Cat: This story is in Yuzu's POV. Please give me some artistic licence. If i put some stuff that isn't in the anime in here, don't flame. There would be no point in reading, if it was just the anime in words.
Chapter 32- Heated Match!
This is not good… I thought as Yuya charged up pathways, ascending higher and higher on the Action Field. It was all well and good that he wasn't going to quit. Yuya did have a tendency to turn the tables in almost every match he has ever played. But this was different.
Sawatari had his own Pendulum cards! Not ones he'd stolen. Where he got them; we had no clue but he had them, all the same. This was an extremely difficult jam for Yuya now. His Pendulum summoning had been sealed off by Sawatari, who also had his tricky trap card chain effect.
Sawatari had 2000 life points and was as smug as a worker given a pay-rise. He didn't even chase after Yuya, who was getting further and further away from him. So far away, mini Action-Screens had popped up everywhere so we could all see where Yuya had vanished too. Yuya had 2200 life points left but had no cards in his hand and he was running faster than I had ever seen him. Yeah, and that includes the speeds he can reach to get to the canteen at school.
"Yuya! You're still in this!" I shouted down, to cheer him on and to convince myself. Yuya's beaten Sawatari before and he can do it again…!
"My turn!" Sawatari announced, pulling out his new card, as Yuya continued running. "I summon Yousenju Kamaitachi from my hand!" There it was again. Sawatari's Kama brother's combo. In the blink of an eye, out were the two other monsters: Kamanitachi and Kamamitachi, both summoned due to their effects. "At this time, Shrine of Trials' effect activates! One Yousen counter lights up for every Yousenju monster I have successfully summoned!"
There were now five candles alight on the altar above Sawatari's head.
"While you've been running around and collecting Action Cards, I've got everything set up!" Sawatari declared. "Now, it's time to end this!"
Yuya had run inside the derelict building on top of the mountain and vanished from the spectator's sights. We all turned our gazes to the screens to see that Yuya was still charging on. Not a single Action Card appearing.
"I activate Urenshinchu's Pendulum effect!" Sawatari said. "When there is another Yousenju card in the opposite Pendulum zone, its Pendulum scale turns from 5 to 11! With this, I am able to simultaneously summon monsters from level 4 to level 10! Appear now, Mayosenju Daibak!"
And there it was again, Sawatari's huge Pendulum monster with its 3000 attack points, giving Sawatari another Yousen counter. And Yuya was still running.
"Yuya… What're you going to do?" I whispered, wondering if I could suddenly have a eureka moment and magically know what he was planning. Or, if Yuya would kindly explain what he was doing. I twitched, restless in my seat from the building tension.
"Daibak's effects even work on face-down cards!" Sawatari called, obviously referring to the banishment of two cards back to the deck effect.
"He's going to wipe out Yuya's field!?" my dad cried.
"I activate Daibak's effect! I can send two cards on the field to their owner's hand!"
Yuya's eyes widened but he managed to stay upright as the wind smacked into him, sending his two face-downs back to his hand.
"And now Dizzying Winds of the Yousen Realm will send those two cards back to your deck! It's the end! Too bad! It looks like…"
"Boy, he really loves the sound of his own voice, doesn't he?" Sora sighed, sinking lower in his seat. "Tell me when it's Yuya's turn. He doesn't give me headaches by talking…."
"No! That's fine!" Yuya shouted back, cutting Sawatari short of his egotistical prattling, jumping out the crater in the roof, flipping and landing perfectly on his feet, balancing on the tiles. "When this set card," he explained, holding it up for all to see. "is removed from the field, it changes all my opponent's cards to 'anonymous'!"
"You! You were planning to do this from the start!" Sawatari growled.
"Of course!" Yuya replied, smiling. "Yousenju monsters aren't affected by Dizzying Winds… but…"
"I get it!" I cried, slamming my fist into my open hand.
"They'll return to the deck instead of the hand due to Dizzying Wind's effect!" Sora grinned, as he fumbled in the pockets of his jacket and pulled out another candy.
Sawatari did not look pleased. His eyebrows twitched as he complimented Yuya. "You're not half bad…"
"Only because I used your monster's effect against you!" Yuya winked.
"But do you really think that you'll last to the end of this turn?" Sawatari smirked. "I'll end this duel before then!" He vaulted like a professional acrobat and landed gracefully ontop of the huge monster's back. "Battle! I attack directly with Daibak! All of you, follow me!" he cried down to the Kamaitachi brothers, forming a quadruple assault on Yuya's empty field.
I shielded my eyes as the wind from Sawatari's wind attribute monster tore through the stadium snapping my hair back, rustling my clothes and blowing bits of sand and debris from the Action Field into our eyes.
"I won't let this be over!" Yuya shrieked.
"It's the end!" Sawatari screamed in a voice that would provoke people to send him a mental asylum. The wind smashed into the building that Yuya had vanished into.
I stopped breathing when it began to tremble under the force. Tiles slid off and the foundations began to crumble.
"Yuya!" I screamed, just before the building crashed in like a pack of cards. All on top of Yuya. "NO!" I covered my eyes with my hands. There was no way he had gotten out unharmed. There was no way he had gotten out. He had been completely crushed. I heard a flurry of activity below me. They were about to send out the medical team.
The stadium fell completely silent as Sawatari giggled away, not caring about his opponent's condition. "You've lost, Sakaki Yuya!"
I uncovered my eyes when the crowd began screaming. A bright light had illuminated on the other side of the field and under it was… Yuya!? Not a scratch on him, smiling like a fool. I took a deep breath, feeling oxygen fill my lungs for the first time in what felt like hours.
"Yuya!" I jumped to my feet.
"No way! I should have landed that direct attack!" Sawatari hollered.
"Did you think I'd be running around without a plan?" Yuya smirked. "Action Magic: Great Escape! It ends the battle phase!" He bowed low as the spectators had a round of admiring and amazed shouts to encourage him.
"Stop messing around!" Sawatari snarled. "You're not allowed to excite the crowd!" I rolled my eyes at his words. Hadn't he been doing that up till now? Besides, that's what Yuya does (which he pointed out)! And it's not exactly against the rules in the book.
"But I'm the one who'll be getting the final cheers!" Sawatari announced. "I activate the effect of the Shrine of Trials! I can add one Yousenju monster from my hand by using three Yousen counters! I add Kamamitachi to my hand and end my turn!"
"Now then," Yuya said. "May I ask that you're monsters leave the stage?"
Sawatari scowled as he was lowered back to the floor, every single monster on his side vanishing. "At the end of my turn, Yousen Tornado is destroyed because a Yousenju monster did not return to my hand. Also, Urenshinchu's Pendulum Scale returns to 5."
"My turn! When neither of us control any monsters I can summon this monster by reducing its level by one! I summon Entermate Drumming Kong! Battle! I direct attack with Drumming Kong!"
Yuya jumped onto the huge monkey's back and they began to bound towards Sawatari, whose field was now devoid of any type of monster. However, he still had cards in his hand.
"When you declare a direct attack, I can send one Yousenju monster to my graveyard to special summon Yousenju Oyamabiko! I light one Yousen counter! Oyamabiko's attack is the same as the attacking monster's it battles!"
"I activate Drumming Kong's effect! It can increase the attack of one monster by 600 until the end of the battle phase!" Yuya announced, landing his attack, destroying Sawatari's monster and dealing 600 points of damage, leaving Sawatari with 1400 attack points.
"At the end of the battle phase Drumming Kong's effect wears off and its attack points return to normal!" Yuya said. "I end my turn with this!"
Yuya was fighting back. He had jumped back from the jaws of defeat and, even though he had no cards in his hand and was currently unable to Pendulum summon (much to the disappointment of the crowd) he winning.
"My turn!" Sawatari hissed. "I'll use three Yousen tokens from the Shrine of Trials to add Mayosenju Daibak from my deck to my hand!"
"Pendulum! Pendulum! Pendulum! Pendulum! Pendulum!" The crowd cheered, realising that Sawatari was going to Pendulum Summon soon. I felt my blood boil slightly. Sure, one day Pendulum summoning would be available to everyone in the world but… It still felt wrong that the chanting was for Sawatari and not Yuya.
And of course, Sawatari was encouraging it, wanting them to chant more (showing that he was also a total hypocrite as well as a stuck-up, rich, egotistical slimeball). "Cheer more! Scream more!" he demanded. "Let's go! My Pendulum Scale is between 3 and 5, so I am able to summon level 4 monsters simultaneously!"
"Wait, what!? He's not activating Urenshinchu's effect!?" I gasped. "Wasn't he going to summon Daibak!?"
Sora frowned, and leaned forward in his chair, not giving me an answer. But we all knew it wasn't a careless mistake. No, no matter how stupid Sawatari seemed to be, he was quite switched-on when it came to duelling. He was up to something again, which was made clearer as he summon Kamaitachi and Kamamitachi.
"This counts as a single summon, so I only receive one counter for this summoning!" Sawatari announced. "First, I'll get rid of that Entermate eyesore! I activate Kamaitachi's effect!" Yuya was off running, an Action card in his sight. "If I have another Yousenju monster out on the field, I can send one card back to my opponent's hand. Be gone, Drumming Kong-"
"Action Magic!" Yuya screamed, mid jump. "Transparent! One of my monster's is unaffected by my opponent's effects for the rest of the turn!"
"Don't disappear!" Sawatari raged, stamping up and down like a two year old. "I still have other options! I tribute Kamaitachi and Kamamitachi to tribute summon Daibak! I light one Yousen counter!"
The monster was back and it was again looming over Yuya who had no form of escape, after being blocked off by the falling scaffolding during the evasion of Kamamitachi's effect earlier. However, Yuya looked up and grinned.
"Why are you smiling!? Do you know what situation you're in!?" Sawatari demanded.
"I do!" Yuya assured him. "But the audience is excited! It's not just me! The whole crowd is hyped! I've found a new possibility! That's why I can't help enjoying this!"
"I can't help enjoying this either!" Sawatari grinned too but of a different kind to Yuya's. It was full of hate and malice. "I'll be able to crush you in front of such a huge crowd of people!"
"Sawatari… I told you I'm not going down that easy!" Yuya laughed. "The show still has more to come!"
"No! Right now is the climax!" Sawatari pointed. "Let's go! Battle! I attack Drumming Kong with Daibak!"
"I activate Drumming Kong's effect! It can increase on monster's attack by 600 until the end of the battle phase!" Yuya announced, raising the monkey's attack to 2200 but it still wasn't enough to take out Sawatari's attack of 3000. Drumming Kong was destroyed and Yuya's life points dropped to 1400. "The destroyed Drumming Kong is sent to the extra deck!"
"I feel like Yuya's evolved again in this duel…" I muttered, staring down at my friend as if I had seen him for the first time in years.
"Yeah," Gongenzaka agreed with me. "But Sawatari seems to be doing well also."
"I end my turn!" Sawatari told Yuya. "The tribute summoned Daibak will remain on the field!"
"Why is it not going back to his hand?" I asked the others.
"Because he tribute summoned it and didn't special summon it," Yoko explained. "Only when Daibak is Special summoned must he be sent back to the hand."
"Pendulum! Pendulum! Pendulum! Pendulum! Pendulum!" the crowd screamed down on both of them, getting louder and increasing in speed. Even though they were desperate to see another form of the new summoning, they weren't getting restless. They were enjoying every twist and turn of this duel.
"Now bring it, Entertainment Duellist!" Sawatari pointed at Yuya, who blinked. "The crowd is cheering for it! They are cheering for our duel! Give them what they're asking for!"
"Sawatari…" Yuya whispered, genuinely taken aback with Sawatari's words. "Yeah!"
"Ladies and Gentlemen!" Yuya announced. "As you can see my field is absent of set cards, let alone monsters! This draw will be betting this whole show on a Destiny Draw! If I manage to draw something, I want to hear you cheer!"
The crowd fell silent, everyone's eyes transfixed on the average fourteen-year-old, who drew the card as if his life depended on it. He glanced at it. "Right now I'll show you the most amazing magic show you've seen in this world! This card can only be activated when I have no monsters on the field and only this card in my hand! Spell card! Magician's Card! I can draw as many cards as my opponent controls and reveal them!"
Sawatari rubbed his eyes and blinked hard. "Sorry, what?"
"Right now, Mister Sawatari has five cards on his field! So, I draw five cards!" he announced, filling his hand back to the average size in an instant. "The cards I drew are Skeeter Skimmer, Trump Witch, Magician of Chronomancy, Turn Toad and Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
The crowd went ballistic.
"He drew Odd-Eyes!" I screamed over the din.
"I, using the Scale 4 Entermate Trump Witch and Scale 8 Magician of Chronomancy set the Pendulum Scale! With this, I am able to simultaneously summon monsters between the levels 5 and 7! Come forth my monsters! Entermate Drumming Kong and Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
"Now its time to end this!" Sawatari shouted to Yuya.
"Yeah!" Yuya agreed. "Time to battle! I attack Daibak with Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
"You don't have enough attack!" Sawatari jeered, just before Yuya activated the effect of Drumming Kong and boosted the Dragon's attack by 600 points, raising it to 3100, higher than Sawatari's ace Daibak."
"Odd-Eyes effect! If Odd-Eyes destroys a monster of level 5 or higher, the damage is doubled!"
"Sarenshinchu's effect! When a Yousenju monster would be destroyed, I can destroy this card instead!" Sawatari took the damage, his life points falling slightly to 1200 but Daibak stayed on the field.
"This is fun, isn't it?" Sawatari asked Yuya, staring around at the adoring crowd, who were all losing their voices by screaming.
"Yeah!" Yuya smiled. "But the fun has just begun! I activate Entermate Trump Witch's Pendulum effect! Once per turn, I can use monsters on my field as materials for a Fusion summon!"
"Wh-What!?" Sawatari shrieked.
"Fusion Summon! Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!" Yuya declared, the huge beast joining him on the field, with 3000 attack points.
"Battle! Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Attack Daibak!" Yuya yelled, jumping onto the dragon's back as it began to lumber off after Sawatari, who was running like a cheetah, focusing on only one thing. Yuya jumped off his dragon and flew in the same direction as his opponent. I couldn't see but there would only be one reason why: Action Cards.
The two ace monsters, both with 3000 attack points collided, as Yuya and Sawatari picked up different Action cards and continued on their ways, not interfearing with each other. There was no point in cheating now.
"I activate the Action spell: Huge Fireworks!" Sawatari declared. "This card deals damage equal to half the attack points of an opponent's monster destroyed by battle!"
"Yuya!" I cried, as the effect shot up into the air as a plume of flame, streaking down to hit him in 1500 points of damage, if he didn't avoid it in time. Then, out of nowhere, armless hands appeared with a giant sheet, which reflected the attack and turned it into what the spell was on the tin- Huge Fireworks.
"Due to the Action Spell: Miracle negating the destruction of my Beast Eyes, your effect is negated!" Yuya smiled down at him.
"You! That was too flashy!" Sawatari complained, too hung up on the fact that Yuya was looking cooler to the crowd than he was and that he was missing the biggest threat, which was only metres to his right.
"I activate Beast-Eyes' effect!" Yuya announced. "When it destroys an opponent's monster in battle, it can inflict damage to opponent equal to the attack of the Beast-Fusion material used to summon him! Drumming Kong's attack is 1600!"
And before Sawatari even registered what was happening, he was thrown to the floor. The final words said and the final move made. It was over.
Yuya had won.
"We… We did it!" I screamed, along with all members of You Show Duel School (and Gongenzaka).
The crowd were still screaming and applauding as Sawatari got to his feet (ignoring Yuya's hand). They both stared around and Sawatari bowed, while Yuya waved his hands.
"Wasn't that awesome, Yuzu-neechan!?" Ayu shouted over to me.
'Yeah' was what I tried to say but all I managed was a raspy cough. I had temporarily lost my voice due to all the screaming and shouting. Great.
Well, it was worth it, I guess. I had supported Yuya from the beginning to the end, even if I had been a bit doubtful at times.
And he had won.
Rena: Man was that duel exciting! So fast and intense!
Cat: Anyway! Please review! Hoping for the 200 mark, if that's not too much to ask?
Rena: So, today's question!
... Sora vs. Shun? What you looking forward to in this duel? Haha, this chapter is so late, you may have seen it already! :P Oh well, my sincerest apologies.
And before you all kill me, i admit i have seen very little Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal... But didn't Yuma and stuff live in Heartland? And isn't that the next Action Field for Sora vs. Shun? Like what!?
Or is my brother (he's seen all of Zexal BTW) feeding me a load of rubbish?
Thanks everyone, you guys are my life xx
