Chapter 23

Unfortunately for Caroline, her sleep was short lived. She was woken from her sweet slumber just after ten minutes by Rebekah's ranting. She sat up straight in her seat and ignored the looks she got from the hybrid in the driver's seat. She only once looked at her friend who smiled at her and squeezed her hand reassuringly but they both knew that everything was far from okay. But both of them just clung onto the hope that somehow Damon would be able to help them out of this situation. Not that they believed that Kol would've left him in a condition to help them.

Caroline leaned her head against the glass window of the car and just prayed to any higher power there was that she'd be struck down by lightning or anything than have to be stuck in that car with those two originals. Rebekah had constantly been bickering or complaining about the radio and the songs being played on it while Klaus kept staring her like an obsessed freak, which he was, instead of looking at the road. She sighed and looked towards Rebekah.

"You turn the knob the other way if you want the volume to go up Rebekah" Caroline spoke up finally telling her how to use the radio. It felt déjà vu. Caroline had also taught Rebekah how to use a remote for a TV around a year back when Klaus had kidnapped her.

The blonde original turned back and nodded with a soft smile on her lips and followed the instructions. Caroline just sighed and shook her head when the other blonde originals smirked and passed her a flashing smile which she returned with a scowl.

"We'll be reaching some motel in about five minutes. I'm giving you all rest for the night considering you've all had a rough night." He said in a taunting manner. But then his expression turned serious. "But if any of you even so much as thinks to escape I will…" His threat was left incomplete when the baby vampire rolled her eyes and he caught her in the rearview mirror.

"You have something to say love?" He asked sarcastically. Caroline just looked away without answering him. Yes that was her move. She was going to ignore him until he tired off of her and let her go or even killed her. Until then she'd annoy the hell out of him.

Klaus narrowed his eyes at her menacingly. As if daring her to say something but Caroline sat back in her seat content in annoying him. Rebekah could almost sense the anger radiating off her brother so she decided to intervene before things got worse for the baby vampire.

"Yes Nik! We all know you'll kill someone or tear out a heart or liver. No one will escape. Carry on" she said shrugging when Klaus turned to glare her. But his anger was short lived as the sign for the motel came up. Klaus took a sharp turn, deliberately, disturbing all the girls from their original positions.

After compelling his way to getting the rooms, Klaus came to where the girls stood tapping their feet anxiously. First he handed Rebekah the key to her room who headed off immediately. He then turned to the doppelganger literally throwing the key in her hands and shooed her away. At the last he turned to Caroline and held out the key but when she pulled it from his grasp he didn't let it go. She gave him a stern look but he didn't back down and raised his eyebrows at her with a playful smile.

She sighed shaking her head and turned around to walk towards Elena's room when he called out for her. "Caroline. We need to talk." He said in a commanding tone. "Walk with me" he said and turned around walking the other way without even hearing her answer but she was having none of it. His attitude was just infuriating.

"No" she said.

He turned and narrowed his eyes at her. "No?" he questioned irately.

She crossed her arms over her chest. "No. I don't need to talk to you. So why don't you just leave me alone?" she hissed angrily.

He walked to her, rather marched to her and stood in front of her. Just inches away from her face. "Do I have to remind you that you agreed to do everything I say?" he prompted her. When he received no answer from her, he smirked sarcastically and nodded. "Just as I thought. Be a good girl and follow me" he taunted her with a false smile.

"Ughh! I. Don't. Want. To. Go. With. You" she said each and every word coherently so he understood her annoyance and revulsion.

He pinched the bridge of his nose and exhaled deeply. "What do you want Caroline?" he asked curiously. "What is that I have to do so that you'll be with me, that you'll give me a chance and that you'll stay with me?" he asked tiredly. His voice seemed so vulnerable but Caroline shook herself out of those thoughts. No! He was the bad guy.

"I will never be with you" she spat back at him. No way in hell did he have a chance to be with her? Not after the way he treated Tyler, her mom and her.

He inched closer to her until their noses were almost touching. "I have done everything for you… I've show kindness, mercy, forgiveness." He hissed angrily. "For you. What more do you want?!" He yelled at her.

"Look around you! You've shown NOTHING! Only that you take what you want without any remorse!" She yelled back at him with full force. "You need to get off your high horse Klaus. This is the real world not one of your sick fantasies. You can't take whatever you want and expect others to be okay with it" she reasoned and tried to calm herself.

He narrowed his eyes at her dangerously. "Who's going to stop me?" he asked in a threatening manner.

"See this is exactly what I'm talking about." She said poking him in his chest with her index finger angrily. "You compelled my mom Klaus! That's NOT okay" she spat venomously.

He looked down at where her finger had jabbed him. "You left me no choice in the matter. I tried every other way to approach you but you shut me down" he stated accusingly.

"Why don't you get it? In order for you to have someone actually 'like' you, you have to respect them. Respect their decisions even if they're not in your best interest!" she yelled at him one last time and turned away only to be met face to face with him again.

"DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON ME!" Klaus roared angrily. His voice frustrated and very loud.

"I SHOULD'VE TURNED MY BACK ON YOU AGES AGO!" she shouted back with equal fury and anger. Both of them stared and glowered each other for a good couple of minutes until a voice broke them out of their glaring competition.

"And here I thought I would've missed all the drama" the voice came snapping them both out of the trance. There stood Kol Mikaelson arms crossed in front of his chest, smirking, leaning against the wall.

Caroline took that moment as the perfect distraction and flashed to Elena's room without once looking back. On reaching there, she immediately slammed the door and locked it. That wouldn't stop him from coming in anyway but it was just another one of her human habits.

She held her hand up to her friend. "Please not now… Can I bunk with you? I don't want to deal with Klaus" She asked pleadingly. She knew Elena would never deny her so she didn't wait for an answer and jumped onto the bed leaving more than enough space for her friend.

Klaus was beyond furious that once again his baby brother had interrupted him whilst having his moment with Caroline. But this time, unlike at the ball, the moment was not very pleasant. He was sure that her words stung him deep and he regretted his rash actions. But then again she was the one who wasn't willing to give him a chance despite all his efforts. He'd have to deal with her attitude later. Right now he had to teach his brother some manners.

"Kol!" he acknowledged and moved to his brother. "How good of you to finally join us" he said in a displeased manner. No matter how much Kol annoyed him, he needed Kol for his plan to move forward. Clearly after his first few hours with the three girls, it was clear he wouldn't be able to handle the three of them together. Maybe one by one. He knew, of course, Caroline was first on that list.

"Of course how could I not come? It's not every day the great Niklaus Mikaelson requires your aid" he retorted sarcastically rolling his eyes in the process. He was about to go to Europe when he received a call from his brother demanding his help. Or as Nik called it, 'politely asking'. Now he would have to accommodate his brother's evil plans into his own.

"Enough with the theatrics Kol. You will take the doppelganger and Bekah tomorrow. I'll join you shortly." He ordered in his natural bossy tone. "Maybe in a day or two. Depends" he shrugged.

Kol nodded in understanding. "I don't understand why you still haven't landed the blonde spitfire" Kol said. His voice laced with disappointment and pity.

Klaus clenched his fists and squared his jaw. "Say another word and I'll tear out your liver" he warned and started walking back to his room.

"She's a feisty one Nik. Force won't win you her affections" he heard his baby brother call after him. He stopped dead in his tracks. Kol didn't believe in anything even remotely similar to love. He must be teasing him.

"Try being nice for a change" he taunted one last time and walked away to his own room. Soon after Klaus followed his example and walked to his room.

He lay on his bed for what seemed like hours but were only mere minutes. He tried to sleep or rest but his mind kept drifting to the conversation he had with Caroline. She was right in one sense. He didn't respect her choices and her decisions. Compelling her mother was a rash decision but it was important for her to be completely free of all bonds of her old life in order to start a new one with him. She would eventually accept his advances and him. But right now, this was the toughest time for her. She talked to him with such hatred and revulsion.

He tried to think of all the things he had done which harmed Caroline. For starters he got her kidnapped for the ritual. Then took her as insurance to keep Stefan in check though his intentions changed afterwards. Then he made punished her for trying to deceive him by not telling him about Elena's survival and their plan with Katerina. After that he killed Tyler, her supposed boyfriend. Then he drained her best friend off her blood. He had done so many things that one way or the other affected her.

He had never thought of all the things he had done, directly or indirectly, that hurt Caroline up until tonight when she yelled at him and made him realize everything. And now he had made things worse by compelling her mother.

But now he could only hope to make things better. He needed to go smooth with Caroline but first he needed some alone time for that because everyone was just a reminder that she shouldn't give him a chance.

A/N:

Sorry guys, this chapter didn't turn out as good as I wanted. Not much intimate Klaroline moments and all but this kind of a chapter was needed. Klaus needs to learn to respect Caroline and he won't just learn that overnight. It'll take time so please wait and please no harsh reviews. If you don't like it please don't review but such cruel words break my heart.

Being mean is easy. It's like cyber bullying. Please have a little respect for the people who write. This is fanfiction. It's all about our imagination. I always appreciate positive criticism but negative remarks and abuses lead me to think to not write ever again. A few people sent me PM(s) abusing me and telling me to rot in hell. Well you should know you had the desired effect, I cried overnight thinking what I did wrong enough to make someone hate me so much.

If you don't want me to continue, please say so. I'll stop writing right away. It's as simple as that.

Thank you to everyone else who supported me throughout this journey. I love and care for you all. You guys are the only people that kept me writing. I really appreciate you support. Take care.
