Sorry it's been so long, things got crazy again. But I'm back! Moving right along now. Hope you guys like it. Don't forget to leave a review. Much loves and enjoy 3

They stop at an overgrown house and quickly do the routine sweep, Daryl comes down stairs, plucking an owl, which looks more appetizing than the cans of dog food Carl found.

The food Daryl and Sam added wasn't much, and went quickly with so many mouths to feed, they are getting desperate, but Rick hurls the dog food into the empty fireplace. Before anyone dares say anything, T-Dog gives the sign and they have to move out again. Sam tries to hide the grumbling of her stomach, not wanting anyone to know that she's been eating less so Lori and Carl can have more of it, both needing it more than she does.

Daryl hands her a strip of jerky before they get back on the bike. "Just eat yer damn food."

She smiles to herself and settles behind him.

Daryl pushes off the ground and walks away from the fire, grabbing his bow from near his bike and heading off towards the woods.

"Where are you going?" Rick asks.

"That owl didn't quite hit the spot, gonna see if I can find something else."

Maggie rushes over as soon as Daryl is out of sight, eager to finally hear Sam's story. "They're alive? How do you know? Why did you come back instead of fining them? How was the drive? What did you do all winter?"

When she finally stops for a breath Sam laughs and starts. "My sister left a note, they found a good group, like this one. She had to sneak back to the city to leave it for me or our mom would have had a fit. But they moved a lot she said and the note was from a while ago, so I would have no idea where to start looking. And I came back because of all you guys."

"Aw!" Maggie smiles and hugs Sam "You're so sweet."

"As for the rest of it, there were a few incidents," she smiles, trying to decide hot much to tell her "I got trapped by two walkers at one of the first houses we stopped at. That was just stupid. I just didn't listen to Daryl when I should have. But he got kidnapped too. Not anyone's fault, but still."

"Wait, hold on. He got kidnapped?" Maggie asks with a slight grin "I've gotta hear this one."

Sam looks at the gap in the woods Daryl disappeared into and quietly tells Maggie the story "I told him I loved him after that. And we…"

Sam trails off and looks away, trying to hide her blush.

"No!" Maggie squeals, and quiets when a few people look over at them "Oh my god! You didn't. you gotta tell me."

Sam laughs and shakes her head, glad to finally have another girl to talk to "I can't, he would so kill me if he even thought anyone else knew. What about you and Glen, there's gotta be some stories to tell."

Maggie blushes and looks away as Daryl steps back into the clearing, raising an eyebrow at the girls, but doesn't stop.

"Rick." Daryl motions him to follow.

Rick starts to speak, but follows Daryl back into the woods.

"We had to move around a lot," Maggie continues "and my dad is always right there. We couldn't do much."

"Wow, it's huge. There's so much space." Sam surveys the prison in awe.

"We could close that gate and clear the yard by nightfall." Rick says "With those fences we'd be protected, we can make it work."

"We'll be safe." Lori reaches out to touch his arm, but drops her hand when he flinches away.

Rick assigns everyone jobs, Daryl is in one of the guard towers, covering Rick. Sam is on the inner fence with Beth, Glen and Maggie. They draw as many walkers over to them as they can, giving Rick enough time to get a start up to the gate. Sam shoves a borrowed blade through the chain link, dropping walker after walker but watching Rick the whole time. Seconds after he closes the inner gate, Rick gives the command to light it up and they switch to the guns. As soon as the last walker stops moving the group rushes into the yard, still in awe that they have found somewhere so untouched.

Daryl watches the fire crackle a few yards away from the overturned bus he is using as a look out post and listens to the walkers rattle the fence. One of the figures around the fire stands up and starts walking towards the bus, as they get closer he can tell it's Sam. He helps her climb on top of the bus and takes the plate she hands him.

"I knew you wouldn't leave watch to get food, so I brought it to you." she smiles at him in the dark. "Need to keep up our energy for tomorrow. I never thought I would break into prison, much less be excited about staying there."

"Tell me 'bout it." he says around a mouth full of food "I always tried to stay as far away as I could."

"You think we'll be able to actually stay here?"

"Maybe," he shrugs "Rick's gotten us this far. And it seems safe enough."

Sam watches the dark figure of Rick make yet another round, checking the fences, making sure it's secure, but Sam knows a small part of him is trying to avoid Lori. It seems the tension between them over Shane's death hasn't gotten any better since they left months ago.

She elbows Daryl, trying to avoid thinking about the now complicated group dynamic.

"It's probably dark enough over here, think we could fool around a little and not get caught?" she suggests playfully.

"Pfft, right," he scoffs, but cracks a smile "c'mon, let's get back."
