I am in a dark room, with dim red lighting.
I look around. I am alone. I turn around, I see a hallway. I get darker from what I can see, so I don't head down it.
I walk around the room, and my own footsteps scare me, considering how quiet it is.
"Hello?" I call out. The sound of my own voice sends chills up my spine. I call out again.
"Hello?"
Nobody responds.
I look around the room. There is no other hallway. I suck in a breath and head for the hallway.
The hallway gets darker as I go deeper into it.
It smells of burnt rubber as I walk on the plush black carpet. It it surprisingly warm, I have sweat on my forehead before I start running down the hall. More darkness. The hallway gets thinner, but I still run.
"Will!" I hear somebody yell.
It's Christina.
I run towards her voice.
"Christina!" I yell.
I am not Will, but I needed her to know that somebody else was here, that she wasn't alone.
"Will!" She yells again.
I run faster. The hallway gets lighter, the red lights appearing again.
I saw her.
"Will!"
I ignored her shouts and come closer. She would be upset to find that I wasn't Will, but I didn't care.
When I came closer, I saw that she wasn't looking at me, but at the actual Will. I ran and stood next to her. When she saw me, she brightened up.
"Peter!"
It was the happiest I had ever seen her look at me.
"What's going on? Where is everybody?" I ask, in a rush.
She looks at me, tears in her eyes. "We have to look for them."
I frowned. Tris could be anywhere. I looked at Will.
He had blood leaking out of the side of his face, a devilish grin in his features.
"What's wrong with him?" I ask Christina, still staring at him.
"He's not the real Will. It's one of my fears. Don't question it, please."
I nod.
"I'm trying to calm my heart rate down, so he goes away. It just won't work."
I notice something by her feet. It was black, along with the rest of the room, but it stood out to me. I picked it up.
It was cold, metal. I remember the feeling from stage one of initiation.
I was holding a gun.
"Christina..." I whispered.
She looked at the gun and covered her mouth.
"No." She said, shaking her head multiple times. "No. No. I can't."
I nod. "You have too."
Her tears rush down her face quickly.
"Do it." I hear Will say, daringly.
She shakes her head at him.
"Do it." He says again, this time more stern.
I hand her the gun. She doesn't take it.
"Do it!" He yells this time, his grin now gone.
I look at her. "He's right."
She gives me a look, tears streaming down her face. "I said no!" She yells at me.
"We're supposed to be working together!" I shout at her. "Listen to me!"
She gives me a frustrated look. "I said no!"
I sigh. "Fine."
I look at Will, pointing the gun to him. And before I know it, he is slumped on the black carpet, a bullet in between his eyes.
I shot him.
Christina slumps to the ground, her hand over her mouth.
She sobs loudly, and I feel bad for her. I don't comfort her. We had to keep moving. None of us were going to get out if she stood here.
"Come on, Christina, we have to find everybody."
She shakes her head. "Go on without me."
"We have to work as a team." I say. "I'm not gonna leave you here." My words tasted bitter as they came out.
I didn't plan on saying that again.
Especially to Christina.
She stands up, and brushes her tears away. We go into the next hall. I break into a run, sweat coating my forehead.
Christina is behind me, running as fast as me.
"Have you run into any of your fears yet?" She asked me.
I shake my head and keep running. When we reached the other room, I see Drew.
And my father.
Thanks, Christina, I think. One of my fears was here. She had jinxed it.
My father looks at me with a serious face.
"Peter." He says in a stern voice.
I shudder. "Why did you leave Candor?" He asked. "You're a traitor."
I don't respond.
I would, if I had Tris. She gave me confidence.
Without her I was scared.
Scared of standing up to my father.
"Your mother is ashamed." He said. "Ashamed of you."
His words stung. My eyes welled up.
But I couldn't cry.
I wouldn't.
Drew looked at me. He was confused.
But I knew the way out.
My father raised his voice, and the words got harsher.
"How does the simulation end?" Christina asks me, her eyes shining.
I was afraid to talk. If I did, I was sure my words would be unclear.
I let a tear slip out of my eye.
Christina gasps.
"I have to fight back." I respond, my sentence ending in a gag.
Christina steps in front of me, looking my dad in the eye.
"Lay off of him, you coward." She says, through clenched teeth. "You hear that? You are a coward!"
And he was gone.
I look at Drew. He looked fine.
"Your fear will in the next room, trust me."
He nods quickly, and the three of us into the next hallway.
When we arrive in the next room, Christina is swarmed by multiple moths. She screams, and I help her, grabbing a fly swatter and beating them away.
Drew is surrounded by termites, biting aggressively at his skin. His screams sends chills up my spine.
I continue you swatting at the moths, when I am done, Christina and I help Drew with the termites.
I look around for my fear, and when it catches my eye, I scream.
It was Tris, lying on the floor, dead.
