So I'm going on a fieldtrip- next update will be on Friday :)
What you need to know for this fic is that it's pre-Klaine, they're friends, Blaine is homeless, and this is how Kurt finds out.
The Warmth of Your Heart
"Blaine?" asks Kurt when he notices the familiar figure sitting on the bench, and starts walking quicker, pulling at the hood covering his head to avoid the falling snow.
Blaine looks up at him, looking so small, tired and cold; once he realizes Kurt in headed his way, he gathers something from the bench and shoves it behind his back, leaning onto it and waving at Kurt with a smile.
"Aren't you freezing?" says Kurt over the noise the wind is making, frowning at Blaine's too-light jacket. "What are you doing on a bench in the middle of a snowstorm?"
"Nah, I'm okay," Blaine replies in a rusty voice, and coughs.
"You'll be sick!" You already kinda are, aren't you. "Come on, let's go get some coffee, get you warmed up."
Blaine looks like he's trying to find an excuse not to. "I- um, I lost my wallet." Oh, Blaine Anderson, you crappy liar.
"My treat." Kurt reaches out, but Blaine doesn't take his hand. "Come on," he grabs Blaine's hand; Blaine stays still. "Coffee. Warmth. Come on," he pulls a little, and Blaine, who clearly wasn't expecting the pull, falls forward slightly, revealing an opened bag behind him; from the short look Kurt manages to sneak, there's a colorful blanket in it. "Is that a blanket in your bag?" he asks.
Blaine's eyes widen, and he lets go of Kurt's hand quickly, leaning back. "No."
"Blaine, why are you being weird? You're sitting on a bench in the street during a storm, with a blanket in your bag- oh." The pieces click together in his brain as he says it. "Blaine… are you…"
Blaine bows his head, pulling his legs onto the bench and wrapping his arms around them. He doesn't reply.
"You're homeless?"
Blaine shrugs. "Don't pity me, Kurt. You can figure out why I didn't want to tell anyone."
Kurt understands that; Blaine is a proud guy. He wouldn't be able to stand everyone pitying him all the time, offering him things or making him a charity case. "No pity. Coffee?" he asks, only realizing the entire sentence didn't make it out of his mouth after Blaine smiles.
"Okay. But I didn't really lose my wallet, you know, so I can pay for myself."
"I- I wouldn't ask you not to. But I'm getting a cheesecake, and we're sharing." He offers his hand once again to Blaine, who takes it without hesitating.
"I never thought I'd see the day when Kurt Hummel will share his cheesecake," Blaine teases.
"Shut up," says Kurt with a roll of his eyes.
And if the waitress thinks they're on a date because they're sharing a cake, and Kurt makes a show about pulling his wallet out first and paying, oh well. Blaine can deal with one free coffee; they went on a date.
