Everyone's still writing proposal-related fics…
Yeah. Not me, because as usual I have no original ideas and you know, plagiarism is bad.
So first-date fic, with mindreader!Blaine. (See? I wrote mindreader!Blaine and it's not smutty! Success!)
Also Kurt doesn't know yet that Blaine can read minds, and his thoughts are in Italic.
Hairspray and Hair Gel
Kurt opens the door with a hesitant smile. "Hi."
Oh god. He looks good. Am I too dressed down? It's just Breadstix. Still. Is my hair okay? He looks good. Do I invite him in or are we going right away? Crap, I forgot to put on cologne. Will he think I don't smell good?
Blaine, overwhelmed with Kurt's sudden rush of terrified thoughts, does the first thing he can think of doing, which is lean in and kiss Kurt chastely on the lips, short and sweet. "Hi yourself," he whispers, grinning. "You look lovely tonight."
He knows he hit the jackpot, because Kurt blushes and his mind is a flutter of he really thinks I look good and he kissed me, he kissed me again and yeah, everything is gonna be alright.
"We should probably go- our reservation is in twenty minutes," he says gently, calmer now when Kurt's brain is not as dizzy.
"Of course. Just a second." He turns around, brings a hand to his mouth and yells into the house, "Bye dad!"
"Have fun, kiddo!" is the distant response.
Oh my god, I just made a fool out of myself, what am I, a ten year old?
Blaine has no idea why Kurt's upset with himself- apparently reading minds doesn't solve all of the mysteries- so he just offers his hand and Kurt grabs it.
They walk to Blaine's car and Blaine lets go of Kurt's hand with a slight squeeze. Kurt smiles shyly, and opens the passenger's door with a quick thought of this date is going to be great, Hummel, start believing it.
Blaine knows it will be, so he gets in the car and turns on the radio before he starts driving. He doesn't ask Kurt what he'd like to listen to because Kurt is intrigued of what he'll pick- he chooses his favorite station, looks at Kurt for approval (Kurt bites his lip and nods, and apparently it's his favorite station, too) and then looks at the rearview mirror as a slowly backs out of the driveway.
About two minutes into the ride, Perfect by P!nk comes on and Blaine starts singing without thinking about it, until he realizes Kurt's singing, too. He glances over and Kurt's rubbing his arm, adorably coy, singing in his lovely, melodic voice.
Yeah, it's going to be a wonderful date.
When Blaine's on his way home, though, he thinks that his favorite part of the evening was making out with Kurt in the car, both of them tasting like the cheesecake they shared and the gentle scent that consists of Kurt's hairspray and Blaine's hair gel and a little bit of sweat hovering around them.
The scent lingers in the car, and it's the scent that fills his dreams that night.
