Chapter 14 - Making plans
Driving home, Caroline almost turned the car around and went back to Klaus. Almost. She was drawn to him from the very first day they met and now that he was supernatural like herself, the pull was even stronger.
She fidgited with the dials on her radio, trying to find a station to distract her and sped towards home. "I do need to call Elena back and get together with Bonnie too, like the old days. It's been a while and maybe tbey can help make sense of this whole thing with Klaus."
Walking in the door, she dropped her handbag on the table and grabbed her phone out.
"Hey Care, I've been meaning to call you back."
"I'm mising you guys, can you still come this weekend?"
"We'll be there Friday, I've talked to Bon and she can come too. It'll be so great to see you both again. Damon is a fairly decent travel companion but I need girl time."
"So do I Elena, there's so much I need to talk about."
"Is it the hunky Brit?"
Caroline dropped onto the couch and swung her legs up, tucking them under herself. "Well yes. But there's so much more to it now than when we last talked. It's all a little unbelieveable really."
"Do tell."
"I can't . At least not over the phone and not in a short aount of time. This will involve lots of wine and a late night."
"Ok Caroline. But remember, you deserve to be happy. So if he doesn't make you giddy and breathless, drop him like a hot potato right now."
Caroline laughed. "Well, I'm not sure about the giddy but he does make me breathless. I haven't felt this way, well, since Tyler I guess."
"It's about time Caroline. But, it sounds like there's lots more too it. So, I'll make sure I bring plenty of alcohol and maybe we can watch some chick flicks. Damon isn't big into The Notebook or Pride and Prejudice. He's more of a Saw 4 kind of guy."
"Mmmm yes, I do remember what he's like Elena and I must say you've done well to last this long stuck in a car with him."
"I know he's not your favourite person Caroline but he has changed a lot. And sometimes it's not a car, sometimes it's a plane or a ski lodge or the bed."
"Eeewww stop, I do not need to hear anymore about what you get up to. But you do sound happy Elena. Oh I can't wait to see you both!"
"Let's meet at the cabin Stefan bought. It's hardly ever used, fully stocked with blood and close enough for both you and Bonnie to get to. We'll fly in and Damon will go and see Stefan for a few days leaving us to it."
"Ok then, Friday it is. Love you Elena."
"Love you too Care. See you soon."
She sat for a while, the phone on her lap. She knew her friends would support her if she was happy but she was never sure how they would take some of the more bizarre news and a werewolf wasn't run of the mill. Although, it wasn't all that unusual in their world either. "I just need to vent to them, they at least get me" she thought dwelling on the fact that she had no close ties up here in New England. It didn't pay to make too many friends, then you just had to vanish from their world within five years so it was less painful on everyone to keep people at a distance. "A lot more lonely though" she conceeded.
Flipping her phone over, she thought for a bit before deciding to text Klaus. As much as she wanted a bit of space to think about it all, he was first and foremost in her thoughts. She wanted to see him one more time before hanging out with Elena and Bonnie.
Sending off her message she was thrilled when it beeped a reply within only a few minutes. "I have an hour free now if you can meet me on my bed? K"
Laughing and feeling warm at the thought of Klaus and his room, she decided to play with him for a bit. He was constantly flirting with her, it was time for him to have a taste of it. "I think my lunch hour has now become fully booked. Sleep well Mr Mikaelson."
Instead of a text, the phone rang almost straight away. Confirming it was Klaus, she ignored it, letting it go to voicemail. It rang again straight away and she did the same thing, laughing to herself. When he called a third time she decided to put him out of his misery. She tried to sound prim and proper. "Yes?"
"Sorry love, I thought it was funny. Since you clearly felt like an hour away from me was too long, I do have solutions to fix that." Hearing his voice, made her heart beat a little faster. He sounded a little unsure and so she strung him along for a bit longer.
"Oh you're very funny Klaus. It's all about your obvious charm and me wanting desparately to fall into bed with you isn't it? Is that what all your women have done, fall at your feet and swoon for the indescribable Mr Mikaelson? Well, I'll tell you something... I'm kind of feeling something indescribable myself right now and if I did act on it, I think you'd be very happy. Now goodnight" and she hung up the phone with a laugh, trying to imagine what he would be thinking at that moment. "It feels good to be in control, if even for just a few minutes" she thought.
But she didn't keep him waiting too long, sending one last message. "So, back to the original question, lunch was it?"
His reply was immediate. "Yes love. I'll be there at noon. Sleep well, dream well."
"Night Klaus. Oh, and I don't usually sleep in much on a warm night like this. So, yes I'll be very comfortable. Dream well yourself" she teased, feeling like she had won some kind of mini victory. She couldn't help wondering if he would suddenly appear at her window though, the pull to be with her as strong as she was feeling for him.
Getting ready and climbing into bed, she watched the trees outside brush lightly against the window, causing a shadow to move back and forth. But it never turned into Klaus and she couldn't help but be a little dissapointed.
"Don't get attached too soon Care" she told herself as she drifted towards the edge of unconsciousness. "There's always something that guys like to hide."
But even as she succumbed to sleep, she knew it was too late. She was already falling in love with Klaus.
