Chapter 38- 4 Dimensions

Two days had past. I returned back to my house to sleep and hear news from my dad. They were still searching for Sora. But they had found nothing. Sora was gone.

However, for every moment the sun was up, I was sitting anxiously by Yuya's bedside, along with his mum.

"Right when I entered Central Park… What happened there? Why hasn't Yuya woken up for two days!? We couldn't find Sora either! Just why…?" Finally, after two days of holding them down, I burst into floods of tears.

"It'll be ok," Yoko enveloped me in a gigantic hug, as I sniffed and swallowed. "Yuya isn't weak. Ever since his father vanished, he's kept himself inside his own shell."

Yuya still lay there emotionless, his only movements his slow and steady breathing. If someone didn't see that, they would have thought he was dead. He was pale and clammy and if he was like this for another day, I was going to get Yoko to call a doctor. She had refused when I had woken up the day after I found him in the park but now I was beginning to wonder if Yuya was in some kind of coma or something.

"…But just like when he woke up when he fought Strong Ishijima, he'll definitely wake up again. He'll become even stronger than he was before!" Yoko said confidently.

I realised that this was a parent's undying love and faith in her child that was shining through here. I could tell by her face that she had believed what she was saying, but could I?

Slam

We both jumped when we heard the noise of something colliding with Yuya's bedroom window. At first I thought it was a stupid bird not noticing the glass but when I turned I realised that it was an even stupider girl pressed against the window.

"Darling! Don't leave Mieru alone!" she wailed, squishing her cheek against the glass.

"Who is she!?" Yoko squeaked.

"Houchun Mieru…" I sighed, actually not as surprised as I should have been. I knew she would find out where Yuya lived eventually. "She's a fan girl, basically."

"Get out of my way!" she wailed to the inanimate object between her and her 'darling'. She tore the glass open and jumped into the room, leaving Yoko and I completely stunned. Had this girl no manners at all? Then, we realised, she had jumped in our direction. Before we knew it, we were lying on the floor in a heap.

"Now that I'm here, I'll defiantly save you!" the intruder screeched. "I'll revive my darling with my fortune-telling charms!"

Yoko blinked. I just stared at her. "No, he's not dead…" I sighed.

She closed all the curtains, plunging the room into complete darkness. Yoko and I steered clear out the way, exchanging looks. Mine a look of, 'we are going to regret this!' and hers a look of 'this looks rather interesting!' From several pockets she pulled out many different, weird objects and a scent burner ('how did that fit in your pocket!?' I demanded) which she lit, making the room unbearably hot and stuffy and smelling of lavender.

"Around my darling's pillow, I'll place power stones of good health that will dispel any illness!" I could have sworn she cackled, as she started placing glass beads around Yuya's head. Then, she suddenly tugged away his covers.

"Hey!" Yoko interrupted.

"What are you doing!?" I asked her, not for the first time in the five minutes she had been here.

"That's my line!" she snapped back. For a second, I thought she was going to recommend taking him to a doctor. "If you put my Darling in these kinds of pyjamas, he'll never get better!"

"Can I drag her by her hair to the door and kick her out?" I whispered to Yoko, gripping the handle of my fan tightly in my hands, waiting to strike.

"Grey drains away your fortune!" she said, as if that was common knowledge. "If you don't want my darling's fortune to get any weaker you need to change them right away!" She pointed at us. "Green and white should be good!"

"Green?" Yoko asked, tilting her head.

"And white?" I queried, also tilting my head.

I zoned out when she began blabbing about all the different qualities of different colours. If we needed a doctor, we would get one. But the last person I would ask to 'heal' Yuya was this fortune-telling leech. After scurrying around the house, Yoko found a pair of green and white square pyjamas that were slightly too small but had to do. Surprisingly, even though he wears bright colours throughout the day, almost all his nightwear was grey or (apparently worse) black.

After five minutes of struggling to get the new clothing onto him and having another argument about the colours of clothing. ('What colour is his underpants?' she asked, to which Yoko and I responded that it didn't matter and she was going to have to live with it, no matter what 'evil' colour they were.)

"By the way," Yoko said, as she pulled the covers back over her shivering son. "How did you know Yuya was stuck in bed?"

"Don't tell me that you saw that with your fortune telling!?" I gasped.

"Of course! …Is what I'd like to say…" she sighed, making me flex my fan dangerously. "Honestly, I heard some kids at your school talking about how worried they were at the tournament. So after that, I dropped anything and ran."

Just like a stalker would…

"But I'm glad I came," she smiled. "I didn't imagine he was being treated this badly!"

Yoko and I again exchanged glances. One more insulting word and she was out. And that was an amazing thing, coming from Yoko. She normally held onto all creatures, from cats to, well, Sora.

"Wait a minute! By 'everything' does that mean you forfeited your match?" I asked her.

"Your Miami Championship one!?" Yoko demanded.

"Of course!" she looked at us as if we were completely insane. "Right now Darling is more important than duelling!"

And right now, in my opinion, death is more important than 'Darling'!

"Well, that's wrong!" Yoko and I shouted.

"Yuya is a duellist! I'm sure that he, as a duellist, wants you to win in the tournament as well!" I wailed.

"Victory is the best medicine!" Yoko nodded.

"What's more effective than stones, curtains and pyjamas is…"

"Victory!" Yoko and I pointed at her, saying the final word in unison.

"If you win…" I whispered.

"Yuya will definitely wake up!" Yoko finished my sentence. "Now hurry up and get back to the tournament grounds!" We towered over her, not giving her much of a choice.

"I got it! For my Darling! Mieru will do her best!" And with that, she shot out the door and we heard the front door slam.

"What a team," Yoko chuckled, hi-fiving me the second she was gone.

Quickly, we pulled the curtains back and let the sunshine back in and we threw the beads around Yuya's head in the bin. Yoko pushed the scent burner outside into the hallway (which was immediately swarmed by an army of curious cats) and I opened the window, to let some fresh air in. No trace of the girl was left (apart from the pyjamas, but we couldn't be bothered to change his clothes again).

Eventually, we took to where we were sitting before, patiently waiting.

"She was a… um… Very interesting girl…" Yoko said, after a minute of silence.

"Yuya beat her during his JYC qualifications… You would expect her to be really angry but, in fact, she 'fell in love with him' and has been following him ever since."

Suddenly, Yuya shifted and moaned slightly. We snapped our attention to him as his eyes opened and he stared around, confused.

"Yuya!" I smiled, leaning closer.

"Yuzu?" he muttered. "Mum?"

"Sakaki Yuya," Yoko snarled, very uncharacteristically. "If you ever date that Honchun Mieru, I will ground you till the day you die."

At that point, I wished I had a camera because Yuya's face was priceless.

"Whaaaaaaaa-?! Mum! It's not like that! She just follows me everywhere!" Yuya was suddenly wide awake, trying to explain. "How did you even…?" he slowed down when Yoko and I started laughing hysterically.

"Oh, she came visiting," Yoko smiled sweetly. "Stay still, I'm going to make you some lunch."

She stood up and strolled out, leaving me and Yuya. He stared at me for a second, then sat up. "I need the bathroom," he whispered.

"Well, I'm not surprised, you've been out for so long!" I smiled. He nodded, before swinging his feet out of bed and running out the room, down the corridor and to the bathroom. After a minute, he crawled back and lay down again.

"So, wait, how long was I sleeping?" he asked, as Yoko re-entered with a tray and a bowl of simple rice and some toppings, handing it to him. He took two bites then placed it on his bed, muttering about pancakes.

"Two days." I stated.

"Two days!?" Yuya shrieked.

"Yeah, and sound asleep too." Yoko sighed. "You must have been very tired. Ever since your four qualifier matched for the JYC, you've been duelling non-stop without any breaks! It's understandable…"

"What about the tournament?" Yuya asked.

"The first round of the Junior Youth ends today," I smiled. "And about now, Honchun Mieru from the Fortune Telling School should be…" I pulled out my Duel Disk to check up on her duel. Pressing the necessary buttons, I could see the current duel. However, it wasn't Mieru; it was Hokuto from LDS walking onto the field.

"What about her match?" I asked, tapping more buttons, reading information. "It's over!?"

"Huh?" Yoko asked.

"Against Fuuma School's Tsukikage… She lost to a One Turn Kill!" I said, shocked. I felt sorry for her, she probably had no chance. I hope she hadn't said anything stupid before the duel, or anything. It probably meant that she wasn't coming back to the Sakaki's today.

"I'm going to make some juice," Yoko announced, getting up again and sliding out.

"The Miami championship really is a high level tournament…" Yuya sighed. "There a lot of good players that we don't know about."

I nodded, explaining Futoshi's defeat against Ayu's previous opponent. During his duel with Ayu, the creepy kid had used Fusion. But against Futoshi, he used Synchro, completely wiping the poor boy out.

"What's wrong?" I asked, as Yuya listed all the forms of summoning.

"That night, I met Yuto," he said suddenly. "He told me, our worlds are split into four different dimensions."

Huh? "Four dimensions?" I repeated.

"Fusion. Synchro. XYZ. And the one we live in, Standard." He nodded. "Sora came from Fusion."

Sora is from a completely different dimension!? I could feel my mouth hanging open but made no attempts to close it.

"Yuto and Kurosaki come from XYZ… The two dimensions are at war and, in front of my very eyes, I saw Sora battling Yuto… And he disappeared."

"Disappeared!?" So Sora was… He was-?!

"Yuto said he was forced to return to the Fusion dimension."

"Yuto said that…?"

"Yeah." Yuya nodded. "After that, Yugo appeared."

Whowhatwhywherehow?

"Yugo?" I queried.

"Yugo is another guy who looks exactly like me…" Yuya explained. I groaned inwardly. Another Yuya? Having two confused me enough. "He showed up riding something like a motorcycle… Yugo is probably a duellist from the Synchro Dimension."

I spluttered. It was far too much to take in. "Synchro? But Yuto said he was battling Fusion! In order to save Ruri, who was captured by them!"

Yuya's eyes narrowed. "The one who did that may have been Yugo… Yuto said that there was a pawn of Fusion in the Synchro dimension. Apparently the two had fought before and perhaps then…" he paused and then swung his legs out of bed and padded over to his desk, where his deck lay and picked up one card.

I stood up and peered over his shoulder. My heart leapt into my throat when I saw which card it was. "That's-!"

"Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon…"

"Why do you have Yuto's card, Yuya!?" I demanded.

"He was… Protecting me…" as he explained, I could feel my heart sinking and sinking and sinking. Yuya told me briefly how Yuto pushed him out of the way of Yugo's attack and took the hit. "I don't remember what happened after that. Or what happened to Yuto."

I stared at my bracelet. Glow. Please glow. Prove that Yuto is alive somewhere! Glow!

"But why would he give me this card? Yuto told me to make people smile with duelling… And then gave me this card. Why would he do that?"

"Yuya?" I asked, now extremely concerned. He looked like he was going to throw up and cry at the same time; two things Yuya doesn't do.

"I don't get it. And not just Yuto! Who the heck is Yugo!?" he face-palmed. "Why do they have the same face as me?" he faced me, the look of confusion and desperation mixed on his face. "I don't get it! What is all of this!? Yuto and Yugo… Why?"

I nodded. I suddenly realised that I felt his pain. I knew exactly what he was going through, sort of.

"Ruri!" Shun cried, facing me. "Why is Ruri here?"

"You are a lot like Ruri…" Yuto smiled wistfully.

"It's not just you. I have someone who looks just like me as well… Yuto told me…"

"Just like you? Yuto said… Ruri looks just like you?"

"Yeah, I was shocked at first. That's why he called me Ruri originally…"

"What is with this…? Yuto and Yugo look just like me… And now Ruri looks like you! What is going on?" Yuya stared at Yuto's card again.

"Kurosaki might know…" he said after a second. "He's Yuto's comrade! With Yuto and Sora gone, he's the only one I can ask about the guys who look exactly like me from different dimensions! And Ruri… He's Ruri's older brother, right?"

I nodded. "Yeah."

With a flurry of movement, Yuya tore open his drawers and pulled out his usual clothing and I quickly went out into the corridor so he could change. After petting more cats than I could count, Yuya exploded out of his room and shot down the fire pole. I sighed and followed, slipping down slowly.

"I'm going out!" Yuya announced to his confused mother, as she poured orange juice, shooting out the door.

"Wait! Going out!? Where?" she called.

"Centre Court!" Yuya shouted through the door as he pulled on his shoes. I bowed low, to show my appreciation and ran after him. Because, if he thought he wanted answers, he had no idea how badly I wanted them too.

We arrived just as Hokuto's duel ended. The lobby was full of people and we stood for a few seconds, doing nothing when-

"Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" Said person didn't even have time to blink before he was swept up in a hug from Gongenzaka. "I, the man Gongenzaka, have never been this happy! Do you know how worried I have been for the past two days!?"

"It wasn't that big a deal…" Yuya laughed, trying to push the much bigger person off him.

"No, no," my dad smiled. "We were all really worried. Like 'what would we do if Yuya doesn't wake up!?'"

"Yuya-oniichan!" three familiar voices cried from the doors. We all turned to see the three kids running towards us, showering Yuya with their relief that he was awake.

"Now when Sora comes back, we will be back to being the usual You Show Duel School!" Futoshi cheered. Yuya and I looked away, both knowing that, if that was what the 'usual' Duel School was, it was never going to be normal again.

"Sorry, Yuya. We did continue searching but… We couldn't find him…" my dad sighed.

"I'm sorry!" Futoshi burst out. "I shouldn't be celebrating either. I lost yesterday…"

"I heard…" Yuya smiled, placing his hands on his hips. "That kid used Synchro that time, didn't he?" he moved his hands to Futoshi's shoulders and told him all the things he would do next time he duelled the LDS prodigy. "There's one year till the next tournament! Keep-"

Then, he stopped talking.

He stared into space like he'd just seen a ghost.

"Yuya-oniichan?" Futoshi questioned.

"What's wrong, Yuya?" Gongenzaka queried.

"N-nothing…" he said, looking well and truly spooked.

"Darling!" the squeal echoed throughout the room, my sudden split headache warning me who it was. She was back. As Mieru babbled on about how amazing it was Yuya had woken up (along with Masumi, Hokuto and Yaiba staring at her like she was mad, not that I blamed them) she threw herself at him, desperate for a hug. I stared in shock as Yuya manoeuvred out the way like a professional and Mieru landed in a heap on the floor. He walked up to the LDS students just meters away from us.

"Sakaki Yuya?" Hokuto stared at him. "You came to watch my match? What were your thoughts after witnessing my full power? I'm on a different level from when I fought at-"

"I want to see Kurosaki." Yuya interrupted, looking strangely unhappy. "I need to talk to him."

"Talk to him?" Masumi repeated.

"It's something we need to ask him directly." I walked up beside Yuya.

"Yuzu?" she blinked, looking surprised.

"I want to meet Kurosaki," Yuya repeated. "There are a lot of things I need to ask him."

"That's impossible," Yaiba sighed. "He won't even give you guys the time of day. He hardly even talks to us."

Great, our only possible lead to Kurosaki has no hope.

"Well, since you're here, why don't you watch the next match?" Yaiba and the others walked off. "It's my match against Kachidoki Isao! I won't disappoint!"

We nodded and began walking towards the arena. There was no point running around, demanding to see Kurosaki, we would probably get thrown out. We needed another way to find him.

The duel started. I listened to my dad telling me enthusiastically that Yaiba's opponent was a favourite to win, having being a runner up last year and I did strangely remember his face but I couldn't remember why specifically-

When he punched Yaiba across the face, I remembered that Isao won through violence. He wasn't going to let Yaiba at a single Action card.

He kneed him in the stomach.

Elbowed his nose.

Tackled him to the ground.

Yaiba collapsed to the ground and lay there, twitching. Glancing over at the LDS stands, Masumi and Hokuto looked appalled. A medical team ran on and ran off, carrying him off on a stretcher, which reminded me of the last time I saw Sora.

"Yuya?" I asked, staring up at him as he stood up. He didn't say anything.

I glanced down to see that he was holding Yuto's card in his hand, reminding me that something, I didn't know what, had happened to Yuto. My stomach twisted.

A month ago, I would have done anything to get Yuto out of my life. He scared, no, terrified me. Everything about me had me on edge. Now, I felt almost exactly the same. I felt unsure of myself. I felt panicked. I felt unsafe. But that was because Yuto was… Well, I wasn't sure but he wasn't here.

Upon instruction from Nico Smiley over the microphone, I slotted my card into my disk, to reveal my next opponent.

"My duel's tomorrow." Gongenzaka told us, as he stared at his disk.

"I'll be playing Naname Mikio of the Duel Girls Club two days from now…" I announced, staring down at my disk, wondering what sort of duel that would be like.

"Kachidoki Isao!?" Tatsuya cried, grabbing my attention. They were all staring at Yuya's disk in horror.

"Yuya!" I gasped in horror.

"Yuto told me to make people smile with my duels. I don't know exactly what he wanted to tell me but… I'll do the duelling I believe in! Because I believe that will answer to Yuto's expectations of me!" Yuya said, determinedly.

"Yeah!" I nodded, noticing that Yuya still hadn't let go of Yuto's ace card.

Cat: So, hope you liked? Please review! :)

Rena: So, today's question!

This may seem as weird as hell but... What language(s) do you speak? O.o

I know, weird. But, i am a really curious person! I think different languages are awesome! So... :P

Also, anyone who classes themselves as American! What do you think of weird British spelling?

'Colour', 'mum', 'trousers' and 'favourite' being a few...

Because here in the UK we have conversations about how much the spelling of 'color' annoys us and i was just wondering if you get annoyed when we add the 'u' in the word?

Weirdest question so far! :3

Thanks everyone, you guys are my life xx
