This is the (second-to-last) final episode on a schedule. Three weeks ago I announced that I would be cancelling X-Men: Standing Guard and it's spinoff series Bishop. So many of you left your support that I decided to keep the series going, even though it would be on a casual schedule. So thank you for all of your support and I hope you enjoy the rest of the series. Please do keep leaving your support, however, because it is still needed.
This was Part 2/3 of the Bishop Spin-off series. I hope you all read the Epilogue! Anyway, down to the big stuff:
-Kitty's sister is still alive. If you read the deleted scene from S1E06 "Bishop", you would have learned that Kitty's sister McKenna "died" in a car accident when she was only twelve. Not only is McKenna alive, but she is good friends with Rogue! Rogue's hair is a sign of being in favor and loyal to McKenna and can help her out of a lot of sticky situations. This means there are more people with white streaks in their hair like Rogue…or are there? McKenna is connected directly to the "Hand" file and had to fake her death at a young age…why? These secrets are just the beginning…
-Rogue is an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Who saw that one coming? Rogue is a Level 9 agent working directly for Nick Fury. She does not exist on S.H.I.E.L.D. databases and her relationship with X-23 is more complicated than originally portrayed. Instead of being X's friend, she's X's guardian and…almost a parole officer… Rogue is what is called a Black Ops Undercover agent. She's in it for the long haul. This will most likely be her only mission. All of this after discovering Rogue knew all along and is working for S.H.I.E.L.D. Xavier isn't going to be too happy…
-Kate Bishop is raped. Not explicitly stated in the comics (but implied), Kate was raped and that was what inspired her to become a hero. Unlike her comic-counterpart (at least at first), Kate isn't going to be as cheerful and happy, leaning more towards DC's brand of grim and broody. Kate's rape has inspired her to become a vigilante, to make sure that what happened to her never happens to anyone else.
-Rogue kidnapped Kate in Africa. When we originally met Kate back in S1E06, she had been abducted by the United States government. Now we find out a few more details about that abduction: working for the Sentinel Project and Secretary Stryker, Rogue abducted Kate Bishop and her mother, where her mother later died. This well definitely come back to play very early in Season Two and Bishop. As much as she protested to Xavier, Rogue knew exactly what was going on. Just one example of the many choices she had to make as an undercover agent. And you people thought she was dark before…!
-Kate Bishop's Supporting Cast: We met a few of Kate Bishop's friends who will become supporting cast in her future series. We met Rachel Osborne, daughter of Norman Osborne. There was another deleted line in this where Rachel references "Parker and Stacy's geek love in the corner". Spiderman and Gwen Stacy will in fact be in Bishop. Parker and Osborne…hmm…
We also got to meet America Chavez, known in the comic books as Miss America (something I will definitely tease in Bishop) Along with her patriotic name, America was wearing a Captain America shirt and patriotic themed clothes both times we saw her. Unlike her comic counterpart, she is a computer geek and will be serving Kate from behind the scenes in the Lair instead of out on the streets.
One final character we met: Gwen's father Police Captain George Stacy. He's going to be leading the charge about vigilantes in Bishop (whether pro or anti, you'll have to wait to find out)!
-X-23 is very aware of Rogue's doings. How much does she know?
-The Beginning of the End? The Phoenix Force is never good. It was bad enough that a select few knew Jean even had it in her, but now…now no one even knows it exists. Thanks, Frost. This storyline is very important for Season 2/3…both of them… Also, Jean did whatever she did to Emma in full control of the Phoenix. So there's something else for you to chew on over the next two weeks…
-What is X-23's new power?
-X learns the truth about Wolverine. This is merely the beginning…
This was the final episode this season with a mention or appearance by Kate Bishop. She'll be back though, you can count on that!
There were a few easter eggs this episode:
-Dazzler (a mutant singer who has the ability to generate light shows from sound waves)
-Prospero Harper (the Captain) is an anti-mutant terrorist in the comics
-Stan St. and Lee Ave. Stan Lee created the X-Men as well as Captain America, Iron Man, and many other characters that have been adapted into Marvel's Cinematic Universe. I expect you to know this.
-"You have failed this city!" Signature line delivered by the Arrow in the first (and third) season of the similarly titled show on theCW. This will also be Kate Bishop's line when she becomes Knightress.
-S-Phone; if you read the epilogue, you saw Kate using one of these. The S-Phone is a Stark Industries phone that is completely translucent.
I hope you enjoyed this episode! I can't wait to get started on Bishop! Next episode is the End of the Beginning! We've got huge things going. For a sneak peek at that, check back tomorrow for an exclusive clip.
Once again, thank all of you for your support on this series! Keep it coming! Reviews are still a crucial part of keeping X-Men alive! Keep an eye on my profile and Twitter for the release dates of upcoming episodes. Episode Eleven: Devils Deal should be out in two week's time, then the final stretch of three episodes two weeks after that!
