author note: each story is paired with a song lyric that either fit with the specific chapter or inspired that chapter. i just love these boys together :) whether its the actors or the characters or a mix of both I feel like there's this wonderful chemistry between Cameron and Daniel and I wanted to explore that from a slash and romantic standing.

"And this journey that we're on, how far we've come and I celebrate every moment. And when you say you love me, that's all you have to say. I'll always feel this way. When you say you love me, the world goes still, so still inside. And when you say you love me, in that moment, I know why I'm alive."
"When You Say You Love Me" - Josh Groban
Daniel held the paper taught and tight between his hands, not enough to tear it but enough that he felt he could if he tightened his grip just even a fraction. He was afraid it would disappear, like this was all a dream and it would suddenly dematerialize in his grip.
Daniel had handled many priceless pieces of history in his hands before. He was an archaeologist, one who solved the great mystery of the Stargate, travelled to planets all over the galaxy, and even assisted in child birth, bringing new lives into the universe. Yes, Daniel Jackson had held many wonders. Never did he believe that a piece of 10 by 12 legal stock paper could be the thing in the universe that made him speechless.
A marriage license, issued by the state of Colorado, between himself and Cameron.
Five years ago the two men had said their vows in the backyard of what used to be Daniel's bungalow but was now the home they shared. A year later in September 2011 the law that kept their relationship a secret due to Cameron's military career was abolished and they were able to live free and proud. In October of 2014 due to a ruling by the Supreme Court the state of Colorado's ban of same-sex marriage was declared unconstitutional, the place where Daniel finally planted roots, something that had taken him almost 30 years to do. Just a month later, Cameron's home state of Kansas began issuing same-sex couples the freedom to marry as well.
Daniel and Cameron had spent years fighting for freedom; for Cameron it was the liberties of the country he vowed to serve and for Daniel it was from an oppressive alien race. Then side by side they defeated the Ori, ensuring freedom throughout the galaxy they fought so hard to protect. These were big wins. And they were pleased with the big wins. But the small victories in the quiet corners of their life that didn't involve interstellar travel or battlefields, were starting to take shape and bring huge moments of joy.
And now, on the hot 4th day in July of 2015, just a week after the historic decision made by the Supreme Court of the United States that ruled the denial of marriage licenses to same-sex couples violated the Constitution granted everyone the right to marry, Daniel and Cameron chose to become legally wed. At the courthouse in Colorado, in front of Jack, Sam, Teal'c, Vala and Cameron's parents, Daniel and Cameron decided that on the day of America's Independence, on a day that symbolized freedom, it seemed fitting to declare their union.
"It's not going anywhere, Sunshine," a voice whispered in his ear as arms embraced him from behind, wrapping around his waist.
"Just making sure it's real," Daniel loosened his grasp on the certificate, placing it on the mantle before turning in Cameron's embrace to wrap both arms around him, hugging him fiercely.
"It's all real, Daniel." Cameron smiled, relishing in his lovers embrace. Never had he felt more sheltered, more of a sense of belonging, more free and alive than he did in the arms of Daniel. "We're really married."
Daniel wanted to laugh and cry, settling on a euphoric smile as he pulled back from the hug, his hands resting upon Cameron's shoulders, gazing into Cameron's eyes.
"We're married," Daniel sighed. Daniel didn't know what came over him but suddenly he felt like his heart stopped, like his breathing stopped; he was weightless and suspended in this moment, lost in this moment.
"I love you," Cameron whispered, leaning in to plant a small kiss upon Daniel's lips. And then like that, Daniel's soul came back to his body.
"I love you," Daniel whispered back, leaning his forehead against Cameron's, taking a moment to fully absorb this moment.
They weren't a perfect couple. They never claimed to be and never tried to be. They were very different men. Cam could be a hothead, impulsive and stubborn which often clashed with Daniel's own brand of stubbornness, impatience and self-burdening responsibility, especially at work. But what defined them as the men they are is also what defined them as a couple. They were passionate, determined and even where they were different, they brought each other into a balance that was delicate and complimentary. Cameron had a playful sense of humor, Daniel a deadpan and sarcastic one; Cam a thrill seeking military man with incurable optimism and Daniel a peaceful scholar with a developed thirst for adventure. Daniel wasn't sure if it had been their evolved work friendship that ignited their lust and love for each other or if it was the other way around but it didn't matter either way. This was their story, their journey, and Daniel wouldn't change a thing. Because they weren't perfect, but they were complete.
"Now," Daniel smiled, untangling from Cameron's arms, "I'm going to put this in the frame Sam bought us and then we have to get ready. Everyone will be here in an hour for our little reception dinner and I would like to change out of this suit."
Cameron kept one hand on the small of Daniel's back as Daniel turned back towards the mantle to resume putting the certificate. With his other hand Cam reached for the iPhone in his pocket. Scrolling with his thumb till he found what he was looking for, Cam moved to plug it into the stereo dock.
"First things first," Cameron said. "I know the first dance is traditionally held during the reception but lets be honest, there's nothing traditional about us." He smirked as he pressed play. Daniel had just finished placing the frame on the mantle when Cameron grabbed him by the hips and pulled him in close, slipping a hand into Daniel's and an arm around his waist as the first notes of music filled the room.
Daniel listened to the song intently as the two began to dance closely and slowly. It took a moment but then Daniel recognized the voice, having heard him a few times playing on Jack's radio.
"A good yet interesting choice, Mitchell. You tend to be more of a Country and Rock then you are the Operatic Pop, Classical kinda guy," Daniel smirked.
"True," Cameron nodded. "But I heard this at O'Neill's once and knew in an instant this song was meant for us."
"God, you're such a romantic," Daniel teased, nudging Cameron with his shoulder. But Cameron just pulled him closer at the music washed over them, not saying a word as he gently grabbed Daniel's arms to wrap around his waist before bringing his own hands up to cup Daniel's face between them, letting them rest upon his cheeks, his thumbs gently gliding across the skin, tracing Daniel's cheekbones.
"I can't tell you how much you mean to me. Nothing, and I mean nothing, not traveling through the Gate, not saving the planet, nothing compares to sharing our lives, all our moments, with you. This, you and I, this is what matters."
Daniel didn't know what to say. All he could do was lean into Cameron's hands as they held his face, kissing the left palm lightly before bringing his hands to meets Cameron's . Entwining his with Cameron's he guided them away from his face and leaned in to kiss Cameron deeply, slowly, breathing him in as Cameron did the same, suspended in time as he tried to put every ounce of feeling and emotion he could into it and could feel Cameron returning it as they kissed passionately.
Reluctantly they pulled away before they were in too deep.
"Too be continued?" Cameron sighed heavily, leaning forward to hug Daniel, laying a soft kiss into the crook of his neck, wrapping his arms around Daniel tight. He could feel Daniel's strong arms wrap around him, holding him as though he'd never let go.
"Well, it is our wedding night," Daniel sighed back, regretting for a brief minute that they made plans with their friends when all he wanted to do was take Cameron to bed, or couch, or hot tub, or kitchen floor, wherever they ended up first.
"Well then, Dr. Jackson. Do you agree to be continued with me?" Cameron smiled, pressing his forehead against Daniel's once more.
"I do, Col. Mitchell," Daniel smiled. "Forever and always."
