A/N: Hey Everyone! I am sorry for the wait, but it was planned. Today is the 1-year anniversary of when I first published! Hooray! Now, this chapter took me so long because I decided to kind of mash-up the "Katherine Chapter" of Season 2 into one. I know I've been doing it just episode by episode, but frankly writing like that has gotten pretty boring for me. When I first started this fic I had a whole AU plot in my head, but decided to wait until the 50th chapter or so to start it. Well I'm really impatient.
So, in fragments of chapters I'm going to give little scenes of all the big bombshells over the course of three/four months in mostly 3rd person POV. (AKA almost the entire second season of TVD) I know it seems sloppy, but I feel like this is the only way I will get my motivation back for this story. It also will really get the ball rolling for carrying on with my version of the show. I hope you can all understand with the weird time map, so just let me know in a review if you need any sort of further explanation. I'm also going to skip a lot of little things that happen because I'm sure all of you know how most of this stuff went down and how who finds out what. I feel it's unnecessary and boring to go through it all again. But I promise that after this chapter it'll be the easy day-by-day or week-by-week sort of thing. I'm also going to be doing shorter chapters, meaning more frequent updates for you all!
Oh, and one more thing- thanks to all of you who've been following this story for a whole year :) Hold on tight, because things are just getting started!

Mystic Falls Historical Society Volunteer Day ~ Early October.
Kill Or Be Killed: Mason's past is revealed- Tyler learns more about the Lockwood family curse from Mason. Stefan, Damon and Cara decide on a course of action towards Mason. Elena tries to keep Jeremy from becoming more involved with the Lockwood mystery, but Jeremy makes an effort to hang out with Tyler, and Mason gives Sheriff Liz Forbes some startling information, leading to a night of violence, confessions and heartbreak.

Damon and Cara unload boxes of paper plates setting them onto tables. Stefan comes over after kissing Elena, looking suspicious.
The elder Salvatore stops unloading and crosses his arms. "So you and Elena are having problems?"
Stefan scoffs. "Because clearly the behavior we're showing suggests we're fighting."
"That wasn't a real kiss, Stef. You weren't even touching each other, and your eyes were open," Cara states. Stefan didn't want to tell his siblings that he and Elena weren't getting along, and they didn't want Katherine knowing, either. But the truth is- Stefan is having mixed feelings about his relationship with Elena. But breaking up doesn't help the situation, since that's what Katherine wants, and he doesn't want to give up on her.
"Can you drop it? We've got listening ears.." Stefan nods to Caroline who was eavesdropping of the Salvatores. She goes back to whatever she was doing, and they drop the subject. Damon gets distracted by the image of Mason Lockwood and Liz Forbes chatting nearby.
"Wonder what they're up to," he mumbles. As Mason walks away, Damon leaves his loved ones by the tables.
"Hi Damon. Need anything else to do?" Liz greets Damon with a smile.
"Well sure, we're almost done unpacking.. What were you talking to Mason about?" Damon asks.
Liz hides the topic from Damon, shaking it off slyly. "Just told him to get on trash duty, carrying it out to the woods to dump the compost."
Meanwhile, Mason looks on curiously at Damon and Liz from the lemonade stand. He gives the little girls running the stand a twenty, then finished his lemonade and takes two bins out into the woods.
Damon comes back to Cara and Stefan, and they stack the empty boxes and set them aside. As they're walking to find another task, one of the little girls stops Cara and offers her a lemonade.
"Thanks, sweetie." Cara receives the cup with a smile and takes a drink, only to cough it out as acid seeps into her throat. Stefan frantically tries to help her as she coughs out, "Vervain! It's- it's vervain!"
Damon, furious, sees Mason walk into the woods with a smirk on his face. "I'm gonna KILL HIM!" He yells. "THAT SONOFABITCH I'M GONNA RIP HIS THROAT OUT-"
"CALM DOWN, Damon, calm down! DAMON!" Stefan restrains his brother to the chair, Cara's coughing slowly dying down. She takes the bottled water from Damon, washes her throat and spits it out.
"Okay, I agree- He's making threats, trying to expose us.. Mason's gotta be put down. But we're going to do it quietly," he says.
"Let's go, it's the perfect opportunist- trash duty." Cara says, voice still raspy from healing. Damon nods and wraps his are securely around her waist, assisting Cara in the direction of the edge of the woods. The three walk out into the woods, following the stench of dog as they go. The Salvatore's circle up on Mason from all different angles, and slowly approach him. Mason drops the bag and looks at Damon with wide eye
"Oh don't look so surprised. You knew this was inevitable- especially after you try to expose us. Go ahead. Run. I'll give you a head start," Damon spits. Before anyone could move, shots fire out at the Salvatores, each of them hit by at least three wooden bullets. They drop to the ground before they could see the attackers- Liz Forbes and two deputies. The deputies inject each of them with vervain, and drag them off to the Lockwood underground cellar.

Damon is the first one to wake. His eyes slowly open, and Liz shoots him in the leg. His screams do nothing to wake up his brother nor Cara.
"Here's how this is gonna work. Answer me and you don't get shot, understand?" Damon's pain increases as he looks to his right and sees his beloved woman lying unconscious next to him, and to his left, Stefan.
"How many of you are there?"
"Liz.. please.." he groans. She shoots him in the other leg, and he yells out in pain.
"How did you fool us? How do you walk in the sun?!" Damon groans in response and she shoots Cara in the stomach.
"Please... don't hurt her... we're your friends..."
Liz shakes off the guilt in her stomach. "Our friendship was a lie. I will drag this out painfully. Answer me and I'll kill you quick." The pain takes over Damon quickly, and his slips back into unconsciousness.
Just fifty feet out from the cellar, Elena and Caroline run away from Mason Lockwood, who Caroline's just beaten to a pulp. The blonde vampire picks up on the conversation going on in the cellar..
"Just shoot each of them with a wooden bullet, stake in the heart, then burn them."
"What, Care? What is it?" Elena asks.
Caroline replies sorrowfully. "It's... It's my mom... She's gonna kill them..."
"Well we have to go save them! Dam- I mean Stefan, at least!"
Caroline gives her friend a weird look. "I can't, Elena! My mom will find out about me!"
Elena ignores Caroline and rushes down to the cellar. Liz and the deputies stop what they're doing. "Elena? What are you doing here? You need to go."
"You can't kill them, I'm not gonna let you!" She yells. One of the deputies pushes her over near the unconscious vampires and hearing her friend struggle, Caroline speeds in, not to be seen.
"What was that?" The deputy asks fearfully. "Who else is with you?" The deputies try to follow the wooshing with their gun points, but Caroline is faster and attacks the deputy who pushed Elena, ripping into his jugular. The second deputy goes for her, but she kicks him across the cellar then attacks his neck as well. Appearing out of the shadows, face drenched in blood and a grimace on her face, she realizes what she's done. Caroline retracts her fangs and looks up, doughy-eyed at Liz and whispers. "Hi mom.."

Jeremy and Tyler were hanging out with Sarah and Aimee at the Lockwood mansion. They were joking around, drinking Tyler's deceased father's whiskey playing music and dancing. Stumbling over to the couch, Sarah saw Jeremy's backpack and sketchbook, and she asked to see his sketches. Reluctantly, Jeremy showed the others, revealing that they were all pictures of wolves. Tyler, angered and curious, takes Jeremy into his father's study to 'show him some of his own work,' but confronts him instead. Jeremy admits he knows about the Lockwood secret, after reading his ancestor's journal and overhearing Elena's phone conversations, then he spills everything he knows about Mason, the moonstone and the curse. As Tyler shows the moonstone to Jeremy, Sarah comes in and jokingly takes it, and being the flirty drunk she is, Sarah runs u the stairs, hoping to get Tyler up there for a steamy hookup. But Tyler is furious and accidentally pushes her down the stairs while wrestling the stone back. Tyler is shaken up by his actions and later tells Mason what happened and hands over the moonstone.

Caroline sits on a step, her head down and shameful as her mom looks at her from ten feet away, seeing not her daughter but a monster instead. Cara and Damon feed off of the deputies while Stefan sits in the corner, still slowly healing from the bullet wounds. Elena sits next to him picking her nails.
"You need to drink some deputy blood, Stef." Damon tells his brother.
"No, I'll be fine, it'll just take a little...ah...longer," he grunts.
Cara detaches from the other deputy, "Stefan, a few gulps isn't gonna-"
"He said he doesn't want it," Elena spits. Cara rolls her eyes at the annoying girl and turns to Damon.
"Well obviously we've gotta do something about Liz. Any ideas?"
Caroline jumps up, "Please, you can't kill her! She won't tell!" She turns to her shaken mother, "Right mom? If you don't keep this a secret, they'll kill you."
Liz pauses, then looks up at Damon with teary eyes. "Do it. Kill me. I don't care. I can't live in a world where my daughter is a monster."
Caroline, paralyzed with hurt, sat back down and stared blankly at the cave wall. Damon and Cara shared a look of sympathy towards the young vampire- they both knew that the two weren't getting along already and with crossing the line of strain with their relationship... it's gotta be rough.
Damon closed his eyes a second, thinking about how Liz hurt Cara and they way she was gonna "drag it out painfully." But Damon knew that killing Liz would be a negative output on everyone- including Cara and himself. Reopening his eyes, he scans the room saying, "We can keep Liz in the cellar for a few days, just until the vervain is out of her system. Then I'll compel her and wipe the events from today from her memory."
The group nods, Liz in agreement with this conclusion. Though, within the first few hours of Liz being in the Salvatore cellar, she began to have doubts. She expressed this to Cara, who talked to Damon and Stefan about it. Liz had changed her mind and decided she'd rather keep their secret than be wiped of her memory. The Salvatore's took sympathy towards Liz's situation, and let her go with full trust. Now that the Sheriff knows the vampire's whereabouts, she can help keep the Council off their backs. It's a win/win.

Deep into the woods, Mason gets into a car that Katherine is driving. It turns out that he's come back to Mystic Falls working for her, only here to get the moonstone. The timing with his brother's death just gave him the perfect opportunity to come. He hands her the moonstone and they share a kiss. He thinks that Katherine loves him, not knowing about her history with Damon and Stefan. Mason doesn't know what he's gotten himself into.

Plan B: Despite Elena's efforts to keep Jeremy safe, he offers to help Damon, Cara and Alaric deal with Katherine. They go after Mason, which puts Katherine into a fit over losing her werewolf, causing Aunt Jenna to end up in the hospital.

"Cara," Jeremy sighed. "I'm glad you're still here." The young Gilbert hugged his older friend, and she shut the door behind them. Damon comes downstairs, still towel drying his hair.
"What are you doing here, Jeremy?" Cara asked. "Aren't you supposed to be at the charity thing with you sister?"
Jeremy rolled his eyes. "I have more important things to do, like this. Tyler isn't a werewolf, he's got to kill someone to break the curse. But his uncle is! And he's looking for this special rock, a moonstone, that's somehow connected to it. But he never told me what this curse was.."
Damon's jaw was slack at the information. Who knew this kid could actually come in handy?
Cara send out two texts.
To: Carol Lockwood
Sorry, can't make it today. Emergency meeting with a florist.
*WHOOSH*
To: Ric Saltzman
What are you up to? Have some informa-
She wasn't able to finish the text as there was yelling out front.
"OPEN THE DOOR!"
Damon drops the towel from his hand to let Alaric in who's carrying a large box.
"So, Isobel's assistant from Duke just sent me this stuff."
Cara rolled her eyes, "Vanessa. The Psycho."
"Yes, Vanessa. So apparently there's this moonstone-"
"Already know that. Jeremy here told us it's connected to the curse somehow. I think-"
Jeremy interrupted Cara, "Wait, so what exactly is this curse about?"
Damon cleared his throat. "It's Aztec. Apparently way back when vampires and werewolves roamed freely, until a shamen put a curse on them to control their power. Since then, werewolves can only turn on a full moon and vampires are weakened by the sun... Ya know, some vampires." Damon waved his ring.
Alaric pulled out the book we learned the curse from, "Right. So the werewolf part of the curse is sealed with the moonstone," he pointed to an image of the rock.
"Sealed? What do you mean?"
Cara spoke up, "Well it's a witch thing. Whatever seals the curse, is a key to unseal the curse. So looks like Mason thinks he can undo this whole thing himself.."
"That seems unlikely stupid, even for a surfer," Damon sneers. "Who would he team up with?"
A very small, very angry pause falls over the room. Cara is the one to break it.
"Goddammit. Katherine. She's using him. Alright let's go kill the SOB, and get Stefan on finding this moonstone."

Elena and Stefan return to the Boarding house to find Damon and Cara with a body in a tarp. Cara picks up his phone and wallet from the floor, emptying the contest into her back pocket and reading alond the text she's sent to Carol.
"Carol, Big opportunity in Florida. So sorry to leave without goodbyes, I won't be back for a...while. Will send for my things once I get settled. Much love, Mason."
Damon takes the phone from Cara with a smile, going through his things.
"Oh! Sorry about Jenna. Is she going to be okay?" Cara asked Elena. She puffs out a breath but answers sincerely.
"The doctors said she was lucky, and that she'll be healed in a matter of weeks."
Cara nodded and went for Mason's feet, "Stef? Wanna help a lady out?"
Stefan obliged and they pick up the body.
"Oooh, most recent calls! Wonder who this could be," Damon said excitedly. Cara immediately drops the feet to head over and hear the conversation.
"No! Damon, don't provoke her! Da-"
"Mason, you should've been here an hour ago," Katherine said on the other line, worried.
"Whoops, wrong boy toy," Damon chuckled.
"Damon. For once you've surprised me. You're with Mason?"
Cara grabbed the phone. "Oh yeah, he's right next to me... Though his heart's across the room."
"Y- You're gonna wish you didn't do that."
"I've had a really busy day today. Killed a werewolf, found a moonstone.. Hey, did you know he hid it at the bottom of a well filled with vervain? Looks like he didn't trust you a bit.. but he did love you. Poor guy. Where are you? I could bring him over, ya know, last goodbyes and whatnot. "
"You have no idea what you've just done."
Damon screamed in a baby one, "Oh did we put a kink in your master plan? I'm sorry."
"Do you honestly believe I don't have a plan b? Or after that plan c, then d.. I'm sure you all know how the alphabet works. Send my love to Damon."

Masquerade: Damon and Cara seek the help of Bonnie to trap Katherine at the ball to kill her once and for all. Things take an ugly turn when Matt and Tyler start doing shots with their friends. Katherine has a trick up her sleeve to get her out of harms way, only to be locked up in the end, willing to reveal her secrets.

"You look good in red," Caroline tells Cara. She laughs, then remarks back to Caroline, "You too."
Damon comes to take Cara up to the room, after hearing from Bonnie that everything's set. Caroline says goodbye as the two go to meet Stefan up there and she turns the corner to get some drinks. Caroline spends quite a while waiting for Katherine, until finally she shows up to figure out this plan.
"Stefan and Damon are nowhere to be seen.. Or that redheaded bitch. What's going on? Where's the moonstone?! Tell me!" Katherine pushes Caroline up against the wall, helpless.
"No-nothing! I- don't know anything, Katherine," Caroline gasps. Katherine tightens her grip. "OKAY! Okay.. Bonnie has it! Bonnie has the moonstone..."
Katherine lets the girl down, and Caroline bursts into tears. "Where's the witch? WHERE?!"
"She's... upstairs..." Katherine drags her upstairs, into a corridor and demands to know which room she's in. Katherine smiles and walks into the directed room. Her smile quickly falters when she hears Caroline's sobs turning into laughs. She turns around to see Caroline with a big smile on her face.
"I can't believe I did it! Wow. Me, little ol' Caroline, has fooled YOU, the big and scary Katherine. WOW! Not so smart after all, huh?"
Katherine races towards Caroline in fury, only to hit an invisible wall at the threshold.
"What is this?!"
Without an answer, Caroline saunters off with a smile on her face.
Stefan approaches Katherine from behind, and she turns around to see him with a stake in hand. "You really think you're gonna be able to just kill me? With that?"
"No, but he can," Stefan says, and behind appears Damon with a giant stake launcher gun borrowed from Alaric and shoots a stake through back. Cara comes out and attacks her, just getting her arm. they tousle around, Cara's strength barely giving her the advantage. But just as Cara is holding a stake over her heart, Jeremy burts through the door, ending it all.
"Stop! Everything you're doing to her, it's hurting Elena!"
As Cara's guard is down Katherine escapes from her grasp.
"You thought you were the only one with a witch on your side? Wrong. And something tells me that my witch is better than yours." Ketherine sneers, taking the stake from Cara and twirling it around.
Cara and Damon, furious and not too shocked, just sat down on the couch.
"Jeremy, go check on Elena, make sure she's okay," Stefan told him. Jeremy left and Katherine mocked them.
"Meemee, let's make sure poor Elena is okay, meemeee.. Now just a little more pressure," Katherine ground the tip of the stake into the palm of her hand, just to give Elena more pain. Stefan sped over and knocked it out of her hand. Katherine sat down and crossed her legs with a pout.
"Look at us all together.. The brother who loved too much, the brother who didn't love me enough, and the woman who stood in the way."
"And the evil slut vampire who only loved herself," Damon spat.
Katherine raised her brows. "What happened to you, Damon? You used to be so polite and sweet."
"That Damon doesn't show himself to wretched whores," Cara retorted.
"Will you guys stop antagonizing each other?" Stefan said.
Katherine rolled her eyes. "Where's the moonstone?"
"What do you want with it?" Stefan replied. "And I really didn't understand the whole 'Mason Lockwood' thing. Why would you want to break a curse that could evidently help destroy the whole vampire race? I mean, what's in that for you?"
Katherine stayed silent.
"Yeah, sorry about your pet wolf," Cara said. "You should've kept him on a tighter leash."
Katherine finally broke the pout with a devious smile. "I'll have to remember that for next time. He's not the only wolf in town."

Matt, compelled and attacking Tyler in another room, falls to the ground from Tyler's punch. Caroline over hears this ruckus and rushes to the room. While she is on the ground helping Matt, Sarah pick up a letter opener from the desks and mumbles.
"Matt failed. If Matt fails, I cant." She lunges at Tyler with the blade but Caroline warns him, and he pushes Sarah into the desk, where she hits her head and falls to the floor unconscious. Tyler rushes over to her, fear and worry in his eyes.
"Sarah? No.. no this can't be happening. This can't happen!" he shouts.
"Tyler, what's going on?" Caroline asks, even though she knows the consequences of this accident. Tyler, screaming and clutching his head in agony, looks up at Caroline. His eyes are a beaming yellow.

"Where is that damn witch," Cara says harshly to the door.
"We could play charades!" Katherine suggests sarcastically. Stefan, standing in the corner deep in thought, finally says a word after fifteen minutes of silence.
"You bargained the moonstone.." He pointed to Katherine.
"What are ya mumbling about over there?" Damon asked.
Stefan continued to speak directly to Katherine. "When you struck a deal with George Lockwood, to help you fake your death, you told me that you gave George something he needed. It was the moonstone, wasn't it?"
Katherine turned around to address the younger Salvatore. "Good for you, Stefan. Two plus two. And it would've worked, except that people found out that I wasn't in the tomb. Thanks to you two," she turned to Cara and Damon, who nodded their glasses of alcohol at the girl, "By the way, have I mentioned how inconvenient your homicidal obsession with me has been?"
"You and me both," Cara grumbled.
"But, why do you need it back?" Stefan thought out loud.
Katherine paused, struck by this question, then walked toward Damon. "I love you in a suit- very dashing."
Stefan continued, "What were you doing with it in the first place? Unless it wasn't yours to begin with... In 1864 you faked your death- who were your running from, Katherine?"
"Mr. Holmes himself, everybody," Cara said proudly of Stefan. He'd put the pieces together.
Katherine once again intruded, approaching Damon further with a smile on her face. "In 1987 you were in Hawaii, at a luau.. with that wench of yours. Dancing, drinking, watching the fire breathers... and I was watching you."
Cara let a groan escape from deep in her throat. Damon, just looked disgusted and annoyed.
Katherine went on, "Of course I'd check up on you over the years. I was hoping something else would come along and free you from that woman..." then she mouthed the words 'I love you.'
Finally, Cara stepped in and smacked Katherine across the face, making Katherine fly across the room and smash into the wall. Baring her fangs Cara pushed hold her by the throat againt the wall, about to stake her through the heart, but Stefan hold her back.
"No, Cara, don't!"
"Oh yes, Cara, please do." Katherine sneers.
Cara growls, "Once this spell is lifted I am going to kill you."
Cara lets her go and soon enough, the witch Katherine has brought along steps in the room with the moonstone in hand.
"Katherine. The spell on this room has been broken you're free to leave."
She approaches the woman. "Thank god."
"Now when I hand this over, my debt to you is over," Lucy demands.
"Done."
"I owe you nothing," she continued.
"I said done, now give it!" Katherine interrupts.
Damon steps forward, "I wouldn't do that."
Ignoring the raven haired vampire, Lucy hands Katherine the moonstone. The smile on Katherine's face quickly disappeared when she started choking on air and falling to the ground in agony.
Lucy glares down at her. "You should've told me another witch was involved. She's a Bennett witch, Katherine! ...But I'm sure you knew that."
Stefan, concerned, stammers. "Bu- Elena-"
"Elena's fine, the spell is broken, Bonnie's with her. I sincerely apologize for my involvement." Lucy apologized, then left.
.
"She's like a feather," Cara said to Damon.
"I know," Damon replied, finally lowering her into the tomb and throwing her carelessly through the threshold. "It's gross, like she's just skin and bones."
Cara nodded, and just as they sit, waiting from her to wake up. When Katherine comes to she stands at the edge on the tomb.
Cara sighs, "Hello Katherine."
"Where am I?"
"Where you should've been all along," Damon replies. "I thought you would've learned your lesson by now, messing with a Bennett witch."
She glowers. "You should have killed me."
"Death would've been to kind."
Cara reaches over to close the door. Katherine panics.
"No.. No! Cara don't! You need me! Elena is in danger and he's coming for you, too!"
Damon pauses, "Who?"
Katherine falters.
"You're lying, you're always lying," Damon mutters, and continues to help Cara close the door.
Katherine shouts again. "Why do you think I haven't killed Elena? She's the doppelganger, she needs to be protected.. and there's no way for me to even try to hurt Cara... I'd be asking for him to kill me.."
"I can protect myself, and Elena if I have to," Cara says. They shut the door, Katherine begging and screaming at their will. Once it's been shut, Cara and Damon go home.
Finally, Katherine gets what she's deserved.

As Elena is getting into her car after the party, someone with a mask on comes up from behind her with a towel of chloroform and abducts her. Maybe Katherine wasn't lying after all.
