Chapter Three, Where the Sun Sails and the Moon Walks
The quote near the end of this chapter belongs to J.R.R Tolkien.
Can you guess what story it's from? Hopefully you like this chapter.
Ayako Zetra- I'm glad you like the Loftwing design, I really wanted to make something different from the other birds. Thanks for reviewing!
The beautiful bird leaned down for her to climb up.
"It's getting dark." Sky said, knowing Loftwings didn't fly at night.
Within seconds she was in the night sky, her Loftwing blending into the dark, but it's white patterns appearing to glow.
She held tightly to the bird as she tried to steer the creature to the left. Only to have the bird go it's own way.
"Go left." She spoke softly.
With a shake of it's head, the bird continued it's own path.
Sky studied the night around her instead, watching the stars.
They flew around many small islands, worrying Sky as the became farther away from her home, but after a few long minutes the Loftwing landed.
It wasn't Skyloft, it was a small island with a shallow cave like wall at the other side.
With curiosity above any fear she had, she walked towards it. It seemed to be an ancient painting with many strange letters carved beneath it.
The black ink showed a picture of young girl standing in front of a wall. The next scene showed the girl with her hand upon the wall and lines going outward, meaning light, or an explosion of power. The very last image was the girl standing with the lines shooting out from all around her. Each scene had different letters beneath them.
Sky slowly walked closer, looking over it carefully. Extending her hand, she closed her eyes and placed her hand gently on the cold stone.
Silver sparks shot through her hand and up her arm. The cool silver turned to a burning red, soothing blue, green, and finally a power golden.
The words under the first light up in green letters of the ancient Hylian language. She could read the three words.
Courage
For the girl's bravery.
Wisdom
From the ancient words.
Power
Given by the words.
All the color made a ring on the stone before bursting out, and shooting into Sky, who felt each emotion of the powers. The wave of power knocked her backwards, but she quickly regained strength as the colors faded. She turned to face her bird, "What happened to me?"
Just as the bird made it's way toward her, another color slowly slithered on the ground, and wrapped around her, like it was strangling her. The black pulled tighter around her, and there was nothing she could do but scream as it felt like pins when it seeped into her skin, flowing through her veins and resting in her heart.
"Help me!" Her voice pierced the night sky.
Before anything more could happen, the guardian bird grabbed her as gently as it could with it's talons.
"Why, why did you do that? Why?" She kept mumbling.
"Forgive me, child. You will understand someday." A deep voice spoke.
"You speak?"
"Only you can hear me."
They landed in front of the statue of the goddess, and Sky grabbed the bird's wings.
"What happened to me?"
"Answers will be revealed in the future. It is to prevent what may come. Go home now, little one."
"You must tell me more tomorrow." She begged.
"I will see you again in the future. Stay indoors, avoid being near the edge and flying with others."
"What is your name?"
"You will learn someday. Farewell, child."
Sky frowned, knowing she should be terrified, but instead felt strangely calm.
She kindly replied with, "May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks." She had read it in a story somewhere, but she couldn't remember where exactly.
The bird nodded his head and flew off into the night. Sky looked down at her hands, she was too afraid to imagine what lied within her.
Any guesses of what one of J.R.R Tolkien's stories it comes from?
