Zen
One night out of the blue, Kurt announced he is not to be bothered every night from nine to nine thirty. He is starting to meditate regularly, because taking care of your mental health is just as important as your physical health, he explained.
Every night, he'd close the bedroom door and hide behind it for exactly half an hour before coming back out, with a calm smile on his face and a warm kiss he pressed to Blaine's lip before doing or saying anything else.
After two weeks or so of this, Blaine had asked to join, out of sheer curiosity; he promised to keep quiet and not bother Kurt, or make fun of him. Kurt narrowed his eyes, but gave in.
Apparently, the ritual started earlier than Blaine realized. At ten minutes to nine, Kurt wordlessly got up from the couch and slowly made chamomile tea for himself and Chinese tea for Blaine. Once he finished, he carried both to the coffee table; Blaine watched his careful movements with awe.
They sat and drank their tea peacefully, and Blaine was already starting to feel a little drowsy and a lot less wound up. Every so often, Kurt would take a quick look at the clock on the wall; when nine o'clock arrived, he finished his tea and set the mug aside. A glance at Blaine, and he finished his tea as well.
They stood up together, and Kurt pulled Blaine close, hugging him to his chest before kissing him softly, like a whisper. He led the way to the bedroom, and closed the door behind Blaine.
With a shy smile, Kurt pulled his shirt off- Blaine quickly followed suit, not stopping to look at his husband for longer than necessary. Kurt had taken him by surprise when he took off his briefs as well, and then shrugged at his raised eyebrows.
Kurt took his place on the bed, sitting cross-legged with his back straightened. Blaine finished undressing and did his best to mimic the posture, across from him, on his own side of the bed.
Kurt closed his eyes, and let the calmness steal into his body.
Blaine was amazed at the change in Kurt, clear as sky and perfectly visible on his bare skin. His shoulders sagged, although his back stayed pulled taut. His breathing slowed down and evened, and his eyes stopped fluttering behind his eyelids after a short moment.
He was practically glowing with it, and suddenly Blaine knew what "zen" meant. It was right in front of him.
Perhaps the darkness behind his eyelids helped Kurt calm, but what calmed Blaine was the soothing image of Kurt, vulnerable yet powerful, so focused on drifting away.
After a long while, when Kurt opened his eyes again- blushing a little when he realized Blaine had been watching- he leaned in and placed a kiss on Blaine's awaiting lips.
