Cold.
That was the first thing that Ebony recognized. She hadn't moved, or opened her eyes yet to know where she was, but all she could recognize was the coldness that seemed to cut her down to the bone. Slowly, and slightly hesitantly, she opened her teal eyes.
Darkness.
She sat up, and the more she tried to peer around her, the more frightened she was of the darkness. She couldn't pinpoint where she was, or what was around her. She closed her eyes again, when she heard a gentle voice speak up from the darkness.
"Hello Miss?"
Ebony turned around, her eyes widening. From the darkness, a dim light seemed to appear.
"Who's there?!" Ebony yelled, slowly standing up.
The light got brighter, and Ebony's heart stopped when a small child appeared in front of her, with a weary expression.
"I don't know who I am." The child replied, her teal eyes staring down, and silent tears dripped down her face.
"Mommy and Daddy aren't here. And a strange man hurt me. And my best friend isn't here to save me like before."
The child looked up, sobs starting to wrack her body.
"Why can't I disappear?"
Ebony fell onto her knees, gripping the shoulders of the little girl.
"Don't you ever say that! Everyone's important, you're so important."
The little girl shook her head, her auburn hair moving along with her.
"If I were important, than Mommy and Daddy wouldn't have left me alone with that man. They wouldn't have picked big brother over me. I.. I should just die!" The little girl yelled, screaming and crying.
Ebony felt tears in her eyes, and although she didn't know who the child was, she felt a searing pain go through her. She felt a pain in her heart, a pain that she had carried for so long.
"Th… They didn't mean to. They were worried for the both of you. It was only luck that they had found your brother first, and not you. I swear, they were terrified to know that you weren't in that room with your brother."
The little girl had stopped crying, and was staring at Ebony with wide, astonished eyes.
"What that man did to you was horrible. No words can describe the horrible act he committed. Don't let him get to you. Don't let him control more than that horrible moment. You are strong, you are beautiful. You are free."
Ebony was crying, before the little girl hugged her. Pulling away, the little girl gave her a big smile, and spoke.
"Than free ourselves Ebony. Free me, and move on from the hatred that had latched onto us for so long. Free us, and let's live life."
Ebony's eyes widened as she recognized the child, before she felt a sudden rush of air.
"No! Wait!" Ebony yelled, before the wind seemingly picked her up.
She saw what the wind was carrying her to. A small bit of light that seemed to be moving closer and closer with an incredible speed. Just before the wind made her hit the light, Ebony closed her eyes, and braced herself for the impact.
Warmth.
She could hear a steady sound of beeping coming from somewhere close to her, and a clean smell surrounding her. She could hear familiar murmuring, although she couldn't find the strength to move, she stopped trying when she felt a sharp pain coming from the left side of her torso.
The murmuring seemed to stop, and she could hear quiet, but hesitant footsteps. As she tried to recollect what happened, only two thoughts came to her.
One; her father had shot her.
She tried to move around, forcing herself to move, even though she couldn't find the strength.
Two; the little girl she had spoken to? That was herself.
Ebony's teal eyes opened suddenly, and as she tried to focus on the faces appearing above her, tears rolled down her eyes.
She could take her own advice, and finally be free.
