Chapter 30
A/N: Hi! First of all sorry for disappearing. I am the biggest idiot, I know. Long story short, I went into some serious depression after New Year, when my scans weren't as good as the previous ones and I totally isolated myself and I was scared. I am scared, of dying. So I kind of hibernated. Susan and , thankfully pulled me out of those horrible days. So this update is because of them.
So to apologize for my disappearance, I am announcing that I am posting TWO new KLAROLINE stories. DARK because that's all I can write. Along with ONESHOTS! Yaaay! And in the one shots I will try other couples like Kalijah, Delena, Stelena, Kennett, Stebekah etc. But for those couples you'll have to wait because Klaroline comes naturally. Others I have to "focus" on.
Klaus was furious. Of course he had expected his noble brother to come but he didn't expect him to show up so early. He had started regretting even asking his siblings for their help when he had decided to take Caroline, Elena and Bonnie. Of course, his first intention was to kill the witch but he knew that Caroline would never forgive him after that and he already had a lot of things he had to be forgiven for.
Obviously his brother wasn't stupid enough to bring the Bennett witch with him, knowing that would tick him off in the wrong way. However, Elijah was still angry as to why Klaus had taken Caroline. In Elijah's eyes the poor girl had been turned without her consent and then had been passed around by the Mystic Falls group, always helping one person or the other. Klaus, however, was annoyed about his brother taking such a keen interest in his girl. Yes, he had openly admitted it that Caroline was, now, in fact, his girl and frankly he did not like all the attention that any other man gave her.
Elijah had sighed and asked him to think about everything before flashing away. He wanted to save the girls but he knew that Elena had been trapped because of her unique blood while Caroline had, inevitably, gained the attention of his brother and whoever once gained his attraction was never returned. Maybe eventually she would get used to it and succumb to Klaus' advances.
All of Klaus' siblings knew not to mess with him or to even attempt to talk to him when he marched in their current residence. Of course he was having another tantrum so Rebekah and Kol wisely left taking Elena with them, knowing their brother could snap at any moment. Kol was about to get Caroline when Rebekah grabbed his arm and halted him. "Leave her" she hissed at him.
"He'll kill her if she even says hello to him in a way that doesn't please him" he answered sarcastically. It wasn't that he cared for anyone particularly but this new family trip was more interesting with the addition of the baby vampire. Besides it would be a shame if someone with so much beauty died on his watch.
Rebekah rolled her eyes at that. "If there's one person that's safe here, it's her. He won't let her die. Besides she's in his room, if he finds her missing, we're all doomed" Rebekah reasoned though her intentions were different. The only person that could calm him down now was Caroline and she would only be able to do that once she was there.
"Fine. Best of luck to her then" Kol said before flashing off with Rebekah hot on his tail.
When Klaus entered the room, he wasn't expecting Caroline to be sitting on the armchair fully engrossed in reading a book. Or at least she was until he slammed the door so hard that the walls rattled. She looked up from her book to see Klaus glaring her. She looked away from his burning gaze and focused her eyes on her book again.
Klaus entered the room and quickly went to the bathroom and when he exited after five minutes, he had changed into his sleepwear. Thinking of sleepwear he glanced towards Caroline again. She had changed from her dress to her a simple grey tee with shorts. Shorts!?
Seriously, how was he supposed to calmly sleep with her wearing those next to him in bed? "Go and change" he ordered her.
Caroline's eyebrows furrowed. This was the only thing she had. Or Rebekah had given her.
"This is the only thing I have to wear right now. Besides I'm just going to sleep" she said shrugging before putting the book down and heading towards the bed.
Klaus grumbled something under his breath before walking out of the room. He came back with a blood bag and tossed it in her direction. "Drink" he said harshly.
Caroline looked at the blood bag skeptically. She could feel her veins coming out to play but she decided to take a deep breath and calm herself down. "I don't need it" she refused thinking this was a trap so she'd have to admit that she had let the girl go and she had a feeling he would not be very happy with it considering that he was trying to bring out her 'inner monster'.
Klaus sighed and ran his hand through his hand roughly. "I know you let the girl go. Now feed" he told her. His eyes blazing with anger and annoyance.
Deciding it was best for her to just shut up and feed, she quietly opened the blood bag and started gulping down the blood. Klaus kept buzzing around the room before he sat down on the armchair that previously Caroline was sitting in. He placed a finger on his lip as he observed her drinking and relishing the liquid oozing down her throat.
Caroline finished the blood bag in record time and closed her eyes relishing the taste of the blood. When she opened her eyes she saw two blue piercing eyes staring her. She set aside the blood bag on the nightstand, embarrassed that she was enjoying being a monster, and quietly lay down.
Klaus, however, had other ideas. "Next time you free someone, I will not only hunt and kill the person but I will make sure to punish you so that you remember the consequences of your actions" he threatened her.
This threatening did not sit well with Caroline as she sat up with an angry expression on her face and glared him. "You can't tell me what to do or what not. I am with you to save my friends but that doesn't mean I have to agree with everything you say" she pointed out crossing her arms over her chest.
Klaus narrowed his eyes at her. "Clearly you still haven't understood what I'm capable off love. You might want to change that tone if you don't want to get into trouble" he warned her again.
"You're just unbelievable" she huffed before getting out of bed and moving towards the door.
Within the next minute, Klaus had her pinned against the door with his hands wrapped around her neck. Caroline struggled against his iron grip but he tightened his hold on her. He leaned forward as his lips brushed against her ear. "Listen closely love because I won't say this again. You are mine. You will do as I want. There are no ifs and buts about it" he whispered in her ear.
Caroline clawed at his hands desperate for some air to pass through her windpipe. "L-let... go" she stuttered out.
"Say it first."
"Say it!" he repeated more forcefully and loosened his hold on her neck for her to cough out the words he wanted.
Caroline narrowed her eyes as she coughed and wheezed. "Go to hell" she choked out.
The moment it was out Klaus grabbed her neck in an excruciatingly tight grip and smirked. "Wrong answer love" he said in a bittersweet voice before slamming her head against the door. Caroline groaned in pain.
He sighed when he saw the pained expression on her face. He didn't want to cause her pain. He was angry. No furious and she ultimately became the victim to his fury. He looked from her closed eyes down to her pointed little nose to her rosy, plush lips. Oh how tempting her beautiful, pink, sumptuous lips were. He could smell the blood she had taken earlier.
He licked his, suddenly, dry lips and slowly brought his lips to hers. Her response was immediate. Hers lips moving slowly with his. His hand left her neck only to tangle itself in her hair while the other grabbed onto her waist. Caroline's hands slowly came up from her sides to one cupping his cheek and the other pulling at his hair.
Unlike all their previous kisses, this one was unhurried and passionate. Caroline softly ran her fingers over his stubble loving the feel of it under her fingertips while Klaus stroked her hair, gently tugging her to part her lips. Their tongues danced together, exploring each and every inch of each other's mouths. Caroline moaned slightly boasting his ego to a whole new level. Hearing her moan, Klaus tugged her head back to go deeper while his hand started moving under her shirt.
He pinned her to the wall with his hips and ran his hand on her back. When they broke apart, both of them were panting but that didn't stop Klaus from his exploration. He trailed his mouth from her lips to her jaw to her ear back to her jaw to down her throat, leaving butterfly kisses. Caroline closed her eyes and moaned. She tugged at his hair to bring his mouth back to hers.
Klaus growled at her impatience as he lightly nibbled at the skin of her neck leaving red little marks in his wake. Marking her as his. He kissed all the way back to her jaw trailing hot open mouthed kisses. He stopped kissing her, however, when he felt something wet on her cheek. He pulled back and looked at her face in confusion only to see tears streaming down her cheeks while she moaned. It confused him to no end.
He pulled back completely before looking at her. He cupped her cheeks gently, trying to keep his frustration in control. "Caroline love what's wrong?" he asked softly, hiding any sign of annoyance or frustration.
Caroline opened her eyes and shook her head with a small smile. "Nothing's wrong" she said but what worried him was that the tears didn't stop.
"Sweetheart, I need you to tell me. If you don't want to do this right now, we don't have to. It's always been your choice and it always will be" he explained her tenderly hoping to ease her a little but it had the complete opposite reaction and she started sobbing uncontrollably while shaking her head.
"Nothing's wrong" she said once more in an almost… robotic voice. Klaus's eye widened as he stumbled back at the realization. Caroline had been compelled. Someone had dared to compel his Caroline. Something he hadn't done himself.
He ran his hand down his face, through his hair in frustration and disappointment. He actually thought that Caroline was starting to open up to him. To be with him. Of course, fate just had to be cruel with him but most of all, he was angry that someone had compelled Caroline in this manner and he couldn't help but think of the agony Caroline must have been going through.
He stepped closer to her and placed his hands back on her cheeks, wiping the tears falling on her pink cheeks with his thumbs as gently as possible. "Who did this Caroline?" he asked firmly hoping it wasn't Rebekah. However, deep down, he had been thinking that something was wrong with how optimistic she was.
"No one" she answered blankly.
Klaus sighed realizing he had to compel her. "I'm going to have to compel the information out of you sweetheart. But I swear I won't ask anything else" he promised and watched her alarmed expression soften just a tad.
He looked deep into her eyes as his pupils dilated, making hers widen alongside his own. "Who compelled you and what did they compel you to do?" he asked, internally feeling the blankness in her eyes tugging at his heart uncomfortably.
"Rebekah compelled me. She said not to resist your advances. She told me to tell my deepest desires for you to show without any inhibition" she told him quoting her exact words. "She told me not to repel you or turn you down" she answered numbly. "She told me not to let anyone else know of this conversation or to leave any hints for them" she added dazedly.
Klaus closed his eyes and breathed almost a sigh of relief. At least this wasn't all forced. It was Caroline's deepest desire but still compelling it out of her was wrong and Rebekah was going to pay. No matter what. Besides it had been too long since his siblings had last learned not to mess with his affairs.
When he opened his eyes they were cold and distant. "You are free from Rebekah's compulsion Caroline. You can go back to as you were before Rebekah compelled" he compelled. "Just like it never happened" he whispered as he watched her repeat his instructions in a daze.
Caroline stumbled back and hit her back against the wall as soon as Klaus stepped back, breaking eye contact with her. Her hand flew up to her forehead and she ran a shaky hand through her blonde curls. Tears of relief sprung to her eyes and she smiled a little before launching herself on Klaus.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, embracing him. "Thank you" she whispered in his ear. Klaus, however, remained stoic and stiff before he relaxed but he did not return the hug.
Embarrassed, Caroline, stepped back and smiled at him sheepishly before walking towards the bed. She stood at the edge of it, unsure how to continue their conversation.
Klaus took that as cue to go hunt his little sister. As soon as he turned his back towards her and reached the threshold of the bedroom door, he stopped when he heard her voice.
"You know tonight you just proved that there's still parts of you that can be saved." She stated. "I'm glad you did" she added a little proudly.
Klaus almost smiled at that but he was too angry to turn around and properly gloat about it. He needed to deal with Rebekah right now. So instead of turning back, he walked out without giving her a second glance.
Caroline immediately flopped down onto the bed with a huff. She smiled a little. Even though her overall situation still sucked. Yes, she was still technically kidnapped by the original hybrid. Yes, her boyfriend, no ex-boyfriend hated her guts, her one best friend's life was in danger while the other was being constantly drained of her blood and her mom didn't remember her but she felt relaxed. Relieved that she was no longer under anyone's mind influence. And mostly she was happy that Klaus had proven to be worth saving.
When it was well into the morning, Rebekah came back with Elena and Kol in tow. From the looks of it, the place still seemed intact which was a sign that there had been lash out from Klaus. All of them plopped down on the couch.
"Rebekah. Kol" came Klaus' cold voice.
"Thank God you didn't trash the place Nik. That would've been unfortunate" she remarked looking towards the furniture.
As soon as Klaus was in the room, in Elena's view, the brunette ran towards Klaus' room. "Caroline" she mumbled on her way. Rebekah rolled her eyes while Kol grinned.
"So I'm assuming Caroline darling's still alive?" Kol asked smiling smugly.
Klaus, however, ignored his jab and moved towards the blonde. "You know, just two days ago, Caroline could not bear the sight of my face and now she was simply fawning over me" he informed them casually sitting down by the fireplace in the seat in front of his siblings.
"Yes we know Nik. Miracle right?" Kol drawled rolling his eyes at his brother's thanklessness. "Poor girl. Must've lost her mind to even favor you in my presence" he joked but to his surprise, he received no comeback or witty remark. Or anything.
He looked towards his right side to see his baby sister in a staring competition with his elder brother. He looked between the two of them back and forth. Both were unrelenting to let their gaze down. "Is there something I'm missing?" he asked watching the guilty look on Rebekah's face.
Klaus smiled a cool and menacing smile as he leaned forward placing his elbows on his knees. "What you're missing is that our treacherous baby sister compelled Caroline after I specifically made it clear that I did not need another mind controlled puppet" he hissed at her in a bitter-sweet voice. "Isn't that right Rebekah?" he asked.
Kol's eyes sparkled as he understood the meaning of this drama. And by the look on Niklaus' face and the way Rebekah gulped, he was sure there was more entertainment to come. He rubbed his hands together. "My my, sister you've been busy haven't you?" He questioned too adding fuel to the fire.
"Nik… She had to just look forward her… her morals" Rebekah argued. "Besides I didn't compel her to do anything that she didn't want to. I simply told her to ignore a few minor details" she reasoned, her voice took a pleading tone.
"You had no business to interfere in my matters!" Klaus shouted at her, making her flinch.
Rebekah stood up. "So you're going to yell at me just because of a baby vampire?" Rebekah accused narrowing her eyes at her brother.
Klaus pointed his finger at her. "Don't make this about me Rebekah. This is about what you did" he told her. His voice, now, surprisingly calm. "And now you have to pay for it" he said before taking something out of his jacket's inner pocket.
Rebekah's eyes widened as he saw what he had in his hand. A silver dagger with white oak ash on it. "I cannot believe you're going to dagger me for trying to help you" she whined, standing still with shock.
Klaus shrugged. "When I ask for your help, you run off to play a pathetic human girlfriend and when I ask you not to interfere you're always so eager" he commented sarcastically slowly moving towards her.
Rebekah edged away from him. "Nik I've always been by your side" Rebekah articulated, looking at the object in his hand warily.
While Rebekah and Klaus argued Kol took his chance to escape the room and quickly went into his brother's room. He might not like Rebekah but she was family and having been gone through the daggered phase, he didn't want his baby sister to go through it again. So he was going to give it one shot and if it didn't work than Rebekah had dug up her own grave.
As soon as he opened the door, he saw Elena and Caroline falling down behind it. He smirked as they stood up embarrassed that they were caught listening in to the fight going on downstairs.
"Well well, some people have been eavesdropping!" he commented with a smug grin as Caroline stood up and helped Elena stand.
Both of the girls glared him and tried to listen in to the conversation between Klaus and Rebekah. "Look, I come here in peace. I don't want to bother you but Nik is going to dagger Rebekah" he told them getting straight to the point. "Since I've been there and I know it's a rather unpleasant feeling so I'd rather if he didn't" he explained. Caroline nodded but Elena seemed less than interested. "Caroline, darling, I assume by your reaction that you don't want that to happen. Big heart I must say" he stated again. "Anyways, please come downstairs and knock some sense into my brother before he daggers my darling sister" he ordered her but it sounded more like a desperate plea to her. Maybe Kol cared for his family after all.
"The mood Klaus is in, he'll kill her" Elena said standing in front of Caroline protectively.
"And that is why I'll be there to protect her if he even tries. I give you my word" he said and looked at Caroline. All humor left his voice. Caroline nodded slowly before flashing downstairs with him.
Once they reached the living room, they saw Klaus pinning Rebekah against the wall with one hand raised in air with the dagger as if just seconds away from attacking her. "Klaus stop" Caroline yelled immediately.
Klaus turned to look at Caroline, still not releasing his grip on his sister. "Caroline, love, go upstairs" he said simply.
"Klaus please. Just hear me out okay?" she said moving towards him, barefoot still in her sleepwear, holding her hands up indicating peace. "Please" she added giving him her best smile.
Klaus grit his teeth before releasing Rebekah and stepping back. "Fine" he spat angrily.
Rebekah immediately flashed behind Kol, for protection even though she knew he would never step up to Klaus to save her.
"You don't have to dagger Rebekah. I know what she did was wrong but in her own… freaky kind of way she was maybe trying to help you" Caroline reasoned unsure of her own logic at the moment.
Klaus looked at her bemused. "You think Rebekah wanted to help me?" he asked incredulously.
"Yes" Caroline answered unsurely.
Klaus chuckled a few moments confusing everyone, before he stifled his laughter. "She compelled you Caroline" he told her seriously, as if she was dumb, after a beat of silence. "Need I remind you that you were the one crying and sobbing not so long ago?" he pointed out.
"I know and that is why it is my right to decide whether to punish her or not" she said. "She didn't do anything to you and I think being saved by the person she targeted is the biggest punishment for her as it is" Caroline hissed looking at Rebekah. At least the original had some sense to look embarrassed and ashamed.
"You know, love, if you keep freeing everyone, one day no one will take your threats seriously and you will end up as collateral damage" Klaus whispered in her ear before placing the dagger in her hand and storming off to his room bumping into Elena along the way.
Kol smirked at that. "Well done darling!" he appreciated her and walked towards her but she held the dagger towards him and gave him a warning glare. "You can hand it over now" he added wiggling his eyebrows at her.
Caroline scoffed. "Yeah in your dreams" she murmured before following Klaus, still clutching the dagger in her hand.
"I'll only looking forward to seeing you in my dreams darling" he called out after her and when she turned to give him a disgusted look, he winked at her flirtatiously and at that moment Caroline thought, 'What have I pulled myself into?'
