird, too.

We get out and spot Stefan, who was wearing fancy clothes that he must've found hidden in the back of his closet.

"Well don't you look retro," I commented.

He turned around, surprised, 'What are you two doing here?"

Damon patted his shoulder with a smile, 'Why wouldn't we be here? Bonnie deactivated the Gilbert device, Isobel's gone, and it's Founder's Day!"

"We're here to eat cotton candy and hide from your girlfriend who annoyingly flirts with Damon," I added. Damon's smile dropped and he scrunched his nose.

Stefan turned away, "I don't believe a word you say."

"With those little looks at him over your shoulder, after the whole Isobel fiasco? How could you not believe," I rolled my eyes sarcastically.

He turned back to me and furrowed his brows. "Well, you and Damon started it! With your little speech about repeating history and all that, it's just your mind playing tricks."

Damon shrugged, "As long as you heard it."

I cupped my ear with my hand, pretending to be confused, "What? Huh?" Damon smirked and bumped my hip with his, earning a smile from me. Stefan stood there like a brick wall.

"Oh, Stefan. You have no sense of humor," I said.

He scoffed and started to walk away, "Actually, I just have no sense of sarcastic couple humor."

"Sarcastic couple humor?" Damon and I repeated in unison, then we caught up with Stefan.

"Hey, hey. I get it- I'm the better, hotter, superior choice and you're concerned that Elena's going to come after me like Katherine tried to. But don't worry, I'm not really into brunettes. And Elena is not Katherine," Damon said. I slid my hand into Damon's left back pocket and he smiled and said, "And Cara's the only one getting into my pants."

Stefan rolled his eyes but said, "You're right. Elena's not like her."

Just then, behind Stefan I see Elena- who looks exactly like Katherine. I mean, not in the obvious has-the-same-exact-face-and-body way, but she's dressed in an 18th century gown with her hair curled as curly as mine on any other day. (But way more fake & burnt looking) My mouth goes slack and Damon's does too, and Stefan turns around and catches sight of her. She sees us too and curtsies, then we walk away.

"Woah," Damon says.

"I know."

"She looked..."

"Exactly like Katherine."

"Woah."

I looked up to my left, him looking down at me, "Was it just me with the urge to punch her in the face?"

He chuckled, "Nope."

We continued walking, finding a spot in the crowd at the parade was starting. Carol Lockwood was standing on a small rising with a mic, introducing each piece of the parade.

"Let's give a big hand the the Mystic Falls High School marching band!" The path is cleared and incomes about 70 nerds in red uniforms, playing typical cheesy-marching-band-music. Everyone claps anyways.

"And, for a little local history," Carol continues, "Mr. Saltzman's students have recreated Virginia's famous Battle of Willow Creek." A float comes in holding a bunch of teenagers of which two I can name (Jeremy and Tyler Lockwood) are dressed in battle attire with fake blood wounds and non-firing rifles.

"Ladies and gentleman, please welcome our stunning Miss Mystic Falls court and their stunning escorts. This is Caroline, Forbes, Miss Mystic Falls- aren't the beautiful?" Enters the float with Caroline and Matt, Stefan and Elena, and two other couples I don't know. The crowd hoots and hollers, but Damon and I look away, avoiding eyes contact as much as possible as they wave to the crowd. I glance down for a second, adjusting my fashion belt, and by sheer bad luck when I look up again, I'm staring at Elena.

The resemblance between her and Katherine is eerie, and it's incredibly weird.

She looks beside me at Damon, purposefully snubbing me, and waves subtly at him. She's still looking at him, so I squeeze his butt a little and in response he cups my right cheek and kisses me. I got some tongue, wink wink, and it was long enough for her to see but not so long that it was making out.

When we separated, the float had moved on. Damon fidgeted a moment and then turned to look over his shoulder. I didn't know what he was looking at until I heard Bonnie say,

"What do you want?"

"Oh, I'm just watching the parade," he replied cooly. I turned around to see her walk away, but Damon followed her and I stayed within earshot.

"Where are you going?"

"Away from you," she answered.

"I want to say something to you-"

"Just leave me alone."

He turned her around and looked her in the eyes, "Thank you," he paused waiting for her reaction, then went on, "The device Emily spelled could've killed me. I don't take what you did lightly so... Thank you."

She crossed her arms, "I did it for Elena."

"I know that, and I'm still very grateful. And... I owe you."

She didn't respond, so Damon shoved his hands in his pockets and said, "Enjoy the parade."

He walked back over to me and I smiled, pecking him on the lips and he slid one of his hands out of his pocket, joining it with my right.

I gushed, "I'm proud of you, that was sweet."

He half-smiled and we turned our attention back to the parade,

"Let's cheer for the Mystic Falls High School football team! All right, let's show them our support everybody!" Carol chanted. It was the last float of the parade, and Damon and I left to the Mystic Grill.

I'd left Damon to go to the ladies room, when Stefan and Elena walked in. Elena followed me to the bathroom and stopped me,

"Look Cara, I know that you're worried about me being friends with Damon."

"Worried,"

"Well, ya. I mean, it was obvious you were being territorial when you kissed him during the parade," she said.

"He kissed me, Elena."

"So? What's the difference?"

I smirked, "That he made the move. He wants me Elena, it has always been me. So all these flirty little gestures and the steamy looks you're giving him are going to no use."

She crossed her arms, "What flirty gestures? Steamy looks? Psh,"

Rolling my eyes I spat, "Oh, don't go playing innocent. Just stop with all of it, okay? I don't like it, Stefan doesn't like it, and Damon sure as hell doesn't like it. Don't make me regret being your 'friend.'"

Elena left, visibly hurt and annoyed that she got caught, and I used the bathroom. When I was done, I walked out to hear Jeremy diss Elena and storm out. Damon was arguing with Stefan, figuring I'd hear about it later I followed Jeremy out. I haven't spoken to him for a while, but I'd found out that he read Elena's diary and know about me compelling him to forget Vicki Donovan.

"'Oh, I'm hurting inside and I have no way to express my emotions. Being a teenager is soo hard,'" I mimicked. I was trying to start a conversation on a light note, but Jeremy didn't respond quite as well. He sped up in front of me and said,

"Bitch."

I was about to stop him when Damon came up and did it for me, "You do not to speak to her like that," he warned.

I added, "I'm not your sister, and from now on you're not gonna talk to your sister like that, either."

He scoffed, "So wait, you're gonna kill me just cause I hurt Elena's feelings?"

"Cut her some slack," I sighed.

"She took away my memories,"

"No, I did. She was protecting you."

"Well that's not either of your calls to make," he pulled against Damon's grip to leave but I grabbed his shoulder.

"Look, Jere- I get it that your mad at me for not telling you what I am, but I'm still me, I still play video games, Elena still annoys me, and I'll still make us fatty snacks and help you with your problems. But Elena's your sister and she's what you got, so treat her fairly."

Jeremy disregarded everything I said and just said, "Let go of me before I make a scene."

Damon spoke into his ear, "You're be unconscious before you'd even get a word out."

Stefan came between them, "Hey. Let him go,"

Damon released his grip on Jeremy and Stefan took over.

"You alright?" he nodded, "So what Cara was trying to say is don't blame Elena for this. Cara turned Vicki and Damon killed her. She was a threat to you ad a threat to your sister. I sorry that it happened and I wished that it hadn't."

Jeremy walked away saying, "Shouldn't have made me forget."

I said to Damon, "Good cop-bad cop. I like it."

"What were you doing?" Stefan asked.

"He was being a punk," Damon replied.

"Elena's relationship with her brother is none of your business, so stay out of it," he told Damon. He looked to me, "You alright, Cara?"

"I'm fine. Actually, I was the one defending Elena, Stefan. I was the brains, Damon was just the muscle. So what's your deal with blaming Damon?" Stefan stayed silent.

"Oh, wow. You know I'm really sick of this whole jealousy thing, so I'd appreciate it if you'd just stop," I spat. At that I stormed away, Damon coming along.

We went all the way into town square until I asked Damon, "What were you and Stefan fighting about earlier?"

"Oh, just the usual. You. Him. My boot up his ass for brooding about you," he said. I laughed,

"Great summary," I laughed. My attention turned away when I saw Anna.

"You're still around?" I asked her.

"There's something you need to know," she warned, "The vampire from the tomb are planning an attack tonight."

Damon glared at her, "How do you know this?"

"I went to them. They think I'm with them... But I'm not. They want the founding families dead."

"When is this supposed to happen?" I asked.

"When the fireworks start."

Damon and I shared a look, and before I understood Damon stated, "John Gilbert wants to use that invention on them."

Anna panicked, "Well then we can't be here!"

"No, don't worry. It's been deactivated," I told her.

"Well then a lot of people are gonna die," she replied.

I disregarded this, "Well where are they right now?"

She scanned the area then told us, "They're here already, Cara."

Damon and I left Anna there and ran to find Alaric. He was talking to someone but we pulled him away,

"Ric, come here- you got any of those nifty vamp weapons in the car?" I asked.

"Yeah, why?" he asked concerned.

"Because the square is crawling with tomb vampire and I think we might need a stake or two," Damon said, leaving Ric with that we spotted Stefan and Elena and went to go warn them. I grabbed Elena's hand and dragged them quicker.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Stefan asked.

"Saving her life," Damon told him.

"Fifteen words or less," I started, "Tomb vamps are here. Founding families are the target. You get out of here. Now," I tugged Damon along but Stefan stopped us.

"Where're you going?"

We kept walking but said, "More than fifteen words, Stef."

Damon and I rushed to get to Town Hall, the fireworks were already starting. We walked in just in time,

"Do you have any idea what you've done?" Damon asked. John was standing with the device, just about ready to activate it.

"Yes. As a matter of fact, I do." I went for him, but as I heard the clicking of the device set in place, a deafening noise pierced through my skull, and I fell over, screaming in pain along with Damon. My head felt like it was crushing in on itself, the pain was letting tears escape my eyes. At one point Damon's yells of terror stopped, and my own faded as everything went black.

XXxxXXXxXxXxX

I woke slowly, and found myself lying next to Damon and about ten feet away from a bunch of other unconscious people. Damon was fading back into reality and I tapped him and guided his eyes toward the only standing person in the room. It was John. Anna was on the ground beneath him, and she was begging..

"No..No, please-"

The she was staked. John left the room, pouring a smelly liquid onto everyone and the floor. Gas. I look back to Damon with worry, and then I'm fading away. Fuck...

XXXxXXxXXXxXx

When I wake, Damon's helping me sit up. We were shot with vervain, I feel it in my system. I sit up, then fall limply into Damon..

"No no, stay awake. Cara, you have to stay with me," he said to me. He brushes the hair out of my face, and i can barely open my eyes. But I see... The mayor?

I cough, I notice everything's on fire now, "Mayor? The... vervain affected you...?"

"Cara? Damon? Wh- What are you doing here?"

Damon spoke up, "We're vampires, what's your excuse?"

The mayor stumbled and rushed away, falling into what I recognized as a tomb vamp's lap.

"Mayor Lockwood," he smirked, then snapped his neck. I coughed again, and Damon looked at me with squinted eyes,

"We gotta, *cough* get *cough cough* out!" I nodded, and kept coughing. The smoke was starting to creep up in my lungs, and just when i thought all hope was lost, Stefan was running down the burning stairs and lifted me over his shoulder, supporting Damon with his other hand as he carried us out of the basement and set us down. Elena and Bonnie were out there, but I was just coughing up the smoke.

I realize I was more affected by the fire, and Damon had stopped coughing. My eyes were still watering, but I felt Damon lift me up and carry me bridal style all the way to our car. He set me in the passenger seat, and I leaned back, finally catching a bit of my breath. He came back and knelt in front of me with three open blood bags. He fed me one, and I greedily drank the other. Then he pulled out the last one for himself and got in the other side of the car, starting the engine.

"Go to Jeremy's," I told him softly. My voice is still hoarse from the coughing.

"No, no way. I'm taking you home," he argues.

I buckled myself up and repeat, louder, "Take me to Jeremy's. Anna died in there, he needs someone."

Damon looked at me, concerned, and I said, "I'm fine. Please, I want to help him."

...I dozed off until we pulled up to the Gilbert house.

I went upstairs, alone, and walked into Jeremy's room.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, startled. I came and sat on his bed, still slightly lightheaded.

He sat down next to me placing a hand on my back, "Woah, Cara, you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. But Anna's not," I said. He looked at me worriedly, "She's dead, Jeremy."

He looked at his hands, 'I figured that once they took her away."

"I know you cared about her," I said.

"Yeah. Yeah, I did."

"I saw her killed. And all I- all I could think about was that I wanted to help her. But...I couldn't."

"Why are you telling me this?"

I sniffed, "I took away your suffering once before. I can do it again," I said strongly. "But it's your choice."

Jeremy sighed, "Look, I know you think you took it away. But it's still there. Even though I can't remember why, I still feel empty. Alone... and making me forget won't fix it. It won't fix what's really wrong."

I hugged him, holding him close as I told him, "What I did to Vicki was wrong. I'm sorry."

I pulled away, and got up to walk out, but before I left Jere spoke up again,

"Anna said that vampire don't feel turn it off, they shut out their humanity...?"

"That's very true," I stated, looking back.

"Is it easier that way?"

"Is what easier?"

"Life," he said.

I sighed, "Life sucks either way, Jeremy. But at least if you're a vampire, you don't have to feel bad about it if you don't want to."

"Is that what you did?"

My head dropped to the ground crossing my arms, "I did it for a very, uh, long time. At times it was a lot easier."

I smiled at Jeremy, a sad smile, then walked out. I walked down the stairs, as as I opened the front door my heart boiled.

Elena was kissing Damon!

He was wide eyed and struggling against her grip. I pushed her off of him, and my eyes turned red. That fucking whore!

But before I could do anything Jenna opened the door and covered my face with my hand, "Elena are you- Oh. Uh, it's late. You should probably come inside," she said sternly.

Elena fumbled as she tried to get past me and inside, I could feel Jenna giving me an apologetic look before she closed the door. I dropped my hand, and without thinking I ran.

Away. From... Everything.

A/N: Oooh a cliffy! Sorry I had to do that to ya, and for the short chapter. I didn't mean for it to be that short but it was the way I needed to align it for the next one. If any of you recall that was the Season 1 finale. So, in honor of that, Season 2 will have individually named chapters :) I just want to thank SomebodyWhoCares and winxgirl1997 for the reviews :) keep reviewing! In return for this super-speedy-update I'd love it if you'd leave me more than two! As always, Cara's outfit link is posted on my profile.

That's all for now,
xoxo
