Chapter 35

Another Life

Minutes turned into hours as Laxus waited for any kind of news about Lucy and their child. Finally, after two long hours of waiting, Chelia came out of the room, a bundle in her arms, and nodded to Laxus. Being careful about the child in his arms, he flew up the steps.

With a small smile she put the bundle in his arms, and he looked down to see two big beautiful eyes staring up at him.

"What is it?" He whispered softly.

"A girl."

"And Lucy?" He almost dreaded the answer, but Chelia smiled and placed a hand on his arm, leading him through the door. When he walked in he immediately spotted Lucy sitting up in a new, clean bed, and as she heard him walk in she turned to look at him, giving him a radiant smile. Smiling back at her, he made his way over to her and sat on the chair next to her bed, and handed her their children before he buried his head into his hands, tears of relief going down his cheeks.

"I'm so glad that you're safe..."

"Laxus." She said softly and he looked up and saw a few tears in her eyes as she looked over at him. "You made a promise not to leave me, its only fair if I make you the same promise, right?"

"Right." Laxus let out a small laugh, and looked at their children in her arms. "So, what are we going to name them?"

"Well, I was thinking of Alec for the boy." Laxus nodded, Alec seemed like a good name, at least it wasn't anything weird. He had a feeling he knew what she wanted to name the girl, but was surprised when she suggested a different name.

"And I was thinking of Halley for the girl, like Halley's Comet, she sure had an interesting entrance into this world." Lucy looked up at Laxus with a smile, and he smiled at her.

"I think Halley is a beautiful name." He looked over his new, tiny family, and smiled. We're finally all together, no more waiting.

Lucy let out a nervous sigh as Levy stepped through the doors in front of her, her hands fidgeting with the bouquet in her hands; big white roses with a few, smaller yellow roses for color, a single white rose with yellow tips set into the center.

As the music started she took a deep breath and walked through the doors, her smile getting wider as she saw Laxus waiting for her. He was dressed in a black tux with royal blue accents, and she saw his eyes widen when he saw her in her wedding dress for the first time.

It was simple, but perfect for Lucy. It was strapless with a sweetheart neckline, form fitting until it got to her waist, where it started to flow down her curves and trail out behind her. Her hair was loose and falling down her back and past her waist in soft golden curls, a simple lace train resting on them.

Laxus wasn't looking at the dress, instead he was captivated by her eyes, so full of love and joy, and by her smile, so bright and happy. He glanced at his grandfather, sitting in the front row holding the twins, smiling up at him. Lucy handed the bouquet to Levy when she reached Laxus, and they faced each other, taking each other's hands, and the ceremony began.

"You may now kiss the bride." Those six words have never meant so much to Laxus. Lucy was now, officially, his, and he was her's. After almost eight years of waiting this amazing woman was his wife.

With a wicked grin Laxus stepped closer and lifted her up into his arms, causing her to yelp in surprise. Before she could protest he covered her mouth with his own in a short, passionate kiss. He placed her down and took her hand, smiling down at her.

"Come on, let's go see what kind of party Mira has put together for us."

Lucy smiled as Laxus twirled her around during their first dance, catching a glimpse of everyone's smiling faces around her. She looked up and saw Natsu watching her from the second floor, leaning against the railing with a longing look on his face, but when she stopped spinning and looked up for him, he was gone.

Natsu watched silently from the second floor as his best friend danced with her new husband, ran a hand through his hair, and made his way to his office. He went through his desk drawers and pulled out an old, dusty framed picture. It was of him and Lucy at the end of their very first date as a couple. She was smiling so brightly as he kissed her cheek, his arms wrapped around her as she took the picture.

"We had a chance, Luce, but I was the one who screwed it up. I shouldn't run off, I should have stayed with you that night." He whispered as he sank into his chair, thinking about what he had overheard almost a year ago as he sat in this very spot, Lucy telling Erza about their child, the child he never knew about.

I don't blame you, Luce, I was an idiot back then, but if you would have just told me it would have been different. I would have tried to be better, to be there for you, but Fate decided that we weren't meant to be together. Now you're happy with Laxus, and all that matters to me is your happiness.

Natsu put the picture back into his desk with a sigh as Ash walked into his office, crawling up into his lap.

"Daddy, wha are you doing awone?" Natsu looked down at his son and smiled.

"Just thinking."

"About wha?"

"Another life..."

Natsu opened his eyes when he heard his name called out softly, and turned to see Lucy sitting up in her hospital bed.

"Natsu, where is she?" She looked up at him with her warm brown eyes and he smiled, got up and walked to the foot of her bed, and picked up a small bundle and brought it over to her.

"Did you decide on a name yet, Mrs. Dragion?" A nurse asked as she walked in, a small boy with pink hair peeking around the doorframe.

"Yes, just a second, though. Natsu Jr. get in here!" Lucy yelled at her son, who quickly ran in and crawled into his father's lap. Natsu Dragion looked down at his son and smiled as he thought about who he was named after. Natsu Dragneel, I wonder how you are doing now. I wonder if your life is as happy as mine is?

"Natsu!" Lucy yelled out, and he looked over at his wife.

"What?"

"I asked if you liked the name Lalya?"

"Why Lalya?"

"I don't really know..." She said in a small voice as she looked down at the baby girl in her arms. "I just get the feeling she should be named Lalya... You were thinking about them again, weren't you?"

"Yes. Its been fifteen years. I wonder how they are doing, if those two ever got together, like we did." Natsu smiled down at his wife and took her hand.

"I'm sure everything turned out fine for them." Lucy Heartfilia, I wonder if your life turned out like you imagined. After all this time, I hope you found the one Fate meant for you to find, the one you were meant to be with.
