The bluntness of Queen Lucy always took people by surprise. The sweet nature of the Queen was not diminished by this quality, but somehow enhanced. When her siblings asked her opinion on matters ranging anywhere from taxes to which dress to wear, Lucy gave her answer openly and honestly, with little regard to the consequences of her words.

However, this little trait of the Queen did not come off quite as endearingly to foreign diplomats or other members of royal families.

When Lucy told the ambassador from Calormene that, "If he thought a bit more before he spoke, he really would be better off," Edmund decided that he needed to intervene and give the nine-year old some lessons in basic small talk and diplomacy.
