Chapter 50- Lancers, the Chosen Warriors

I woke up with a huge grin. I had barely slept at all, actually, I was so excited. I jumped out of bed to run downstairs, where I found my dad waiting in the kitchen with a bowl of cereal (the only thing I trusted him to make because it involved no electricity) and several presents sitting on the table. At the sight of them, I jumped up and down in my bare feet, rushing over.

"Morning dad!" i shouted, rushing over.

"Hold on, Yuzu!" my dad cried, as I reached for the box closest to me, a large pink one with a purple ribbon. "Let me get a piece of paper, so we can write down what's-from-who and write thank you cards."

I waited impatiently, my legs swinging back and forth on the chair as my dad grabbed a pen and a note book. I tore the package open and stared inside.

"It's a dress!" I announced, as my dad scribbled it down. I pulled it out, holding it close to me. It was a light purple, with pink sequins at the hem. I ripped the card out and told dad that it was from Aunt Aoi.

"Next one!" my dad called, as I grabbed the next one. This cycle continued over and over, as I pulled out many new belongings. Finally, I found a yellow envelope, hidden under all the parcels. I opened it to find a home-made card and something inside it. I pulled it out and gasped.

"Dad! Dad! It's a voucher for the new deck store!"

"Really!?" my dad raised his eyebrows, taking it from my hands to inspect it. "It has enough money on this to buy a whole new deck…"

I opened the card to have a load of purple glitter fall out and into my lap. I read the inside to have several scrawl drawings of two stick people, one with pink hair and a triangle dress, the other with a mess of red and green squiggles for hair. Inside, neatly, Yoko had written a happy birthday with Yuya's scrawl of a signature underneath.

"It's from Yuya," I told my dad. "Can we go buy a new deck today, Dad?"

"Well, I don't see why not… Apart from the fact you are still in your pyjamas, Yuzu…"

I ran upstairs, pulling on a top and skirt and charged downstairs to pull on my shoes and jacket. "I'm ready dad!"

He whistled, moving over to put his shoes on too. "That was fast, I wish you were so fast getting ready for school!"

"Never!"

We walked hand in hand down our street and hopped onto the bus to take us into the centre of the city. We quickly followed signs to the new store, which had just opened a few weeks before. People were flowing in and out of it but we just managed to shove our way in.

I could barely see past anyone's hips, I was so small and it was so crowded. My dad lifted me up onto his shoulders and we looked around the store.

"I want a new deck daddy, not just booster packs,"

"Good call, I think you've outgrown the beginner deck. It is very predictable because everyone has used it at one point in their lives…"

I pouted. "I'll miss Mecha Bunny though…"

"You're gonna get several cards waaaaay better than Mecha Bunny, so I wouldn't be that worried about it!"

I nodded, as he made his way over to the area of the room full of glass cases, were the decks stood on display, showing every card available. There were so many. At least 200 glass cases full of monsters, spells and traps.

I peered down into the first case, inspecting the cards. I shook my head and we moved onto the next case. There were so many to choose from; from nature decks, to ocean decks to whatever-that-is deck. However, after a few seconds, i shook my head and we would move onto the next case.

"These new decks cost an arm and a leg," my dad whistled, as he continued to shuffle down the corridor.

"Excuse me, is there anything i can help you with?" a voice called from below me. I looked down to see a short assistant with glasses smiling up at us.

"Ah, yes! My daughter here has been given a voucher for her birthday, and we were planning on buying a new deck for her, would you have any suggestions?"

"Right this way, sir," she slid off and we followed.

She brought us to the back of the shop, where she opened boxes and pulled out some cards to show me, explaining the benefits and drawbacks of all the certain decks. It was as if she was a genius, knowing everything about every deck she picked up and ones i questioned her about. There was nothing this woman didn't know and i was amazed.

"I'll take this one!" i announced, holding the pink-purple box to my chest, smiling.

"Of course! That is one of my favourites! I'll just take that to the till,"

We made our way to the till but as we did so, we passed another glass box, rested on a golden podium.

"What deck is that?" i asked pointing down at it.

"That's our rarest deck in the store. It's our Lancer deck. Many collectors are asking about it,"

"We're not buying it, Yuzu," my dad said quietly.

"I don't want it!" i told him looking down. "It looks like a deck Yuya would buy!"

"No, he wouldn't," he chuckled.

"He would,"

"He wouldn't"

"He would"

"He wouldn't!"

Then, my dad patted down his pockets, searching for the voucher, as the lady scanned the box and announced the price. He grinned sheepishly and began to peer into his jacket pockets. My stomach sank.

"Dad?" i asked weakly. "Did you leave it on the table at home?"

He froze and stood in silence for a second before quickly setting me down on my feet.

"Stay here!" he shouted. "I'mgonnarunandgetit!"

I blinked and exchanged looks with the assistant. "It's ok, i'll look after her..." she said with a smile, seconds before my dad vanished, charging out of the store to run home.

The lady and i stood side by side, awkwardly.

"Sorry about him..." i sighed, eventually.

Seriously, can you imagine that? XD

Oh yeah, and sorry about the last chapter when i made Yuya dream about Pendulum summoning when he was younger and before he discovered it X(

I had stopped and started that chapter and forgot that they were younger!

But i'm not going to change it because i'm lazy but thanks to the guest who reviewed and pointed it out :3
