Living For You So You Can Hide
Blaine sits with his legs crossed on the bed. He doesn't cry; he ran out of tears long ago.
His phone buzzes approximately every five minutes. It's far away on the nightstand and he doesn't bother reaching for it. He just stares vacantly at the wall.
It's like his mind is entirely empty, just blank. No sounds- other than the phone buzzing, which he ignores- and no memories. Just silence and the white wall in front of him.
A keychain rattles outside the front door. He doesn't wonder who it is when he hears the key going in the lock and the door opening; his brain just echoes the sound, replaying it until there's a new sound to play.
Soft footsteps. His name being called- he doesn't reply. Kurt in the doorway. Kurt saying his name in a small, pleading tone. He still doesn't reply. He's not sure if he can.
Kurt walks closer, but for once, Blaine doesn't feel an instant urge to get up and meet him halfway. He's just empty. Clean, as if his insides have been bleached.
Slowly- Blaine doesn't wonder why slowly- he sits on the bed next to Blaine. He doesn't touch. Blaine doesn't move. He stares vacantly at the wall.
Kurt takes a deep breath, and puts his hand on the small of Blaine's back, supporting. The pressure doesn't bother him, or appeal to him, so he stays rigid.
Kurt says his name again. Blaine doesn't know why he keeps saying his name. The sound just goes through him like soft wind; the word slowly stops making sense.
Then, Kurt grips him tighter and moves him, so he lets himself be moved- he's pulled into a hug, and automatically closes his eyes when Kurt's arms wrap around him.
Blaine feels the blatant pressure of Kurt's lips against his head, and they breathe in sync for a few seconds before Kurt starts humming.
"Playground, school bell rings, again…" he sings softly. "Rainclouds, come to play…"
Without realizing it, Blaine joins the next line. "Has no one told you she's not breathing?"
Kurt strokes his back soothingly. "Hello, I'm your mind, giving you someone to talk to, hello…"
They hum in harmony, and Blaine finds his tears again, lets them rolls heavily down his face as he sings along with Kurt.
After they finish the last night, Kurt breathes, and starts again. They keep singing until their throats are aching and mouths dry, and then Blaine cries silently in Kurt's arms until the sky grow dark and he falls asleep.
