Happy Fourth of July!

Meanwhile, Kitty!Blaine is afraid of fireworks. Kurt helps him calm down.

Fireworks and Promises

On the Fourth of July, Blaine hides under the bed.

Kurt tries to lure him out for half the day, fruitlessly. He tries offering cuddles, back scratches, and Blaine's favorite food (tuna), but all in vain. Blaine won't come out of the tiny space he's crammed himself into, curled into a ball of jittery ears and quiet mewling sounds.

"Blaine," Kurt sighs, leaning against the bed and looking defeated. "You could at least tell me why you won't come out of there."

Blaine lets out another mewl.

"Fine then, you know what?" Kurt says, having made his decision. "I'll just join you."

With no hesitation, Kurt ducks under the bed and pushes himself on the dirty floor until he reaches Blaine, who looks at him with wide eyes.

"Can I hug you?" he asks quietly, soothingly.

Blaine nods, and Kurt wraps his arms around the ball of quivering kitten.

"Tell me what's wrong, B. Please?" he pleads.

Blaine gulps audibly. "F-fireworks. I h-hate them."

Kurt almost sighs in relief- that's it? Thank god- and hugs Blaine tighter. "They're not going to harm you, baby. I promise. And we don't have to go out tonight, okay? I can stay here with you all evening if you want."

Blaine sniffs. "It's dusty here."

Kurt kisses the stop of his head and says, "I'm not leaving you, baby."

"I love you," Blaine says in a small voice and burrows deeper into Kurt's embrace, just as a row of booming noises outside begin. He mewls once more, and Kurt rubs his back.

"I'm right here. I'm not leaving you. I'm right here…"
