Cat: Haha, it is once again midnight and here we present chapter 13! That was an awesome duel!
Rena: Please review!
Cat: Oh, and apparently, i made a mistake in the last chapter and Reiji is only... 16!? I REFUSE to believe it! That makes him only one year older than me! So, sorry about that! And about all the spelling, apparently that was pretty bad too.
Rena: This story is in Yuzu's POV. Please give me some artistic licence. If i put some stuff that isn't in the anime in here, don't flame. There would be no point in reading, if it was just the anime in words.
Chapter 13- Philosophers of Prophecy, Galilei and Kepler!
Yuya was facing a fusion, a synchro and an XYZ monster with only one normal monster in attack mode.
The first attack was evaded by Yuya's quick spell, Hippo Carnival. Well, not evaded completely but at least Whip Viper stayed on the field. The card summoned three hippo tokens in defence mode and made that the opponent could only attack those.
"Alright! He protected Whip Viper!" Tatsuya cheered, as we all watched in awe. Then, a thought struck me. When did Yuya get this good? I wasn't thinking that in a bad way but I knew that he had grown so much as a duellist in the past few weeks. It was actually kind of alarming. Would I stand a chance against him anymore?
I had to remember not to bet on winning duels for him to buy me lunch at school. Luckily, he still sucks at rock, paper, scissors.
I blinked when the LDS representative continued his attacks with his other two monsters, even though he knew they would cause no damage because of Yuya's (badly dressed) Hippos.
And so, another one was down, split in half by the synchro monster (poor thing). "At this moment, Alexander's monster effect activates," Mr. Glasses said.
"I have a feeling that that effect is not going to be in Yuya's favour," I muttered to Gongenzaka, who just barely nodded. My palms were sweaty from gripping them so much, but I gripped them tighter, digging my nails into my palms.
"Once per turn, when Alexander destroys a monster, it can destroy one more!" Reiji-san exclaimed, as it sliced another eccentrically-dressed hippo in two.
Then, the blue XYZ monster lunged in to attack Yuya's viper that was wrapped snug around his wrist. The purple snake jumped off and took the attack head on and disappeared in a puff of orange sparkles, to the graveyard. Yuya's life points were at 3300.
With that, he ended his turn with one face-down. Yuya, being Yuya, complimented him on his control over the three summoning types
"I don't control Fusion, Synchro or XYZ…" Yuya smiled.
"All the conditions have been met," he whispered. "I have two monsters of the same level on my field."
I stared, hardly believing what I was thinking. Was he about to…? No way!
"I use my level four Shadow Veil to construct the Overlay Network!" he announced, as the two horses disappeared in a purple swirl.
"That's-" I cried, barely believing it. This was the second time in a week I had seen a super rare summon.
"XZY Summon! Rank four! Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon!"
Shut up, Yuzu! Now is NOT the time! I screamed inwardly. Yuya said he didn't have an XYZ monster and I believed him. But still…
I clutched my hands so tightly that I winced in pain as my nails dug in harder.
"Yuzu-nee-chan," Ayu whispered. "Your hands are bleeding…"
"I have a unique power that's been given to me!" Yuya smiled, as he drew his card. "The fun has just begun!"
But still, Yuya was facing a fusion, a synchro and an XYZ monster with no monsters. How was he going to save the school and his reputation?
"Ladies and gentlemen!" Yuya cried, raising his arms above his head. Great, that meant he had a plan! Or… As far as a plan as Yuya could think up. More like a simple idea, really, but at least it was something. "My dear fans, sorry to keep you waiting!"
I glanced sideways at the group of LDS students. Through my stress and worry, I had to smirk at their very unimpressed faces, as Yuya began his Entertainment Duelling, that he claimed that 'only Sakaki Yuya can do'.
"I've been waiting for this!" Ayu squealed. I smiled, feeling the tension surrounding us lift a bit. We were all optimistic. If Yuya could beat Strong Ishijima, then he could beat Reiji.
"And there you go, Yuya!" Gongenzaka grinned, as the familiar Magicians flew into the sky and Yuya's disk glowed with the multi-coloured words of 'PENDULUM'.
"Come forth, my monsters!" Yuya shouted, raising his hand into the sky.
Firstly, a very familiar red dragon appeared on the field. Then, a monster that I had never seen before, Entermate Fire Mufflion.
"It's time for a counter attack Yuya!" I shouted to him over the speakers, even though he knew that already.
"Now, everyone! Your attention please! It's time for fire acrobatics featuring our superstar, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!" Then, with no warning, he jumped off the platform he had been standing on. The three kids gasped and I had to choke a scream. However, I managed to disguise it as a loud cough as Yuya landed safely on his most trusted monster, Odd Eyes.
Then, he announced an attack on Reiji's Fusion monster. "At this moment, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon's monster effect activates! When battling a level 5 or higher monster, battle damage is doubled!"
I was expecting him to activate his face down or something but his fusion went down in a glowing inferno and his life dropped by 1000, to 3000. Yuya was winning. Not by much, but he was winning.
"He's turned the tides!" Ayu announced.
"Furthermore, I activate my Fire Mufflions ability! When this card is in attack position, a Pendulum Monster that has destroyed another monster by battle this turn gains 200 points and gets to attack again!"
Reality check, when did he get this good!? Was it a 'Eureka' moment? Was he bestowed ultimate knowledge? Or is it just because the stakes are so high?
And, just like he had mentioned the fire acrobatics earlier, Odd-Eyes jumped through a ring of fire and gained an extra 200 points.
"To think he could use that move to give it a power up!" I smiled. The future of our school was looking brighter.
"My second attack target is Alexander, the King of Gales!" Yuya announced, pointing at the green synchro monster. Good, getting rid of that one got rid of his pesky ability to attack twice. And because of his dragon's special ability, the damage was doubled. Reiji's life was now at 2600.
Yuya was seriously on a roll and he knew it, as he bent down and swiped an action card from the floor. He was wearing a smile and, even though he had placed his goggles back on, I could tell his eyes were full of determination. Then, he played the card he had just grabbed, that gave him the ability to attack again.
And down goes the XYZ monster!
"He did it, he took out all of them!" Ayu screamed, waving her arms in the air.
This is amazing!
"Now he can win!" I gripped my fist, avoiding the cuts that I had made previously and smiled. Everything was going right. "Even if the opponent can use all three summoning methods, as long as Yuya has Pendulum Summoning, he can protect You Show Duel School!"
I glanced at my father, who had his face pressed up against the glass and shouting words I couldn't hear because his microphone was off (which was a blessing, in itself). He was obviously doing him proud.
With that, Yuya jumped off the dragon and thanked his audience for the cheers. He didn't need to because he knew we would cheer whether he was winning or not. "Fire Mufflion cannot attack this turn due to its own effect."
"Shivers! He's won this!" Futoshi giggled, swinging side to side. I glanced over in his direction and smiled at the three children.
"Hey, what's going on!?" Gongenzaka asked urgently.
"What!? What is-?" I turned back to the duel and almost fell over.
What were those three destroyed monsters doing, standing on the field!?
"No way," I whispered.
"But he destroyed them all…" Tatsuya muttered.
"Why?" Gongenzaka asked again.
We stared down at Yuya, only to see that he was non-the-wiser.
"I activated Caesar, the King of Surging Waves' monster effect," Reiji said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "By using one Overlay unit, Caesar, the King of the Surging Waves can special summon any number of monsters destroyed by battle this turn at the end of the battle phase."
That is a ridiculous ability! That cannot be-
"Of course, there is a risk for such a powerful ability. On my next turn, if I control monsters that were special summoned by this effect, I will take 1000 points of damage for each monster," Reiji pushed his glasses up the ridge of his nose.
"Here we go again…" I muttered.
"There is no way he will lose that easy," Sora bowed his head in thought, as the two other boys discussed what would happen if the effect came to pass. For once, I agreed with Sora.
And sure enough, he played his trap card that let him sacrifice three 'DDD' monsters and add two 'DD' monsters from his deck to his hand, meaning he wouldn't have to pay 3000 points of damage after all, surprise, surprise.
"See, I told you," Sora smiled.
Just whose side are you on? I thought. "Keep it up, Yuya!" I put my hand to the side of my mouth to make it louder. "Just make it through with a smile on your face using your Entertainment duelling!"
Yuya ended his turn with a face down.
"I'm looking forward to whatever surprises you have in store for me!" Yuya grinned at the LDS opponent. "Just kidding!"
"Likewise, you have done well," Reiji said, a bit like a teacher to a student. "You have allowed me to see for myself the nature of Pendulum summoning… Now it's your turn."
What?
"I'll have you confirm whether or not Pendulum Summoning is unique to you with your own eyes!"
Wait! Stop! What is he suggesting?
"I, using the Scale one DD Philosopher of Prophecy, Galilei and the scale ten DD Philosopher of Prophecy Kepler,"
"What!?" Yuya shouted from across the field.
My ears were obviously not working. My eyes must have been hallucinating. Was I dreaming? He didn't just… No. Those two cards he got earlier from sacrificing the Fusion, Synchro and XYZ couldn't be…
"Those are Pendulum Monsters!" Gongezaka cried.
"N-No way!" My eyes grew so wide they stared to hurt but my brain wasn't comprehending what it was seeing.
"It can't be…" Sora said.
"Pendulum summon!" Reiji announced, to the absolute horror of everyone at You Show Duel School. "Come before me, my monsters!"
No.
No way.
Nu-uh.
He did NOT just pendulum summon.
I stood there, my mouth hanging open, not saying a word. My brain was like a computer, with a big error. It refused to engage. But Pendulum Summoning… That's Yuya's! Nobody else's!
This, I decided, was even worse than when Sawatari stole the Pendulum monsters. Much worse.
Especially seeing as all three monsters were level 8 with 3000 points each.
"How come he can Pendulum summon?" Yuya whispered. It hit me like an unexpected snowball in winter. When he duelled Sawatari, who Pendulum summoned, Yuya forgot how to duel, to hung up over the fact that he wasn't the only one who could Pendulum summon.
He had to wake up.
"Go! Battle phase!" Ruthless Reiji pointed at Yuya's trusted dragon. "Hell Armageddon, attack Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
He had to wake up.
"Yuya!" I screamed, bashing my fist on the glass, causing it to vibrate alarmingly.
Then, he quickly dived for an action card. I exhaled. There was still hope. The action card negated the destruction of the dragon and halved the battle damage. His life hit 3050. However, Reiji still had two Hell Armageddon's left.
The second one attacked, destroying the dragon and taking Yuya's life points down to 2550. Then, he was off again, looking left and right. His only monster was his little lion, in attack mode. The final monster locked onto target, fired and a huge smoke cloud erupted, cloaking Yuya and his monster in smoke.
When it cleared, the lion was gone and Yuya's life was at 350. He was past the safety line and was in the red.
"He took 2200 points of damage in an instant!" Tatsuya cried. The cloud of worry rolled over us once again and began to rain drops of pessimism.
"Yuya…" I sighed, only imagining how hard it must be for him. His dad's school and his pendulum cards were in the balance here and he was barely holding on by a thread.
"Where did you get Pendulum summoning?" Yuya demanded.
Reiji refused to answer, just placing a face-down and ending his turn. Suddenly, I was really irritated at him and, of course not forgetting the chairwoman of LDS, as she clapped slowly, praising her representative.
"If you have mastered Pendulum to this extent, then this measly You Show Duel School…" she didn't finish her sentence. Ok, now I was really hacked off.
She waltzed in here, claiming to be getting justice for Sawatari Shingo, who was apparently assaulted last night by Yuya. Then, dropped the claims, saying she wanted the school.
And then, she claimed she wanted Pendulum summoning to be on her curriculum in LDS. But has obviously dropped that claim too because Reiji had Pendulum!
So, what did she want this slightly run-down building for? The LDS campus took up half the city!
"Yuya's back in panic mode," Gongenzaka mumbled. I turned, and sure enough, Yuya was staring at Reiji in fear, demanding who and what he was.
"Yuya! The match isn't over yet!" My dad yelled over the speakers.
"That's right, I'm still duelling!" Yuya said to himself. "Calm down. Calm down."
Yuya drew and gazed at his card. For a second, we locked eye-contact. Just one glance that lasted a millisecond. And from that tiny space of time, I knew he was back in the game.
He pendulum summoned again, summoning back his Odd-Eyes, Entermate Fire Mufflion and a new monster, Entermate Partnaga- the monster he just drew.
"You can do it, Yuya!" I cheered.
His new monster, Partnaga's effect was to raise a monster's attack by 300 for ever 'Entermate' monster on the field. And because Yuya had two, he raised Odd-Eyes points by 600, to 3100. More than Reiji's Pendulum monsters.
For, what seemed like a decade, Yuya paused to think. Finally, he attacked the first Hell Armageddon and destroyed it.
"When destroyed, Pendulum Monsters are sent to the extra deck," Reiji said venomously.
"Allright! Next!" Yuya cheered, preparing to wage war on the next massive monster.
"Hell Armageddon's monster effect activates!" Reiji announced. "When a monster I control leaves the field, Hell Armageddon gains that monster's attack until the end of the turn. Hell Armageddon's attack is 3000. Therefore, the remaining two Hell Armageddon's gain 3000 attack points!"
"An attack of 6000!?" Yuya gasped.
"Whoah…" Ayu said, awed.
"How do you defeat a 6000 attack point monster?" Tatsuya whispered.
"No…" I wailed.
"I… End my turn," Yuya hung his head. Both of the monsters returned to normal.
Then, as if by magic, Reiji's pendulum scale changed. It went from 1 to 10 to 2 to 5. And, because of the shrinking numbers, the two remaining Hell Armageddon's vanished. At first, I thought Reiji had planned it all but his face was priceless. He had no idea what was going on. Nobody did.
"Then, this is a chance!" Gongenzaka grinned.
"The next time he pendulum summons, he'll only be able to summon level 3 or 4 monsters!" I exclaimed.
Then, came the madman laugh.
Of course he would. All creepy guys on TV do. Just start laughing creepily for no reason. And that was what Reiji was doing.
"Why didn't I notice until now?!" he said, through his hysteria. "Pendulum Summoning is not complete yet!"
Oh great, another bombshell! What does he mean now?
"I have seen the possibilities of further evolution in Pendulum Summoning! And I'll have you bear witness to that moment!"
"What did you say!?" the words cut through the moment like a knife through melted butter. The 'evolution of Pendulum summoning' was put on hold as everyone turned to the chairwoman of LDS. Her bodyguard was whispering something in her ear. I hadn't even seen him come in.
"Marco-sensei was…" Masumi cried.
"Reiji-san!" the woman cried, now looking… Fairly distressed.
Suddenly, the LDS representative jumped down from the plinth and began walking away.
"What- w-wait!" Yuya tried to grab him, to finish the duel and his explanation.
"I'll give you the win," was all he said.
What!?
"What's your name?!" Yuya asked, wanting to know at least that much.
"Akaba Reiji," he turned for a second, looked Yuya in the eye and left.
Gongenzaka and I exchanged glances.
Once again, something was up and we were even more clueless than before.
Cat: Please review!
Rena: And the question! Who is your LEAST favourite main or supporting character from any of the Yugiohs? (No 'baddies' that's next week's question ^^)
