A/n I got another question! This one is from Leo0256 and she asks about "How they can speak English and write in Japanese".

This is actually a concept that was started in the comics. I didn't know it at first, I didn't think Usagi actually spoke English but I thought it was the "Battle Nexus" that translated for him. But when you watch more episodes with him in it you realize this isn't the answer that is because Usagi is an American Comic despite its Japanese origins. Honestly, I had to come up with my own 'excuse' in order for it to feel right.

In this world (I really need a name for this world, how about Alt Edo?)You have to remember this is a feudalistic time; therefore most of the population CAN'T read or write. But most people do speak English due from the assault of immigrants for so many years. That is why I refer to Japanese as "Formal Speak". And most of them did learn to write a very young age, so even though they, in majority of the day, speak English they do write in Japanese with ease.

Bonds Beyond

"I don't believe you."

"I don't get why it's so surprising to you. We're all ninja's: Raph, Mikey, Donnie our father, we've been trained that way." Leo looked back over to his companion in the other seat before turning his eyes back over the wheel to keep an eye on the road, "You're not the first alternate "Don." We've met and they've ALL been ninja's." though he made a mental note for the "Super Turtles".

"So you're' a ninja?"

"Yeah"

"And you LIKE being a ninja?"

"Well yeah." Leo turned the wheel pulling into the familiar warehouse that acted as a perfect hideout for their various extra automobiles that Don seemed create on the smallest of whims (normally when he got done creating something, everyone in the lair would know by bust of evil laughter that would come from his lab). He pulled up to the spot that Don had marked for the turtle taxi before unbuckling his seatbelt," Why does this keep surprising you?" he climbed out of the car to move over to his side of the car pulling the door open

"Cause MY Leo absolutely HATES ninjas'

Leo paused for a moment before putting his hand on the roof of the car and ducking his head down to look at the little kame," You serious?"

"Absolutely, He's ALWAYS hated ninja, even after he found out our father was a ninja. HE claims that Master Splinter is the exception but it doesn't change his feelings towards ninja."

"Huh." Leo wasn't sure what he had been expecting but it certainly wasn't' a hate confession about his 'other self. 'He glanced down to see Don's arm wrapped around his stomach fill. An Effect of the storm he knew was raging in his stomach and sent guilt through Leo, "You feeling better half-shell?"
"A bit, don't worry my stomach will settle."

"I didn't think the food would hurt your stomach. " Truth be told he had been thinking of his friend Usagi and remembering when he and Gennosuke had come to their world and had Gen almost eaten them out of house and home (he seemed to have a particular taste for hotdog and other deep fried food)

"It's not your fault, I think it's because I haven't eaten anything for so long. "

Leo smiled lightly, it was a bit endearing that Donnie went out of his way to make him feel better. Leo knelt down to reach his hands out under Don's body when hands suddenly shoved on his shoulders,' Hey! Don't think about it! I was unconscious at the time so don't think you can get away with that shit-"

"Frist of all, don't cuss, second of all you're stomach's killing you so you're not getting out of it-"

"Over my dead-"
While Donnie was complaining, Leo slapped his hands out of the way and scooped him up into his arms ("Hey!") "Hey I picked you up and you didn't die!"

"Ass!"

"You're welcome!" Leo would have to remind him about his language later. But for now, he shifted Donnie higher up into his arms before walking away from the car, using his foot to close the door and scanning the floor for the familiar pattern till he saw the pattern that marked the floor elevator. He didn't have to look at Donnie to know he was glaring at him, but it kept a smile on his face, "You can get over it Halfshell, if you're anything like OUR Don then you have just as much bad luck as he do." his foot found the button to the elevator. He felt the ground beneath him shift as it began to lower. He was almost unprepared as the young turtle in his arms jumped heavily, in an attempt to sit up and look around with wide anxious eyes, "What the hells' happening?!"

"Calm down! It's an elevator I used it to get us to the cars to begin with-"

"I wasn't' awake!" his fingers dug into Leo's shoulders (the arms that he had been trying to escape at one point) as his head swerved around to watch the walls rise around him with amazement. Leo did his best to not say anything at his childlike amazement. (Alteast he was doing better than Mikey, how had no problem talking about how adorable he was, even if he only saw him one time). The elevator finally halted, the door in front of him sliding open. Revealing the warmth of the Lair he loved so much. He felt the form in his arms curl up tighter. Leo glanced down to see Don squeeze his eyes shut as his arms went back around his stomach, an obvious sign of the pain in he was in. Leo fought the guilt rising up in his throat like bile. Leo moved acroos the room to his room.

One of the reasons he had thought Don would feel more comfortable in his room due to his concentarion to have a Japanese oriented room. Complete with a low bed and a screen in the corner. A shelf tht was lined with candles but in the dim light made it difficult to see. Leo sat Don on his bed, hand going up to rub his scalp lightly drawing the boy into a smile, "Are you sure you don't want something for your stomach?"

"No, it'll go away." Don smiled, "I know this stuff."

"Smart shell," Leo smirked before standing up, "I'll get that futon set up for you." before walking over to his closet, opening the door, "So I don't' really know why I have a closet, I don't even wear clothes." his fingers brushed against the familiar mat he used when his brothers wanted to sleeping in the living room, "Should do something with it." Leo pulled the futon out and held it by the string he tied it with, he was trying to untie it when he turned around and paused.

Don must of been more tired then he said (for not sleeping for a week) and was now laying with his head towards the foot of the bed, feet hanging of the edge of the bed and his beak tucked under his scarf.

Leo pressed his fist to his lips to keep the laugh away from; he set the futon down before walking over to his bed and kneeling down. One arm wrapping around Dons shoulders to hug him to his chest before pulling the blankets back and moving Donnie's feet up to lay him down. Blankets covering his small body, his fingers tucked the blanket under his body before they found their way under Donnie's mask (it seemed less dangerous then taking away his scarf) and setting it on his bedside. Leo leaned back for a moment.

Upon hearing how his alternate self so hated ninjas it was instantly the joke he wanted to tell his family (also he wondered what his alternate Leo did that made him hate ninja's so much). But then a thought hit him, one that made him realize what his alternate self was doing right in that moment.

Worrying about his little brother

That's what he would have been doing. He was probably working on his own effort to get his brother back.

It's what he would have done

Leo sighed lightly before reaching his hand out to rest on top of Don's scalp again, his breath mask misting up in rhythm to his light breathing. Especially if his Don had as much breathing issues as this Donnie made sure the portable ventilation machine was on the ground before Leo he leaned down ever so lightly and whispered,

"I promise to get you home safe, I promise to reunite you with your family. And I promise until that moment comes, I will keep you safe."

"Why don't you wea' pants?"

Leo didn't realize that Donnie had been half awake. But Half-awake were still half asleep and it took a great deal to not laugh right then. He rubbed Donnie's' scalp a little bit harder, "pants are itchy" he whispered lightly before standing up heading back to his futon.

He didn't mind sleeping on the floor

Leo wasn't sure what he had been dreaming about (he was sure it was the usual dream that had something to do with a strange cartoon show about a bad space captain and a green co-captain). But he did know this; it didn't take long to be awoken by a horrible sound

Gasping

Leo sat up fast enough to send his blanket flying off his body. He could see the small form in his bed, the form thrashing about under his heavy blankets. Leo bounced over to the bed, "Donnie?!"

Don had already pulled off his breathing mask, hanging to his side hands pressed against his lips, his head thrashing around in a horrid attempt to breath. Leo quickly took a hold of the mask, his free hand taking Don's hands away from his face to press the mask back to his beak but Dons' fingers kept tight to his moth head turning around away, "Don breath!" he shook his shoulders lightly, "Donnie please!" But the child kept shaking his head around frantically the sound of straining whistling completely obscuring all other sound-

Clawed fingers suddenly grabbed Leo's shoulders, almost sending him out of his green skin till he found himself looking into dark eyes of the rat that was his father figure, "Master Splinter-"

"Sit behind Donatello and hold him up."
Leo quickly yanked the breathing mask off Don's neck before scooping him up into his arms, turning and leaning his shell against his headboard with Donnie sitting in his lap. His eyes just glancing at the tall clay container sitting i =n the middle of a bowl on his bedside He watched his father quickly unzip Don's hoody and undo the buttons underneath of his white shirt. Leo leaned Don's gasping form more into a sitting position,

"I need you to hold his mouth open for me."

"I_I don't want to hurt him-"

"NOW my son," Splinter's tone suddenly snapped with a look in his eyes that demanded his absolute obedience. Leo grimaced before pressing his fingers into the hinges of Don's jaw, his jaw opening up despite the shaking body.

Splinter lifted up the clay container into his hands before tipping the opening into his mouth, the liquid running into Don's mouth. The boy shaking lightly jerking away at the touch, Leo could assume the liquid had just gone down his throat. Splinter lifted the container again and poured it onto a bowl he had brought in. He dipped his hands into the liquid before raising his hands up to shine with the strange liquid. He rubbed the liquid over the child's plastron, his lips shushing the sleepy gasping child lightly before raising his hand to rub the liquid against Don's throat.

Leo watched in relief as the painful gasping began to weaken into clear clean breathes. "Thank goodness." He took a deep breath and rested his head against the head board for a moment before looking back to his father, "how did you know he couldn't' breath? How did you know what to do?"

Master Splinter smiled lightly before shaking his hands over the bowl to get rid of the extra liquid, "Donatello, our Donatello, used to have the same problem when he was quite young and I didn't have the resources I should of at the time. I had a ear for it whenever he couldnt breathe. I certainly didn't think I would need it so many years later. It empowered me to start my herb garden, even after I had access to an inhaler and medicine. And we should be grateful I did."

"I am father, thank you." Leo bowed his head, till he looked back down to see Don shivering ever so lightly, either from response to the medicine or the cold of no longer being wrapped in blanket or his missing shirts.

"It is alright little one." Splinters hand reached out to cup Donatello's face in his hand, his thumb running over his upper lip, "You are better now,"

Leo wrapped his arms around the small kame to hold close, before looking up to his father, "The machine might help him breathe but I don't think its fixing the problem."

"I agree my child. " Splinter's hand cupped Don's face in his hands ever so lightly. Leo could just imagine that his father was thinking back to Leo and his brother's own childhood. Back when they were younger and depended on him, "My herb garden was kept away from the lair, as so if anything happened to our home I would be able to get our herbs for injuries or incase Donatello lost his inhaler. It is not that far from here and I will be able to get there-"
"Father no, I'll go get them." Leo almost slapped himself for interrupting his father, but he couldn't stop himself, "I'll be faster and I'll be back sooner." his father's eyes studied him for a moment, before he nodded,

"Agreed, I will sit with him until you return. In case he becomes ill again."

Leo nodded back. It didn't take long for his father to give him directions, but he was ashamed that he was so reluctant to leave from the Lair even if Splinter was the one watching over his young charge. But before he left, he took the blue scarf that Don so clung to and folded it under his head before running on his way.

The sooner he got the herbs the sooner he could get back

wow…I- dotmn have any translations. I can't remember the last time that happened. But thanks to Guardian of the Crest for explaining herbs and stuff. I could write a book on feudal japan by the time I'm done..
