Ten Years Later…

Kim was currently making her way to school, enjoying the summer breeze the coursed through her hair, enjoying how the warm sun light felt upon the flesh exposed by her clothing, she inhaled deeply, taking in all the scents that made up the air around her, doing her best to ignore the strong scent of pollution and exhaust fumes of passing cars and focused on the scattered local vegetation and the inhabitants. Closing her eyes so as to fully enjoy the scent of the surrounding area.

She slowly opened her eyes when she picked up the familiar scent of a close friend, her heartbeat sped up, she slowed her pace so as to allow her to catch up.

"Hey Bonnie" Kim greeted flashing the brunette a cheerful smile over her shoulder.

"How do you do that?" Bonnie moaned, whenever she tried to sneak up on her friend she was always caught.

"Uh, uh, that's my little secret" Kim teased, lightly tapping the side of her nose, Bonnie let out a small sigh, each time Kim offered the same reply and she did have to admit it was frustrating at times.

"So you do Barkin's essay?" Bonnie asked, lightly shifting her backpack into a more comfortable position.

"Yeah, you?" Kim asked, her cheerful demeanour never fading.

"Err…not exactly" Bonnie admitted, flashing her friend a sheepish grin.

"And you were hoping to use mine as a template for your own" Kim sighed.

"Well…yeah" Bonnie admitted, her grin altering into a cheekier one for lack of a better word "So can I?" she asked, attempting to mimic Kim's puppy dog pout and nearly succeeding.

"Sure…next time make your eyes a little bigger" Kim replied, taking in another whiff of the air, though a much lighter one. She picked up on Bonnie's shampoo and her perfume , she may not be a fan of chemicals but she had to admit the combination with Bonnie's natural scent was actually pretty good.

The duo rounded the final street corner that led them to the local high school. They made their way towards the main entrance.

"I'll stop by my locker and lend you my essay, just get it back to me before the end of lunch" Kim said as she and Bonnie headed towards her locker.

"No problem, I should be able to get the essay written during third period" Bonnie replied, hoping to reassure her friend.

"Uhuh, sure you will" Kim shot back, her tone one of sarcasm. She opened her locker to reveal a monitor and screen occupying the whole upper half of it, beneath it was an assortment of text books and papers, Kim reached and pulled out a small pile of paper, a total of three sheets, two double sided and one not, she handed them to Bonnie.

"Kim, Barkin would have been happy with just two sides" Bonnie chuckled, glancing up at her friend incredulously.

"I'm a perfectionist, so what?" Kim challenged.

"No comment" Bonnie replied, averted her gaze in a near childlike fashion.

"Smart move" Kim replied smugly.

"Uhuh, so anyway, cheerleading try outs are after school today, maybe you should give it a try" Bonnie proposed.

"Bonnie, cheerleading's your thing, not mine" Kim countered.

"Oh and what is your thing?" Bonnie challenged.

"Helping people out" Kim answered.

"You mean the requests you get on your website?" Bonnie asked.

"Yeah" Kim replied.

"I think that's less helping more other people imposing their problems on you for low prices" Bonnie remarked, Kim stiffened.

"You might have a point there" Kim admitted grudgingly, recalling how her neighbour had her look after a dozen cats while she went on holiday for three weeks, only one litter box, a dozen cats, all seeming to hate her and try to claw her the minute they laid their eyes on her.

"But lately it's been more about me helping people" Kim insisted.

"Yeah, saving the world, for free, more work for you but no money to buy Club Banana clothes" Bonnie teased, her tone hinting on sarcasm.

"You should give it a try Bonnie, I may not be raking it in but it feels nice, helping people" Kim replied 'That and maybe one day I'll find out what I am' she mentally added.

"Tell you what, if you join the cheerleaders I'll go with you on your next mission" Bonnie proposed, Kim let out a small sigh.

"If you come I'll try cheerleading but I reserve the right to quit" Kim countered.

"Fine, just try it" Bonnie pushed.
