"I wanna tattoo." I said. "Of your name, so we can match." I said, gently tapping on her tattoo with my finger.
She smiled brightly. "That's a great idea!"
"Where do you want it?" The tattoo artist asked, replacing the ink.
"On my back." I replied. "And gray."
She smiled and pulled out the ink needle. I knew it was going to hurt. I lied down in the chair on my stomach and waited for it to be over.
Tris held my hand the entire time.
"Where do you want to go now?" I asked Tris, when my tattoo was done.
"Hmm..." She said, placing her thumb on her chin. "You don't mind swinging by the Erudite Headquarters, do you?"
I smiled. "Course not." I said, grabbing her hand. She nodded, and we headed towards the train. When we got there, I was the first to jump on. I instantly pulled Tris in the car.
We both sat on the floor, our fingers intertwined. We were the only ones on the train, so I freely kissed her. She kissed back happily.
I pulled her into my lap and gently pecked her lips. Her eyes closed as I did, and she snuggled deeper into my chest.
My smile got ten times wider. I would have never been able to do this in front of others. I was grateful that I had this time. That I had her.
A few minutes passed and I realized that I would have to release her soon. "I'm sorry, baby." I say to her, as I pull away. "I have to see if we're here yet." She gives me a sad look but nods in understanding.
"Okay." She said.
I looked out the window. I could see the Erudite compound in the distance. We would be there in a few minutes. We were to close to kick back again.
"Why are we going here?" I asked her. "Of all places."
She combed through her hair with her fingers. "We're going to visit someone."
I nodded. It wasn't clear who we were visiting, but I didn't want to push her. As minutes went by, we arrived. I held her hand as we leaped out onto the grass, right onto the Erudite's property. As we entered the building, I was sure I had never seen so much blue.
Seriously, I was sure this was what it felt like to be underwater.
I gripped her hand tighter. I didn't know who we were visiting, so I stayed by her side.
Something caught her attention. "Caleb." She gasped and covered her mouth.
I gave her worried look. "What's wrong?" I asked, concerned. She points to a guy in a blue suit.
He looks back at Tris with wide eyes. Tris releases my hand to run up to him. She hugs him tightly.
I walk to Tris and...Caleb.
"You could have told me that we we're visiting a guy..." I muttered to Tris, raking through my hair.
She laughed and pulled away from him. "He's my brother." She said. "Peter this is Caleb, Caleb this is Peter."
I held out my hand, but he just stared at it.
I looked at him like he was a talking dog.
He laughed when he saw my expression. "Sorry, I forgot Dauntless greeted differently than we do."
"It's fine." I said, dropping my hand.
He turned back to Tris. "What happened to your nose?" He said, looking at her bandage.
I looked away, knowing that I was the person to cause it.
She saw my expression and bit her bruised lip. "Nothing."
He gave her a look of disappointment, but moved on to another topic. "Beatrice, you changed so much." He said, deeply looking at her. "You even got a tattoo?" He said, pointing to the three birds on her chest.
I smiled. "Beatrice." I said under my breath, grinning like a maniac.
Of course, "Tris" could not have been her Abnegation name. I was stupid to even think that.
She heard me and playfully slapped my shoulder. "Don't ever call me that again." She said, in a serious tone. I knew she was kidding though, she had a smile on her face.
I laughed and smiled at her. She focused her attention on me and smiled back.
Caleb looked between us. "Are you two..." He said, a confused expression on his face.
I smiled lightly. "Yeah." I said, scratching my head. "But, we don't want anybody finding out just yet." I continued, looking him in the eye.
He raised an eyebrow. "I think you make it pretty obvious." He said, grinning. I rolled my eyes.
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that.
Even so, I thought I hid it pretty well. I didn't kiss her or touch her the way I would if we were alone. All we did was smile, and anybody can do that, in a relationship, or not.
"I think we did a good job at hiding it." I told Caleb, grabbing my girlfriend's hand.
He looked at me like he was trying to tell if I was joking or not.
He saw that I wasn't.
"I apologize, Peter. Excuse me if I offended you." He said. "You obviously don't do it on purpose, and I don't think you realize that you do it, but when you look at her, you seem...dazed."
I was sure it was the first time I blushed. But I didn't look away from him. I couldn't.
"Wow." I said, biting my lip. "That was surely something that I didn't notice."
Caleb smiled at me. "It's alright." He said. "I'm sure she didn't notice either." Tris hides in my chest as soon as she hears this. I smile and kiss her on the head.
"I'll let you guys talk." I say. "Brother to sister." I finished. I turn away to leave but Tris doesn't let go of my hand. "Don't leave when things get awkward!" She harshly whispers to me. I smile down at her and peck her on the mouth. Her eyes close just as they did on the train. I pull away and stroke her cheek.
"You'll be fine." I say and walk away once again.
This time she lets me go.
I sit on a nearby bench, and think about what Caleb said.
And suddenly I am back in the dorm with Tris.
"The way you stared at me..." She started. "...was the way my father stared at my mother."
She looked at the ground.
"Cheesy?"
So maybe Tris did notice, and just didn't tell me.
It would be a challenge not looking at her the wrong way in front of others.
Especially if I didn't know what the wrong way was.
Minutes passed and I saw Tris come up to me.
She looked sick. I frowned. "Are you okay, Tris?" I asked her, cupping her cheek in my palm.
She nods. "Come on." She looked around. She seemed in a hurry to get out. "We need to leave."
