Always By Your Side

Kurt holds Blaine in a death grip until the ambulance arrives, and even then they have to pry Blaine from his hands. He refuses to go home, getting inside the ambulance and sitting next to Blaine, holding his hand the entire drive.

In the waiting room, after Blaine's eye is cleansed and bandaged temporarily, Kurt doesn't let go of him for a second. He cradles him against his chest, kissing his hair and not even bothering to look around for responses. They're called into another room just as Blaine parents arrive- all three of them insist to come inside the room with Blaine, but Kurt is the only one who will physically not let go, so the nurse lets him in, and he assures Blaine's parents with a stern look that he'll tell them everything.

The doctor examines Blaine's eye, and says his cornea is scratched and that he'll need surgery; he says it's a simple one but Kurt's not sure if he believes him. He asks how soon can Blaine go into surgery, and the doctor tells him most likely tonight.

That's what he tells Blaine's parents when they're all heading to the room Blaine will be staying in until he can go home (Kurt is supporting Blaine on one side, his mother is holding his hand on the other side and his father hugging her shoulders).

When they come get Blaine for his surgery, Kurt is too tired, and he knows he won't be allowed in anyway, so he sags against his seat after kissing Blaine's hand.

He barely talks to Jean and Gerhard, knowing they are just as anxious as he is. They sit, and sit, and sit, and sit, until the nurses bring in a sleeping Blaine and smile tiredly, saying the surgery went perfect and he'll be just fine.

That night is spent in the hospital, and Blaine wakes up around five in the morning. When he does, he sees his parents, and sighs in relief when they nod at him and smile. "Where's Kurt?" he asks, frowning. The beeping from the machine that tracks his heartbeat rise, and Kurt realizes that the bandage on Blaine's eye is blocking him from his view.

Kurt squeezes his hand. "Right here," he says and Blaine turns to look at him with his unhurt eye. "Always by your side."

(Everyone who noticed- I had no idea what to name his parents! And we just studied about them in Sociology)
